possible new terror athlete the upcoming olympic games. the threat comes in the form of a video and a promise of a surprise during the games. peggy bunker has more on the security threat and what lawmakers are saying about safety at the games. >> good morning. with the sochi winter olympics about three weeks away this video posted on a gentleman haddy website well known for terrorist chatter shows two men discussing a present for all tourists who come over for the games. in the video the two men sit in front of a banner that wears a religious phrase associated with al qaeda. it's getting a lot of attention because these men are reportedly the suicide bombers responsible for last month's bombing in russia. it was at a train station that caused massive damage. another on a city bus. the bombings claimed the lives of over 30 people. in the video the men say the two bombings were just the first wave and the sochi olympics will bring, quote, a surprise to those who attend.

russian president putin is promising stepped up squurt an unprecedented 40,000 members of law enforcement even with that some say it's too dangerous to go. >> i would not go. and i don't think i would send my family. >> putin said in a statement like any high profile event the olympics could be a target but russia has a perfect understanding of the threat and how to stop it. interestingly the threat has nothing to do with the olympics in terms of motive. russia has been fighting a war about 1,000 miles from sochi where the suicide bombers are originally from. they say this is about muslim blood and russia, not the olympics. ng to olympic athletes f course and their families who will be at the winter games within weeks. jim and jovan plan to cheer on their son corey but the family

just found out yesterday their son had qualified for the games, they say they are proud, their tickets, visas ready but mixed emotions about traveling to russia with all of these terror threats. >> i just was told we're not to sit there and be so flashy in the village. usa and stuff. which i understand and so we're just going to be cautious. >> the family says they don't plan on much sight seeing. they will stick close to the venues. >> the 49ers' quest for six will have to wait for next season. the team knocked out of the playoffs by the seattle seahawks. players will be back this morning to clear out the lockers. bob redell live outside headquarters this morning. yesterday's loss came with a fair share of drama. >> reporter: and disappointment. good morning to you laura. 49ers arrived home last night in santa clara. you could see them disembarking their charter plane.

then when they arrived at the training facility in santa clara there were about 100 fans, cheered them on as they retrieved their cars and headed home for the night. the team will be back here later this morning for a meeting, a team meeting, then clearing out the lockers. the 49ers did come so close to beating the seahawks with seconds left. colin kaepernick passed to michael crabtree in the back corner of the end zone for what looked like a touchdown but seattle's cornerback richard sherman batted that ball for the game ending interception. sherman is by no means a friend of the 49ers fans, not because of what he did on the field but because of what he said afterwards. >> if i knew crabtree was a mediocre receiver, mediocre, when you try the best cornerback in the game that's what happens. game. >> michael crabtree responded on

twitter saying films don't lie, pull the tape of that game and show me where this guy is the best. again, richard sherman going off on crabtree, he had a very excitable interview with the sideline reporter after the game. we'll show that to you. if you haven't seen it already we'll have it in about a half hour. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> it is what everyone is talking about. thanks a lot. >> mr. sherman, your only good play. colin kaepernick has shouldered the blame. comcast sports net's mindy bach says it's not all his fault. >> coming into this game so much was made about the differences between russell wilson and colin kaepernick, both quarterbacks who could run and throw. very different in style when you talk about risk reward though t quarterbacks had to take risks in this game. it paid off for russell wilson, though, while colin kaepernick struggled. >> a lot of times in these games it's not the quarterback who wins the game.

it's the quarterback who doesn't lose the game. russell wilson did not lose this game as far as kaepernick the three turnovers in the final ten minutes were crushing for the 49ers. you look back in the second play of the fourth quarter russell wilson took a risk reward situation where he saw aldon smith, he knew he had a free play. he made a throw that maybe he wouldn't have made. he put it where he had to. it was a great catch. on the other side kaepernick took his chance late in the game trying to test richard sherman. his mind was made up. he was going to throw to crabtree on that play regardless because of the coverage he saw on the outside, he didn't put enough air under it. kept at little bit short and richard sherman made a fantastic play. >> after the game colin kaepernick did take responsibility for the turnovers. he was this offense in the first half with 58 yard rush in the

first half as well. really what other option desire they have. he wasn't getting a lot. >> this was a difficult match for vernon davis. the seattle safety, earl thomas, the best pair in the nfl they shut down jimmy graham last week. and also frank gore, really difficult on him. the seattle seahawks have a very strong front seven able to stack the box. frank gore couldn't get anything going. the only offense for most of this game was colin kaepernick's running. >> the 49ers will not advance to their second straight super bowl under harbaugh. they lose their second nfc championship under their head coach. >> thank you. now some wagers to pay off. >> caltrain now has to pony up after losing a bet with seattle's transit system. overnight caltrain tweeted red

temperature trend. i want to focus on ocean beach because this is where we'll see the most significant drop, at the coast, as we head through the next couple days. the jet stream stays north, a cutoff low breaks away from the jet. we'll get cooler temperatures. not significant rainfall but we're only going to have the cooler days as we head through wednesday and thursday, climbing right back up toward the end of the week. and then we get a promising chance for rain. in fact, four days with 30% plus rain chances. i'm going to talk about that coming up. we really need that rain. hey, 70 degrees at the beach, if you have the day off hard to beat that, right, scott. >> absolutely. i was in scotts valley, gorgeous. a bay area couple has quietly paid the bill for san francisco's batkid celebration. john and marsha gouldman have written a $105,000 check to the city according to the chronicle. they run a local foundation. goldman tells the chronicle he and his wife have supported make a wish for some time, he says

when he found out the foundation was trying to raise money to pay the city back for this awesome event set up and public safety cost he and his wife decided to step in. november 15 last year san francisco became gotham city to help a 5-year-old leukemia patient miles scott live out his dream of being a super hero. >> that's really nice. a new report finds a 17-year-old may be behind the target security breach that affected millions of americans over the holiday season. >> new developments, iran stopping part of its uranium enrichment program. the latest coming up. >> and the flu not the only thing causing concerns with health officials this morning. whooping cough cases are also on the rise. what the state health department is saying.

welcome back. a very happy dr. martin luther king jr. day. a live look at really the impressive monument in washington, d.c. this morning. powerful to look at. it's 5:13. a new study finds most people hard to believe they don't trust politicians anymore. the study was done by the public relations firm that surveyed people from 27 countries. the u.s. saw a drop, 37% say they don't trust their elected leaders. they attributed the number to several thing, the debt ceilings, standoff, the nsa scandal. could be worse. 32% in france trust their government. >> iran's state tv says the country is no longer enriching uranium.

inspectors were present when they stopped the enrichment program as part after deal struck with world powers. later today inspectors will monitor the suspension of another uranium site, this in the center of the country. the historic deal reached in geneva on november 24. >> a new report out says a 17-year-old from russia is to blame for the target security breach that compromised the credit and debit card information of 70 million customers. cyber intelligence company says it traced the breach back to an inexpensive malwear program created by a russian teen. the program may have been used in the neiman-marcus breach. they do not believe the teen was linked to the people that organized the attack but he wrote and sold the script that carried them out. it says at least 40 cyber criminals bought the script from the teen for about $2,000 each. >> president obama says he does not think marijuana is more

dangerous than alcohol. the president doesn't argue for legalizing pot but he does say in an interview with the new yorker that pot is less dangerous than alcohol in terms of its impact on the individual consumer. the president has acknowledged using pot when he was young, he calls it a bad idea. mr. obama also saying people who think legalizing the drug will solve social problems probably overstating their case, he says. >> the flu continues to spread across the country. in indiana this morning no visitors will be allowed inside if they are showing flu-like symptoms and only immediate family over 18 will be allowed to visit family. we're talking about inside of hospitals. health officials getting anyone over the age of six months to get a flu shot. at least 45 people in california have died from this year's flu and investigating another 50 cases. the centers for disease control say the outbreak has reached epidemic levels. >> california health officials

are reporting a sharp increase in whooping cough. also known as pertussis was once thought to be nearly eradicated. about 83% of last year's cases were in children 7-16, likely because children who got the immunization when they were babies didn't get the booster shot at 11 and 12. the highly contagious disease can be fatal for infants younger than a year old. >> scientists at the space agency waiting for an important call. their comet chasing probe due to wake up and phone home to say everything is well. but because the spacecraft system can take hours to power up the signal has to travel 500 million miles, the first sign of life might not come until tonight. the probe will rendezvous with a comet. >> if it was a person so many things have changed in three

average. about the same as san francisco and san jose. you'll notice that we're going to drop into the mid-60s. the city with an increased on shore flow. we stop the clock on futurecast on sunday. look at this, a pretty organized front draped to our north. it starts to move in through tuesday, at about 10:00 a.m. once that storm window opens we're going to keep it open for at least four consecutive days, great news, we need the rain. we could be measuring at least an inch out of this. we gave mike the day off but really, if anything happens in traffic we'll let you know. back to you for now. >> pretty light so far. thanks so much. 5:18. a high profile san francisco attorney involved in the case of two basketball coaches fired over allegations of hazing. according to the "san francisco chronicle" two players on the team were beaten, gagged and duct taped to chairs by their own teammates during a road trip last month. we couldn't reach the district superintendent for comment but

he told the chronicle the incident was quote extremely unfortunate. now attorney chris dolan says he is considering legal action against the district. he made headlines recently as the attorney of the family for jahi mcmath the teen at the center of a national debate over medical procedures and brain death. >> oakland police investigating after flyers with pictures after jewish city council woman with a swastika on her forehead were around town. the oakland tribune report the flyers were in libby shaft's district over the weekend with the word stop shaft stop d.a.c., d.a.c. reference to the city's plan to build a system of surveillance cameras for public safety. shaft tells the tribune she is surprised she was targeted because she has expressed concerns about the plan. >> new this morning a quick response by firefighters to a fire at a 13-story apartment building in san francisco's north of panhandle neighborhood. fire was reported about 11:00 at

the building on the 1700 block of mcalister street. they had that two alarm blaze under control in less than 20 minutes. this morning the cause is under investigation. >> san jose firefighters trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a popular restaurant. it broke out in the kitchen area of the flames coffee shop saturday morning. employees were inside getting ready to open the store when the fire broke out. two of them ran to the fire station which is just across the street. by the time the firefighters arrived black smoke billowing out of the building. no one injured but you can see gutted causing more than $1 million in damage. >> great news for fans of the star wars franchise t script for the next movie done and shooting, will start in may. the director says filming will be done in england but he will not reveal details about the storyline.

>> reporter: good morning. we're trying to figure out where they are going to be today. for last three years the president has had a paint brush with in his hand visiting schools around the area, so there is a fairly good chance we may see him and mrs. obama at a local school again today. today is the day that we celebrate and remember the revere reverend dr. king. the government t white house, urge people not to sit around but take the day to actually do something to give back to your community. there are communities all over the country that have organized not only events with music and speeches to remember this day, but also real hands on ways that you can help. there is a website set up to find out where you can do that called mlkday.gov. you go to that, pop in your zip code they give you all sorts of opportunities around your area to recognize and participate in

this day of service. >> all right. thank you much. as part of the day of service nearly 200 doctors, nurses and staff from kaiser permanente will spend the day repairing a homeless shelter. volunteers will gather at the center on little orchard street off the expressway in san jose. they will paint and clean and renovate the center part of a 10-year tradition paying tribute with chunt service projects. people in the bay area can kmem wrat a ride on the freedom train. it leaves at 10:00, runs nonstop to san francisco. organizers have warned that low turnout is threatening to end that tradition. the freedom train and the bay area now the only one still running. tickets cost $15. >> an american imprisoned in

north korea more than a year is calling on the u.s. government to secure his release. during an appearance in, he hopes the u.s. can help. bea said he committed acts against the north korean government. he was arrested in november 2012 while acting as a tour guide and accused to use the business to form anti-government groups. he has been sentenced to 15 years hard labor. >> homes were gathered in new zealand, a 6.3 earthquake centered in palmerston north. the quake did trigger rock slides. damage to homes largely superficial like this model at the wellington airport. so far no after shocks reported. >> firefighters say by wednesday they should have the wild fire near los angeles completely "survivor" rounded.

the fire is 80% contained and everyone evacuated were allowed to return home. it started last week when an illegal camp fire got out of control. police arrested three men they say set that camp fire. damaged or destroyed 200 buildings. >> a little bit of rain in the forecast. >> that's great news. >> it is. usually it isn't great but we need it so desperately that we do have rain, in fact, looking at four consecutive days of rainfall. and precipitation amounts above possibly an inch and a half up in the north bay so. this is very much so needed rain. and you can check out the seven-day forecast because the rain is not included there, a cooldown. when the rain arrives, 48 degrees in san francisco. 40 in the south bay, temperatures into the 70s. really good looking day to get outdoors.

shooting in the tenderloin. it happened around 9:00 last night. just off mar get. one shot in the arm, the other in the leg. police arrested the suspect less than a block from the scene. police have not spoke been a motive. both expected to make a full recovery. >> a home in san jose had to be evacuated when the garage caught fire. it happened near thornwood. people were in the home and crews had to evacuate them. firefighters were able to knock out the flames before it spread. investigators are trying to figure out how the fire started. >> we heard warnings from target and neiman-marcus. but this morning experts say even if you did not shop at those stores you should take extra steps to protect your credit. advocates say given all of the trouble consumers should get a

new credit card or debit card, different numbers, consider not using at stores. it's harder to recover losses from debit cards. another option, putting a freeze on your credit so no one can pretent to be you. and it's most important to pay close attention to credit card and make statements. dploo >> you've got to get out the statement and look at every transaction and make sure it was one you initiated. >> credit card experts say people taking advantage, suggest people take advantage of free credit reports checking them every few months. that can imspkt your gred shore as well. >> with the flu widespread, indiana has a temporary policy restricting hospital visitation. starting today only immediate family will be admitted as visitors. no visitors with flu-like symptoms allowed inside. 11 people have died from the flu in indiana.

former nba star dennis rodman back in rehab this morning. rodman reportedly checked himself in to an undisclosed facility to treat his long time struggle with alcohol. rodman facing criticism over his bizarre behavior includinging a meltdown during a tv interview. he admitted later he had been drinking. his agent says the basketball star is embarrassed, saddened and remorseful for anger and hurt that his words have caused. now to look to the games in sochi. track and field olympian lolo jones has been named to the u.s. olympic bob sled team. this is file video last december. though she and star lauren williams were chosen for the team. williams a three-time olympian who won gold in london, turned to bob sled after injuries cut
