in moments. right now let's check on the drive. >> good morning. we do have the clouds in palo alto so that's the deal. on the peninsula the clouds above the deck but watch 1 and 92, lower visibility there. on the other side of the bay oakland and i show that red light on the corner of the building where our camera is mounted. we can make out the light. the lit up billboard. there is a tough view across the street from our rooftop camera. watch for patchy fog as you rise up for 13 and 580. there is the bay bridge toll pla plaza. one of the lanes is not open. the bay bridge, there is mist around there. see it in the south bay too. >> thank you. san jose, according to the

"mercury news" investigators say mario cuestas sold. he had been a fire fight enin san jose since 1994. it's unclear how many children were involved and how long the alleged crimes went on. christie smith gathering details. she will join us with a live report in the next half hour. >> uc-berkeley offering measles vaccin vaccines. a cal student who had not been vaccinated has come down with the measles. the student was likely exposed during a trip abroad. he affected classes. we are told the person lived in contra costa county. traveled on b.a.r.t. and downtown berkeley. >> the measles vaccine is extremely effective. people who are immunized don't

need to worry. >> measles contagious. you don't need to touch someone. you can get flute the air even after they left the room. symptoms include high fever, runny nose, coughing, watery ryes and the rash on the face and the neck. >> 4:33. the russian worker who was hit by a bobsled is in stable condition this morning. the worker was air lifted to a hospital yesterday and has undergone surgery on two broken legs. the organizers say the operation went well and the worker is conscious. he was hit by a forerunner sled at the center before the start of the two-man bob sled training. >> a look at the olympic flame burning bright in sochi. you can see blue skies, 4:30 in the afternoon. the weather is a pleasant 62 degrees at the winter olympics. a lot happened while you were sleeping. we'll air the event later today but as always if you are one of those who can't wait we have

was pretty warm. we hit the 70s as we head throughout the day today we're going to see another unseasonably warm finish. that's because of where we're starting out the day in the mid-50s. so happy valentine's day to you and yours. we head throughout the day we're going to see showers mostly in the north bay. for the most part we have a steady drizzle across the bay area, the low clouds are thick. yeah, today we kick off a holiday weekend, want to make sure you get to work safely so you can enjoy the weekend. watch for fog in the north bay. areas you can see for about a mile. oakland this morning at one mile and three quarters. a mile and a half in gilroy. but yeah, ski week starts on monday. let's take you up to tahoe. our bob redell is up there. bob, tell me, what can people expect if they are going to be headed up there this weekend? are there some better times than others for traveling when it comes to safety? >> reporter: yes, absolutely.

good morning to you. we're here at squaw valley ski resort. one thing you expect which may be a week or so ago you wouldn't say is snow. it's here, it's been here for a good week. not just the manmade stuff. good morning. >> good morning. how you doing. >> good. you guys got what, 5 1/2 feet last weekend. you made an interesting comment. prior to that it was what? >> yes. we got 5 1/2 feet last weekend. what i meant was we finally got our mountain back, able to open by this weekend five new big ones, kt 22 on the schedule for today, granite chief opened. this is great for us. it's really squaw valley at its finest. >> expect maybe 6 to 12 inches with a storm coming on sunday. and next week a bunch of activities, ski week for a lot of the school districts in the area. i'm sure, you've been up here five years, what do you expect the atmosphere to be?

>> it's a if unweek for us and lots of family having a good time. we have kids extravaganza. we're looking at hopefully up to a foot of snow this weekend once people have gotten here so shouldn't be a problem for the roads. >> there is going to be a high wind advisory in effect, that's starting tomorrow morning saturday morning through saturday night, talking about sustained winds of 25 to 40 miles an hour. good thing right now we'll look at amelia's hair, it's a dead calm. but this is unusual here. we are on the valley floor surrounded by mountains. it's not something we notice on the drive in so. if you are going to be heading out to the sierra this weekend, squaw valley or other ski resorts be mindful high-profile vehicles could get tossed around a bit. but once you get here it's gorgeous. it's about 45 degree, wind chill is possibly zero. i kid. but it's gorgeous out here.

southbound. look on the map, tied together with our weather system. the orange highlighting where you have fog, right there at the bottom of the orange. we take that live shot. we have more fog reported like the last couple of days here in novato. petaluma looks clear but as you drive through you let me know if you got problems, that will shift, 37 moves because of that light volume right now. more orange blew oakland 580, watch the hills out of piedmont approaching the bay bridge, low clouds over the east shore freeway. no problem for the tri-valley. watch sunol as that will creep in. a look at the south bay, san jose, your view is fine but the glowing lights indicate more moisture. there was mist that might have sensors on my wipers, we have a newer car i'm driving and it's not new, no, but it's newer than the old car we have. back to you. >> sensors. >> still ahead "today in the bay" a new app released that could one day perhaps save your life. >> plus, the podium sweep in

welcome back everyone. a very good friday morning to you. it's 4:45. el camino hospital and the fire department will release an app that could save your life. it is called pulse point. it's been around but the county is now using it. it uses gps to connect people trained to perform cpr or use a defibrillator with people who are experiencing cardiac arrest. the hospital says cpr can double or triple a person's chance of survival. the app is available on most smart phones in the county. >> home depot is hiring 80,000 people nation wide including 600 people for a san jose store. the company says its getting ready for spring, its busiest selling season. students, retirees and veterans among those encouraged to apply. there are concerns about the $45 billion deal between comcast, the parent company of nbc

universal, this station as well and time warner cable. for that and the rest of the news before the bell let's turn to bertha coombs. good morning. >> good morning, scott. the regulatory issues are one of the things that people say will take a while. futures are pointing to a lower start. stocks closed higher, a nasdaq hitting a high, investors shrugged off retail sales, a number chalking it up to the bad weather that we've seen over much of the country. the dow rising 63 to 16,027, the nasdaq up 39, over 4200 to 4240. now that the dust has settled on the news of the comcast time warner cable merger consumers wonder how the deal might affect them. a number of watchdog groups are concerned that cable bills will

go even higher with so much consolidation and service will suffer. the combined company would have -- could have more power to pressure content providers for shows and movies. it's not clear how much of a savition will be passed on. it could take up to a year for the deal to be approved because of these complicated regulatory issues. scott. >> bertha, have a wonderful safe valentine's day to you and a great weekend as well. >> that's right. kicking off valentine's day. want to check win meteorologist christina loren. people can have the whole weekend to celebrate. >> you're looking lovely in red. 54 degrees in concord. 56 degrees in oakland and 55 to kick off the day in san jose. so temperatures are pretty mild to start the day. we're going to end up mild to finish the day as well. which is really bizarre. we have showers into the north bay. we're slated to hit the 60s

later on. we're forecasting 67 degrees in the south bay, 64 in the north bay and 59 degrees in san francisco, count on flight delays today. there's going to be heavier volume because of the weekend and also we're going to see low ceilings throughout the morning. we'll keep you updated. showers roll in as we head through saturday night. looks like most of the action is going to occur while you're sleeping. 4:00 p.m., still showers north of santa rosa at that point. the front will move in quickly. by saturday at 10:00 p.m. it's draped from san francisco through the tri-valley. we continue that futurecast, through sunday at 10:00 a.m., mostly clear conditions. this could bring in potentially 3/4 inch of rain up to the north bay and quarter inch here to san jose. with more rain on the tail of that system as we head through next week. right now back to you, scott and laura. >> thank you much. now more from the olympic park in sochi. most of us are probably not going to get a chance to visit russia. >> we bring our own tour guide.

janelle wang shows us a new perspective of what's called the russian rivera. >> sochi is on the edge of the black sea and at the foot of the western caucus as mountain. black sea, rocky beaches, small waves an area known as the russian rivera. sochi's population, 350,000 and that number is increasing by 70% this month. 200,000 spectators are expected to watch the winter games. media members are reporting on it and 6,000 athletes from nearly 90 countries are competing in it. russians are proud that sochi is on the world stage. >> i'm so proud, it's so great that this event is here. i was dreaming about being in the olympic games for years. and really i'm so happy to be here. >> right now it's unbelievable. a lot of people are just russia,

lights, there is moisture in the air, a mist around much of the bay area. we'll look at the map. overall the bay area looks smooth. we'll get you back to the white bay area shot. i want to show you on the peninsula side, where are you, there you go, on the pens pen side on the right side you see the orange over in pacifica, san mateo looks all right but the glow for the san mateo approach in foster city, there may be moisture in the air there as well which can drift around. looking at construction crews, san jose, sunnyvale, into palo alto for 101. mile and a quarter visibility but may be less as the low clouds drift through. 101 south of coyote, we see the speeds lowering a bit. not a problem. looking at dublin, we don't have major fog. not like yesterday. clear visibility here by el charo. westbound with the headlights and smooth drive at the limit livermore, dublin and the interchange.
