morning. >> good morning. we do have fog this morning. we have patches of low clouds that will stick around almost till lunch time. west of the golden gate, coastal low clouds at times. not a bad afternoon, we should see 68 in san francisco, 73 in san jose, mid 70s inland today but later tonight we could see some sierra snow showers. we'll let you know if that includes a chance of showers around the bay area later today. >> a developing story this morning. more chicken under recall by the usda because salmonella contaminati contamination. they may be contaminated with the same strains of salmonella that have sickened more than 300 people across the country. here are the products to look for in your fridge or freezer.

resistant to anti-be bantibioti. >> the rules are changing at san francisco general following the death of a patient found in a stairwell. they now must manually deactivate security alarms that go off. they will conduct a review of security systems. lynn spaulding, a patient, was found dead in a stairwell nearly three weeks after she vanished from her hospital room. >> bart negotiations ended at around 10:00 last night. they will continue to eke out a new contract to avert a sunday night strike. it was a long day of negotiating, 12 hours in all. at one point union representatives said they were expecting a new proposal to come their way. bart's negotiator said he was prepared to present a new deal.

regulations and they can consider hosting gun shows. the government did ban hunting with ammunition containing lead, or leaving a loaded weapon in a place where a child might accidentally get ahold of it. he also approved a law banning the kits to convert regular ammunition magazines into high capacity magazines. >> we know the world series is not in the oakland a's future this year. what is unclear is which city the a's will call home. san jose says it is a winner in a suit regarding major league baseball but mlb is also claiming victory. a judge essentially issued a split decision. part of the ruling say san hope say could not challenge baseball's longstanding anti-trust exemption, meaning the league could block the a's move to the south bay but the judge added san jose could move forward in another part of the

lawsuit in which it claims baseball interfered with the a's deal to move south. >> it mansour case against major league baseball will continue in federal court, we'll able to do some discovery and get to the bottom of why the commissioner refuses to ask the owners to allow the a's to move to san jose. >> married is happy with the decision. >> lawmakers finally seem to be negotiating ten days into the shutdown and five days before a possible debt default. republican senators discussed a six-month solution with the president yesterday. it would reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling. in exchange, the obama administration would approve a small change to the new health care law, a controversial tax would be delayed. but nothing is set in stone yet. lawmakers in the house and the senate are set to work through the weekend. >> first lady michelle obama

people have signed up for health insurance on covered california, the state's way to access obama care. more than a million people have checked out the web site. many people are confused about the process. >> right now this small business owner pays $950 a month to insure himself, his wife and two children through kaiser. so he's come hearing to find out if the new affordable care act is truly affordable. he was stunned to learn he can get a similar kaiser plan for his family for $400 less. >> that's almost $5,000 a year, you know, saving it and that $5,000 is a lot. >> ricky is an owner of the auto

repair shop with four employees. he's hoping with the savings he'll be able to offer his employees medical insurance. >> i can hire more people because a lot of people doesn't want to work for you because you have no benefits. >> alfonso hopes more people will make appointments to get help getting coverage. >> we want to get the word out on how to apply, who to call to apply, places you can go, how to use the shop and compare tool. >> now that he knows his potential savings, he said he can't wait to sign up and looks forward to feeling the relief of the pain of skyrocketing health insurance costs.

cyclists will try to raise $1 million for challenged athletes foundation. hopefully their ride will be uneventful but very profitable. rob mayeda has a look at the forecast. >> 50 in san francisco, 48 right now in san jose. later today we'll see a sea breeze coming in. visibility is down to a quarter mile in santa rosa. you'll see patchy fog over to gilroy and south of morgan hill this morning. high clouds will come in later on this afternoon. this is a weather system dropping mainly in toward the

sierra. if you're going to head to the high country later tonight, we will see snow showers at time tonight into early tomorrow. we should see at least a dusting of snow out of that. so keep that in mind if you're going to travel interstate 80 or highway 50 closer to midnight tonight. back to the bay area, patches of low clouds around the bay. by lunchtime we'll see clearing skies and still those patches of low clouds on the coast, sunshine inland today and high clouds go on by and lart tonight we'll see a few extra clouds, maybe a few showers offshore. most of the clouds will be inland. 73 today in san jose, mid 70s, probably as warm as it's going to get around bait area today, mainly for the tri-valley. highs near 70 degrees into the north bay, low 70s in santa

something. >> your photo and name will come from your google plus profile or your google account. the ads with your endorsement would be shown to your friends, followers in the public when they do a google search. but tech analyst rob enderly says there could be a problem here. >> the problem is if you get something and you didn't like it, it's still going to look like you like it. you're advocating a product you didn't like. >> facebook is already doing this on its media sites, your friends' likes are showing up on ads. >> if they had on outback steakhouse on facebook, i can click like. but if they want to put me in an ad like that, they have to have another button that says i'll endorse this. >> there there be an opt-out feature but some wonder if people will remember to opt out.

success. garvin thomas has this morning's "bare area proud." >> we like to play ball! >> for two partners in a failed relationship, julie and her dog flower seem to get along great. >> this is what we like it do every day. >> judy said flower is the best dog she's ever had. so what's failed about it? well, 13-year-old flower came to live with judy earlier this year as a foster dog, a temporary situation until someone else adopted her. well, that someone turned out to be judy. >> she just follows me. >> in the business that's called a foster failure, though judy only sees the success in it and how it never would have happened without muttville and sherry franklin. >> who is the new papa? >> it was seven years ago that sherry, a hair stylist by trade, came upon her passion in life. volunteering at the spca, she was touched by the fate of most senior dogs. >> a lot of the older dogs at

the time it was quite a while ago at the time weren't making it out of the shelter. >> so sherry opened up not just her heart but her home. for six years muttville was run out of her home. it has proven such a success, though, they've now opened up their own space next to the spca. many of the senior years up for adoption living a cage-free life at their headquarters. sherry thought their first year when they adopted out 27 dogs was a good year. last year the number was 500. >> and then in the next two weeks we will have rescued 2,000 dogs. 2,000 senior dogs. most of those dogs would have been killed at shelters. so we've saved 2,000 lives. >> this might be the dogs coming. >> but as great as 2,000 is, it's only a fraction of the need. sherry says for every one senior

loss of his 2-year-old son. police say the boy was assaulted by the mother's current boyfriend at their home in south dakota. the boy died at the hospital yesterday afternoon. two days ago paramedics were called to the home supposedly because the boy was shaken but doctors say he was either shaken or hit in the head. >> the boy's mother was also hit in the head with a metal rod. adrian peterson said he plans to play this sunday because football is his way to cope. >> malala did not win the nobel peace prize. she was welcomed to the oval office. the 16-year-old activist who was

nsa systems contractor edward snowden was honored with a reward by a group of retired u.s. national security officers. videos released by wikileaks shows snowden being presented with the sam adams award, an analyst who accused of u.s. military of deliberately underestimating the enemy's strength for political purposes. snowden was granted temporary asylum in russia after spending a month stuck in a russian airport. >> these programs doesn't make us more safe. they hurt our economy, they hurt our country, they limit our ability to speak and live and be creative, to have relationships, to associate freely. >> snowden, the self-identified

the sky not looking so blue. it's a little bit hazy. it's a chilly start and will stay comfortable all day long. >> the a's regular season exceeded expectations while the postseason did not. you can look at the 96 wins, you can look at the second straight division tight bull for manager bob melvin and general manager billy bean, it was a tough day. >> it was disappointing last year but not like this because we expected this year to go

this time from fremont. you can see areas of low clouds out there and very cool temperatures to get your day started right now. we've dropped to 36 degrees in novata this morning. we'll see a sea breeze picking up as we head to the afternoon. the areas of low clouds a bit of an issue around the north bay this morning and napa. a quarter mile visibility around downtown san francisco up towards the north bay. this will probably take around noontime for clouds to break up. we'll see mid and high-level clouds coming in from a weather system that will drop in on the east side of the see area. -- sierra. if you're traveling interstate 80 or highway 50 overnight, you may run into some snow showers as that moisture continues

onward. eventually as we move towards the afternoon, you're going to see clearing inland and later tonight the high clouds pass on by. along the coast we might see a few showers trying to drop down but not dropping into the bay area. we'll see partly cloudy skies into tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon the weather looks quite nice for the cardinals versus the 49ers. you'll see temperatures close to the 70s. the weather looking pretty good, just partly cloudy skies, breezy at times. today will be the cooler of the two weekend afternoons. 73 in san jose, low 70s around santa cruz, mid 70 around the tri-valley. 74 degrees and relatively cool temperatures in the inland north valleys where it will take time for the fog to break up. near 70 in oakland. what we're going to start to see come tomorrow will be temperatures climbing up a

good morning. looking live at the golden gate bridge. we're expecting cool temperatures and maybe we can get our pumpkins without them rotting in the heat. like it or not, there are security cameras tracking your movement all across the bay area. now one group wants to know exactly where those cameras are and that group is getting the support of the san francisco police chief. >> reporter: intersect the age of technology and terrorism and

you get these. we wanted to find out in san francisco just how many are around? so we took our camera to try and capture other cameras, at least the ones we could see, and asked those who live and work here just how many times they thought they were captured on camera walking around this small block near city hall. >> probably about ten or so? >> a lot. 12, maybe 10. >> six maybe? >> one? >> i think one. >> i would hope there would be at least three. >> not even close. not 5, 10, 15. we counted 28. >> wow. >> i don't mind it. i think that's good. and it would help with the police if you know where all the security cameras are, they can check the footage. >> that's what community cam aims to do. it's a free crowd sourcing

have, anywhere from 24 hours to three days. >> san francisco police chief admits the video overturns the original police finding, leading investigators to conclude it was actually the truck driver who made an unsafe right-hand turn, hitting and killing amile. >> witness testimony at the time actually had the bicyclist being at fault. later on video was called to our attention. we missed the video, we're human, things happen. >> but he says the department has a stronger focus than ever on finding footage, enforcing a standing order that officers must look for security footage near the crime. >> we've been cases where we've been able to trace back the route of a perpetrator or follow a victim going camera to camera. >> reporter: he working on locating existing cameras around

i've never written a fan letter before, but you've done the impossible. you made gluten-free cereals in a whole bunch of yummy flavors. cinnamon chex and honey nut chex are two of our favorites. when my husband found the chocolate one, we were in cereal heaven. the only problem is, with so many great flavors you're making it very hard to choose. your fans, the mcgregor family. 'cause we love chex.
