heading to the left side of the screen, those are getting off 0 the bay bridge. they are stacked up, getting as the roadway blocks you, that's the berkeley curve, getting off of the bay bridge. that jam, it's running several traffic breaks. off of the bay bridge, toward the berkeley curve, on the oakland side, a crash, a light pole on the side, sounded like one lane blocked. the traffic breaks look leak they've stopped traffic as you're heading off the bridge, into berkeley and emeriville. counter commute is not one right now. but that's an issue, getting off the bridge, heading into oakland. the arrows, smoothly, all lanes are open. hopefully an update in a couple of minutes saying the lanes are cleared. i'll track that and call chp. new, the certasearch is 0 f whoever killed a man in a milpitas hotel. police responded to shots fired at executive inn near dempsey

road around 10:30 last night. they found a man lying in the parking lot waiith a gunshot wod to the head. police say there's little information available. guests who ran outside after hearing shots say they saw a dark colored car speed away. the city's first homicide of the year. there's only one murder in all of last year into police in san jose investigating that city's third homicide of the year. the man was shot to death on loma verde near win chester and hamilton 5:30 last night as people were getting home from work and kids were playing outside. there are no suspects. the victim's identity has not been released. new, a pedestrian walking along highway 580 hit and killed. investigators are trying to find out why he or she was there. the crash happened aafter 1:00

west of keller avenue in oakland. all lanes eastbound 580 were closed for over an hour. they have since reopened. the driver stayed at scene and cooperated with officers the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. also new, pacifica police on the lookout for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run crash. the driver of a gray or dark colored car hit and killed a man on palmetto avenue. the witnesses say the car may be a monte carlo or charger, took off towards daly city. a man was killed when his suv slammed into an oncoming big rig. it happened on a remote two-lane road south of bakersfield. investigators did not know what caused the 60-year-old bruce avery to swerve into the path of the big rig. he died at the scene. the passenger in the suv and driver of the big rig both taken to the hospital with injuries.

25-year-old college student arrested overnight for reportedly hitting another student with his car. investigators say he got into an argument with another student in a campus parking lot. witnesses told police he hit a student with his car while speeding out of the parking lot. it's unclear if the student he allegedly hit is the one he was arguing with. police tracked him down at a santa clara home. the victim should be okay. >> 4:35. the 49ers in the middle of the playoff run. smith not expected to be in court for his hearing on dui and felony assault. two cases were combined. smith pleaded not guilty to three illegal weapons charges. the charges come from an out of control party in 2012. smith also arrested this summer on suspicion of drunk driving help missed self-games this season while going to rehab. the man who admitted to

kidnapping a 7-year-old girl in antioch expected to be in court. david douglas arrested this month after officials say he followed the girl and her mother home from a walmart, pulled out a gun, as they unloaded gross swriz to groceries and took the girl. he's been charged with six felonies. douglas called the kidnapping a cry for help. livermore golf coach accused of abusing several kids expected to be back in court. andrew nisbet allegedly report ed molesting three students. three boys accused of assaulting an unconscious person at a house party, two of them serving 30 days in juvenile hall, the third sentenced to 45 days. they confessed to assault 15 yard audrey pott and taking pictures of her without her

shorts on. a week later, she committed suicide. neighbors in hillsborough on edge after a man reportedly forced a woman into his car and then took off. happened about two yesterday afternoon on bridge road, not far from the mills health center. witnesses tell police they saw an argument between a man and woman and say the man punched the woman and told her to get into a vehicle. a dark colored older model nissan pathfinder. after putting the woman in the character the suspect drove off. waiting to find out what the bomb squad detonated in the sunset distrache last night. officials responded to reports of a suspicious device at 46 avenue about 6:00 last night. three hours later, the bomb squad was called in and detonated that device. explosion started a small fire and shattered windows at a neighboring corner store. people who live on 46 avenue say it was loud. >> sounded like explosion, like

a huge firework. just you know explosion, we heard echoes. we didn't know what it was. >> the area had been evacuated and no one was hurt. relatives of a man who recently passed away found the device and called police. new details in the brushfire on an island not far from antioch. three homes and several out buildings destroyed in the 50-acre fire which broke out 2:30 yesterday. firefighters cleared the scene 9:30 last night. people on the island were evacuated but no one was hurt. it happened on kimble island across from the antioch marina. the fire blew west. because of off-season fires like this, cal fire says its emergency fund is running low. it only has 11% of its annual contingency left which is supposed to last through june. >> for every penny we spend now, it impacts spring and summer

when we normally be hitting that fund up for expenditures of this nature. highly unusual to be spending money from the emergency fund in january. >> now, agency leaders are considering bringing back more than 100 seasonal firefighters months ahead of schedule. cal fire says if wildfires continue without rain it would have to ask state leaders for more money. >> we shouldn't be having brushfires in january, it's been dry and the weather not helping, though it feels good. kind of feel guilty liking it. christina loren, what's going on? >> feels like the summertime. yesterday, i came this close, this close to using my air conditioner in my home. i have pugs, i'm looking out for them. look where we're starting the day half moon bay. 64 degrees at 4:39 as we get into late january. highly unusual. that's the case. we'll broke potentially smash

temperature records today. temperatures chilly, up in the north bay. running anywhere between 5 to 15 degrees cooler in some cases than we were at this time yesterday morning. so as we head throughout the day today, we are counting for another unseasonably mild day. the reason it's warm at coast, that's where we're getting the strongest offshore winds and winds warm as they move from land to sea. san francisco, you have that straight wind coming out of the east pushing to the west, negating that marine influence and that's why it is so warm out there to start the day. san francisco, you're on your way to the 70s today. talking about 76 in the east bay. 77 in south bay. peninsula lated to hit 77 degrees. keeping 80 degrees for santa cruz. if you can get out there, it will be nice. we have the red flag warning in place. i'll talk about that in my next report. good morning to mike inouye. weird to say check your fluids. you could overheat with weather like this. >> i'll drink lots of water.

bay bridge, take this to full screen, notice that the trucks coming off of the right side of the screen are stopped and they have been for at least the last 15 minutes. we see flashing lights where the westbound curve shows folks heading toward the bridge. it's behind the pillars. i'm told by chp one lane blocked getting off the bridge, for some reason, only those vehicles are stuck. maybe they can't get back to the other lanes. heading toward the maze off of the bay bridge eastbound. as you see the flow on to and off of the bridge moves smoothly. the left lane getting on to the east shore freeway, it's a problem. san mateo, take that. nothing on the countercommute. and commute with arrows moving smoothly. volume of traffic. san mateo bridge 92 westbound with taillights. clear view now. we'll watch, this will get more traffic. back to you. >> you say it in a nice way.

happening today, u.s. supreme court will hear arguments about whether it's unconstitution toal to restrict protesters around abortion clinic. there's a 35-foot buffer zone. supporters say the buffer zone is intended to protect workers but the plaintiffs argue, the law targets only people who oppose abortion and that, they say, is unconstitutional. >> they're saying abortion clinics representatives are free to speak, but decide what counselors are not. >> but what it does do is protect women and administrative staff and the doctors. >> earlier this week the court to took action in another abortion case. today, president obama is expected to nominate the next head of the small business administration and she has roots

democrats and republicans are at odds over how long to extend the benefits and how to cover the cost. it's unlikely they'll reach a compromise before the senate goes on recess next week. back to you. >> thanks very much. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. everybody's talking about the weather. >> yeah. this time of year, talking about the weather. but the storm system is the opposite. 13 degrees milder this morning in san francisco than 24 hours ago. the reason, offshore flow strengthened. mountain view five degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. you're not getting wind down there, that's the reason why. throughout the day today, we keep the offshore flow in place, temperatures are starting out mild. starting at 64 half moon bay. as a result, temperatures are potentially going to break all-time records. we'll talk about that coming up. now i want to dive into the forecast and show you what we are expecting. look at santa rosa, 29 right

now. still fair game to climb into the 70s, as we head throughout the afternoon and offshore flow persists. you can see wind directions here. all arrows pointing back out to sea negating marine influence which brings storm systems in this time of year. ja high pressure in control. 28 degrees now, as we head throughout the afternoon, your temperatures are going to climb into the 70s. 77 in san jose today. 73 in places like livermore. up believable that i'm talking about this. but a 45-degree jump, 45-degree jump in your temperatures under this big ridge of high temperatures. it is so unusual. 74 in san francisco. 73 north bay and south bay. fair game to hit 77. seven-day forecast here. we are going to cool off but not by much.
