there was like a bunch of cop cars out here and i was heard. i heard gun shots and i ran inside. >> chaos and commotion in the east bay as police shoot and kill a dog they say was attacking a group of people in antioch. what we learned from police coming up. >> you indetails about the shooting death of a santa rosa teenager. what the deputy is saying about the moments before he opened fire. >> and emotional greeting at sfo. a scare in the sky forces this grandfather to wait a lot longer than planned to meet his brand new granddaughter. we'll explain. >> let's take a live look outside. a crisp start once again. it's halloween, thursday, october 31st, this is "today in

the bay." time for tricks and some treats. all morning long. >> more tricks than treats right now. >> you know, we'll work on the rest coming up. good morning. good to see you. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to. let's check the forecast. good morning to christina. >> good morning to you. happy halloween everybody. we're stirring up treats in the weather department. we've got you covered. temperatures are chilly to start but nothing like this time yesterday morning and as we head throughout the afternoon, a beautiful warm finish. look at our temperatures. almost uniform. that's an indication of a full blanket of clouds overhead. i've got your halloween trick-or-treat forecast. right now, though, let's say good morning and welcome back, mike inouye. >> thank you for having me back here. we're looking toward the san mateo bridge. the view looks pretty good. there's haze but not a big

concern. it's mostly our camera lens. that's okay. a smooth drive over to and along the peninsula drive. another crossing of the bay, the bay bridge a clear view. you can see the lights. they are moving at the limit but we'll track it as traffic will build over the next hour. so far no problems approaching coming out of the east bay. back to you. >> we do have a developing story, mike. from the east bay this morning, four people are recovering after a dog attack in antioch. a man was walking his dog last night when two other dogs attacked him. three neighbors who came out to help the man were also hurt. police got to the scene quickly and say they were forced to shoot one of the dogs. that dog later died. the other took off but came back a short time later. it is now under quarantine at the antioch animal shelter and will be scanned for a micro chip. the attack could have been worse. >> i'm just like glad it wasn't halloween because with all of

the kids coming out and all of the little like little ones and if that happened during halloween when they are all trick-or-treating and having a good time with their family it would have been horrific. >> as of now police are still trying to figure out where the two dogs came from. people nearby said they have never seen the animals in their neighborhood. you may remember antioch was the scene of another dog attack in august. two pit bulls attacked a 10-year-old boy while he played at a friend's house. his ear was partly severed and he suffered cuts to his face and head. he had several surgeries so far. those dogs had to be put down. >> a public memorial held today for the menlo park couple killed by a suspected drunk driver and a tragic situation. police say balbir and kamal singh were out walking their dog when they were hit and killed by marjorie reitzell. today's service is at chapel of the chimes in hayward.

reitzell again expected in court this afternoon. her arraignment was postponed for the third straight day yesterday. she's been complaining of chest pains that happened monday, then has not been medically cleared by the jail. prosecutors say her blood alcohol at the time of the crash was two times the legal limit. >> details around the death of 13-year-old andy lopez. we're learning the deputy who fired the shots says he can't remember if he identified himself as law enforcement before opening fire. both dispatch records and reports say only about ten seconds passed between the time the deputy confronted lopez and the shooting. hundreds took to the streets of santa rosa last night, chanting "andy." they want justice for the teen's death. last week a deputy mistook the boy's replica gun for an ak-47. shooting lopez seven times. those marching believe the

shooting was unnecessary. the fbi is investigating the shooting. >> a man who walked away from a controversial care facility in castro valley is still missing this morning. his name is edmund bascom. he is 65 years old. one day after the valley springs manor was shut down bascom wandered away. we have video of family members picking up belongings of former residents of the facility last night. a total of 14 residents were removed from that facility after investigators say they were abandoned by most of the staff. only a janitor and a cook were left behind. that janitor telling us he did his best to care for the seniors but only worked there for two weeks and was not a care giver. >> residents of rock ridge neighborhood fighting crime. they used the crowd tilt to raise $8200 to hire a security group for a trial period.

the guards will patrol but can only call officer they spot something. neighbors were fed up after several crimes including an armed robbery in september. >> the man shot by police in san francisco's marina district set to be in court today. rommel norva has been charged with attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges. witnesses say he pistol whipped and shot a man on sunday afternoon. the victim apparently got away. police opened fire after they say norva pointed a gun at them. >> more than 150 people are relieved to be back in the bay area after a scare in the sky caused an unexpect today with 24 hour journey. the landing went smoothly but the 167 passengers on board were

forced to wait 13 hours for another plane to come to take them the rest of the way to san francisco. the family members of those on board waited anxiously at sfo including a grand father who couldn't wait to meet his new granddaughter just adopted from china. >> a long day, 24 hours with a little girl only a year old. >> she has done amazing. my goodness, she is a trooper. yes. yes, she is. >> she is a trooper. the family confirms it. the passengers we spoke to said everyone in cold bay which has a population of 100 they were extremely welcoming. >> shared a lot of love. new this morning along the coast of california crab fishermen getting ready for what may be their favorite time of the year. the crab season opening saturday and the claws are out. the california department of fish and wildlife say populations of these crustaceans

rosa. comfortable today and temperatures are going to be comfortable even when the sun sets so bayside this is what we expect. around 64 degrees. just after sunset. between 6:15 and 8:15 temperatures will drop to about 60. not too bad. 10:15 for all of you adult partiers. if you are out and about have a coat. it's going to be cold as we finish off the night. these are your bayside numbers. what to expect inland and at the coast. i've got your seven-day forecast. things you need to be aware of before we hit that all important weekend. it's halloween but it's also friday eve, mike inouye. >> two treats. looking toward the orangish red, the golden gate bridge it's moving smoothly. that's a treat right now. you have to pay the highest toll in the area. not so much of a treat. a huge flow of traffic there. down out of the north bay a crash has cleared out of the

roadway around as you get toward the marin border a little slowing, an earlier crash. both have cleared from the freeway. the rest of the bay at the limit like you saw, south of 580 and san quentin area. even though we have road crews this stretch has seen slowing. it's clearing 101 past 85. a lot of lights there i'm told so that may be an issue. the slowing the last few minutes. back to you. >> thanks, mike. this morning it's unclear if the woman cited for wearing google glass will fight that. they pulled her over for speeding. that's when the officer noticed she was wearing google glass and then he gave her a ticket for that as well. california law prohibits video screens from being turned on and actually facing the driver. there are exceptions for gps systems. she claims it wasn't on but the

making history. the bay area carmaker has finished installing super charging stations between san diego and vancouver. tesla owners can charge their cars for free and drive up and down the west coast without paying a dime. tesla is demonstrating the drive, two cars left san diego. tesla employees and owners will hold a media event talk about the future of the cars. >> mixed news for facebook. earnings showing a huge increase in revenue but the company says activity on the site is going down. with that and the rest of the news before the bell let's turn things over to seema mody. good morning. >> jon, good morning. futures lower after stocks pulled back on the fed decision yesterday to hold steady on monetary policy. the fed saying that the economy is still too weak for it to cut back on its stimulus program. we get unemployment filings and

numbers courtesy of a blanket of low clouds. it's the low clouds that are going to keep our temperatures milder, more comfortable than the frigid start. you can see the clouds in this live picture, temperatures will be warmer this afternoon by a few degrees, close toite out in the east bay, 70 degrees on the way to livermore. 72 in san rafael. and oh, yeah, i've got your trick-or-treat forecast. we're looking really good for a comfortable night inland. as you know when the sun starts to set temperatures drop like a rock. 65 degrees. 8:15, 62 degrees, down to 58 at 10:15. overall talking about a comfortable halloween here where most of the nas on the east coast will deal with showers. we head throughout the day today, we're glad to be here in the bay area with great

conditions. as we head through tomorrow, temperatures are going to surge. we drop off a touch but nice and comfortable for this time of year. and then through the midsection of next week, area of hoop starts to build. then we're headed to our next warm-up. >> the north bay teen who made headlines by stealing guy fieri's yellow lamborghini is headed to prison. max wade was found guilty after long hiss of charges including attempted murder. >> his mother broke down yelling "i love you" before leaving the courtroom. back in 2011 wade stole fieri's lamborghini. wade's attorneys hope that the court will consider his age during sentencing. wade faces 30 years to life in prison when she sentenced in

december. >> all street appear in court facing felony weapon charges, mipt dui and drug charges. smith free on bail after turning himself in to authorities. surrendering by the end of the month, part of an agreement smith made with the santa clara d.a. after he was charged with possessing illegal assault weapons. the charges come from a party smith through at his house in the san jose foothills last year. before turning himself in smith reportedly melt in santa clara. he is going to -- he is in a facility since his ace rest. >> the red sox world series victory. the special tribute to the victims they paid to the boston marathon bombing. >> unifying event to say the least. and this one's for the record books at oracle arena. let you know how the teams made it happen.

last night. that place was jammed and it was jamming. the warriors stepped on the court, did not disappoint. the team making history beating up on the no name lakers. kobe on the bench. the lakers got crushed by 31, the final score, 125-94. that is the largest opening night victory in franchise history for the warriors thanks in part to the man by the name of klay thompson. he had 38 points. next up for the warriors, they have the clippers down in l.a. tonight. tip-off at 7:30. >> new world champs, red sox beat the cardinals 6-1, claiming their third world series in the past ten seasons. >> i like when they put the goggles on so the champagne doesn't burn their eyes. >> the victory was the team's first world series win in front of the hometown crowd in 95 years. that's a long wait. >> three world titles in nine

years. >> the fireworks lighting up the sky over fenway park. many of the fans took to the party. or the party to the streets i should say. in a tribute to the victims of the boston marathon bombings, red sox fans gathered at the marathon finish line, the place the bombs exploded that killed three and injured more than 200. some chanting boston strong, others kissing the ground. a lot of solidarity. as of now there are no major reports of problems. police say nine supreme been arrest forward unruly behavior. >> always a couple of crazies but what a great year, great unifying season for the team. >> boston strong, say it all the time. >> 4:56. congratulations red sox. >> you guys are talking about oracle arena. reason to celebrate at least for the warriors. 880, a smooth flow.
