your bay bridge with people slowly commuting to work and maybe thinking of spooky thoughts. why? it is friday, it's also friday the 13th. and this is "today in the bay." >> it's 6:01. good morning. thank you as always for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. happening now firefighters now just leaving the scene of a one alarm fire at a starbucks in san ramon. this is inside a shopping center close to interstate 680 on ramp on crow canyon boulevard. firefighters tell us no other businesses were impacted by that fire. and no reports of injury so far. the cause of the fire is under investigation. right now let's get to you the developing story out in colorado where new evacuation orders are under way this morning for 4,000 people living alk+ boulder creek.

there has been so much rain the last few days people were told to move to higher ground after a witness spotted a 30-foot wall of water that was heading toward the outskirts ever boulder. the good news is the "denver post" reporting that the surge flattened out before hitting the city. this morning rescuers struggling to reach dozens of people in mountain communities who are trapped by all of this flooding. right now at least three people reported dead, another person missing. and the deadly storm dumped more than seven inches of rain in boulder county. president obama has signed an emergency declaration for the affected areas. freeing up federal aid to allow fema now to coordinate disaster relief efforts all over there in that boulder county area. it has been difficult. >> we have new details about a massive fire that swept through the jersey shore boardwalk. gutting all 32 businesses in

seaside park. this is new video from an nbc helicopter. you can see most of the boardwalk is just a total loss. it's so sad. hard to believe. fighters actually still on the scene drenching hot spots with water. overnight a fire spokesman talked to the media saying the fire quickly spread fanned by 30 miles per hour winds. as a last resort firefighters had to actually cut a trench into the boardwalk which had just been rebuilt after superstorm sandy. the spokesman says emotionally crew kansas as are holding up dl of the damage. >> our guys are pretty tough like they are anywhere in new jersey. emotionally i think everybody is pretty sound. after what we went through with hurricane sandy, you know, what else can happen. >> firefighters say the fire is now contained. so far no word on the exact cause though it appears it

started near a frozen custard stand. >> unbelievable the bad luck they are having. closer to home all lanes on southbound 101 in san jose had reopened following a fatal crash. a car hit a pedestrian near brokaw road. this happened last night. officers say the driver did stay at the scene and is cooperating. two southbound lanes were immediately shut down. both were reopened by about 1:00 this morning. the cause of this crash remains under investigation. >> new video to show you of an accident that knocked down a light pole on capital expressway between story road and ocala avenue. the vehicle hit the light pole early this morning. you can see a damaged car, crews are working to fix the downed pole which possibly has exposed

wires. >> we want to tell you about a couple of major changes from the state capital. governor brown expected to sign a bill making it a law soon allowing undocumented immigrants to apply for a driver's license. he is expected to sign a separate bill raising california's minimum wage. marla tellez right now in the newsroom. good morning. >> good morning. both bills past late last night. the one, ab 60, grants undocumented immigrants the right to a driver's license. even the bill's author, he was prepared to put the legislation on hold until next year but no need to, the assembly approved it. 55-19 and the senate. 28-8. the bill says it's up to the dmv to determine what documentation will be required for an immigrant to receive a license. once the paperwork is complete they will receive a special

license marked with the initials dp, driver's privilege. the license will only serve as an i.d. for driving, not meant for employment, voting or public benefits. the other bill that's now green lighted would raise california's minimum wage to $10 an hour. it's at $8. the raise would first bump to $9 next july, in 2014, and then go to $10 an hour in 2016. the high could be the first increase in more than five years. governor wroun says this bill is over due legislation. again he is expected to sign both bills into law soon. coming up about 6:45 i'll have more on the minimum wage debate, one side says this is going to pump billions into the economy. the other says thousands of jobs are going to be lost. >> we'll look forward to it. another seat back will delay did

san jose earthquake stadium opening until 2015. "mercury news" is reporting the 18,000-seat stadium hit a construction delay. it would be the second delay in three months for that facility street from mineta international airport. they expected to play at the start of next season but when builders began excavating the site they found concrete vaults deeper than expected. the opening has been pushed back to at least 2015. >> some like to call christina loren c-low. i'm going to call her dr. feel good. the forecast is so perfect. you keep all of us smiling and feeling the magic. >> just don't call me dr. phil. we need to talk. 60 in oakland, 62 degrees in sunnyvale. how is that working for you. pretty good. throughout the day today, temperatures are going to be

community services in san jose. it's an annual position for me. outstanding. i'll put the information on facebook. thank you for asking. we're looking here. this is a nice smooth flow westbound very slow approaching the toll plaza. there was an earlier traffic break approaching the area. the first set of where the cash lanes and the fast track lanes are. look at the toll plaza camera. we were able to see flashing lights. all the way behind under that bright street light afwuv clock you see those. they have a couple blocked by some sort of incident approaching the toll plaza. chp has yet to get me the details. we're watching a big backup forming as you saw off the berkeley curve approaching the area off the maze.

let's bump this up, take through the lunch time hour and temperatures are going to warm. i want to show you on your contour map where you see this yellow that's cool ocean air. livermore 20 miles to the north in antioch, much warmer so we're going to see the marine influence today, tomorrow all the way throughout the upcoming weekend. 86 degrees on the way to places like livermore. a touch below seasonal averages. you want to hit the beach, the sun's going to come out earlier. 87 degrees. 83 on sunday. beach cities pretty hild, upper 60s to low 70s all1"$ñ weekend . let's check on the drive. that is picking up out there. >> it's looking bad especially for a friday. this is the berkeley curve. this is where the signs going to the bay bridge or to the maze. we do have a very slow drive around the bend and coming off of 580. theish ju just under the

overcrossing at west grant there is a crash. they had to run a traffic break, stopping all traffic. now lanes getting by again but it's backed up. you can't get free until you get to the east parking lot. so everybody is stuck getting over there. we're talking about a slow drive past emeryville and the movie theaters around the workly curve. you see that slowing as you head west. north 880 gets you past that. over to the pay bridge which is light. the approach coming off of the maze because of what was called a sigalert. another half hour to clear that injury accident. it's a lighter flow around the bay, highway 4 not bad and bay point. you see a short stretch. then you recover before you get toward that area. good stuff there. we'll look out for a live look across the san mateo bridge. a good number of cars westbound

toward the high rise and the peninsula. noish views and the bridge itself, san mateo and we'll talk about fremont. as you travel westbound. there was an earlier crash. fremont police addressing what we're told is a big rig. and we have some slow driving heading south, 680 and toward mission blood alcohol level over to 880 that is an issue. if you want to stay clear use the parkway north. from 680 over toward the freeway. into the south bay without any other delay, starting to build north 101 from 680 up to 880. >> thanks so much. >> 6:22. coming up, life imitating art. how about p the plot of a pixar movie going to brand new heights.

there we are, right on time. this morning a look at the nasdaq and the nyse as we look at the opening bell. one of these days, the vibrations are starting to flow, likely we'll see twitter opening that opening bell because the san francisco bay media site says yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's about to go public. good morning everybody. as always thanks for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we have a team in place with new details about the twitter ipo. christie smith is live in san francisco. let's start with scott mcgrew. scott, twitter has proven itself as a cultural force but the ipo really a chance for the company to prove itself as a lasting business. >> it is going to have the funds to last. the company has generally one shot, any company generally one shot to raise money in the public sphere with an ipo selling parts of itself to major

investors. we don't know how much twitter is looking to raise but we figure the company's worth at least $10 billion on paper so they would want to raise more. facebook raised $16 billion in its ipo. twitter filed its plan under that you new jobs act. you can't see their financials yet. you will of course before their debut on the market. that will probably come in november. so let's check in with christie smith. she's live at twitter headquarters. business is watching this offer very closely. >> reporter: you bet they are. good morning. for san francisco standard this is is a quiet corner. you have a coffee shop around the corner, you have a credit union and now across the street you have twitter headquarters. construction workers putting up new condos in the neighborhood tell me that having the twitter ipo plan might rub off into more demand for them. that's what they hope, that the

media giant is making moves to public means hundreds of twitter employees could have a lot more money to spend. real estate agents say it's the perfect place for young millionaires, one penthouse near twitter headquarters is listed for $1.5 million. inventory is low, demand is high, restaurants in the area also seeing more traffic from twitter workers coming in. sometimes in groups of 20 coming to eat. i spoke with one worker building apartments. he thinks others will see a nice pay day too. >> it's good. we need more jobs. good for twitter. this building they have been work on a long time. just put up that twitter sign. they just put that up. they have been working on it. that's good for the jobs and the economy for sure. >> reporter: on the other hand, you have all of these tech dollars flowing in that coko#be more of a challenge for regular families without stacks of cash nearby but for sellers, who have

it should be spectacular. a lot of sunshine coming in. that's a pretty comfortable at 2:00 p.m. in the city. we're talking about with 69 degrees. elsewhere this is what we're looking for. 86 degrees, this is right about at seasonal average. 76 bay side at the coast, 67 degrees, stick around, we're going to tell you what else is happening around the bay area and i have the seven-day forecast coming up in my next report. if you have to leave now, mike's here to help you get there on time. >> good morning folks. i hope you go then if you have to go to the bay bridge toll plaza. you have a wait holding you up. it's west 80 as you approach the toll plaza, that had the sigalert. all lanes have cleared as far as the accident but we have the backup. that released all of the folks held up at west grand avenue. the berkeley curve, we see traffic has recovered so no more backup here. it only took about five minutes for this to start clearing. also slow off of 580 and the maze. but again, friday lighter volume of traffic, recovering nicely here. maps. the maze shows the lag off 24

you still have the slowdown because of the ripple. it takes a while for the clearing to show up. and we do also have nice flow across the san mateo and dumbarton bridges. no big surprises for these guys. a quick look at my buddy allen, found you this. we told you about the crash on mission boulevard westbound as you approach 880, there it is. fremont still covering that and we have a number of lanes as you approach past the mall and there you see a lee's sandwiches. i wonder if they are still there. a slower drive off of 680 over to 880 so use durham to the north. that's a better transition and keeps you clear of this. they have the big rig hooked up. thank you for getting that. back to you guys. >> pull over and get a túsandw. the contentious negotiations between b.a.r.t. and its unions showing no signs of getting better. major negotiations are expected to start next week, b.a.r.t. has met separately with its two largest unions to deal with

new this morning four men in india have been sentenced to death by hanging after being convicted of killing a woman they gang raped on a moving bus last december. the woman died of her injuries two weeks later. the case sparked widespread outrage across india and the world for that matter. and a push for laws to protect women. earlier this week after a trial that lasted nearly seven months the court convicted the four men of murder, rape and kidnapping. lawyers for the men say they will appeal the verdict. >> this morning new video of an attack and suicide bombing taking place near the u.s. consulate in afghanistan.

early this morning unidentified forces drove a truck up to the front gate of the u.s. consulate. they started fighting at that gate and then they blew their truck up. no americans we can tell you were hurt but two members of the afghan security force died in that attack. that fighting we can also tell you is over at this point. the u.s. ambassadors to afghanistan says all consulate personnel are safe. 6:41. coming up, a bay area starbucks scorched in an early morning fire. but the strip mall around it is safe from damage. we'll have details from the scene next. >> and in new jersey, the tough times keep going. first the flood, now fire. we'll show you all of that damage out there at the boardwalk businesses ripped apart by superstorm sandy are again reduced to rubble after this massive fire. >> the morgan fire 95% contained

smashed by superstorm sandy a. fire spokesman says the 6 alarm fire, fanned by 30 miles per hour winds, as a last resort. the firefighters had to cut a wide trench into the boardwalk which had been rebuilt after superstorm sandy. >> look at this new video giving you a look at all of the destruction on the board walk. it's so sad to see. firefighters say the fire completely contained, no word on the cause though it appears it started near a frozen custard stand. >> governor christie said he wanted to throw up after seeing that. to a developing story in colorado. a new round of evacuation orders are forcing thousands to evacuate from their home. they have been hammered by rain. >> jay gray live in boulder, colorado, one of the hardest hit areas in the state.

rescues, again families moved to higher ground and officials say that's something that's going to continue here. we know at least three people have died as a result of these storms, one person is missing. and officials are concerned that that's going to increase. so they are really urging anyone and who is out and about to stay away from the rushing water, even just six inches can do significant damage, pick up a car, knock someone from their feet. that's a concern for a lot of the teams here which have been stretched to their limits working 24 hours trying to secure what they can. get people to safety in a situation that is historic here. when you consider they have seen more than nine inches of rain at this point in the last 24-plus hours. normally in this month they see over an inch so. nine times the amount of rain they see in a mot they have in over a day and it's pushing water into places it's never
