it is almost 4:31. good morning. i'm jon kelley. i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check the forecast. christina loren back in the studio this morning. good morning. if you have not heard, they did have to postpone the america's cup race yesterday. that was due to the win we told you about. this morning, we do have breezy conditions out there. those will persist today, nothing like yesterday. temperatures are running quite a bit cooler than 24 hours ago with that nice, clear start. also, there is a full moon overhead. check that out. we're going to talk showers coming up in my next report. first, want to check on your drive. say good morning to mike inouye. full moon just helping light the roadways. let's see if it has affect on the drivers. the drive moving smoothly on the 880 southbound. it is 680 southbound where we have an issue at mission. reports of a deer that was hit and killed. it is in the lane, your fast lane, to be specific.

caltrans will clear that lane. northbound, flowing. i will check chp. 4:32 right now. we're learning more today about the gunman in monday's mass shooting at the washington naval yard. a police report showing just last month, aaron alexis reported hearing voices during a stay in a rhode island hotel. law enforcement officials say, he is being treated for serious mental problems is when he moved to washington, d.c. for work. his security clearance was not stripped, allowing him access to the building where he shot and killed 12 and wounded 8 others. this incident is fueling more debate. no surprise about gun control. >> we do not have a firm enough background check system. >> we are going to move this up as quickly as we can. we have to have the votes. we don't have the votes we can also tell you the

navy is ordering reviews of its secures system, including how accurately it screens its workers. san jose tweeted these pictures of a fire that broke out on the east side near mt. pleasant high school. the tweets say the fire is under control. an elderly woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. she is in stable condition the police asking for the public hess he pubic's help looking for a driver that hit a blind reverend before taking off. >> he says he was on his way to meet his wife at a starbucks when a woman backed her car into him near myrtle street and sparrow court. the reverend had his guide dog with him. the woman asked him if she was okay before she eventually drove off. police say they are right now investigating this as a hit and

run. >> i yelled to her, you hit me and slammed on her trunk with my fist. she stopped. i proceeded to pull the dog back. >> this is time for the community to step up for the reverend and let us know who did this. >> the reverend for his dog were hurt. he hopes the woman will come forward and apologize san jose police releasing new photos of a man suspected in a rash of commercial break-ins. this is the man. police think he is part of a group that committed six burglaries in the area of 25th avenue and el camino last wednesday. if you know him, call san mateo police a total of four bank robbers on the run after ripping off a bank in fremont. they walked into the wells fargo on fremont and union yesterday afternoon and then ordered everybody to get down on the floor. two of them jumped over the

counter and they demanded money. all four of them managed to escape in a green honda sedan. police now say nobody was hurt and no weapons were actually seen. 4:35. menlo park police officers will soon be outfitted with cameras. the two-inch cameras will clip to the front of officer's uniforms. the department has 40 cameras but they haven't been used yet because the department needs to upgrade its computer system, which could take a few more months. camera recordings will be downloaded in the police department and kept for at least 2.5 years. the cameras were paid for through a state grant. in all, they cost $65,000. a situation at the coliseum expected to be fixed in time for this afternoon's game. maintenance workers are working to clean up a sewage backup. the toilet clogged near the

seventh inning. not the first toilet trouble. back in june, a sewage backup spilled into both clubhouses and clubhouse level bathrooms. the a's say they will have the new problems fixed in time for the pitch at 12:35. >> in a word, that's nasty. this sewage problem coming on the heels of remarks from the a's owner about lou wolf. he is telling usa "today," quote, there is something wrong here. you would think with our league, people would want to come out and count down the magic numbers and all that stuff. you would think this time of year when the teams are in the standings and where every game means something, people would come out. it's depressing. i really expected crowds to be huge this week. it would just be nice if people didn't wait until the playoffs to show up. speaking of the magic numbers, lou, don't worry about it. we are talking. we are counting down. the a's magic number now at six thanks to a walkoff win in the ninth inning last night.

this was quite the ball game. josh donaldson singles with the bases loaded. that is all she wrote. that is the game. it seals the a's 2-1 win over the angels. any combination of the a's wins and losses -- the a's wins along with the rangers losses, that would equal six and gives the a's the american league west title and sends them into the postseason. >> we are watching and we are watching america's cup. the boats will try to get back on the water today after gusty winds forced organizers to postpone yesterday's races. the races starting at 1:15. oracle is trying to avoid elimination and currently trails new zealand by six wins. if the kiwis win both races today, they will win the america's cup. as long as the weather cooperates, the races will air on cozi tv or on air 11-2. >> christina loren was there.

follow-up. new charges against the 20-year-old ymca daycare worker accused of molesting little girls. he is now accused of molesting four young girls, one of them just three-years old. all of the victims attended the ymca's daycare in morgan hill. if convicted, he is facing life in prison. three bay area police agencies will get new officers thanks to federal grants. oakland will receive $4.5 million, enough to hire ten new officers. hayward and east palo alto were awarded money also to hire new officers it is 4:40. coming up on "today in the bay," trashing your trash will. we'll let you know why san jose will be getting rid of the monthly and by monthly garbage bill for homeowners turning on tesla. why california car dealers are

welcome back, 4:44. time to dump the traditional trash bill. san jose moving closer to bi-yearly billing. it will change the way homeowners pay for their garage. instead of paying every other month. it calls for homeowners to pay for their crash collection along with their county property taxes in twice yearly installments starting in july, 2014, just like you do for sewer service. the change would save the city $3.2 million a year state officials here in california are trying to straighten out a computer glitch, which is keeping thousands from getting their unemployment benefits. the office recently stopped mailing checks in favor of direct deposit but the new computer system has not been sending the money to bank accounts. some people have not received their unemployment check since

labor day. >> very frustrated. it is frustrating for us as well. this is not what we certainly want for our customers. we are doing everything, everything we possibly can to catch up with these people. >> the eed says it has a total of 800,000 claims. so far, they have resolved about 15,000 cases. officials are not saying when they expect to have prothe prob fixed but they are asking people to be patient. car dealers in california going after tesla, criticizing the automakers advertising. they are accusing tesla of inflating savings customers get by including federal and state incentives in its final price quotes. the group is asking the dmv to investigate whether this is deceptive and violates the laos. tesla has not commented speaking of tesla, the palo alto company now talking about

the driverless car business. plus, all eyes on the fed as investors need to see if interest rates will finally be going up. seema mody is live. she has all of our business headlines. good morning. >> futures right now higher. stocks closing up on tuesday with a downed s&p 500 ending at six-week highs. investors are awaiting the fed, which wraps up a two-day meeting. they are expected to announce they will reduce their massive bond-buying program which has helped to keep the interests low. the dow rising 34 points, the dow, 7. the white house has filed a petition with the scc to require all wireless carriers to unlock mobile devices so customers can easily switch providers.

it is the final wednesday of the summer. as we head throughout the day, the winds will play a factor. let's get to the important stuff. tracking showers for you. here is what's interesting. we have showers for the greater bay area. the deal is, most of it is going to come down while you are sleeping. we stopped that clock at 7:00 p.m. on friday. friday night into saturday is when we are tracking the showers. stop it again at 1:00 a.m. on saturday morning. look at this. a little bit of activity from morgan hill north to san jose. getting a little bit of shower activity, enough to purify our air quality out there and it is actually pretty interesting. this is the final day, saturday, of summertime. we kick off fall on sunday. both of us will be out of here. as we head throughout the first part of saturday, you can get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful day. saturday looking really good for your outdoor plans in the afternoon hours. 87, livermore, 87, concord. 73, san francisco. getting right to that seven-day forecast. after all, wednesdays, it is the halfway point. you start thinking about the weekend. you want to make those plans.

started underneath a section of the boardwalk that housed an ice-cream store and a candy store. they are blaming high floodwaters and sand that reached electrical systems during the storm for damaging the wiring. the fast-moving fire destroyed more than 50 businesses. we have brand new video this morning of a very, very close call at a train station. this is pretty scary stuff. a man trying to get to the other side of the tracks barely avoids getting hit by a speeding train. you can see he gets knocked to the ground by the rushing wind. basically, he was all right. queens island train officials say he illegally barged through closed p closed pedestrian gates. he almost got killed. now, he is facing charges and could possibly pay thousands in fines for barging through that area. >> you see peopling around out of touch. >> exactly, listening to their

welcome back. good wednesday morning. a new city has officially tossed its hat into the ring from a bid for the 2024 olympics. los angeles supervisors voted to bid. philadelphia, dallas and washington have made moves to host the game. san francisco also considering submitting a bid. los angeles has hosted the summer olympics twice in the past. >> we don't want to get too far ahead. if the 49ers happen to make it back to the super bowl, bay area football fans, you can expect to pay a heavy price if you are planning to see the game live. tickets are expected to almost double what they were in new orleans. the nfl says the price jump is an effort to close the gap between the face value of the

tickets and what they ultimately sell for on sites like ticket stub hup. premium seats are expected to cost $2600. again, that's face value, not scalpers. that's compared to $1200 last year. next year's seats go for $1500, compared to $950 in new orleans. general admission are expected to cost just under $1,000. bottom line, ain't cheap. >> watch it at home. such a price efficient wait to do it. >> we're going to mike's house. >> you are bringing the wings. you have quite an expensive represe repertoire of rings you can produce. >> i'll bring the wings the bay bridge toll plaza, traffic is open. all lanes look like there is a nice, easy drive right now. we had a couple of folks waiting
