breaking news happening in san jose where a deadly knife fight breaks out after a confrontation near a popular downtown bar. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm scott mcgrew. right now, crime scene tape is up on santa clara street between 1st and 2nd streets as detectives search for evidence. that's where bob redell is as well. bob, we understand police have found the knife and the suspect. >> reporter: they did. they found it -- them both, the knife and the suspect, shortly after this homicide took place a block and a half from where i'm at now. looking down west santa clara towards 1st and 2nd, and this took place on the corner to the left of the white police van where you can see detectives are outside still processing the scene. actually took place, argument that led up to this originated at johnny v.'s behind that van a bar/nightclub on west santa
6:01 am
clara. it was around 1:00, 1:15, close to last call, two men, both in their late 20s, drinking inside that bar. there was some sort of argument that spilled out on to the sidewalk and escalated when one man pulled a knife and stabbed the other man in the upper body -- hold on. i'm listening to something going on down there, yelling, trying to figure out what's going on. paramedics attempted cpr, no luck. the man was declared dead at the hospital. witnesses pointed out the suspect to police. sounds like he tried to get away but not in an aggressive manner. sounds like he was walking away, perhaps trying to blend into the crowd. it didn't work. police arrested him here at our live location a block and a half away from where the stabbing took place and they did find the knife on the ground, not too far from him. there were a lot of witnesses. police have sorted out which witnesses were helpful, which ones weren't.
6:02 am
the ones helpful, they have taken downtown, interviewing. sounds like they will have a lot of information, good information, as far as what led up to this. they do not believe this is gang related. still trying to figure out if the two people knew each other. so due to the police activity here in the downtown area, there is vta line that runs perpendicular from where we're at, that's the light rail i'm talking about, also bus service, impacted. you can take a look at graphic we've put on the screen right now to see if any of those routes are something that you use on your way to work. those routes should be affected for another hour, until 7:00. as far as car traffic goes, west santa clara, which is where we're at right now, is shut down between market and second as police continue to process this crime scene which unfortunately happens to be the sixth homicide in the city of san jose this year. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. now a developing story in oakland that's taken many twists

someone watching. they're hoping that might help. this is at safeway on redwood road near highway 13. police say he's believed to have been car jacked a man and teen girl, possibly 13, in the parking lot outside and all three haven't been seen since. >> this investigation will not stop. investigators will work through the night. >> it's unthinkable, to go inside, and you don't know if you're going to go back home. >> reporter: this story keeps evolving. initially the car reported as a burgundy infinity suv. the amber alert signs show the same license plate, 6jfm648 but list the car as a red sedan. owner of the infinity was contacted saying, look i live back east. a lot of questions but the amber alert remains in play. live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you much. new this morning, police investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in
