overnight road work is causing an issue, both directions slowing with the southbound side off 980 and tenth we see slowing. they may be getting ready an moving some of the crews. expect the slowdown. not a big deal past it. as you approach, smooth off of the castro valley. >> a scary scene, a toddler and two teens among the 13 people injured following a shooting at a park in chicago. this shooting happened about 8:00 last night in the city's back of the yards neighborhood. the wounded they were taken to several area hospitals and a 3-year-old boy suffered an injury to the head. he remains in critical condition. a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were also among those shot. so far authorities have not made arrests. police say they believe this shooting is, in fact, gang related. >> it's 4:32. san francisco police searching

for a shooter who killed a man and injured a woman last night. it happened in the area of 23rd and arkansas. police say both victims were in a car when they were hit. large crowd gathered aye and officers had to use pepper spray to get the people to clear out. one officer was taken to the hospital. police have not identified any suspects. >> we have new details on a car linked to a triple shooting in antioch that leave as woman dead and two men hurt earlier this month. investigators are looking for a 1999 gold toyota solara similar to this one. the car has a spoiler on the back and california license plate reading 5jlm 717. sheriff's department believes that car was involved in the shooting at the paradise skate rink. a 31-year-old woman was killed and two men were injured. investigators say the car and the suspects may have ties to

oakland or san joaquin county. >> a former san mateo county probation chief found guilty of possessing child pornography will be sentenced. 52-year-old stuart james forest was arrested in december after the postal inspection service reported hundreds of images of child pornography on his personal computer. forest claims he bought child pornography to do research for his job. he faces up to three years and eight months in prison and will have to register as a sex offender. >> former supervisor george shirakawa facing a charge for allegedly sending a phony mailer insulting a council candidate back in 2010. today a judge will hold a hearing on his request to dismiss that charge. earlier this year you may recall

that he admitted to misusing funds. >> a group is urging governor brown to veto a bill that would require all limos to have emergency exits. the greater california livery association wrote to the governor to protest saying the standards are not clearly defined and the time table for the upgrades is unrealistic. the bill cleared the legislature last week and is a waiting the governor's signature t bill in response to the deadly fire earlier this year. five women died when flames blocked the doors at the back of the limo. another bill requiring safety inspections on limos that carry fewer than nine passengers is on its way to the governor's desk. >> a new group of officers graduating from the oakland police department. the 167th academy class in the city's second academy of police officers this year. a lot of people in the community say it's not enough. a growing number of homeowners in the oakland hills area have

hired their own private security to drive through the neighborhood and respond to alarms. something oakland's police department does not have the manpower to do. >> break-ins while people are sleeping, there's loitering, prostitution, there's drug dealing. >> the police aren't going to show up for an hour or two and are not responding to burglar alarms. >> we're doing everything to put our money behind our mouth it is and get the cops on the streets. >> to cover this security residents pay an average of $20 per month for their private security guard. >> in a few hours the newest iphone will go on sale in stores across the bay area. apple stores will open at 8:00 this morning. this is the new apple store in downtown palo alto where it's no surprise people lined up overnight to get their hands on an iphone 5s and 5c. >> if we didn't have to work we could be there laying on the

we have a small craft advisory issued across bay, winds expected to be stronger which team oracle has liked the stronger wind conditions but we'll see if this allows the race to get in around 1:15. the wind speed 15 to 20 miles per hour as we go through the afternoon with some higher gusts across the bay. so, it will be a game time decision as they say seeing if the race gets under way. 40s and 50s this morning, for the afternoon 60s and 70s for highs. look at livermore in the tri-valley, yesterday near 90, dropping big time today as you can see we've got clouds here on the increase, these clouds will start to spread over the bay area, heading into the evening and that's the reason why the seven-day forecast has a chance of rain tonight for the north bay, scattered showers to kick off the weekend and a mild and breezy but drier finish as we head into sunday. >> we're watch the clouds, don't want them to drift near noon. i'll be in san francisco at the heart walk. we're looking toward san jose

north 101 moves nicely now and no problems for this area. there was a crash on the overpass at the top. clearly it is dark so you saw one set of car lights. as you make the transition from 280 from 680, at 101. sometimes i throw that map up to show you where we are. looking at an easy drive for the rest of the south bay and light volume as you saw, traffic over the bay, the dumbarton bridge, 84 and the san mateo bridge smooth here and there is a live look at the san mateo bridge. a light volume westbound with the taillights and we're waiting for the eastbound headlights to approach the camera. >> also waiting to hear more about a different bay area bridge, mike, a live look at the golden gate bridge where later this morning plans to close the bridge for an entire weekend will become official. yesterday, golden gate bridge district committee approved a plan to buy and install a movable median barrier to help

tell you about now. police outside of a san francisco building this morning where a man has apparently then climbing that structure and is up there trying to rob a bank. christie smith is live in san francisco right now. christie, you're on scene. what are you hearing about this guy? >> reporter: good morning. we just got here. san francisco firefighters have an aerial ladder truck they have been moving around from rooftop to rooftop which allows san francisco police to go up on top. i asked one police officer about the man that they are looking for because there's a bank of america here on the block and he said that it appears that this man that they are looking for may have tried to rob that bank. police say they are looking for a man dressed in black, possibly carrying a crow bar. they said one officer said when you go in and possibly rob a bank it's likely that you have a gun so they are trying to be very careful. they don't know if he has

another weapon yet at all. at this point they haven't had a chance to get a good look and see if there is damage to that bank or other buildings but they are looking for someone who appears to go from rooftop to rooftop on san bruno avenue. police talking to each other trying to make sure all angles of the rooftop are covered from block to block. police asking us to get back as well. it looks like they are going to shut this street down to bus traffic as well. at this point police not saying much, just that they are looking for possible burglary suspect on the rooftop. the street closed off. as soon as i get more information i'll let you know. that is the situation from here. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you, christie. we now have a possible motive for the horrific killings at the washington navy yard. aaron alexis began on the fourth floor building 197 where he shot

people he worked with. witnesses tell the post supervisors had concerns about about alexis' job performance. investigators looking into whether that led up to the rampage where he killed 12 people. alexis was killed in gun with police. investigators say once the first people were shot everyone else had the misfortune of crossing alexis' path. we're finding out the same contractor that gave alexis his security clearance is also the person who screamed edward norton. both were screened by a private company walled usis based in virginia a. new review finds the government is overwhelmed and does not have enough resources to adequately investigate 5 million americans who have security clearances. >> to the market this is morning, investigators i should say investors cooling down after the fed surprise decision to

continue the free money practices. seema mody is live with that and of course she has the rest of our business news. good morning. >> good morning. absolutely. good morning. futures mixed as the fed market rally sizzled. the dow stopping a four-day winning streak but on pace for a third week of gains. there is no economic data out today but federal key officials will speak out this afternoon. the dow falling 40, the nasdaq up by 5. they introduced the world to captain jack but now parting ways. disney will end its deal with producer jerry bruckheimer, the man behind the pirates of caribbean and the lone ranger. they will work on a fifth pirates film but that's now been delayed. >> thank you for the update. >> nearly 70 people are missing after a massive landslide in mexico as tropical storm manuel continues to drench the pacific

coast. rock tumbled down the hillside in the remote village. the land slide swept away homes, buried half the town and 68 people missing. it was triggered by days of rain. look at all of that water. the death toll has risen to 97. officials suggest some of those missing may have taken shelter in neighboring areas. this is actually amateur video showing the extent of the damage. army helicopters have been rescuing residents and bringing them to acapulco. around 400 people survived the land slide. >> calling that the worst storm in some 50 years. unbelievable. 4:49. here in the bay area we have it much, much smoother. a crispy start but another nice one. >> we'll see a pretty nice day though cooler than yesterday. this morning you need a jacket as you head out in the north

bay, 40s and 50s across the bay area now we have a stronger sea breeze, return to low clouds into san francisco and it will be a cooler day at the ballpark for the oakland a's. the temperatures upper 60s with increasing clouds. the rain should hold off but by tonight in the north bay we'll start to see really a sneak preview of what fall weather looks like. you normally see this around october but we're going to get it tonight into tomorrow. notice hour by hour, clouds increasing, some rain showing up in the north bay by 7:00. as we go into tomorrow morning. then it's the cooler air arrives and more moisture comes in. now you're starting to see the rain come on through. sunday looks to be the drier after half of the forecast. today, highs down from yesterday, upper 70s in san jose and really hardly 80s inland around the try valley. 67 in san francisco, and now only 70s in the north bay so. a taste of fall coming in
