forecast with rob mayeda. >> good morning. a hazy skies around the bay area, 40s across the board from the north bay into the south bay. we're watching winds in the hill tops. a red flag warning for all locations north bay, east bay and south bay. the temperatures pretty warm for this time of year. close to 70. 68 in san jose. mid to upper 60s around san francisco and again north bay locations santa rosa, napa, highs in the low 70s. sunshine around the inland locations but still patchy fog out on the coast. we'll keep watching the coast. >> so far none yesterday today none reported either. over the water, then up to half moon bay. let me show you the maps, 92 the top of the screen. down at the bottom the dumbarton bridge. an easy flow of traffic. at keller reports a deer was

killed. they have to move that from the lanes. you see slowing approaching highway 13. there may be a traffic break. i'll check with chp. back to you. >> thank you so much, mike. we begin with breaking news. bombers targeting police officers detonated three explosives in cairo as it looks to mark the third anniversary of the revolution. the gun men opened fire after the bombs went off in seems like an attempt to start an all-out war. >> reporter: a series of explosions have rocked the capital of cairo, the first happening at 6:38 local time and hitting the police headquarters not far from our vantage point, a critical symbol of state power, the ministry of health telling nbc news that at least four people have been killed, and some 76 wounded. that was followed by a second explosion near a metro station where at least one person was killed and four people wounded.

and then after that came a third blast which happened, an ied, so far no casualties. this at a critical juncture for this country. tomorrow marks the three-year anniversary since the 2011 egyptian revolution ahead of important announcements such as the parliamentary and presidential elections. both sides supporting the transition and those opposing it are planning to demonstrate. we'll keep a close eye on this story. >> closer to home new this morning a pot grow house in pittsburg went up in smoke. take a look. the flames were so big firefighters had to call for backup. they were able to keep the fire from spreading to other homes. investigators say the house was vacant, nobody was there when the firefighters arrived, no injuries of course. and the cause is under

investigation. to a developing story now. police in oakland looking for a 14-year-old accused of killing his older sister. 17-year-old was found dead in her apartment complex in oakland's china town neighborhood. the 14-year-old mario shot and killed his sister during an argument and ran away. it's unclear what the two were arguing about. she leaves a 2-year-old daughter. >> a good mother, good person. >> justice was a beautiful young lady. she was -- a young mother, she is a caring -- she just wanted to be there for her daughter. >> coping with the loss of their daughter the family is urging their son to turn himself in. they already lost one family member and they don't want to lose another. >> in the east bay counselors will be on hand at holy rosary

school following the to side of a young boy. it happened in oakley wednesday night. first police thought it might be an accident but following an autopsy the coroner ruled the boy shot himself intentionally. it's unclear if any one was home at the time other than the boy or how he was able to get his hands on the gun. >> an autopsy shows the b.a.r.t. police officer killed in the line of duty died from a single bullet wound to the chest. he was the first b.a.r.t. officer killed on the job of it he was shot by his fellow officer during a probation search in dublin on tuesday. the bullet struck smith in one of the small areas not protected by his vest. it's unclear why the officer fired his gun. a public funeral for sergeant smith will be wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the neighborhood church of castro valley. a fund has been set up. to find out more on that and this story go to nbcbayarea.com

and search tom smith. >> a deadly shooting was not captured on the officer's body camera according to the chronicle. the paper reports the five officers who entered the apartment were not wearing the cameras or didn't have them turned on. they can be clipped onto lapels or glasses and officers should turn them on before traffic stop, arrests and searches. >> the police officer accused of an inappropriate relationship with a teen is due back in court. richard hastings iii of concord was arrested last august. police say he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old between june and august of last year. hastings has said in the fast relationship was consensual and the teen misrepresented his age. >> today palo alto police expect to release sketches of three suspects wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery. this happened before 11:00 yesterday morning not far from

downtown. the elderly couple say they heard a knock at the door and when they went to open it three armed men forced them to the ground and ransacked the house, skeeling credit cards, jewelry and a gun. the couple was shaken but not physically hurt. neighbors say they are rattled. >> there is an escalation of arrogance and violence and that's something to be concerned about. >> police say it appears the attack was random. they are working on a more detailed description of the three men they say took off 18 light colored four-door sedan. >> if you have a home security camera police may be knocking at your door one day. a council man proposing a central data base where city residents would let the police department know they have cameras and are willing to share video if a crime happens nearby. the goal is help police catch criminals and deter crime. >> the ability to provide

immediacy to the department by letting them know that there is a video camera nearby they can talk to the owner and ask for permission to use the video. >> the plan also suggests discounts for homeowners who want to install cameras. it will be on the agenda next week. >> happening today, the wait is officially over. it's the super bowl of surfing and kicks off in hours. we're talking of course about maverick. >> 24 of the best surfers are in half moon bay for the prestigious competition. half of those are from the bay area, two locals alex martin and dave wasle will have to skip the competition. they were hurt during practice runs earlier this week when the waves were about 15 feet, today's waves could reach 45 feet. >> i would say this is pretty close to the lombardi trophy for surfing. it takes everything you know about the ocean to compete and survive and be successful at

mavericks when it's this big. >> so a reminder, the beaches around the point will be closed again this year because of this, remember 2010, a wave wiped out the crowd, injuring several. instead a viewing festival. our bob redell is out in half moon bay where his fans are getting ready. he'll have a live report on all of the festivities in the next half hour. >> so amazing when all of the stars align and we get these amazing waves. it has to do with the weather. and what's going on. good morning to you, rob. >> we've been watching the waves, massive storms to the west, not the kind that's going to bring us rain. that swell close to 10 feet, wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour this morning. and we should see some sets coming in 13 to 15 feet as it hits the undersea ridges. should give us breakers above 20 to 30 feet, maybe as high as 40.

so the forecasts if you are heading out there and going a ride through the wave, we're going to see the 60s. then temperatures in the 70s out by the coast as we move through this weekend. outside now, kind of a chilly start in parts of the bay area. 40 in livermore, 34, a chilly start to the morning again in santa rosa. 42 in san jose. what we're watching these offshore winds which means we've got another day of high fire danger around the bay area with the red flag warning. not just for the north bay but for the east bay and also the south bay hills through 1:00 this afternoon. with gusty winds at times. our temperatures thanks to the same weather pattern it's looking warm. talking highs, upper 60s to near 70. san francisco seeing the numbers climb and low 70s around the north bay. 68 degrees, we'll see the temperature trend climbing into the low 70s next week and mid 70s by next tuesday and

wednesday. >> rob, that was great weather. great job being friday. it's 4:41. here is the bay bridge toll plaza. we'll look at the map. an easy approach. no problems in the north bay, up until about a minute ago we were seeing slower drives for 980 approaching 880. 880 starting to show slowing. there are road crews starting to move between now and 5:00. we see slower at times on the sensors but the traffic is fine. the earlier slowdown we saw 580 approach highway 50 has cleared so the incident reported involving the deer hit in lanes. it's clear from the chp report. they move that to the side of the road a. smooth drive and heading over to the tri-valley across the water a smooth flow

4:45. experts say that justin bieber's latest legal troubles may make him eligible for deportation. >> yesterday he was arrested in miami charged with dui, dragracing and resisting arrest. he even climbed on top of a car to wave to screaming fans as he was being released on bail. there you see it. he admitted to drinking, smoking pot, taking prescription drugs before getting behind the wheel and he still is being investigated for reportedly egging his neighbor's house in los angeles causing $20,000 of damage. experts say the fact that multiple agencies in different states are investigating bieber

make it easier for immigration officials to have a case to have him deported. >> edward snowden says he is not against spying but thinks that the u.s. is going too far. the former nsa contractor held a live web chat where he said that coming back to the united states would be the best resolution for him but it doesn't look like that will happen soon. he denies stealing pass words and said he was not working with russia from the beginning. >> i don't think that there is strong evidence indicating that he operated with any foreign support. >> he ought to be returned to the united states and face those charges. >> in his live web chat snowden says he didn't think there is any way he could get a fair trial in the united states. >> let's talk about opal. the tech giant says it plans to introduce two new iphone models. courtney reagan is live at cnbc headquarters. good morning. >> good morning. scott futures are lower

following the sell-off triggered partly by disappointing data out of china raising concerns about global growth. the dow at a five-week low and the dow and s&p 500 on track for the worst performance in six weeks, look for earnings from proct procter & gamble and zeer rock. start trading at 16,197, the nasdaq down 24 to 4218. apple reportedly plans to introduce two new iphone models with larger screens. the current models have 4 inch screens, "the wall street journal" says apple will scrap the plastic iphone 5c which hasn't caught on like the 5s. the retailers cut the price on the 5c and some are practically giveth away. the fbi is warning retailers to expect more credit card breaches after discovering 20 hacker attacks in the past year involving the same type of software used against target. the fbi sent out a report details risks posed by malware.

congress is to set off hearings into the target breach. the cfo is scheduled to testify before a senate panel on february 4. >> thank you very much. 4:48. i said originally that apple was going to -- said it was going to introduce two new iphones. "the wall street journal" says that apple will. make that slight correction. my original day job i should try to get that right. >> never know. that's all right. checking in now with rob and getting a look at the forecast which is balmy, rob. >> it is. for this time of year temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above where they should be. we've got the dry conditions outside, so the mornings are chilly, low 40s around the north bay. 42 in san jose and the air quality enough of a breeze to keep most locations in the moderate category. pollen is fairly high thanks to all the sunny and dry conditions. smoke pollution not so much at least for today as the winds will be somewhat strong.

you can see in the north bay winds 5 to 10 miles per hour. some gusts in the hilltops up to 30 miles per hour. and that's the reason why we do have high fire danger. the offshore wind, north bay, east bay, now the south bay hills, above 1,000 feet we'll have the red flag warning. until mid afternoon today. and that warning should subside toward the evening. we see things start to calm down in terms of the wind speeds. we have an area of low pressure that is strangely drifting to the west. high pressure to the north of it so it's curving back out to the ocean later today. we will see some high clouds coming in at times, and still a slight chance of isolated shower in the sierra. most of that is starting to drift away and could see patches of low clouds closer to the coast for the afternoon. a chilly start for the morning, you need a winter coat through at least 10:00 or 9:00 this morning. by the afternoon back in the t shirt weather. 68 degrees in san jose. 70 in morgan hill.

san francisco mid-60s, peninsula temperatures in the upper 60s and into the north bay we'll see highs in the low 70s, low 70s for pleasanton. in the seven-day forecast, still no chance of rain but by wednesday and thursday we could see those highs climbing around the tri-valley into mid-70s. the weekend a warm-up, then a bigger warm up by the middle of next week. >> looking good. new details now on that pileup that killed three people in indiana. look at these pictures, hard to believe. officials say it could take weeks to figure out what caused the crash. happened about 3:00 yesterday afternoon, shut down both sides ever busy interstate 94 near michigan city. 20 people were injured. witnesses say it was near white-out conditions and took hours to rescue people from cars. crews spent the rest of the night towing the 30 tractor-trailers and cars off of the interstate. >> just an awful situation in canada. detectives in quebec will spend the day delicately picking

through the iced over burned remnants of an elderly care facility where 30 residents are still missing. the facility caught fire yesterday, five people have been confirmed dead. nine others hurt. the town's mayor says many of the residents in the 52-unit complex were in wheelchairs. it took five hours in subfreezing temperatures to put out the flames. still ahead, an unexpected guest pays a visit to a neighborhood. >> seth curry does something no warrior has done in 20 years. >> a live look at the bay bridge. an easy drive. we expect a lighter volume of traffic. we'll give you a live look at the east bay coming up.

after being snubbed last season warriors star steph curry will start in his first career nba game. he received the most votes of any guard in the western conference, the second highest number of votes for a player in the west, only behind kevin durant of the thunder. curry the first warrior to start in an all-star game since latrell sprewell back in '95. tip-off is february 16 in new orleans. of course the winter olympics now less than two weeks away.

>> that's right. we are experiencing really dry conditions here in california, forecasters say there will be no such shortage of snow in sochi. the official meteorologist for the games says there will be snow for all of the events in the mountains, heavy snow has been falling recently and most of the slopes are covered with a thick layer of fresh powder so good news there. nbc bay area is your home for your olympic coverage. this sunday night join our own janelle wang for a look at the games with our road to sochi special. she will sit down with the northern california athletes heading to russia, that special begins at 9:30. >> now let's talk about the road to san francisco. sounds like -- we need music. >> we're looking here, our road through dublin and into livermore. livermore to dublin. a smooth flow. look at all of the cars. this is westbound where the arrow is around the shops and a smooth flow. the development already out of the alda mont pass.

no incident there is or the rest of the tri-valley. the east bay moves, into the south bay, a smooth flow. construction in the middle, 880, traditional. at the top left of the screen through palo alto for 101 but a live look shows you not a problem. we don't see flashing lights at university. south of there you see the light volume. you are able to move, be careful. folks are working hard. back to you. >> some people in southern california they were visited by the unexpected guest. >> take a look, this young black bear was spotted wandering through people's yards in a pasadena neighborhood yesterday. can i have a bear? >> hanging out. can we keep him? >> a news helicopter tracked the bear as it rummaged through. at one point the bear sniffed the windows of the news van. bears can open vans.
