collect it and carroll will challenge and we give it like 99.2% that he wins it. >> cris: they got the look in the stadium that you don't get when you're on the road. watch the knees. i'll tell you when the ball comes out. out. no knees down. >> al: pete is going to challenge. he wouldn't mind another touchdown. a pouring on factor but these guys were used to a little pouring on at stanford a few years ago. >> cris: we have a couple of pouring on stories. that is really one of the beginning moments in this rivalry when pete thought jim ran up the score a little bit when he was with stanford.
9:31 pm
>> al: here is what we were talking about. it goes into the archives in '09. that was harbaugh winning. what is your deal? one of the things that was said. >> cris: handshakes are always interesting with jim, aren't they? >> al: they are. you had the whole jim schwartz thing. >> cris: he is a fiery guy. you can't help but laugh at him a little bit. he so intense all the time. last night we were in our production meetings and michele tafoya said okay if i catch you coming off the field at halftime? >> referee: the ball was loose prior to the runner being down.
9:32 pm
first and ten. >> al: he is going to blow out all of the candles tonight. five turnovers. >> cris: latets say this. in reality what seattle has done in this division is help serve home. now you go back to san francisco and now pressure is on san francisco back there. i'll be stunned if these two teams don't both make the playoffs this year, but no question about it, this is the little step for the seattle seahawks, you know? a second defeat down here feels pretty good. >> al: they will gather again on december 8th in san francisco. robert turbin stopped at the line of scrimmage. we will tick down under 4:00 to go. >> cris: it's been a rough night but for russell wilson, just
9:33 pm
another -- another step. this young man, remember last year? they were so protective of him. they didn't want him to lose a game. they didn't mind losing with him but didn't want him to be the cause. then he had that huge game in chicago, that double comeback, if you will. from that moment on, they were like, "cut him loose." >> al: the win against washington and almost beat atlanta in the playoffs. spencer ware is the ball carrier. 9-0 in this stadium. grew up in virginia. russell wilson's father played in the nfl in preseason with san diego back in 1980. he actually caught a touchdown pass in a preseason game. his dad, of course, was his hero. he died of diabetes a couple of years ago. his sister is a tremendous high school basketball player. meanwhile, the 49ers right now, ray mcdonald is the guy who is
9:34 pm
down and he has been in and out of the game all night long. >> cris: it's one thing when you get beat but another when you start losing your star players and ray mcdonald is one of those really unsung heroes on this football team. they do so much along the defensive line. he and justin smej and now glenn dorsey, they keep those linebackers free. they allow patrick willis and navorro bow plan to rman to run sideline-to-sideline. >> al: a situation where seattle would have had to punt and the neck thing you know, they get a first down and a touchdown. ensuing series. another look here. >> cris: right there it is. see what happens.
9:35 pm
on the back of that knee. you talk to any of these linebackers, though, especially bowman and willis, about all of the all-pro teams they made and all pro bowls and all of is that stuff and you can't get the words out of your mouth before they are talking about toredors and ian williams and ray mcdonald. that is the design of the defense. keep those guys ean and make them make the plays. justin smith is the only guy i've ever seen -- he's made the all-pro team as defensive end and defensive tackle. that's pretty impressive. >> al: he said the other night, a nose tackle on dunn. >> cris: the same year. i've seen guys make it one year defense end and one year defensive tackle.
9:36 pm
he makes it in the same year. >> al: third down and seven. handoff goes to spencer ware. two fullbacks in the backfield right now. that is going to take us almost to the two-minute warning. i think it will. >> cris: it's been a great night for seattle and their defense, no question about it. give some of the big guys up front because tony mccanal and red bryant and mebane and anthony smith shut it down and that guy took care of everything on the back end. richard sherman, as advertised. may be the best in the league right now. he's not afraid to tell you either. >> cris: i'll be in this business in about ten years.
9:38 pm
>> al: after the game, michele on the field with the star of the game. bob, tony, and mike are wrapping up the day. we will take a peek ahead to next week's game in pittsburgh. recap tonight. then we are back to the weather delay. 60 minutes that came toward the end of the first quarter. so a one-hour delay. then kaepernick, tonight, one of his worst nights ever. he hasn't had too many bad ones but they have both been here. russell wilson, the numbers won't be simulating but he is getting the job done. lynch, per usual, major factor. he got the ground game going. 98 yards on the ground. seattle on its way to 2-0. >> cris: it probably was colin kaepernick, one of his worst game ever, but he was the best offensive player for the 49ers tonight.
9:39 pm
>> al: think about that. 87 yards on the ground for him. the rest of the team is 13 net ground yards. on fourth and two, they are going to pick up the first down. spencer ware. that will enable seattle to just run the clock out with a couple of kneel-downs. ware is going to come hobbling off to the side. >> cris: happy birthday, pete. there you go. couldn't ask for a better present than that. he's a guy, al, we were talking about it a little bit before, but, you know, he was in new england and one of those players coaches. and the theory then was, well, you know, that bill parcells and tom coughlin and hard-edged guys are what nfl coaches are all about. but the league has changed, you know? now it's about recruiting free agents and getting young guys excited to play football every day at practice. i tell you, nobody does that better than that guy right
9:40 pm
there. he is mr. enthusiasm 24 hours a day. their practices are up beat and energetic. these players love him. a good reason why they are winning so much. >> al: hard to believe 19 years ago for one season he was head coach for the new york jets. went to new england. got sandwich between parcells leaving and belichick company. i know bob kraft liked him but he had a chance to get belichick and that turned out all right. this will end the game. a kneel-down here by wilson. not particularly pretty. not on a night when you have 22 penalties for 205 penalty yards. nobody's statistics were impressive, but the final score, 29-3. 49ers go home 1-1. they meet indianapolis at candlestick next week. seattle stays here and take on
9:41 pm
9:43 pm
9:44 pm
a resounding statement. the game balls tonight will go to marshawn lynch, who had norl a hundred yards and scored a couple of touchdowns. and richard sherman, who did a shutdown job on anquan boldin and had a pick. their pictures are added to the "sunday night football" bus. it's only richard sherman for the interview but if you know anything about sherman, he can handle it himself. he can fill all the time himself. he's with michele. >> michele: another intense chapter, bob, in this rivalry which has grown into one of the fiercest in the nfl. how would you describe what it was like to play that 60 minutes of football? >> intense. intense. it was a grinder. they changed the plays. their defense and offense came to play and they made our offense struggle a while and their defense came and they stood up and we had to stand up against their offense and they got a lot of fire power. we just kutexecuted. >> michele: anquan bolden 13
9:45 pm
catches and over 200 last week. you shut him down. one catch. how did you do it? >> i don't think it was all on me. i wanted to be disciplined. i wanted that challenge and look forward to it and ask the coach could i follow him around a little bit and see what i could do with him? i studied him hard on film. he's a great player and had a great game last week. i did my best to contain him. >> i saw you run down your old coach at stanford, jim harbaugh and slammed him on the rear a little bit. what is it like to beat him in this fashion? >> a lot of fun. there are pundits and ignorant idiots who thought the seahawks would lose this game. don't doubt us again. every time you doubt us, they look stupid. what was the skoe score last time we beat them? >> it was a big victory. >> they did a great job today. >> michele: congratulations. you're not ignorant idiot, bob.
9:46 pm
we send it back to you. >> it's a relief to hear that, at least from one source. the last two surrounds have gone to seattle and the rematch is december 8th at candlestick park in san francisco. tony dungy, your reaction to tonight's game. >> what you saw was two excellent defenses playing a very physical game. seattle did what they wanted to do. they did get after that offense and stuffed those wide receivers and they played tough in the secondary. but for the first time, i thought i saw colin kaepernick look like a young inexperienced quarterback. he just didn't handle things as well as he needed to. russell wilson didn't have a great game but really pretty much avoided the big mistakes. you saw round one. as you said, round two will happen down in candlestick. i think that will still tell the story of the season when they play them in december. >> thanks, coach, for staying up with us late on the east coast.
9:47 pm
mike, what is one of the big stories you're working on tomorrow? >> the biggest rule change for between relates to the use of the crown of the helmet. through regular season games and preseason games it hadn't been an issue but it was today at lambeau field when safety brandon meriweather lined up eddie lace ry to his helmet. he left with a concussion. no flag was thrown and i'm told a flag should have been throw and meriweather miost likely wil be fined for that. meriweather left the game later suffered on a legal helmet-to-helmet hit. >> thank you, mike. don't miss him on pro football talk tomorrow and every weekday at 5:30 p.m. on nbc sports network. al and cris back to wrap things up from seattle after this. .

9:50 pm
hopefully, we are not not ignorant idiots. >> i qualify on a lot of those fronts. >> next week to pittsburgh 2-0 win against cincinnati and minnesota. a big game for the steelers in particular. >> with the injuries they have got now, they are going to have to be able to prove they can contend in that division. from cincinnati's standpoint, i know they feel like they gave away one last week in chicago. the bears jumping out and marc trestman is getting it done up there. >> on to the steel city. we will see you next sunday night. a wrap from the great northwest.
9:51 pm
9:54 pm
the battle in seattle is over. 49ers, seahawks, and that is se centurylink field. and a one-hour weather delay and a final score of 29-3 in favor of the home seattle seahawks. they beat up the 49ers. i am jim, but we brought some experience to get you through the next 60 minutes, or almost 60 minutes. phil by my side, and 17 years in
9:55 pm
the nfl, and guys, this is was a tough one to swallow if you are a 49er fan. look at the score, doesn't look good for the 49ers. >> no, it comes down to turnovers. and seattle got the turnovers tonight. they were more physical than the 49ers. that's something that the 49ers are not used to. but this team has got their number right now. >> yeah, bill, you are absolutely right. it came down to what teams are going to be physical. you never know what two teams are going to come in and say they are going to impose their will. the running game stood out head and shoulders over the 49ers. >> and everybody looking at the two quarterbacks, kaepernick, and russell wilson, and he may have struggled because of the game one. and you look at the first half
9:56 pm
comparison. neither guy did anything to write home about, did they? not very impressive. >> no, but russell wilson had marchand lynch, and he was able to get yards. that was the difference in the two quarterbacks. >> after the good special teams play by the 49ers, they have a chance to go up early, and kaepernick has something tipped up in the air. >> yeah, you see the cover squatting there. you have to put the ball inside and put it on his chest. this is an opportunity for the 49ers to go up 7-0, and then look at kaepernick, he doesn't look comfortable in the pocket, and all he has to do is step up. you saw kaepernick today look uncanny and not comfortable in the pocket and made bad decisions with the ball, bill. >> right there, his internal clock has got to know that there is going to be somebody coming on his backside. he has to get rid of the football quicker. >> so a struggle for collin
9:57 pm
kaepernick, and then look at the final comparison with these three guys. three interceptions on the day for collin kaepernick, and then in the end, russell wilson was economical at 8 for 19, and 0 for 6 to start the game. not a good day for either quarterback. the running game has to pick this team up. and the running game was not there, and the 49ers relying too much on number 7 to get everything done. >> and yeah, frank gordon did not run the ball today. and today, not even 30 yards rushing and really bad running the ball today. >> and then last week, the guy that collin could count on was bolton. >> let's hear from the 49ers' head coach, jim harbaugh addressing the media after the loss. >> certainly not proud of the
9:58 pm
way we played tonight or coached, no, was not our finest hour. >> reporter: [ inaudible ]. >> just wasn't good enough, you know. and don't feel like we put our players in a position to be successful, because we certainly did not make any plays to be successful, wasn't good football. >> reporter: [ inaudible ]. >> yeah, that was part of the plan, yeah. >> reporter: what do you see as far as the behaviors, were they open, and collin did not have anywhere to throw -- >> yeah, like just did a good job -- did a good job in a lot
9:59 pm
of phases, including that one. >> did the crowd and noise get to him? >> not much. i mean, you do a good job and it's loud. >> reporter: [ inaudible ]. >> we definitely made things harder on ourselves, yes. >> [ inaudible ]. >> i don't think any of us are real proud of our performance tonight. >> reporter: what did you see with [ inaudible ]. >> just looked like he was engaged, zone play, and then backside guard chopped -- came down and cut blocked. you know. >> reporter: [ inaudible ]. i believe it was the way the
10:00 pm
rules were set up. i mean, i didn't anticipate, and we have not gotten any official results from x-rays. >> reporter: [ inaudible ]. >> there was a lot of points, yeah, a lot of points where we were pleased with the way the defense plays, and then we did not get enough first downs to put points on the board. and just, yeah. >> you got beat pretty badly, and you were super bowl winners, and -- >> we have to bounce back in a big way. >> reporter: [ inaudible ]. >> well, i don't know if he knocked himself out or not, and he couldn't remember the play and was assessed
