crack in the fence and the wife turns to her husband. can you fix the fence? and husband replied, do i look like a carpenter to you? finally, the wife noticed some of the paint was chipping in their son's room so she said, honey, could you please repaint the room? he says do i look like a painter to you? there's a theme here. the next day a handyman came through the neighborhood looking for work. the wife immediately hired him. when the husband came home and saw the work had been done he said, how did you get everything fixed? there was a handyman. he came by and offered to do it for a lot of sex or a homemade pie. and he said, i hope you made him the best apple pie of his life. and his wife stares right at him and said, do i look like a baker to you? >> you've been rocking the jokes. what's going on with you? >> you are getting good ones. it's time for johnson's baby of the week. >> yes, yes, yes. >> we celebrate new moms and the new additions to their families. our first baby is baby matthew.

oh, john crump born in virginia on july 18th. parents john and miriam call him their little miracle baby because they've been told they would never be able to have children. so they really fooled them. >> they sure did. next up is ne'riah faith jackson born july 17th. in virginia. her parents say they chose her name because ne'riah means lamp of god and their little girl is a bright light in their lives. >> now to a baby born in lake forest, california. little jase joseph mccutchan. he weighs 6 pounds, 13 ounces. >> look at his picture. he's so relaxed. >> chelsea and daniel offer this advice to new parents. sleep when you can. >> that's right. >> just look at him. >> and our last johnson's baby is caroline pamela wiley born july 8th in bowling green, kentucky. mom and dad are very grateful for their newborn especially

>> and what happens? >> more money, more problems. >> different problems but still problems. >> i like the different problems better. >> but there's also the challenges that as you get more money, that amount of money no longer is enough and then people want more. because the comparison changes. >> the itch you can't scratch kind of thing. but how much of it -- you took the course. how much of it is a dna thing. some babies are happy and they grow up into happy kids and happy grown-ups? and some are cranky. >> some people are naturally happy but the thing is that for anyone who isn't naturally happy, there are things that can make you happy. very simple things. >> did you go looking for happiness? >> i was happy but i wanted to find out how to be even happier. >> what did you learn? >> first thing is just smiling, like if you feel like, i'm in a mood, just making yourself smile, even if you -- >> i've got something to help with that. those lip things. >> even if you don't feel happy, that's easy. >> you talked about how like things like children and family, those things you'd innately

think make you happy, don't. >> that's a really great point. people often think, being married will make me happier. >> depends on who you marry. >> that's because you are a woman. for men it doesn't matter. for men, marriage makes them happy, no matter who it is. even a house -- like a shrew? >> well, having a wife is a pretty good deal. having a wife helps a lot. for women, it matters who you marry. matters who you marry a lot. people with children, not happier than people without children. and one of the challenges is that lots of stuff about children is effort. it's work. it's changing diapers, doing laundry, doing the dishes. it's not innately joyful. >> let's talk about the things. i didn't believe this at first. >> i don't agree with this at all. i really don't. >> shopping, eating, exercise and sex. all things, to me, that seem fleeting. like you do it and as soon as you are done, happiness goes away. >> temporary fixes. >> right. so those are things, shopping

doesn't even have to be for you. >> for someone else. >> have you ever had the experience of buying a fabulous gift for someone that you knew was going to make them so happy? >> yeah. >> i love that. >> but that's helping someone. >> exactly. and that's helping someone. >> volunteering. >> yeah. >> volunteering makes people happy. >> i think that's what you are discussing something a little different which is fulfillment. >> yeah. seeing what you can do to impact another human being's life is a wonderful thing. >> there's different kinds of happiness. one is a kinld of -- kind of happy from accomplishment, doing really good things. and you may not be smiling because as you know, it is hard to get things important and substantive done. on the other hand, some people, you know, they are shopping, they are eating, they are happy. >> some people are oblivious to the most beautiful things in the world and they don't even see it. >> don't appreciate it. >> we'll show you everything you need for this weekend to make you happy. >> exactly. >> your must haves for labor day. >> and bobbie thomas is here with her beauty buzz.

>> so they make mcdonald's. >> we're trying to avoid that today. >> so i call that the 6:00 scramble. my suggestion is that they take a few minutes on the weekend to plan ahead and shop for a couple simple meals like the ones i'm going to show you today. so we're making a three-ingredient dijon soy salmon. this is a great thing to do with your kids or with your co-host. have you guys paint on some of this mustard right on top of the salmon. you don't have to go too thin. gives it a lot of flavor. >> like it crusty. >> exactly. >> here we go. >> slap it on there. >> and i like this grainy dijon mustard. and, but you can use any kind of dijon mustard. >> hoda. >> it's not easy. >> you can just do one if you want. >> okay. then what do you do? >> then you just sprinkle on a little soy sauce. >> sprinkle, sprinkle. and if you'd like a sweeter flavor you can always use

teriyaki sauce instead. >> three ingredients, how easy is that? takes no time. about 10 to 12 minutes under the broiler and you are done. >> please go ahead and taste it. that's done. that's three ingredients. >> get involved. is that good? >> thank you. >> oh, my gosh. i do love it with that. >> isn't that good? simple. you'll love the next one. this is my green machine quesadillas. always trying to get more greens into our families' bodies. i could have you each make one of these. a layer, on one side, a layer of avocado and the great thing about quesadillas, i love them like this, but you can customize them to your family's taste. and then a handful of spinach right on top. >> i fixed yours. >> you are like me. a control freak. >> and then a little cilantro. >> and then a little cheese. and a little bit of -- a spoonful of this green salsa. i like the flavor of this green salsa because it's sort of tangy.
