we begin with that breaking news out of pennsylvania between 50 and 100 cars involved in a massive pileup on the pennsylvania turnpike about 30 miles north of philadelphia. take a look. traffic at a complete standstill because how are they going to get through. it's a tangled mess of cars. amazingly no one was killed and no serious injuries. we're told icy roads, crews are having a hard time reaching the area. it comes as pennsylvania is digging out from a massive winter storm. up to 14 inches of snow reported in the area with up to .1 inch of ice. >> san jose firefighter reportedly facing drugs and sex crime charge this is morning after he was arrested at the fire station where he works. christie smith is live in san jose with details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. very disturbing charges coming out this morning involving as you said drugs and sex charges. these against children.

and involving a man who has worked for the san jose fire department since 1994, that part according to his face book page. now the story is in the "mercury news," 53-year-old mario cuestas is charged with the sale and possession of methamphetamine and sex charges with minors. the state department of justice is involved in this investigation and tells the merck they believe he might have been soliciting the minors on line. he was arrested at the station where he worked and is being held without bail. the d.o.j. says that computers and records were seized from his fire station and from his home in the east bay. they say it's unclear the number of possible victims or how long this may have been going on. the information apparently came from a tip but not from a minor. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you. it's 6:02. this morning a health warning is

in effect after a uc-berkeley student has been diagnosed with measles. the student was not immunized and likely exposed during a trip aprude. that student has attended class at cal and traveled on b.a.r.t. >> happening today president obama will be in the central valley to see damage from the drought first-hand. the president plans to visit a fresno farm that's been withering without water. he'll meet with area farmers and local leaders where he will announce significant new efforts to help those dealing with the drought. this is the president's first trip to nez no. earlier this week the senate in dootsed a water bill that gives certain water districts more leeway with the water. >> certainly has been a dry winter but there's rain in the

forecast. you won't get soaked on valentine's day but you could see light rain. >> if it's raining here it's usually good skiing. let's check in with christina. >> and right on time too because we need it for ski week. good morning to you. happy valentine's day to you at home. today we are going to stay dry. temperatures in the 60s as a result. we do have that rainfall on the way to the bay area. first in the north bay by 5:00 p.m. pressing into the south bay over saturday night. hey, we could be accumulating maybe a half inch in the north bay and quarter inch here in san jose. tahoe expecting an additional foot of snowfall above 5500 feet which is why we sent bob out there to squaw valley. oh, bob, looks like you got the best seat in the house this morning. tell me what's it like up there? >> reporter: hey, i'm ready for

them to fire up the red dog chair lift. good morning to you, christina. and you can see if you look at the background they finally got something. it's this unique thing called real snow. the stuff that actually falls from the sky, not the manmade stuff. they got about 5 1/2 feet. another foot expected this weekend. and you can see the groomers are out there right now, the grooming machines as they have been preparing the runs for this friday day of skiing which will kick off the weekend and key week next week. a lot of schools will be off. we spoke to the resort not long ago. they have been sweating throughout mild winter season. it had been mild until that big storm and the one that dumped the 5 1/2 feet. they have been able to open three major lifts, a fourth today and a fifth one tomorrow. >> it's really been night and day. we've been able to open so much

more terrain. really we couldn't ask for better timing with presidents week coming up. >> and the manmade snow is buried now? >> it's definitely buried. we'll make sure as cold temperatures commit. the natural snow has been taking precedent with over 5 1/2 feet. >> when you look at this overall season what's it been like? >> it's been interesting. it's taken until now i think to really get going, we'll finally have our mountain back. >> reporter: and christina, as you are aware there is a high wind advisory in effect for tomorrow morning, saturday morning through tomorrow night. in the area in the sierra. we're talking with sustained winds of 25 to 40 miles an hour, gusts of 60 to 70. if you are traveling you want to keep in mind. especially if you have a high-profile vehicle.

let me ski that. this is 580 through dublin. now a much clearer roadway. we had what saunds like a scary crash. so much traffic. they moved that out of the roadway and no major injuries but i'm tracking this. so far we do have the backup here. the lanes are clear, the map will show you you're jammed up where the crash happened. look at all of this backup, out of the altamont pass. they have been on the weak side of the crash. you get toward tahoe and heading eastbound, bring those changes, bob is up there so he's got you beat. oakland, the orange shows you there may be some clouds and

them a place to stay. >> we'll keep you updated on that and the rest of the news. let's check in with christina. >> good morning to you. you know, we've got a holiday weekend. a lot of people out of town for ski week. locally we have rain on the way, most of which is expected on saturday but we have a little drizzle out there. and some mist. even in south bay this morning give yoursz extra time. san rafael, mike is tracking a couple of things. i want to stay tuned for that. no thick fog in this area. as we head throughout the day today, temperatures are going to climb nicely, we're going to climb out of the 50s where we are now, into the upper 60s and 70s so. a great looking day 145i7ing up. aches sit in the east bay. places like pleasanton, 68 degrees in livermore and 59 on the way to san francisco. definitely a sheen on the

roadway. give yourself tra time. we get into your presidents day weekend. average for the south bay 64 degrees. then the showers come in overnight. by tound you'll see residual activity. then monday looks fantastic for your outdoor plans. same for the peninsula. the average 62 this time of year, you hit 63 on saturday. showers for the first part of your sunday. san francisco, count on wet conditions for sunday and saturday with steady drizzle. you must be clearing out. should be beautiful on presidents day. 56 on saturday. showers moving in for saturday, sunday and the first part of monday. we need rain. we really want it at this point. on sunday in the east bay, the tri-valley looks good, showers

coming in on sunday so this is how your presidents day breaks down. i'll talk about that in my next report. here is mike inouye with that all important drive. >> like you're talking about the clouds, mist and drizzle in parts of the bay area. wesee the tops of the tours on the san francisco side. they are clearly visible now. so continuing to move around. no at major problem aus cross the bay. we see lighter volume. because of the pre-holiday weekend for some. preholiday ski week we tend to see that but we have an issue, west 24 at laugh yet reports of over a dozen cars on the shoulder with -- they say some sort of they cal debris. and the count of the cars.

we don't see slowing. it has been there for 20 minutes. we're looking toward 680. the earlier crash that was looking two lanes. all of these jammed out of the altamont pass. by the time you get to el charo it's easier with all lanes clear you get a burst here, slowing for 680, the orange on the right side, the left said that's because of the low bblt for the tros stro valley y. it's smooth to the palo alto side and in the south bay we have the orange showing us like it was yesterday. watch for off the mountains out of los gatos. we'll give you a live look at palo alto where we also see lower visibility so. we can't see as well for 101 north from university up to willow. it's a limited visibility b. a half mile for 101 and patches for san mateo. watch that coast. highway 1 is going to be a tough drive as well. back to you guys.

between the stations that this student was using this is pretty unwelcome news. because the measles virus is extremely contagious. in fact, if you are one of those on the b.a.r.t. train the virus can hang in the air up to two hours after the infected rider gets off so this is alarming for b.a.r.t. which provides 400,000 rides a day. any one that rode between february 4-7 during the morning commute or in the late evening could have been exposed. the student lives in contra costa county. he commuted on b.a.r.t. from the elser retess station to downtown berkeley. the student attended tuesday through friday having no idea he was infected. >> i'm not really concerned about it really. i know it's a possible danger but i know i probably should get immuni immunized. >> that's one rider getting the news about the measles. immunization really is the only protection. when you consider that measles is spread through the air when a

this morning. that could be what's clouding up our cameras. we're looking good. if you want to go dancing with your partner looking good. make sure you're ready. it's going to be much cooler in san francisco than what we expect. we have the steady drizzle expected in the city by the bay and up through the north bay just about all day long. let's dives right into the forecast. you made it to friday. we have a holiday weekend as we head throughout next couple days. rain is in the forecast. i want to start with a picture of the golden gate bridge. we do have a little bit of a blue sky trying to show up. that's going to be more obvious as we head throughout the next couple hours. it's not one solid cloud deck. that's good news. that means it's not going to be as thick as it has been. at least over the golden gate bridge. we're tracking some areas with dense patchy fog out in the tri-valley so. east bay showing you the steady drizzle. temperatures at 55 degrees. 57 degrees in san francisco. 49 degrees in the north bay.

headed to the pretty comfortable weekend. temperatures are going to climb into the upper 60s, then the rain moves in as we get into tomorrow night. this is what we are expecting. we stop the clock on futurecast. showers arrive in the north bay by 6:00 p.m. take you into the south bay, showers here at about 11:00 p.m. saturday. everything subsides into sunday afternoon. you can make outdoor plans. >> good morning. talking about that mist and the drizzle you're talking about. wet roads, slick conditions in many spots. we kind of use the wipers at least a couple of times over the morning. 101 north of 680. the silhouette of the overcrossings and the low clouds adding to the backdrop. there is the volume starting to build. the map will show you also on here the orange highlighted like the last few days. a slower drive into the 50 miles per hour range capital expressway up to 680, not bad, 87 shows slowing.

>> prosecutors could file formal charges today against a benicia elementary school teefrper accused of serving pot laced food. theresa badger is set ta to be arraigned on three counts of poisoning. badge ser a first grade teacher at matthew turner elementary school. one of 20 guests. most of the teachers who attended a dinner party in benicia last november. after the party several guests reported feeling sick or

15 pminutes begins with top headlines. >> a firefighter is now under arrest. surprising charges here. >> reporter: yes, good morning to you, mario cuestas is held without bail, a san jose firefighter since 1994 according to his face book page. he is facingsterious charges this morning. the department of justice in sacramento believes he was providing drugs to minors and finding them online. according to the merc this morning the charges include the sale and possession of methamphetamine, and sexual assault, also involving minors. he was arrested thursday on the job at the firefighters building, computers also seized and his home listed as in san loren lorenzo. this is an ongoing investigation according to the department so they say at this point it's

unclear exactly how many potential or possible victims there may be out there. and how long this was going on. they say this information did come from a tip but not a tip from a minor. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thanks, christie. >> let's check in with peggy bunker in the studio with a measle i alert. >> that's right. the the tricky thing with measles it sticks around after the infected person is gone. people might not be aware they have. it is contagious. health officials are alerting bart riders they may have been exposed to measles. the affected student lives in contra costa couldn't and commuted on b.a.r.t. from el cerrito del norte to downtown berkeley. he attended having no idea he had measles. one tfr signs, a rash.

he joins us live. you know what, that sun's coming up and you are looking good surrounded by all of that powder. what's it like this morning? >> reporter: isn't that beautiful the way that orange is popping there off the mountains here at squaw valley. the most dramatic change here in the ski season has been in the past week. last week they got dumped with a good 5 1/2 feet of snow. was affecting the upper peeks up there. you notice what would be different >> the 5 1/2 neat we got in the upper mountain made such a difference allowing us to open up our mountaintop beginner areas so a lot more variety. so much more terrain starting to feel like winter again. >> you had three major lifts open this past week. another a day and saying the what? >> weather conditions were slated to open kt 22, we'll call it the mother ship.

fine. well, you know, i'm not going to burst my plans but carl junior is bringing food to your table. no, kidding. looking here, looking at the peninsula, the low clouds sticking around, also the sheen on the roadway, we've been pointing that out. misty conditions around the bay so slick commuting but we should see a typical friday, before valentine's day. we're not seeing a major problem for 101 through palo alto and san mateo. on the coast we see that orange colored in. that's where there is fog reported. that may be an issue. not so much for palo alto. more for the coast. the south bay and here in the east bay we had it for 880 through hayward. this is a slow drive west 580. we had a couple of cars blocked lanes. they have cleared.

the recovery continues. we'll see more cars and slowing 680 especially if the clouds turn into fog. west 24 we had the earlier big issue reported. a bunch of cars on the shoulder. one of those was a punctured gas tank. that's a distraction into laugh yet. no big issues, just a burst of traffic. metering lights not on. smooth into san francisco and we look at the north bay where we have southbound 101, look at the low clouds above the deck so watch for fog flew the north bay. >> thank you, mike. now back to the 2014 winter olympics as we look at the torch in sochi. wree minder of another torch and a golden moment for team usa on the olympic mode yum.
