>> we sure love our fridays. >> vapor lock focus on it. good morning. always happy to have you along. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we like working with each other but we love our weekends, don't we. >> we do because it's sleeping in time. yeah, when it's cold in the morning it's hard to wake up. that's why good news, this morning not as frigid. we have plenty of low clouds and high and mid level clouds across the bay area which means we're going to see an absolutely beautiful sunrise. and temperatures are running about 5 to 10 degrees milder than 24 hours ago so we're in the 50s. headed to a cooler afternoon and tracking the rainy pattern four out of the seven days on the seven-day forecast including that rain chance. we'll talk about that coming up. good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. we'll look here, first we'll start with a live look at 880 through oakland. we do have a road crew nearby south of the coliseum blocking a

couple lanes. we have more road work on the tri-valley but the bigger issue. the commute direction you see those traffic flows are green. we head eastbound, we're looking here toward a crash as well and that may have one lane blocked. no major injuries from what i understand. at least one lane blocked and crews on scene. it shouldn't be a major problem. right now there is a car in the middle of the freeway. >> a campus police at deanza college investigating a sexual assault. this happened on the campus at the media and learning center not far from the flint center parking garage. a student says she was sexually assaulted in a stall of a women's restroom. it happened in the middle of the day on monday. the woman says she knows the man who attacked her and officials at this point they have not named that suspect. we can tell you the investigation is ongoing.

>> the sunnyvale man accused of kidnapping his son and driving to mexico is expected in court this morning. he was found last night in mexico with his son henry. a statewide amber alert was issued after police say guller got into a fight with his son's mother and abducted the newborn. >> i'm really happy and thankful for the police and the people that helped me to find my baby. i was afraid i wouldn't be able to find him again or sew see him again. i was really scared. >> the baby is safe and in the custody of arizona child protective service. >> a assembly man from southern california will be in san francisco investigating b.a.r.t. safety. roger hernandez, a democrat, is holding a hearing in the state building auditorium. this is scheduled for 10:00 this morning. it's been almost three weeks since maintenance workers were

hit. representatives have raised questions about safety during the recent labor negotiations. >> 4:34. the woman accused of drunk driving and killing a couple is expected to enter a plea. marjorie reitzell is charged. prosecutors say her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when she hit and killed balbir and kamal singh as they walked their dog. police are trying to track down a potential witness, there are report as man driving a white ford explorer may have seen the crash and they'd like to talk to him. >> today nothing short of a monumental one for a social media force out of san francisco. in a few hours twitter stepping up to ring in the bell on the new york stock exchange officially becoming a publicly traded company. shares will be sold under twtr and open at $26 per share. that is above the expected range twof 3-25.

the company will sell about 70 million shares to the public and is expected to raise over $1.8 billion in this ipo. that would be $18 billion making it the second largest internet ipo after facebook. the irony of this of course is twitter has yet to make a profit. the company has reported a loss of $134 million this year alone. >> 4:35. not everybody happy about the debut of twitter. when the opening bell rings protesters will start picketing outside the san francisco headquarters. they say san francisco's corporate tax breaks designed to draw tech companies to the area have led to a massive increase in housing costs in the city and that has created an eviction crisis. coming up in 10 minutes the twitter co-founder jack dorsey may have another ipo in the works, his other company. it's in a live report.

>> a heads up if you plan on being in the palo alto area. the stanford cardinal hosting oregon tonight, a high profile battle of two of the top teams in the country, right in the middle of the evening commute. be ready for this one. more than 50,000 fans expected to show up at stanford stadium to watch this game. if you are not going to go to the game, we recommend you avoid this area. kickoff set for 6:00 but palo alto police telling us this one could get crowded as early as 2:30 this afternoon. adding to the potential traffic palo alto high school near the stadium gets out of class at about 3:00. in addition to being a big showdown it's also a night to recognize a couple of stanford stars, john elway, retiring his number 7, elway, he did it back in the day. still fun watching him.

he made number 7 proud. two others have their jerseys retired. the other 1, ernie nevers and 16, also a quarterback, jim plunket. >> stanford's athletic department warning to watch out for counterfeit tickets. the only way to guarantee a ticket is valid is buy it at stanford's ticket office which is sold out, or through authorizize read taylors. tickets tonight, some of the most expensive. the average pry, $241 which is what fans normally pay for the championship. we checked stub hub, the highest price we found, $650. >> all kinds of implication in this game. two top five games, the conference championship on the line, it's going to be fun. >> well worth it. >> i am say it is.

i'll be watching it on tv. >> lots of folks going to be there. should they bring the sweat snirt >> i think it's going to be nice weefrmt going to take a close look in my next report. for today temperatures are going to be mild across the bay area. the weather story of the day, it is mild out there this morning. mostly 50s across the board. area of low pressure to our north. and we still have the futurecast at 9:00 a.m. you can see here mostly cloudy at that point. it's going to take a while for clouds to clear out. we're going to see a nice sunny finish to the day. 1:00 p.m. still high cirrus clouds over the south bay, morgan hill in particular. as a cold front comes through. this is going to drop our temperatures today and in that area of low pressure slides to the south getting into the end of the weekend into next week. we're talking about some pretty significant chances for rain starting sunday. 74 in livermore, 65 in san francisco and 70 degrees in

oakland. so if you are planning on going to that game i've got 4 forecast plus we'll show you the forecast when the showers move into your neighborhood. >> good morning. i have turned the camera southbound. we're going through the zone that was a construction zone and it looks like the last of the trucks have cleared. so all lanes now open in the southbound direction. we see the commute direction a little slow north to the coliseum. there is another zone with road crews and they may cause a distraction. not a big problem. eastbound 580 it does sound like all lanes are clear. going over toward the north livermore exit but we see that starting to shift as far as the speeds so we'll track the tri-valley. so far no major issues westbound

up. start your thursday morning. secretary of state john kerry staying in the middle east for an extra day. he plans to return to israel tomorrow for another meeting with prime minister benjamin netanyahu. kerry landed in jordan. it was supposed to be his final stop on this trip. about three months ago he brokered peace talks but little progress has been made since then. >> today the senate voting on a bill making it illegal for employers to discriminate against members of the lgbt community. the senate voting 61-30 to start the debate on the act. this marks the first time in more than 15 years the senate has agreed to discuss a bill like this. to pass the bill needs 51 votes, if that happens it will move to the house where we can tell you it is not expected to pass. >> we're going to find out order if companies have to make all workplace injury and illness

reports public. today the labor department will announce changes to the way the reports are filed. but a few details have been leaked like the department is supposedly going to make companies file electronically. that only applies to companies with more than 250 employees. the project for an eagle scout is getting a lot of attention. kay sleb a junior. his project will be demonstrated at the international airport. he created and built traps. now they use his invention to catch and relocate red-tailed hawks who are attracted to the airport. >> how cool is that. also on the menu, elementary school students in gilroy getting an honor and opportunity to be among the first in santa clara county to try out new salad bars.

the latest pilot program for team california for healthy kids. those look a lot healthier than the things i remember back in grade school. the campaign aimed at promoting healthy eating and physical activity. this is a trickle down of the first lady's let's move initiative to help end childhood obesity. >> moving on, country music big stars gathered for the annual country music awards. >> fun to watch. some of the top honors to veterans. >> and the cma award for entertainer of the year goes to george strait. >> he is a classic if you've seen him. he beat out taylor swift, tim mcgraw. he last won in 1990. brad paisley and kerry underwood return to host for the sixth consecutive year. >> that's a beautiful thing. good night.

twitter's co-founder jack dorsey may not be done with all things going public business. his other company squares in early talks about a possible ipo next year. squares allow reese tailers and merchants to accept credit and debit payments through a smart phone or tablet. >> it's a case of the it sounds too good to be true probably is. walmart says a glitch allowed shoppers to get great bargains on its website. treadmills going for $39 and pc monitors $9. it fixed the issue and is canceling any orders customers gt after the deep discount. >> crash now confirmed. >> you are witnessing history in the making. the olympic torch floating into the final frontier carried by a three-man crew including one american.

you see them hooking up with the space station. they will take the torch on a space walk on saturday before coming back to earth on monday. for safety reasons the flame will not be lit on board that spacecraft. that makes sense. for the record this is the second time in history the torch has gone up in space. the torch flew back there in 1996 for the summer olympics held here in the united states in atlanta. you can watch the winter games in sochi here on nbc bay area. >> they are coming. a flash of light over southern california has people talking. >> a lot of people wondering. some describe it as a fireball across the sky. judge for yourself. the video from our affiliate in l.a., yeah, looks legitimate to me. you see a flash going across the screen. the national weather service says it's likely a meteor linked to the south torrid meteor shower which is active right now
