cold air. many of the inland valleys in the 20s. 28 in napa, 37 in san jose. our coldest locations will be our warmest later this afternoon. by noon we'll be looking at temperatures approaching the 60 degree mark. we had lots of clouds yesterday. hire will begin to build back into the region as we head back into the day today. it will be warm and sunny once again, similar to what we've seen across the bay area. as we take a look outside, you are waking up to clear visibility. we are under another spare the air alert day for today. with temperatures in the 30s, we'll see highs warm into the 60s.

as you can see, we're already breaking up to sunshine. >> for the first time the family of jahi mcmath is asking for more than your prayers. they're asking for donations to pay for an airlift to move the 13-year-old child to a new facility. this comes days before a court order requiring the hospital to keep the brain dead teen on a ventilator expires. >> we need to buy more time. we'll have to go to court and buy time. we'll have too do this by any means necessary. >> the almeida county coroner says he will not interfere with the family's efforts to move mcmath out of the hospital.

the hospital said it won't release her until they did confirm she's going to a licensed care facility. >> late last night, transit workers ratified a new contract. last night the vote bridges to a close nine months of negotiations the new contract gives bus operators and mechanics an almost 10% raise over three years but calls for a flat monthly health care contribution from employees. >> two men under arrest after police connect them to a christmas eve robbery in sonoma county. a 67-year-old man was hit and robbed. thieves looted him of cash and other personal property. the victim went to the hospital with severe head trauma.

he's disappeared after being discharged from san francisco general hospital. he has been a regular volunteer at major disaster relief events like hurricane sandy. family and friends used their observe search and rescue skills to comb san francisco looking for them. he called police yesterday after seeing his picture on television. >> we had people on the streets. it was the media. he saw the broadcast last night. >> nice to know he was responsive. he told police he'd like his privacy. >> friends in san francisco mourning the death of a skier killed in an avalanche in jackson wyoming. this is a photo of michael kazanjy.

authorities say he was skiing with friends just outside the boundary of the jackson hole mountain resort in an area called pucker face bowl when he set off an avalanche that buried him in snow. he went to school in uc berkeley and had investigators believe he's one of two people who robbed a woman back in august. the victim was walking down the street when two aggressors demanded her cell phone and necklace and ran away. later the suspect used the stolen phone to take a picture of himself. the phone automatically uploads pictures to the victim's computer. if you know who he is, he --

please contact police. starting today more than a million americans will be losing their unemployment benefits. lack of congressional action means the government isnding its long-term unemployment program, affecting 1.3 million people nationwide. in california, the state is home to more than 200,000 of those affected, namely people who have been looking for work more than 26 weeks. some folks losing their benefits say they've gone to extreme measures to find work, such as waiting four hours just to make an introduction.

again a mix of low to upper 60s. as i mentioned earlier, we are talking about improving air quality as we head through the next 48 hours. today not going to be that day but tomorrow and monday the winds start to shift on shore and our computer mol edding, that's going to be morning fog help break out. and we are talking about improving air quality if you plant to be outside for new year's day or evening. by monday, tuesday and wednesday the air quality does at least go from the unhealthy category back to the moderate category. there is some good news, we just have to wait for it for a bit.
