weather kicks in and when we have a better chance for showers coming up in my next report. >> good morning. we're looking to the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights turned on and we have this filling up to the end of the toll plaza. goes down into the upper fechts at the worst through richmond. not a big deal at all. the caldecott tunnel moves slowly. 880 and 580. we have this deadly crash. the word is there was a pedestrian for some reason on 580 walking around. that person was hit and killed early this morning. we have crews on seen. a tow truck has arrived but i have no idea whether that -- that investigation has to complete. so only two open now slowing from keller but meeting around as well kicking over to 880.

6:13 am
the first trades of twitter, another interesting day in business and tech. we could not see the first trades right at the opening bell. it does take a bit of time. barracuda network out of campbell made its debut yesterday. here are some executives at the opening bell. their shares didn't start trading for about 20 minutes. the first trade came at 6:53 our time. the reason for that it takes some time for everybody to agree on a price. you heard $26 a share but remember, that's the price that insiders paid. the money that twitter got. that is the ipo, that is over. now we want to know the price we would pay on the open market. and frankly, that is an ugly process. >> they refer to that as book building. they build a book of people who want to sell and buy and at what price. they try to find that balance. of course people who are giving them the indications can be
6:14 am
cagey about what they say and then they can change their minds. i'll buy if he's buying and so it gets complicated in a hurry. that's why they sometimes have a little bit of trouble getting it going at first. >> you might get rich from twitter but that's for the market to decide. insiders they have already gotten rich. that money changed mands last night. one more step for san francisco toward becoming a wealthy city. let's continue our coverage in san francisco. bob redell is live outside twitter. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you scott. not everyone here in the city is happy about this ipo, we're told that in the next 20, 15 minutes or so outside headquarters on market street to expect protests, sfpd is patrolling the streets. they asked us to move our live truck off of the sidewalk outside of san francisco headquarters and basically there is an alliance of groups, they go under san francisco rising, and they are protesting a couple
6:15 am
things. one a tax break twitter received from the city of san francisco that they argue cost the city tens of millions by luring twitter and other start-ups and they also argue the fact that they brought in these start-ups that the city doing this has led to the rise in rents and evictions so the group san francisco rising they are unhappy, they said online they will be protesting outside twitter headquarters at 6:30 and they are using twitter to their advantage, they established a hash tag, #thrown out by twitter. that ipo expected in 15 to 20 minutes an what is also noteworthy to mention, let's say they are at 26 a share, that's $18 billion valuation for a company that has yet to turn a profit. scott. >> keep in mind not every stock does pop on the open. facebook traded lower by the end of its first day. and ever heard of wix?
6:16 am
that company ipoed tuesday night. and by the first, the end of the first day yesterday, that stock had not moved at all. we got the weekly first time jobless claims, relatively lousy on top of that we do expect not very good news out of october's report tomorrow. i bring this up because the dow hit a new high yesterday, i saw someone on the new york times talking about a melt-up, the opposite of a melt down. the markets are higher, remember they are higher now than before the 2009 crash. our economy is nowhere near where it was. people call that a bubble. i like a melt-up. >> that's a good term. >> interesting. >> we must be hungry. it's breakfast time for folks. >> christine will tell us if it's good for a picnic with the sunshine gets out full force. >> it is going to be nice out there.
6:17 am
the 2009 also known as the dot bomb. it's going to be nice out there. it's nice to see the economy recovering especially in the bay area. a lot happening, exciting time to be here. your forecast for today, i do want to show you beautiful sunsets expected and a sun rise as well. our sun set time is dropping off so that sun goes down early. 5:05 is the sunset. the sun will rise at about 6:40. mostly cloudy conditions for now. the sun is starting to make an appearance over san bruno. we face east. to show you the high and mid level clouds that returned to the area. spectacular out to work over the course of the next 15, 20 minutes. getting the oranges and the reds, going to be nice. i wanted to show you it's mostly cloudy all the way from santa rosa south to gilroy. you're at 51 in livermore to start the day and in the 50s in san francisco as well. we have a major pattern change headed our way but really
6:18 am
doesn't set in until sunday. that's what we are expecting, the storm window will open up. most of the activity on sunday up in the north bay. and then we have a better chance for showers through the second half of monday to tuesday, with some residual activity on wednesday. so enjoy the sunshine today while it lasts. a nice sunny finish to the day, most between about 12:00 and 2:00. 72 in santa teresa and 77 degrees on the way to gilroy. talking about a great time to be in the bay area, what a world class team we have in stanford. also you know t 49ers are back at it sunday. for today's tailgating warm conditions, 66 degrees at about 3:00 p.m. in palo alto by 6:00 p.m. though, once that sun drops off the temperatures drop like a rock. we have a pretty dry air mass. keep that in mind. we'll drop into the 50s from the mid-60s between 3:00 and 6:00. let's go stanford. 72 by friday, saturday to sunday, temperatures are going to jump around.
6:19 am
we'll be at a nice 76 inland on sunday. however, as we head throughout second half of the day, we get our first showers in the north bay. a better chance on monday into tuesday and then we should be clearing out late wednesday. dust off the umbrella or stick it in your trunk. >> muddy umbrella. light rain will do that. no rain today. a smooth flow of traffic along the peninsula and the south bay. the slow spots you saw, you see the alta mont pass and we have interchange. it's congested through livermore. we're starting the build for 680 into sunol. below 60 miles per hour but that is continuing the trend with all of these folks heading into the area. a bigger issue we head to the castro valley y, and a lot of folks aroadway west 580 because of that deadly crash north there. they are going to head to 238
6:20 am
onto 880. a fender-bender has cleared but that's more distraction south past the scene or north as an alternate. 238 or even 98 to get away from this backup. the last good cute off before this crash. west 580 at mcarthur. two lanes blocked. there was a pedestrian on the roadway, and the investigation continues. some out to 13 as well. we're watching for heavier traffic and heading up to the bay bridge. we see the backup as the metering lights were turned on. not so bad here but the lanes are backing up past west grand tof now. moving into the south bay, still close to 60 miles per hour. that's great by mission and the south bay. northbound routes looking good, slowing around capital
6:21 am
expressway.ágx 680. 87 starts with a build. with an earlier crash, sounds like it's clear from the connector and we have the sharks playing so watch for crowds downtown san jose later on this evening. >> a busy one. 6:21. pass on the field and patience on the road. the big football game that could have you going on the offensive during the evening commute. farmers presents: fifteen seconds of smart.

without question one of the most anticipated games in college football taking place in palo alto tonight. 6 stanford hosting 2 oregon and along with all of that hype, we can promise you it's going to be a lot of traffic. christie smith is live near stanford stadium with more what fans can expect. some fans already got the barbecue going? >> reporter: yeah, they do. i still smell that meat and it smells good. some of these oregon fans are serious. we saw this gentleman behind me, he ran away when he saw the cameras, there he is, he got up real early this morning and straightened out his area including his fan flag. he got here from l.a. yesterday. yes. tailgaters are up, cooking, putting on stanford and oregon gear. and in it for the long haul. 50,000 fans expected here just
6:25 am
in time for the rush hour. and that means you'll have a lot of company if you around stanford this evening. the signs are lit up down university, reminding drivers that the big game is tonight. getting close to the stadium isn't even easy at this hour so i can't imagine what it's going to be later. barricades are up. tickets are mostly gone but among the most expensive, pack twelve championship tickets about $240 on average and that's what these went for. stanford reminding fans to watch out for counterfeit tickets at the last minute. no worry for one fan i spoke with this morning who showed up overnight about 3:00 in the morning with his super deluxe meat smoker. he got that set up. says he got here with his buddies to avoid that afternoon crowd and right away started cooking. >> how did you?ky get smoker du? >> just luck of the draw, i guess. >> you excited for the game?
6:26 am
>> very excited. this is a huge match-up for us, always a great game. a wonderful place to tail gate and it's a great place to hang out with fans. >> what's on the menu in. >> brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken wings. >> i'll be back. >> yes. you are more than welcome to come through. >> reporter: so keep in mind that some of the major streets around here will be very busy this afternoon. el camino campus driving, sand hill road, sarah street, stanford avenue to name a few. the gates open at 4:00. kickoff is at 6:00 this evening. again, traffic is going to be something to deal with. mike, can we say enough about how bad traffic might be this afternoon? >> no, we can't say enough about that. we're going to say it again in fact. we'll show folks on the map this is 101. this is university avenue off ramp. this off ramp probably okay because look at the map. in relation to where stanford
6:27 am
is, relatively good distance away. but university safe going to be one of the major roadways through the say and into where christie is talking about, the face-off between oregon and stanford. adjust your local commute and avoid university and el camino through that area. >> thanks so much. still ahead, busted bolts still broken on the bay bridge. now repair efforts are delayed. we'll tell you what is causing the construction snag just ahead. when our little girl was born,

here we go this morning san francisco bay's twitter going public. i want to give you a live look at the social media site's headquarters. plenty of employees gathering there early at several key members of the twitter team arrives at the new york stock exchange. that's on wall street. they are doing the honors ringing the opening bell. >> today's opening bell a major milestone for the website which was incorporated back in april
6:30 am
of 2007. today, thursday, november 7 and twitter's first day. there we go. there's the ring. look at the hash tag there. ring! they did it. first day as a publicly traded company. this is "today in the bay." >> thanks as always for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we have a team in place covering the twitter ipo. scott will join us with his insight in a moment. >> we get the party started with bob redell live outside of twitter headquarters. you feel the magic? is the energy starting to build? >> reporter: well, yes. good morning to you there, jon. of course the ipo is supposed to take place within the next minute or so. ipo at $26 a share giving this company a valuation of $18 billion which would be remarkable considering that this company has not yet profitable. you're hearing some noise behind
6:31 am
me. these are a handful of protesters here. there was an alliance of groups called san francisco rising, they are not happy with twitter's head quarter presence here. they have a couple of issues. one is the tax breaks that the city of san francisco has given this company. and they have also believe that by luring twitter and other start-ups this led to rising rents and evictions. steve is one of the protesters. what is your message to twit center >> i'm with the united public workers for action. we are fed up with tax subsidies for billionaires. they changed the tax code to allow twitter owners and others to make billions of profit. at the same time homeless have to dine in the street, people can't get health care, they are attacking public workers blaming them for the crisis. krebing costs, shifting the health care costs. look, have a priority for the work people in san francisco not for the billionaires on twitter.
6:32 am
why should we be giving tax subsidies and build like on the water front when working people can't afford to live in san francisco. >> thank you. as you heard steve, one of probably about 20 protesters out here this morning, they were out here in case the crowd got bigger or unmanageable. you see it's not the case. and you know, i noticed something that if you look beyond in front of the entrance to the headquarters they have people looks like even children laying down dressed in white. i'm not sure what they represent but they are blocking the entrance representing corpses now what i'm realizing. scott mcgrew, i want to pull you into the conversation. i have talking about the protest what is are you seeing as far as the stock exchange? >> good morning. important questions about the future of san francisco. the big question in business is where does twitter stock go when it does start h7trading?
6:33 am
the initial price was $26 a share. that is when twitter sold itself to private investors. when it issued shares. that's the initial public offering. that's over. the market makers have to hammer out our first trade now that the stock market is open. at what price we don't know. it's not going to be 26. one hiccup here is we may be seeing some really big investors that have bought into twitter. they bought about 50% of the entire twitter offering. i think they are going to hold on to that stock so that will not be available this morning on the new york stock exchange. so we're going to have maybe 40% that may be available that will get split f. you got this small portion you may see a much higher price. again as we've been talking about this morning, this idea that it takes a while for the market makers to come together to agree on a price, the second i get a price i'll let you know. >> i kind of can't wait to see. interesting to watch.
6:34 am
we'll check with you. >> the company has not made money in cracking that nut on how to start selling that giving advertising dollars. 6:34. christina loren is here to talk about her initial public offering of what's happening? >> what are your numbers? >> looking great today. good morning to you. look at this beautiful sky over san jose. looking to the east. got to wait until 6:40 for our sunrise and temperatures today are going to be cooler. i want to show you our weathermaker. area of low pressure now impacting the pacific northwest. we're going to see some clouds as we head throughout the day today. the clouds will move into the bay area and we're going to stick around. all the way through about 9:00 a.m. we stop the clock getting into 1:00 p.m. mostly clear conditions, the fog returns in san francisco so we'll see a significant temperature drop-off between yesterday and today especially in the city by the bay. highs like this. 74 inland. bay side 72.

down from mid-70s to the mid-60s. i'll show you when your best chance for rain comes in the picture. first we'll check your drive. >> we're looking to the east shore freeway with all of these headlights. westbound 80 through berkeley and the bay bridge and the berkeley curve. the berkeley curve you start slowing, which is filled in and the same trend on the speed sensors. yellow and orange all the way to the middle and bottom. a smooth flow flew the caldecott tunnel. we've heard all lanes are open, the accident scene has cleared so the crash now no more blocking lanes, that is westbound 580 recovers from keller owy ver past the warren free way. 880 an alternate because they heard about the early morning closure but that is clear and the castro valley y moves smoothly. past 238 we have a crash in lanes causing things to bog down. now more slowing fast san mateo

6:48 am
then on sunday a nudge in your temperatures. showers on the way monday through wednesday. we could see activity. we'll be watching that like a hawk. >> maybe like a wet hawk. overall traffic moves smoothly. the peninsula, most of the red and orange to the south bay. that's where we'll focus. north 85, 87, speeds down into the 50 area. we have north 101 bagging down, then slowing around where we had an earlier crash. this red zone, it's the distribution for the south bay. no big surprises. 580 and 84 to be expected. 680 over 15 minutes starting to show speeds in the 50s. there is the build down from dublin into pleasanton. moving nicely, a little extra slowing as folks were unsure but the earlier sigalert cleared.
