lots of lights to get you going on this friday, august 23rd. this is "today in the bay." always a feel good when it's friday. good morning. it's 4:31. good morning. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. can't get enough of friday. meteorologist christina loren, we saw the bay bridge looks nice out, clear conditions. >> feels so good out there. good morning to you, marla and jon. good morning to you at home. temperatures are down right comfortable. we lost a lot of that humidity. it feels really, really good when you walk out your front door. 60 in san jose. might need to pull out a coat in places like santa rosa and santa cruz where temperatures are actually quite chilly. 54 degrees to kickoff the day. at 56 up in wine country. i've got the weekend forecast, changes headed our way. we want to tell you about those. if you're trying to make the outdoor plans. if you have to get out the front door right now, it's okay.

mike will help you out. looks like a big issue. as we zoom in close, this is south 101 as you're approaching the curves. there's three vehicles over there. one is a tow truck. one involved northbound with taillights, southbound with a few headlights past the scene. that's just before you get down toward the richmond san rafael bridge. not a problem. i see a lot of slowing through oakland. we'll send it back to you for now. >> thank you very much. we start things off with the latest developments on the rim fire burning near yosemite. more than 63,000 acres have now burned and the firefighters out there working hard. simply struggling at this point to get any sort of upper hand and any sort of containment on this one. right now the fire stands at only one percent contained.

after sending their own crews, san francisco leaders declaring a local state of emergency to make sure the city remains protected when they are gone. let's get the latest from richard sharp at our sister station in sharp. >> reporter: firefighters are trying to steer this fire away from homes. >> this is a back firing operation. they have to do this because of the erratic weather patterns during the day. what they're doing is burning up fuel, taking a lot of. >> people are weary. some having to evacuate more than once. >> twice we packed up from smith

back. go to oub were site at nbcbayarea.com. new this morning, officers on the peninsula are investigating the deadly crash that shut down all northbound lanes of highway 101. chp says the crash happened just before midnight on the freeway at kehoe avenue in san mateo. they treated this picture of traffic being diverted off to the shoulder. a sig alert was issued early this morning, but all lanes have since reopened. one person was killed in this crash. investigators have yet to release a cause. this morning santa clara police hoping a sketch will help them track down a man who sexually assaulted a woman steps away from santa clara university. this attack marks the city's third in just the past month. we have a sketch form you to take a good look at here. police say this man knocked a woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her. it happened just after midnight on wednesday. she was able to fight the man off, but he eventually got away. the attack happened near the corner of franklin and sherman

streets right on the edge of campus. >> it's a constant concern definitely. >> i close my door when i'm not in front. i close my other door, too, lock it and she does the same thing. >> we can tell you just three weeks ago another woman was physically assaulted five blocks away on lexington street west of the campus. in late july police say a man climbed through a window and sexually assaulted a woman who was sleeping in her apartment on homestead road near kiely boulevard. police say at this point it's unclear if all three attacks are related. a san francisco neighborhood is calling for change at what it calls a dangerous intersection. take a look. this was the seen at a martial arts studio when a car crashed inside yesterday. it broke through the front glass right before the class started at 22nd and balboa. the studio's owner says a

student was sitting near the window seconds before the impact. no one was hurt. but many living near the area are not surprised some want the intersection changed from a four-wfou to a four-way stop. >> every day you hear a huge screech and a honk and a near accident. i've been waiting for something like this to happen. i'm glad nobody was seriously hurt. >> neighbors say they plan to ask city leaders for help. knew charges of vehicular manslaughter against a san bruno father behind the wheel wen his car crashed killing two of his daughters last year. arvin candell was driving home from an all-night black friday shopping trip when he fell as sleepd and crashed in palo alto. the chp who pulled over to help

was also badly injured. now to an nbc bay area followup, santa cruz detectives say they've just begun to scratch the surface of perhaps thousands of victims in a child pornography case. the accused is well-known surf instructor dylan greiner. some of the victims received a free lesson from greiner from the city's boys and girls club. nbc bay area interviewed him because the surfer was known around the community for helping clean up local beaches. he was arrested last week on charges including lewd acts with a 14-year-old girl and secretly recording girls as they changed clothes. police now say they have uncovered more than half a million pornographic videos and pictures. it is 4:38. let's turn things over to meteorologist christina loren. the question is this a weekend to head to the beach? >> you'll get spoiled just about

where we have the southbound side activity changed a bit. one of the crews has left. i'm told pg&e crews still there. the crash has involved a power pole. we don't have details about outages for the area but the crews are there. some flares approaching, mild slowing. on the map, not enough to show an issue as far as sensors go. if you take 580 toward the richmond side, that's smooth over toward the bay bridge. coming up from the other side, from oakland, northbound really slowing down. look at the dramatic slowing over the last few minutes. north between fifth and 23rd. a lot of construction crews scheduled until 5:00. let's see how the build has happened over the coliseum. our live look shows the traffic already backed up to high street. that's quite a backup right now. all i can tell is there's a traffic break of some sort and activity as the crews move.

who accused him of sexual harassment. today's decision will be -- in the past six weeks at least 18 women have come forward accusing the 70-year-old mayor of making unwanted sexual advances or inappropriate statements. filner has admitted to being disrespectful towards women. the grand jury has indicted former nfl star aaron hernandez on first degree murder and weapons charges. hernandez who was in court yesterday for a probable cause hearing seemed laid back following the indictment, even mouthing i love you to somebody in that courtroom. hernandez stands charged with the shooting and killing of semi pro football player, 27-year-old oden lloyd. his body was found near hernandez's home back in june. the former new england patriot tight end has pleaded not

guilty. george zimmerman's brother says george zimmerman did visit a florida gun manufacturer. tmz posted a photo yesterday. zimmerman asked about a ksg shotgun, but his brother wouldn't say if zimmerman bought a gun. cal tech manufactured the same handgun zimmerman used to kill trayvon martin in february of 2012. last month zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder charges. investors are hoping things return to normal on the nasdaq after a glitch of downed trading for three hours yesterday. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn things over to courtney reagan live at cnbc world headquarters. >> good morning, marla. the sec chairman plans to meet with the heads of new york stock exchanges in the wake of the glitch that shut down trading on thursday.

50 years ago to protest discrimination and inequality. one bay area woman was there for the landmark speech. her name is gay cobb. she set out on a bus ride to washington, d.c. to hear his address. now as ceo as the oakland private industry council, she's looking back on that memorable experience. she says it helped shape her life. >> to be part of that generation and to have observed the changes in america since then is just profoundly humbling. >> cobb says she is grateful for the experience. dr. king's "i have a dream" speech in 1963, three days before that he made an appearance on "meet the press." that interview will be replayed in its entirety on sunday on nbc bay area. "meet the press" moderator david gregory talks about the
