the influence. >> also, occupy oakland two years later. how activists are commemorating the start of the movement and how it could impact your commute through the city throughout the day. >> it's a cold start to this friday. good morning. i'm meteorologist christina loren. i can tell you upper 30s right now in the north bay. but we're not even dealing with half as much fog as yesterday. good looking weekend. i'll take you through the forecast coming up. >> a lack of fog means the view across the bay bridge is clear but the traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza getting the opposite a. little unclear. we'll talk about that and let you know what's going on. we give you now a crystal clear shot with clouds off in the distance before the sun rises. that is san jose in the south bay. guess what, ladies and gentlemen, you made it, congratulations. it's friday, october 25th, this is "today in the bay."

good morning. thanks for being with us. it's 6:00. i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. good morning everybody. a peninsula couple sadly dead this morning, struck and killed by an out-of-control driver while walking their dog. bob redell is live in menlo park now where this crash happened. he is also telling us what police are now saying about the driver. bob, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning to you, jon. menlo park police have arrested a woman, a 54-year-old from redwood city, marjorie reitzell, she is facing two counts of felony dui and two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated for allegedly running over and killing a man and woman out walking their dog. you can see the damage here. in the park lot the two trees she took out. this happened just before 7:00 last night. officers say this man and woman both in their 50s were walking their dog on chilco when

reitzell's car hit and killed them. they had been in the bike lane as there are no sidewalks on this stretch. police are looking into how fast reitzell was driving but they believe the pair did not see her coming. >> the subject vehicle came up behind them eastbound, struck them both, launched them in the air and killing them. >> reporter: reitzell's car then allegedly jumped the center divide, hit another car that was traveling in the opposite direction before coming to a stop. the four people in that car were not hurt. police tell us that reitzell complained of pain when they were taking her out of her car, this is before she was taken to the hospital. they could tell she had been drinking. tests on her blood will take a few weeks to confirm. she will be booked into jail. there is no i.d. on the man and woman killed out walking the dog. the dog did survive with minor injuries and is under the care of the humane society. reporting live in menlo park,

bob redell, "today in the bay." >> a protest effort in santa rosa as anger over the killing of 13-year-old andy lopez continues to grow. people will gather outside santa rosa city hall at noon before marching to the sheriff's office. lopez was shot seven times by a sonoma county deputy tuesday. the deputy thought the replica a ak-47 lopez was carrying was real. last night protesters took to the streets, many of them ended up that the growing memorial at the location where lopez was killed. >> this was an upscale kid from fountain grove but because it was someone from the get to 0s and sonoma county it was allowable. we're not expendable. and we're going to make our voice be heard. >> police aren't the only ones investigating. the mexican consulate has hired a private agency. they were at the scene yesterday taking pictures. >> we have a follow-up right now

to a story we brought you as breaking news yesterday morning. fremont police now asking for the public's help following a road rage shooting incident along interstate 680. two drivers exited southbound 680 on mission boulevard at about 5:30 yesterday. one of those drivers shot at the other car simply because that driver was apparently going too slow. the victim is a 59-year-old man from pleasanton, he was hit three times. he is expected to survive. he had a dog in the car which was not hit. the shooter sped off following that. fremont police are asking anybody who has information who may have witnessed the incident to give them a call. >> today marks two years since the occupy movement arrived in oakland. a movement with a mixed history and controversial legacy that was at times peaceful and other times violent and destructive. two years later activists will come together in the heart of

oakland not only to draw attention to the movement but to protest a large scale police training event. christie smith is live outside of the marriott hotel on 11th and broadway where protesters will be on the picket lines in a few hours. >> reporter: good morning. that's why the city put out a community wide aler saying though they are not anticipating problemings they are ready to make arrest they see criminal behavior. and the same time they are suggesting that business owners might want to take common sense steps to protect their property. this anniversary happens as you said at the same time that law enforcement from across the country are here at the marriott hotel in oakland. this is on 11th and broadway. they are here for training exercises that are happening for three days. they plan to gather three blocks away where the occupy movement started. we did shoot new video of law

enforcement arriving for what's called urban shield. this is to help first responders prepare for disaster and terrorism. about 100 vendors will be here, too, marketing weapons. and that's what has some protesters upset. they say this underscores the militarization and contributes to the clashes in the streets we saw when occupy oakland protesters were evicted from the plaza two years ago. there was violent clashes, tear gas, and here's some of the suggestions on the list. from city that businesses might want to stay well lit, turn on surveillance cameras, cover doorgaps with steel plate you can, leave that cash drawer empty. these are good any time of day but especially in right of this event today. also ek land police saying they are ramping up their presence.

thn acquitted on animal abuse charges is trying to get his dog back. while he was in jail his chihuahua was adopt bid the same man who accused him of abusing it. morris is the man on the left. this is his chihuahua. the security guard called police claiming verant threw the dog against a wall. he was arrested and charged. the dog jumped into traffic and was scooped up before being hit by a car. he says what the security guard thought was abuse was verant scolding the dog. people made the wrong assumptions about her client. >> i think he was stereotyped. he had aubrey in a plastic bag but let's be honest. it's not a louis vuitton purse so if you see a dog in a plastic

here are today's top stories. a peninsula woman is facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter. menlo park police say 54-year-old marjorie reitzell appeared to be driving drunk when she hit a man and woman from behind, killing them. the couple was out walking their

dog. >> a new protest set for today at santa rosa city hall for the 13-year-old boy shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy. andy lopez. 13 years old was shot seven times by a deputy who thought his fake replica ak-47 that lopez was carrying was real. >> on the two-year anniversary of the occupy oakland movement the city is gearing up for a new round of protests starting at 9:00. occupy protesters are expected to gather outside the marriott to protest the urban shield disaster drill training. this afternoon demonstrators will march to oakland city hall. >> twitter executives are up early this morning getting that coffee brewing as they get ready to take the show on the road. >> i would imagine they are tweeting as well. scott mcgrew, convince them. >> this road show is the big

first step toward an ipo when twitter executives go from place to place, mostly new york city, trying to sell investors on the idea of twit ter way that salesmen used to sell encyclopedias. these big investors will be the initial buyers of twitter. that's the initial ipo that should happen november 6. then we should see those shares hit the market, the stock market, the next day. the big question is going to be price f. twitter goes door to door asking too high a price the buyers may bulk. then they would have to low ter ipo price and that's embarrassing. twitter is reportedly looking at a slightly lower price than planned, between 17 and $20 a share. that would give twitter a value of about 10 billion. i put together this comparison chart. you can get an idea where twitter lives in the tech universe. it's on the far right. call it half the size of tesla,

a tenth the size of facebook. for comparison there is big old apple as well. looking to the day's financial news. we'll get new information about consumer confidence to see how much damage if any the government shutdown did theo to the spirit of the american consumer. amazon and microsoft beat expectations with their financial report thursday, and so too did zynga in a weird way. their news was its revenue fell, active daily users fell 50%. it wasn't as bad as expected so it's weirdly good news. >> i guess take it. >> fuzzy math. >> thank you, scott. >> hey, we know how popular the daly show is here, a big move. it's popular in egypt. egypt's version is returning after a three-month hiatus. >> he is a trained heart surgeon

here is san jose. low clouds, yes, they are widespread but we don't have thñ widespread thick dense fog. that's the good news f. you are getting up with us this morning getting ready for work, to take the kids to school you don't have to worry about pockets of reduced visibility. we're going to continue to see that. then we meet back on monday the fog will be back and it will be thick. the only place we will want to keep your eye out for the fog and get read the slow down is in the north bay. that's napa. hey, you are used to that this time of year. we're getting into that time. low visibility in the north bay, temperatures are cold to start. later today, 74 degrees on the way to santa rosa. 71 in san rafael. and i've been monitoring the golden gate bridge, looking good for now. that's the good news. you cross the golden gate into san francisco, fog isn't that thick. 71 degrees in los gatos and 69

on the way to santa cruz. mild in the afternoon hours. talk about what's happening acro across the bay area. saturday night 8:30s. if you want to catch this show pier 39 san francisco, 8:30, pretty comfortable. 63 degrees. not too cold as we get into saturday night. let's talk about sunday afternoon, shall we. steelers taking on the raiders. should be a great day for a football game. temperatures climbing into the mid-60s. we'll see that kick off at 105 so comfortable for tailgating and over the course of the game. look at the difference. 68 as we head back into next week. temperatures are going to drop off. might be a time to pull out that winter coat. good morning to mike inouye. >> you pull out the winter coats check the mokts. sometimes you find money. that's what i do.

looking toward the bay area, things are looking good. it's a friday, we have a lighter flow, we'll start here in the south bay where we have the dill from 68 o. typical of a friday. we see that and things clear up. about 6:30 we should see more cars through the area so watch for 101, 87 and 85 is going to build. we see a little increase for 280. we're on a typical pattern. as we look to the bay we'll get you to some live shots. the peninsula here, 101 past palo alto, an easy drive. no problems northbound and in through san mateo. the view is clear, no fog like yesterday. fremont into the south bay, smooth drive. right around mid-60s, 65 let's say. northbound past the truck scales, then you pick up company

through hayward. you look toward the area we have no problems over from the east bay. the san mateo bridge, 92. both very clear and the view not a problem. throughout tri-valley we have that build. 84 through livermore. speeds in the upper 50s. we have more through pleasanton. to the bottom of the screen, that's why, both directions around for now. moother drive over toward the bay bridge. we had the earlier crash west 580 at lake shore sticking out, the car was on its side. no major injuries and the crew has cleared a. quick recovery toward the bay bridge. the maze, both picking up volume but not a problem. a live view, you see the cash lanes are not a problem. it's the fast track lanes backed up. the regular commuters, you might want to pay extra and get to e

new this morning from north carolina, police in the town of belmont say a man that took three people hostage surrendered. authorities say they negotiated the release of the hostages just a few hours ago before finally getting the man to come outside the store. it started early this morning when police got a robbery call, a man had walked into the store carrying an assault rifle. >> all night long rescue crews in mexico have been searching through the rubble of a candy factory. an explosion left one dead and 40 hurt. at least six of the injured are in serious condition and several workers are missing and may be trapped inside this building. the explosion happened on the second floor causing the entire floor to collapse. in all, 300 people work at the factory which makes gummy bears

and jelly beans and other sweets for a distributor in texas. >> a tennessee national guardsman waiting for charges after allegedly shooting two of his superiors. the unidentified shooter opened fire outside of an armory north of memphis yesterday before he was subdued and disarmed. two soldis were hit, one in the foot, the other got hit in the leg. both, good news, expected to survive. the shooter was reportedly a recruiter who had been relieved of duty. at this point no word on why he was taken off duty. >> classes restoomd at danvers high school where a teacher was allegedly killed by a student. a classmate of the 14-year-old suspect says the math teacher colleen ritzer asked the 14-year-old to stay after class. her body was found in the woods behind the school. the student suspect has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail. security and kounllers are

when she is released. bob redell is in menlo park talking to police. he will have a live update coming up. happening today lobbyists will sweep through capitol hill raising more concerns about new reports of a widespread government snooping, spying. this is as the u.s. deals with claims that the nsa spied on nearly three dozen world leaders. tracie potts joins us live in washington, d.c. p tracie, with all of this ahead of that rally it's going to be crazy for tomorrow. right? >> reporter: well, definitely a lot of focus on what the government has been doing that everybody may not be aware of. the group coming into washington, they are called stop watching us. look at the web video. they are launching this to try to get lawmakers to pay attention to what powers the nsa has, and they want to see those rolled back. they are here on the hill lobbying and will do a big rally

on the mall tomorrow. the other thing the obama administration is dealing with the guardian newspaper, that outed edward snowden t whistle-blower from nsa, they are now saying that the u.s. has been spying on 35 individual world leaders, germany and the europeans, mexico, all very upset about this. in fact, germany and france, they want an agreement before the end of the year sort of a no snooping pack. the white house response, they are not snooping on merkel's phone calls, at least not now when asked if they had done it in the past, that was not directly addressed. the white house says even though yes, we collect foreign intelligence and surveillance on other countries, they are not going to be addressing any specific reports. >> at the least a big pr mess.

>> 6:32. the board that manages is golden gate bridge will talk about a possible toll hike. we want to give you a look at the toll plaza. it's possible it will cost a dollar more to cross the bridge by next april. you would have to pay $7 to use the bridge. right now drivers without fast track pay $6. a bridge spokeswoman says they are dealing with a $142 million shortfall projected. if the board moves toward staff will set up a public hearing, then a zbloxt they are street vote on a tentative agreement. we're learning more about the details of the contract. if approved the bathrooms at b.a.r.t.'s 12 underground stations may reopen. they have been closed for security reasons since the september even terror attacks. the deal must be approved by

union members. >> high school verse to find a new way to raise money. traditional car washes are out of the question. according to the "mercury news," the environmental department banned lincoln high school students from holding car washes in the hoover middle school parking lot. they break water discharge logs. the department told the school it can have car washes on grass or grivle but they had to cancel all future car washes. >> those are important fundraisers and fun. christina loren, probably good to get the car washed. >> i could use a good washing with the car if you're volunteering mr. jon kelley. go ahead and wash that car. don't wait for the rain because we don't have significant chances inside. this is san francisco.

what you can expect. right now, though, let's check your drive. here is mike inouye. >> good morning. we'll look over to oakland where 880, getting company now, that's not unusual even on a friday we have this good volume of traffic along the nimitz. the speed sensors barely dipping into the yellow. finally that really nicely recovered after the earlier crash was causing a backup heading to lake shore that has cleared and there has been no slowing over the last 15 to 20 minutes. and the maze. the maze itself was smooth as of the approach, you're dipping your speeds down around 6. very light. and the rest of the east bay on the far right you see slowing toward the walnut creek interchange. the rest of your bay, nothing unexpected. we'll look at the south bay for the live shot. san jose picks up the value a

today the indictment against john and patsy ramsey will be released. we could learn why the couple was never charged in the death of their young daughter. the documents will be released in response to a lawsuit filed by a boulder daily camera reporter and the group reporters committee for freedom of the press. the indictment has been sealed since 1999. john ramsey objected but a judge ruled for the release. the couple was suspected in the 1996 killing of their daughter, 6-year-old beauty pageant queen jonbenet. no charges were filed. >> demolition continues on the connecticut elementary school caught in a deadly shooting rampage. workers removing sandy hook elementary piece by piece. this could take several weeks. newtown officials say a wrecking ball will not be used to make

sure every piece is accounted for to deter ñigñvscavenger hun. sandy hook was the scene of that heart wrenching scene on december 2012, a big time shooting massacre where a lone gunman killed 20 children along with six adults. >> officials in wake county, north carolina say an amusement ride called the vortex will undergo an inspection by the state after five people got hurt last night at state fair. a spokesman says an initial investigation found that somehow the ride started up again as the five were getting off. two of the people appeared to have been seriously hurt, one of those is the ride operator who was trying to help people get off the ride. >> coming up, a serial rapist hours fromming released. we'll tell you about the limit

spoke with the victims' family. bob, good morning. >> reporter: yes, relatives of this couple, they have been married 22, 23 years, regularly walked their dog out here on chilco and the brother-in-law and his family came by because they wanted to visit the scene where the suspected dui driver's car came to a rest after running over their relatives. they tell us the man and woman's names are valueveer sing and kamal. they were walking the dog. this is around 7:00 last night when a suspected drunk driver came from behind them, hit them, launched them in the air according to menlo park police, they believe that they were killed instantly. both of these people leave behind two sons and one daughter. two girls and one son.
