telling us it sounds like this was a horrible, a tragic accident. they said that this 11-year-old boy possibly accidentally shot himself. it happened on the 1300 blook the yosemite circle in the neighborhood behind me here in oakley around 7:00. residents, neighbors, came out of their homes to find out what was going on because when the police and the paramedics arrived they did find that this boy again, 11 years old, had been suffering from a gunshot wound and this wound was so severe that there wasn't time to get him to the hospital. he was pronounced dead on the scene. police have not said if there were adults home at the time, have not said how this child might have gotten his hands on the gun only to tell us he was 11 years old and possibly an accidental shooting. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> truly awful. thank you, bob. >> this morning an independent police auditor says he will come

through with an objective report on the fatal shooting of thomas smith of san ramon. investigators say smith along with six other b.a.r.t. officers and sheriff's deputy went to a dublin apartment of john henry lee on tuesday. they knew lee was in custody and went into the opportunity recover items stolen from the fruitvale station last week. sources identified the officer who killed smith as michael mays, a veteran of the department. it's unclear what led mays to fire his gun. smith and mays were partners for years. coming up, continuing coverage of the shooting including the clue that may have raised tension for the law enforcement team. it's coming up at 6:45. >> thick black smoke from burning tires engulfing parts of downtown kiev as protests continue, protesters setting the fires as an ultimatum to demand

day, and it's going to be beautiful up here. >> we're seeing the nice conditions, sunshine around during the day so it's pleasant in the afternoon. thanks for joining us, colleen, from squaw valley. notice the overnight temperatures still cold enough as they have the super size snow blowers doing the heavy duty so far. cold enough to add to the snow on some of the key runs around the resorts. there is a slight chance of seeing shower, so hopefully some of that will drop a little snow in the high country. this morning we're seeing 30s and 40s, san francisco, 51 this morning and seeing a little patchy fog in addition to as you saw on the mavericks video. the potential for rip currents and sneaker waves. same could happen the next couple days. larger waves could come in. coastal temperatures running cooler as the fog has come up the coast. and we will see that trend continue into friday.

the area of low pressure which is moving in will give us offshore winds, red flag warning up to 3:00, and as the winds subside red flag warning nud drop. the low moving east to west, that doesn't happen often. it's pulling up low clouds, notice the sierra, slight chance of isolated showers mainly south of south lake tahoe this afternoon and again on friday. not a lot of moisture but it will bring the tag up the coast. p 68 in san jose, close to 70 morgan hill. the inches around the bay area if we get close to 70 again today, that would easily break new records for this time of year. mid to upper 60s around the peninsula, notice san francisco close to 67, pleasanton 72, trivalue in the low 70s. to give you content, most of the bay area average should be in

the 50s to near 60 so a dip for friday, then through the weekend low 70s and the seven-day forecast shows you those numbers vaulting into the mid to upper 70s possibly by the middle of next week. we could use rain, they are not in the forecast. we have fog and low clouds. >> fog, 15 to 20 degrees higher than normal. we're looking here, we are prepared for the backup. the metering lights turned on so just 15 minutes. and slow off the workly curve. no problems with the east shore freeway. you're at the limit. 880 and 580 start to show that build, typical pattern here. we're showing southbound 880 a smooth drive but the marina boulevard off ramp from southbound 880 is closed. there is a truck on its side and they have to remove it.

kand do that for a while. or past it if you forget that's your second option. use city streets through the area heading into santa lorenzo. east we have slowing in antioch as well as crash that happened near port chicago highway for westbound highway 4. that's causing the unusual slowing through bay point out of pittsburgh. for that portion of highway 4 we have brentwood boulevard closed between walnut and here toward balfor. there is a pole down from a crash and that continues to be down. it will be for the warning. a smoother drive westbound. we slow, on the eastbound side of 580. the westbound commute, making things lighter at the pub lin interchange and a benefit for dublin. northbound routes nice.

danger. not the case today. we've got the offshore winds, you see the direction. the wind speeds, a lot stronger than what we're seeing closer to ground or sea level. the winds at 30 miles per hour out of the north and northeast. so as this area of low pressure drops over northern california it's the period of brief gusty offshore winds. looking at wind gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour, low humidity levels and very low soil moisture thanks to the fact we haven't had rain out there. so at least 3:00 this afternoon elevated fire danger for parts of the north bay. this low tracks to the west. the pattern is going to be a little more like june instead of what you expect in january. you got the fog up the coast with south winds. in the eair ra mid level moisture to top a stray shower or two. we'll watch some of that pulling up from southern california dropping temperatures.

today again, 70 degrees in san jose, morgan hill, in the mid to upper 60s. san francisco you got the clear start to the morning, mid to upper 60s. low 70s around santa rosa. you'll see sausalito at 65 degrees and then the tri-valley highs in the low 70s. it's mid 70s more your thing, second half, middle part of next week we'll see the temperatures climbing to almost spring or summer levels. >> i'm not going to complain. what's the phrase, we need the water. looking toward dublin, it does show a slightly larger volume of traffic. we had the crash i showed you that has cleared from the divide. it was eastbound but a distraction. so now all of these folks going by without any problem. we're showing you the slower drive now over to the dublin interchange.

>> 6:44. it is certainly a tough morning to say the least for one east bay family trying to figure out how their loved one, an 11-year-old boy, ended up dead. officials found the boy shot to death about 7:00 last night on yosemite circle near antioch. bob redell is live in oakley this morning. officials say it was an apparent accidental shooting? >> reporter: oakley p.d. says that, that what happened in the neighborhood behind me here in oakley appears to have been an accidental shooting of an 11-year-old boy, self-inflicted. this happened around 7:00 last night as you mentioned on the 1300 block of yosemite circle. neighbors came out to find out, try to find out what was going on. when police and paramedics arrived they found this 11-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. and this wound was so severe he couldn't survive the trip to the

jose down to 30. temperatures have dropped off but where the off shore winds pick up now, san francisco 51, and you can see some of the interior valleys around the east bay waking up to upper 30s. heading to the coast, the high surf advisory through friday which is good for mavericks, not so good if you want to hike around the coastal areas. look out for larger sets coming in. the fog has come up the coast this morning and that will keep temperatures down before rebounding as we get into the weekend. so the winds right now that's the other part of the story. arrows pointing off shore and some of the north bay communities to give us red flag warning up until 3:00 this afternoon. that is a dry direction for the wind where the air not only drys out it warms up from higher elevations down to the coast. so 3:00 this afternoon, hilltop locations in the north bay dry

and breezy. we'll see temperatures around the north bay despite your chilly start into the upper 60s and low 70s. this area of low pressure doing something interesting going from east to west. it's also helping to drop low level clouds up the central coast which will come up around monterey and santa cruz. keep things cool. also toward the sierra, isolated showers south of lake tahoe. the system doesn't have a lot of moisture. it's not like the low-pressure systems from the gulf of alaska or sweep across the pacific and have deep moisture. this one mainly pulling the upper level moisture to the east and the fog up the coast from our south. the long range view on rain chances, head into the weekend, you'll see high clouds at times, no real sign of rain until maybe monday and tuesday next week. we start to see moisture coming on in but that system really falling apart as we head into tuesday and wednesday. actually what we're going to get is high pressure strengthening, storm track staying to the northment you see in the seven-day forecast, the second

half heading to the middle of next week the temperatures start to climb on up again, mid 70s in some of the warmest spots of our interior valleys. today 68 degrees in san jose. close to 70 in morgan hill. mid to upper 60s around the peninsula and san francisco, to the north bay you see numbers despite those rebounding close to 70. eastbound locations seeing close to 70 in walnut creek. using that as a guide for where our temperatures should be, 50s and 60s. we'll be staying close to 70 degrees through the period. and the tri-valley. beyond that the seven-day forecast shows you the temperatures climbing up. clear skies and dry weather except on the coast this morning. fog could slow things down. >> that's a good note if you head down to the area. we have no problems reported by chp but rob's giving you the warning. close to the water the bay bridge, where the backup is on.

we're going to stick with the maps. a slower drive through berkeley out of richmond. nothing big as far as the volume automatic of the tunnel or through oakland. pretty steady throw and that's nice into san francisco. a fire near valencia and 14th we're going to watch for activity. there is some slowing on 101. what's weird about this the fact there is a lighter volume into san francisco and valencia and 14th where the activity is. okay at that, no problem north or south of the freeways, san mateo bridge shows a little build at the toll plaza side. a smooth drive across into foster city. the dumbarton bridge has no problem here. we'll show you the south bay, the northbound routes now kicking in, all the way up to
