i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to on this now monday morning. let's check the forecast and say good morning to meteorologist christina loren. >> hey, good morning to you at home. couple things you want to keep in mind for this morning. the fog and the drizzle is back at the coast. temperatures are pretty mild out there, look at san francisco, starting the day at 65 degrees, 62 in livermore and 59 in san jose. pretty mild out there to kick off the day. we're still counting on showers moving into the bay area as we head throughout this afternoon. and i'm going to be tracking the showers, tell you who is going to see the most action. that's coming up. first, good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. talking about the low clouds, mist and rain possibly the showers, so watch for those the first to hit your area after a long dry spell. looking at the toll plaza, a little sheen on the road, no problem. watch the speeds around the bends. we look from the emeryville camera to the high rise traffic

light, but the low clouds do touch the tops of the new suspension span. there will be an issue at times. we'll track that. the visibility into san francisco is all right so far. >> thank you. investigators this morning looking into what caused a small plane to crash down in southern california, the small plane crashed into a storage hangar after landing at the santa monica airport last night. this crash started a large fire which destroyed the hangar and caused minor damage to two other buildings. officials say the twin engine cessna took off from haley, idaho. we don't know how many were on board but at a news conference, a captain with the fire department said it was. quos, an unsurvivable crash. >> we're getting word of an arrest in a crash that killed a boy. the chronicle is reporting that police arrested a woman on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

investigators say she crashed her car into a minivan. 16-year-old kevin sand was killed. police did not release the woman's name but did say it does not look like alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. they also say the woman was driving up to 80 miles an hour before the crash. >> the family of an l.a. dodgers fan stabbed to death in san francisco now making an emotional plea for witnesses to please come forward. the family of 24-year-old jonathan denver speaking to reporters yesterday before the giants ball game. after the killing police arrested 21-year-old michael montgomery of lodi but he was released friday night when prur prosecutors say they lacked evidence to file charges. denver's father choked back tears as he recalled attending last wednesday's giants game against the dodgers that was in san francisco with his two sons,

celebrating his 49th birthday. >> i will always cherish the time me and my sons spent here at the game. more than once that night jonathan told me how much he loved me. >> heartbreaking to listen to and watch. the victim's father robert is convinced somebody has cell phone video of the fight that led ultimately to his son's death. he says he doesn't imagine the suspect's family is also suffering. >> the stabbing evoking memoriesch the bryan stow attack. he was at a fundraiser in his honor. you see him as he geared on the giants. he gave a big thumbs up. he suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2011 when he was beaten at dodger stadium on opening day. he needs 24-hour care. two men were arrested in stow's beating. they are still awaiting trial.

>> 4:34 now. two women rushed to the medical center after an afternoon barbecue goes wrong. investigators say a can of cooking spray exploded after sitting near a very hot barbecue. the women were at a beach when this all happened. paramedics rushed them to a nearby hospital by helicopter. officials say one of the women has so far already been released. we're told the other remains in stable condition. >> police in the south bay now say they arrested more than 100 people in what was described as one of the largest rave frs in the bay area. the event was called beyond wonderland. it was a two-day festival wrapping up last night. most arrested were for alcohol and drug-related charges. they tried to curb drug use by placing amnesty boxes at the venue, a chance to drop off drugs with no questions asked. >> the countdown continues on

capitol hill. in less than 17 hours the government could partly shut down. here is the countdown clock. under 6 1/2 hours away. the government trying to do some things to come together for a change. hopefully keep our fingers crossed. house republicans say they will continue approving a spending bill that also calls for a one-year delay in implementing key parts of obama care. harry reid says when the senate reconvenes it will reject the house's latest spending bill. if a shutdown goes into effect it would be the first time this has happened in 17 years. the government would keep open operations and agencies that protect life and limb, but national parks would likely close immediately along with other non-essential programs temporarily shutting down including many right here in the bay area. coming up at 5:00 and 6:00 we'll look at how a number of these

services and jobs in the bay area will be specifically affected. >> also a little rain headed our way. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren on this monday morning. >> hey, good morning to you laura, jon, everybody at home. we've got a pretty good looking day south of the golden gate bridge. if you're waking up with us in the north bay, count on a few showers later on. i want to start with your wind speeds. we're on the warm side of this area of low pressure. so it's pretty balmy. mostly in the upper 50s to low 60s and winds coming out of the west, onshore flow has returned. give you an idea where the showers are for the most part, north of the area. north, well north of sonoma county. they are all going to spread to the south as we head throughout the next few hours. expecting our showers around 9:00 a.m. on shore flow for today is going to bring a lot of that cloud cover in to start the day. we expect mostly cloudy conditions all the way inland. highs, 79 degrees in livermore. 75 for fremont and 67 in san francisco.

like i said, futurecast, seven-day outlook coming up. first want to check your drive and say good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning, christina. we're looking toward the north bay. a little dark but i want to show you there is still traffic southbound, no problems for the flow, as far as the speed goes through san rafael, but let's start on the maps north where we have north 101 and highway 12 heading up to santa rosa there is a crash reported there. no injuries but there is slowing through the area. southbound your commute direction moves smoothly. we showed you that a little construction through san rafael and again, no problem as far as speed. an easy drive across the richmond/san rafael bridge. no problems at the maze with the arrow and a live look at the foster city side, a smooth drive now. a clear view at the peninsula side. we'll watch as the clouds drift around. back to you. >> on the subject of getting around bay area we continue

following b.a.r.t. negotiations, a shutdown could be happening in less that two week. both sides cannot agree on a new contract soon. b.a.r.t. meeting with each union separately this weekend, all expected back at the bargaining table at 1:00 this afternoon and that meeting is likely to cover topics relating to both contracts including salary, pension contributions, and medical premiums. the 60-day cooling off period that ends october 11, that is a week from this coming friday. >> it's 4:39. forget supplies in space, how about something that can make supplies in space. how a local start-up is making it happen. >> new images from inside the kenyan mall where a terrorist group took dozens hostage. the latest on that next. >> and japan's famed fish market, why they were on hold.

nasa getting ready to launch the first 3-d printer in space. and they hired a silicon valley start-up to build this. mountain view's made in space currently creating a customized 3-d printer able to manufacturer parts away from earth. this is how it works. the printer built to handle the environmental changes of outer space, the printer will reduce the need load up with every tool, spare part or supply when they are going far away. nasa planning on testing the printer for strength and accuracy and that will happen some time next year. >> schools across the country dropping out of the federal school lunch program rather than face new standards. agriculture department reports more than 500 schools out of about 100,000 cut ties with the program in the past year. the program reimburses schools for meals served, gives access to lower priced foods. some schools say the

reimbursement was not enough to offset losses from student who is began avoiding the lunch line when healthier meals were introduced. >> the trial for the bp gulf oil spill reaching phase two. for the rest of the news before the bell let's turn things over to courtney reagan live at cnbc. good morning. >> good morning to you, jon. futures lower as investors start to get a bit uneasy over the prospects of a government shutdown. if there is no deal on that by mid october the u.s. could default on its bills. today we'll get data on manufacturing. on friday the dow fell 70 to 15,258 t nasdaq losing 5 to 3782. the civil trial over the bp gulf oil spill enters phase two. bp and the justice department back in court in new orleans.

they will be jousting over how much oil was leaked during the attempt cap the well. it will determine how much bp in fines bp will have to pay under the clean water act. one of casualties of shutdown will be the release of data including friday's jobs trofrmt labor department says all operations would cease and all of the agencies workers furloughed. the department says it's possible that the data could be released if the white house budget gives authorization. there is precedent during the last shutdown in 1995 to 96 the clinton administration released the consumer price index because of the risk of the data leaking out. >> thank you. we'll check back later. >> right now we have bitter news for the chocolate lovers. prices of cocoa could go up, part of the blame to dry weather and poor harvest expected in west africa. there is a growing demand for

day. feeling tropical in san francisco. plenty of low clouds throughout and you're at 65 degrees right now. showers are well to our north but we're on the warm side of this area of low pressure. it's a cold front so there are two sides to every system you've got the warm side which we're on now, lots of clouds out there, it feels good. once this cold front comes through later today temperatures are going to drop so it's going to be a cool day, i want to make sure you're prepared especially at the coast. this is where the showers are well to our north. well north now is santa rosa. they will move in throughout the morning hours. by about 9:00 a.m. we expect our first significant steady rainfall up in the north bay. i stop the clock to give you an idea as you pack the kids up getting ready to hit school, we are going to see mostly cloudy condition, a little fog and drizzle as of 7:00 a.m. by about 9:00, getty rainfall in sonoma county. stop that clock at noon. a little shower activity and then everything clears out throughout the second half of

the day. comfortable temperatures though. fall-like numbers. 79 in livermore, 75 in fremont. 67 in san francisco. your seven-day outlook tells the story. no major changes tuesday into wednesday. then into this weekend we climb again which means another round of great beach weather. back to you, jon and laura. >> here we go. 4:48. to kenya where we're learning more about the deadly terrorist attack at a shopping mall. these photos just released taken after last week's attack. they reveal more damage, the upscale stores and restaurants now getting gutted. meantime, after days of forensic investigation on site, kenya's interior minister says no additional victims were found. this morning a total of 67 now confirmed dead, during the news conference kenya's interior minister also asking the u.s. government to lift a travel warning it issued following the attack. >> we cannot and shall not allow

terrorists to instill fear in our people. and so we request the u.s. as a friendly country to thrift travel advisory. >> he also announces five terrorists were killed and nine other possible terrorists are in custody. one of them was just arrested yesterday. all are believed affiliated with al qaeda. >> suspected extremist attacked an agricultural college in nigeria yesterday. as many as 50 students were killed as they slept in dorms. it was the latest report of violence during an uprising. a surviving student said almost all of those killed were muslims. college officials say there are no government security forces stationed at the college despite government assurances they would be deployed. >> new problems to report for boeing's dreamliner aircraft. the jet operated by poland making an unschedule landing because of a malfunctioning

antenna. that's just one day after another dreamliner was grounded for an electrical problem. the dreamliner was expected to be a game changer for the industry but no secret it's faced multiple seat backs including several battery problems grounding numerous planes. >> octopi caught off the coast of fukushima being sold amid radioactive water concerns. sales were suspended after radioactive material was found in the waters around the power plant. authorities gave the green light for fishing and the first catch now reaching the market. the decision comes after additional testing detect in order radioactive materials in sea water or seafood near the plant. >> i have to admit i like calimari but those shots are not appetizing. >> want to test it. >> especially the nuclear stuff. how about tina fey, she was on
