it is just 4:31 on the nose. good morning. happy to see you. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to this morning. first the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> hey, good morning to you. still dealing with rain mostly in the east bay. i want to show you where the heaviest downpours are, livermore, a lot of this activity is east of dublin but we're going to see more throughout the morning. only up in the east bay. yeah, pretty significant rainfall totals. wait till i show you how much rain over the past 24 hours. might just blow your mind. right now, though, he's always blowing our mind, good looks. >> oh, thank you. thank you. wow. starting the morning with a great start. we'll see how it goes from here. the bay bridge, a nice easy flow of traffic. there is the wed roadway and the highway 4, watch that as well having had rain a few minutes

ago. that will be slick as the commute starts there. here one of the toll lanes isn't open for cash payers. fremont, the glowing lights. i had to use my wipers because the mist was pretty thick in this area. at times coming through san jose watch over the santa cruz mountains as well, thick in that area. >> breaking news we're following out of the south bay reports after robbery bring a s.w.a.t. team response to a home in santa clara. multiple agencies on the scene now as well as "today in the bay's" chase cain. he was first on the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: there was a rather large police presence here so we were thinking that this was something much more substantial, but what police are telling us is there was a report of a home burglary, officers showed up out here and apparently in minutes they were able to track down the two people who may be responsible for that. police telling us that they do have two people in custody at

this hour. you see behind me there are a few officers on the scene but all signs appear to be that they are starting to wind things down. some of the officers leaving. at one point the s.w.a.t. team was called out but an officer from santa clara p.d. say they are going through training so it was good practice to come out here in case they needed them. we're waiting for more information about what happened. we're told there were no shots fired, even though there was a report that possibly some guns or stolen from the home which was a few blocks down the street here behind me, again police saying they do have two people in custody so appears that everything is winding down in this neighborhood. of course we'll keep you updated here on "today in the bay." we are live in santa clara. back to you guys. >> no one injured that you know of. >> reporter: no injuries that we know of. there was an ambulance called out but we're waiting to hear if

they needed it or it was standard procedure. >> thanks so much. >> unusual story here. learning more about the 85-year-old palo alto grandfather detained over north korea while visiting the country. the korean war veteran was questioned about his involvement in the war beforing removed from his flight back to the bay area. eunice is in beijing with details. >> reporter: merrill neuman is known to travel to parts of the globe. last month the korean war veteran visited north korea and hasn't been heard from since. he was with a friend. his son cities two were there legally as tourists but at the end of the stay his father was questioned by north korean officials about his military service during the korean war. five minutes before departing back to palo alto on october 26, his family says neuman was taken off the plane. north korean authorities haven't

confirmed they are holding him but if true, he would be the second american held after missionary ken bay. the u.s. state department has since tightened its travel warning to north korea saying the protection of its citizens is a top priority. for neuman's family they are worried about his heart condition and want him home. >> thank you very much. we do have more details. neuman's traveling companion releasing this statement. there has to be a terrible misunderstanding. i hope that the north koreans will see this as a humanitarian matter and allow him to return to his family as soon as possible. >> 4:35. happening today the b.a.r.t. board set to vote on a contract glitch that could derail the new labor deal. b.a.r.t. and its unions are in a disagreement over a provision of the new contract regarding paid family leave. it would require b.a.r.t. to pay

for employees to take weeks of time paid off to care for a sick family member or child. b.a.r.t. claims the negotiator signed the wrong tentative deal and that provision should not have been there. b.a.r.t. says it could cost up to $44 million over four years. the union s said they expect th board to meet their responsibility to the workers and the riders and approve this contract. >> good news, trains now back on the tracks this morning after caltrain halted services both direction for several hours because of a downed power line near the hayward park station in the san mateo area. tracks, they were closed for nearly five hours last night. the downed line also knocking out power to several homes and businesses and also to traffic lights. this morning caltrain has resumed its normal schedule. >> police are asking people to be on alert after armed robbers hit eight homes and businesses

in four hours. police are looking for a group of two or three men armed with a revolver. they are suspected in eight robberies between 5:30 and 9:00 last night. four people were robbed in homes across the city. four additional robberies happened including a costco, 7-11 and pep boys auto center a. woman was pistol whipped. no arrests have been made. >> police looking for what officers are calling an armed and extremely dangerous homicide suspect. detectives say the 23-year-old, michael green, shot two women outside a nightclub over the weekend. he is described as 5'11" and 230 pounds with a beard and long hair. we can tell you one of the victims, a 22-year-old woman, she died at the scene. the other is now in critical condition. police say green may be

traveling in a 2001 mercedes with a california license plate 4 uip 7 o 4. >> a rally to demand answers is taking place in san jose state after three were charged with a hate crime. the three white freshmen students are accused of tormenting a black roommate. the university spokesperson says a month-long investigation found the students drew racial slurs and hung a confederate flag. prosecutors say the roommates forced bicycle lock around his neck. they were shocked this could happen on such a diverse campus. >> we are highly offended on our campus. it's so close to home and we weren't aware of it at all, no organization on the campus let us know that these issues were

here. >> the university says the alleged incidents are under investigation. no decision has been made on whether the students will be sanctioned. if convicted the students could spend a year in jail. >> a follow-up, it's now up to the vallejo school district to come wake-up a brand new mascot for the city's main high school. last night the school board voting to drop the apache mascot. next month the board will take ideas from students and the community before making a final decision on that new mascot. this current one has been a source of tension between people who think the name honors the apache people and those who kind it offensive. >> want to check the forecast. a soggy start. you warned us. >> a soggy start but we'll see a sunny finish. good morning to you. some cities over the past three days have actually made up their

entire average for the month in terms of accumulated rainfall. i'm talking mill valley picked up over 2.5 inches of rain. as we head throughout day we'll continue to see rain roll through the east bay hills, we'll add to this total over an inch of rain there, half moon bay almost an inch and 3/4 in some places like san jose. we're looking pretty good in terms of our average totals. we needed that rain and it came through on time. let me show you. there is the real time doppler radar. you can see most of the shower activity t the oranges, the reds over the east bay. a lot of this is starting to push out of here toward the sacramento valley. so keep that in mind. we're going to see a nice dry finish to the day, all of the shower activity continuing to stream in and for us we're looking pretty good. throughout day temperatures are going to jump from the 50s to the 60s. we'll see a nice finish,

sunshine on the way. i'll detail that and tell you about our next weathermaker. right now, though, let's say good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. while rain is calming down still have the slick roads. slippery conditions and mist on the windshield enough to use wipers. you see the glow to the lights and mist in the air. that's what you'll deal with into and through san jose. we see that the speeds are not so bad. northbound into downtown, down to 58 so not a major concern. none of the flooding like we saw yesterday. the map changes to the green in the area of livermore, wet route 580 westbound here, and als stall reported as you pass by north livermore avenue. watch for slowing developing there as crews arrive. also watch off to the right you see the alta mont pass sign is, there may be ponding there and also east tesla road a lot of mud slide through the area.
