>> that breaking news is in the south bay. police are investigating a deadly stabbing in downtown san jose day, one dead, another in jail. >> i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. is that stabbing happened this morning outside a club on santa clara street between 1st and 2nd. beenry dell is gathering information. police say investigators nabbed a man in his 20s. he was stabbed to death after a fight that started inside johnny v.'s nightclub. it spilled out on to the street. happened in the downtown area near santa clara and 1st streets 1:15 this morning.

when officers arrived, witnesses pointed out a possible suspect still on the scene. police took that person into custody. they have not said, though, however, how that fight started. again, bob redell live on the scene now talking to homicide investigators as we speak. let's turn to weather and our microclimate forecast. a live look across the bay area. we are, once again, dealing with patchy fog, low clouds this morning, but it's not as bad as yesterday. let's turn it over to christina loren. >> good morning. good morning to you at home. this picture of the golden gate bridge illustrates what a different a day makes you can make out both of the towers of of the ggb. throughout the morning, we are expecting that dense fog to develop. but mostly throughout your inland valley. so that's where you want to travel cautiously this morning. throughout the day, we've got a nice, warm finish. showers move in. we'll talk about where and when in your complete forecast in a

moment. mike inouye, looks quiet. >> it is quiet out there. it's very early. the same shot we showed you yesterday whereas christina said things are different. we notice there's a lot more visibility on the roadway. you can see mission boulevard overcrossing and the city lights behind it. that was not possible yesterday. smooth flow of traffic here. to the maps, easy drive for your speed sensors through the area, by mission boulevard. yesterday, it was socked in on the right-hand side. orange painted all over the map, meaning tough viz ability because of fog. though it's not on the maybe, we'll get a live shot by the arrow. you can see, just the glow for the lights, it's not completely clear. patchy fog in spots around the bay. we'll track that. so far, sensors are not picking it up but live cameras are. that's why we have both of them. new, officials in china surveying damage after a majorth quake. it struck 1:00 1:20 this morning

in a sparsely populated area. the quake was so big, officials worry there could be significant damage and casualties, there are differing opinions on the size of the quake. usgs says magnitude 6.9, another 7.3. it was followed by seven smaller quakes within a half hour. now to a developing story. investigators say this is the man that everyone needs to be on the lookout for. witnesses say he may have abducted a 13-year-old girl from an oakland parking lot sparking a statewide amber alert. they say the man, armed with a knife, forced his way into a red sedan, took off with the teen and an elderly man in the car outside safeway in lincoln shopping center on redwood road, where the surveillance was taken. witnesses say the man was caught shoplifting at the safeway. he ran outside, car jacked the

teen and an elderly man. two hours later, chp issued an amber alert. as you're about to see, police say the man's jacket and headphones and baseball hat quite unique. hope someone will recognize him and give them a call. >> it's unthinkable, you don't know if you're going back home. >> investigators are asking people to be on the lookout for a red or burgundy sedan with license plate number 6jfm648. new this morning, police investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in san francisco's pacific heights neighborhood. that crash happened before 1:00 near van ness and pacific avenues. officers found a person down in the road. the pedestrian pronounced dead at the scene. the driver is cooperating with police. after almost two years after waiting the trial against the man accused of kidnapping and killing 15-year-old sierra lamar is moving forward.

garcia-torres sitting in jail for two years. he'll be arraigned tomorrow. that's when the formal charges are read to him. he has not entered any kind of plea. garcia-torres was indicted yesterday by a santa clara county grand jury. that means that trial can go forward. lamar last seen march 16, 2012, in her home on morgan hill. she never made it to school that day. her body was never found. despite progress in the courtroom, the family holding out hope that the teen could still be alive. >> i still -- still stick to that, you know? that's the thing that keeps us going, having that hope, you know, regards of what anyone says. >> garcia-torres was also indicted for several violent attacks on south bay women in 20009. 4:35. police in san leandro looking for a man that tried to lure a middle school student into his car. that student goes to bancroft middle school.

walking near the school when the suspect pulled up alongside her and told the girl her mom wanted him to pick her up. the girl refused and continued walking to school. she told staff members who immediately called police. another thrilling day of competition already under way in sochi. it's 4:30 in the afternoon. isn't that pretty? live look at the area where they are doing the skiing out in sochi. there's the flame, as well. >> major event happening right now is u.s. women's hockey team squaring off against canada. the puck dropped moments ago. >> bitter rivals. this is what happened last time they faced off two months ago. a brawl on the ice. canadians have won gold in three straight olympics. now, other events happening right now will air on prime time tonight. right now we will give you a peek at some results. >> if you'd rather wait to find out, close your eyes and wait for the music to end.

this morning but we have better visibility. overall, warmer than average. 2 1/2 mile of visibility in napa. good morning in wine country, you want to take it easy. as you know, we have a lot of the remnant moisture. temperatures are going to fall below 32 degrees up there. that black ice formation likely as we head throughout the morning hours. vis abili visibility a factor. livermore, for example. immediate coast looking good, except half moon bay, two miles there. quarter of a mile in livermore and throughout the tri-valley, travel cautiously. we'll check on your drive with our own mike inouye. >> things are different. we talked about livermore. we showed you the live camera in dublin. here's the bay bridge over my shoulder in front of you right there. low clouds barely above the towers getting over on the willie brown side, newly renamed with the signs and all. smooth drive into and out of san francisco across the span.

overnight road work on the incli incline, westbound, losing one lane as you travel westbound, not a major concern. through the north bay here, the sensors through san rafael showing you at the speed limit and no orange. orange indicates fog and that's on the maps farther north. toward american canyon, off of instate 80 highway 29. a look at speeds for the south bay. from the north bay to the south bade, speeds moving nicely, green zone for the northbound routes. for the freeways, that's the commute direction in the morning. the peninsula as well. for a live look through palo alto, 101 not as clearly visible. we can make out the hills through palo alto. back to you. >> 4:40. still ahead on "today in the bay," dramatic video of a crash involving a new york city bus. details, next. wiped out by a giant wave of snow. video that's going viral, coming up.

very good wednesday morning. the span of the bay bridge, not as foggy as we've seen in recent days. christina's got a look forecast coming up. 4:43 now. new video into the newsroom. it's a horrific crash involving a box truck and a new york city bus. take a look. we've confirmed one person killed, four other injured. you can barely make anything out in the mangled mess. the bus and truck collided, then slammed into nearby scaffolding. no word how many people were on the bus. several blocks shut down as people continue to shift through the rubble. >> candlelight service held for a cal football play who died after a team workout fright. an autopsy being conducted how the 21-year-old died. a defensive lineman from bakersfield, a public health major, selected to the second team pac-12 all-academic squad

last fall. the service runs from 7:00 to 8:00 tonight next to cal memorial stadium. san francisco mayor ed lee, lieutenant governor newsom and governor brown will meet with french president hollande at the rotunda. flying in from washington, d.c., he just attended a state dinner with president obama. now after meeting with lee, newsom and brown, hollande will have lunch with local business leaders including google and twitter execs. within one month, energy experts predict we'll be paying as much as $4 a gallon for gas. they say there are a few reasons for the increase. first, refineries plan to scale back production to perform the yearly maintenance and the state's getting ready to switch over the more expensive winter blend of gasoline. right now the statewide average for a gallon 3.66.

average in the bay area is close to that, 3.63. this time last year, statewide average was 4.06. the country, one step closer to being able to pay its bills next month. effort to raise the debt limit and borrow more money passed the toughest hurdle, the house. for that and the news before the bell, bertha coombs live at cnbc headquarters, good morning. >> good morning. you know, looming snowstorm may have had something to do with the fact they did it so quickly and wanted to get it out of the way before washington and the ref of the east coast gets socked. the futures have slipped a bit. looking at a slightly lower open they were higher earlier this morning. we had a big rally yesterday with the dow, nasdaq, s&p 500 rising for the fourth straight day. investors liking what they heard from janet yellen. she pledged to keep interest rates low for a long time and said the fed will continue to pare back on its bond-buying

program. the dow jumping 192. start at 15994. having its best four-day winning streak since june 2012. the nasdaq starts the 4191 after riding 427 the house -- 42. the house voting to extent the debt ceiling until next march with no strings attached, avoid another battle that threatens the nation's ability to pay its bills. republican leaders considered adding conditions to the measure which such as eliminating cuts to military pension, but they couldn't secure enough votes. the bill goes to the senate. amazon putting out the help wanted sign. hiring 2500 full-time workers for its centers. last year amazon added more than 20,000 people total. the company says average income for its employees at fulfillment center is 30% higher than traditional retailers. >> thank you.

>> trying to entice people. what about the weather? let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. nice day? >> pretty good day. more showers in the forecast. good morning. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. fog out there, want to point that out right off the bat. it's going to get worse before it gets better over the next couple of hours. look at our temperatures today. out in the east bay, tri-valley, talking about 68 degrees. two degrees shy of that 70-degree mark. we'll see separation in your temperatures between the east bay and san francisco. up to 59 degrees with showers rolling in. by 3:00, 4:00 this afternoon. futurecast tells that story. stop the clock 4:00 p.m., showers into sonoma county. not the gully washer we had over the weekend. light rain, maybe up to a quarter of an inch. we'll keep rain coming. known santa rosa, south to marin county for today and tomorrow. then throughout the second half tomorrow, we'll see showers

but i figure i didn't want to have to go back out. >> ice storm will give leaders in georgia another chance to get it right. they were criticized for a poor response to the last winter storm two weeks ago. that stranded so many on the roadways but this time better prepared. and so are the people as well. a man walking home from work in new york got a good surprise when he was knocked to the ground by a giant wave of snow and ice. >> the whole thing caught on camera. the mix-up kicked up by a snowplow, wham, he's down. the car dealership put the clip on line. video had almost 1 million views. the man's wife didn't believe him until she saw the video on tv. >> what happened? you might with somebody? no, one truck, came through street, put ice on my face no, i don't believe it. >> the 33-year-old is cut up but doing okay. >> good. >> wake up.

dumbarton bridge and san mateo bridges no problem. speeds coming down to 58, 59 miles per hour. so few cars, slower moving car or truck travels through it skews data down. light traffic throw. report of a crash off after san dr bruno avenue, a tire in the road. we will watch for that. no big incidents or problems for that side of the bay. north 680, monument boulevard, reports in the last couple of minutes a road crew truck working in the area hit a guardrail. so they have to stick around longer to fix that or come back later. that's unfortunate. no injuries. east shore freeway, live look, we see headlights westbound 80 moving smoothly. clear view. we couldn't see this far down the roadway yesterday. today no problems for visibility from the carquinez bridge to the bay. 4:56. we continue to follow breaking news. a deadly stabbing near a san
