going business to business and hopefully be able to corner these suspects at some point and make an arrest. there is still traffic in from uf here on hillsdale. one reason they haven't shut down the road is they don't have inform officers. i got roughly units but they want to put those resources dedicating to find the two who broke into that dispensary. it's been going on for a few hours now. reporting live, "today in the bay." >> it's 5:40. the new jersey governor gets ready for his second term. >> reporter: heavy snow hitting parts of the midwest and the northwest this morning. we'll take you live to washington, d.c. next.
5:41 am
5:42 am
5:43 am
good morning to you. it's 5:42. so this is what a traffic camera looks like. you wake up and watching the indianapolis news looks like traffic is flowing fairly well despite snow and lots of snow, a lot of bitter cold as well. sweeping through the northeast and the midwest. it continues to fall. we got another one of those polar vortexes. tracie potts live in washington, the federal government even closed because of the storm, tracie? >> reporter: it's coming our way too. chicago's starting to see that heavy snowfall. coming through the midwest. to the northeast. we're told in washington we'll probably start to see rough weather, snowfall around mid morning into the evening. and later this evening two, four, maybe six inches in some areas, up in philadelphia they are looking up to 12 inches, up to 10 in other parts of the region. and it's going to be cold as well at or below zero wind chills in many of these areas.
5:44 am
so round two, here we come. there are some challenges. first of all, because it came so early a lot of areas are starting to run out of their budgets for salt and sand to salt the streets. i have seen that up in new jersey. and also propane tanks, a lot of people heated by propane. that's running short. the federal government declared a home heating fuel emergency. back to you. >> tracie potts and christina continues our coverage. travel delays i'm sure. >> yeah. and you know what, this thing is just getting going. let me take it to the futurecast. 5:30 a.m., you can see not a lot happening. we continue that. we stop the clock at 4:30. look at all of the snowfall not only impacting the new england states, the northeast all the way down to raleigh. as we head throughout the day here in the bay area even though it's going to be sunny and fabulous, you want to check ahead because this is going to cause some larger delays. here's the deal. you see the snowfall impressive
5:45 am
to look at. but it's the cold air that trails behind this front that's really going to do the damage. so we're talking about major de-icing delays as we head through wednesday morning, potentially thursday as well. we're expecting 6 to 8 feet of snow. it's going to be really hefty up there. especially in the places like maine so. if you live in the northern new england area and you're trying to get home you want to check ahead for the next three days. 46 degrees in san francisco, 38 degrees to start the day in the east bay. and we're at 40 degrees here in the beautiful south bay. so here's where we're headed throughout the afternoon. temperatures microclimate forecast slows you a little bit of a difference from yesterday. if you want to know where we're headed later on in the week you don't have to wait for the seven-day forecast. it's at the bottom of the screen. saratoga 72 for you, along the peninsula a few more clouds today, high clouds moving in as we head throughout the afternoon. you'll notice that it will paint a pretty sunset. 71 along the peninsula in belmont.
5:46 am
pacific heights. cooler out of the 70s today. and in the north bay looking real nice for a nice stroll through wine country. 72 degrees. in santa rosa, in the east bay good, oakland 65, and the tri-valley we'll see the 70s today. 73 degrees out in pleasanton. so as we head throughout next week, that's when the storm window opens up. as we see the big ridge of high pressure finally weaken, allowing the storm track to come into the bay area. that's going to make for major changes. we stop the clock into tuesday, you can see it's starting to get a little soupy into wednesday. the storm track to our north. so still days out but we're counting on some rain. let's talk to mike about the drive. >> we need that rain as we all know. looking here north 101, this is -- come back for the commute. we haven't seen this since before the holiday. this is what a tuesday typically looks like. northbound 101 past 680. look at the map, showing you the orange and yellow coming through the area. things move better over the next
