bank from almost anywhere with the citi mobile app. citi, with you every step of the way. breaking news, investigators are on the scene of a deadly shooting in san lorenzo involving a deputy. good morning. it's 4:30. i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. deputies have blocked off the area near the 880 and 238 interchange. >> bob redell is live in san lorenzo. this is a medical call? >> reporter: it did, taking place in the 100 block of paseo grande. you can see where the deputies have the lights shining on the home on the corner, that is the home in question where the shooting took place. a person shot and killed by a

deputy, this was a little before midnight last night. alameda county sheriff's office tell us they are familiar with this home, they have been called out 19 times for different issues including domestic violence. last night was the 20th and perhaps the final time. this did start as a medical emergency, someone called an ambulance around 11:00 last night. during that visit something happened. some escalation between the medics and the person there, not sure what yet. we're waiting for the officer to give us a better idea. whatever it was law enforcement had to be called out. the sheriff's office arrived. there was a confrontation. a deputy shot and killed a person here. neighbors telling one of our photographers that there were six to eight shots fired. again, we're waiting for the public information officer with the alameda county sheriff's office to arrive on the scene to give us a better idea of what happened here last night, again this shooting around 11:30.

reporting live in san lorenzo, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. let's turn to the microclimate forecast. a live look at the peninsula this morning and palo alto as we see some of the cars, there they go, looks reasonable traffic out there. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >> hey, good morning to you, scott. welcome back, laura. and hey, you know what, it's back to work for some people. must be a light drive because a lot of people are up in tahoe. this morning temperatures are comfortable. 44 in oakland. 46 in mountain view. enjoying the olympics here on nbc bay area, i think you're going to enjoy our forecast especially if you are craving that beach weather. i'll tell you when that moves in. we're tracking showers as well. we also welcome back good friend of mine who i missed dearly yesterday, that would be one mike inouye. >> you are so sweet. i missed you too once i woke up. sleeping late. we'll get to the bay bridge toll

plaza. a couple of minutes ago i saw flashing lights head to the toll plaza. we'll get a resers angle. there is a fender-bender there. you see one set of flashing lights, one set of blinkers. the tow truck looks like it never had to stop. we do have the lane closed so keep that in mind. not all the lanes are open now t ones to the left of the fast track lanes are the ones affected. approaching the area, northbound 880 moves smoothly. we did see slowing for a short time. there are crews in the area. not a major concern. no lanes are blocked. the area where bob continues his report, again near 238 and 880 but not affecting the freeways now. back to you guys. >> thank you. happening now, officers are looking for two men who led them on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash on the golden gate

bridge. it started about 8:00 last night when a ranger saw a man trying to break into a car in the marin headlands. he jumped into a mack mercedes and took off, hitting two parked ranger koorns the way out. then trying to cross the golden gate bridge the driver rear ended a car, and two men jumped out and ran away. officers are searching into the residential areas of the presidio. >> the firefighter accused of abusing a teenager and selling drugs could enter a plea in court today. mario questas was aresd for reportedly abusing a boy and selling methamphetamine to children on line. he has work forward the san jose fire department 20 years, he is on unpaid leave pending investigation. he was also very involved in st. leo the great parish. federal officials are looking into whether there was interaction between he and the children who go to the parish school next door.

>> flags are flying at half-staff in honor of two chp officers killed in the line of duty. the officers, 34-year-old brian law and 33-year-old juan gonzalez were partners and friends with ties to the bay area. law and gonzalez were responding to a call for help on highway 99 when their cruiser slammed into a guardrail. went airborne and landed on its roof. they were headed to the scene of a crash south of fresno when they nearly ran into the wreckage. >> the officers took evasive action to avoid striking any of the parties from the previous collision, lost control of the vehicle, struck the guardrail and severely crashed. both officers received fatal injuries instantly. >> both men graduated from the academy together in 2009. law started his highway patrol career in oakland and is

survived by his wife and three children. gonzalez works in san jose beforing transferred to fresno. his friends say he was talking about getting married. funeral plans have not been announced. >> skyline high school in oakland will be closed today so workers can repair a gas line which ruptured yesterday. crews weren't able to get it fixed by the end of the day. the work should be done by tonight. the school will be open tomorrow. turning to our coverage of the winter games in sochi, a live look at the mountain cluster. it is cloudy and many dealing with a mix of snow and rain. 17 years of training pace off as shift made on the ice. >> american ice dancers meryl davis, charlie white dazzled to win the country's first gold medal in that event. >> the pair set world records for their scores in the short

approaching the area, no slowing, there was a fender-bender and you saw it leave so no problems approaching the maze or the east shore freeway. we'll look to the south. northbound 680 north of calaveras some call it 237 since that's the continuation. overnight pursuit, very slow drive, a car that wouldn't stop that's all it was. it was slow speed. it's on the shoulder now a couple of cruisers there. not a big deal. the rest of the south bay moves smoothly through san jose, cupertino, we'll give you a live look through fremont as well. we see light volume of traffic southbound with the headlights fast truck scales and no problems south. >> thanks much. still ahead "today in the bay," the giants back together for the first time in months, take you to scottsdale. >> a new recall possibly tainted beef making its way into hot pockets. what you need to look for.

looking at downtown san jose. 4:44. hard to believe it's that time of year again. in a few hours the entire giants squad will be in arizona gearing up for the 2014 season. >> comcast sport net gives us a peek and a look at one of the team's new additions. >> reporter: here in scottsdale, arizona reporting with the  giants. here is a rundown so far and what's coming up. already the pitchers and catchers have been with in scottsdale for a couple days getting workout. the pitchers have thrown the bull pen sessions including tim hudson coming off an ankle injury. coming up later today around noon all of the position players are going to report to camp. coming up tonight at 6:00, we're going to have that video for you, plus we're going to talk with madison bumgarner, just 24 years old he is back and trying to improve on what was an all-star season for him. that's coming up later today reporting here from scottsdale, arizona with the giants.

>> thank you much. new this morning more concern over tainted food. beef from a now shuttered petaluma company may have made its way into hot pockets. the usda recalled more than 8.5 million pounds of beef from the company because it was produced without the required inspection. the petaluma meatpacker has since shut down. the products recalled include philly steak and cheese, three different pack sizes, and hot pocket brand croissant. it could ab25 billion deal, a drug maker is in talks to buy

its rival forest laboratories. with that and the rest of the news it's hampton pearson. good morning. >> how you doing, scott. the futures which are mixed as markets are coming off their best week of the year. the rally fueled by comments from the new fed chair and a rise in commodity prices looking for data later today on housing and earnings from coca-cola, the dow closing up 126 points to close 16,164, the nasdaq to close. a major merger in the drug sector. reportedly in talks to buy a rival forest labs up to $25 billion, a combined company would offer a wide range of generic and brand name drugs. kick starter the latest to be the target of hackers. the site said this weekend no credit card information was

compromised but hackers did get access to user names, encrypted pass words and mailing addresses and phone numbers. kick starter is urging users to change passwords. have a great day. >> you too. >> let's check in with christina. she has look at the forecast. a lot of kids off. >> a lot off for ski week, 4:48 now taking a live look, a clear start here over the bay bridge. what you can't see from this dark sky is we have plenty of low clouds over the bay area this morning. a little bit of drizzle so take it easy. i don'ts think you need to add extra time for your commute. ski week sin full effect so a lot of kids have the week off. 68 in the east bay. we're at 66 degrees later on today in beautiful san jose. we do have a little bit of shower activity making its way into the bay area tonight. you can see that. just after midnight, front starts to move in. i think we'll see a prefrontal precipitation especially in the north bay.

as we head through 3:30 a.m. before we meet here for "today in the bay" looks like a little shower activity, even the south bay and then the whole thing is out of here by tomorrow afternoon. but maybe another six inches of fresh powder to tahoe. we're looking pretty good. if you are, make sure you bring chains just in case. north star under 6 feet a. solid base in tahoe. sierra at tahoe, 5 1/2 feet and looking good at squaw, kirkwood and heavenly. we'll keep you updated, talk more about the showers but the big news is, if you've been missing the beach weather, it comes back as of this weekend. i'll show you which beaches will be best for your outdoor plans. back to you, scott and laura. >> six people were hurt when 40 cars and trucks crashed during what drivers call white-out conditions in michigan last night. officials say more than half of the vehicles were big rigs,

roughly 20 miles west of kalamazoo. the crash started when a semi jackknifed and another slammed into it. >> investigators in boise released surveillance video on a city bus that crashed into a building. well, i don't see the building but there are the trees, some cars, some bushes, more trees, wow. the crash happened last month but investigators just released the video this week. the bus was carrying eight passengers when it veered onto the sidewalk as you saw, clipped all kinds of trees, light poles, a building apparently at the end. the driver was drowsy, he had his eyes closed. he has been charged with negligent driving. nobody was hurt. >> frightening video. still ahead, in case you missed

the red, white machine is canadian, looks like any other. it doesn't take coins or cash or credit cards. instead athletes insert their canadian passport and the machine dispenses a canadian beer. those who use it say it's a great way to have a little piece of home while thousands of miles away. oh, to be a canadian. >> i love it. >> so a lot of people remember the 1993 movie cool running, one of the characters kisses a lucky egg before flying down the track. yesterday as you saw no different for the 2014 jamaican bobsled team. the egg did not get them a medal as the team finished in last place. a big ovation from the crowd.

and killed a suspect. >> this is not the first time officers have been called to the home on peso grande parkway. bob, what are you hearing? >> reporter: good morning to you. the sheriff's office telling us that they have been to this home many, many times since 2011, exactly 19 times in that time. last night around 11:00 they were called out after a visit from an emt crew, an ambulance crew. it was a medical call. during that call for whatever reason the emts, someone felt it was necessary to call for law enforcement. sheriff deputies showed up and there was some sort of confrontation with a person in the home. at least one of the deputies shot and killed this person. this taking place around 11:00 last night. a neighbor telling one of our photographerha
