and killed a suspect. >> this is not the first time officers have been called to the home on peso grande parkway. bob, what are you hearing? >> reporter: good morning to you. the sheriff's office telling us that they have been to this home many, many times since 2011, exactly 19 times in that time. last night around 11:00 they were called out after a visit from an emt crew, an ambulance crew. it was a medical call. during that call for whatever reason the emts, someone felt it was necessary to call for law enforcement. sheriff deputies showed up and there was some sort of confrontation with a person in the home. at least one of the deputies shot and killed this person. this taking place around 11:00 last night. a neighbor telling one of our photographers that they heard

six to eight gun shots. that person is now dead in that home behind me here on pa say yograndee. we're waiting for a public information officer to come out. we're wait forge him to give us a belter sense of what led up to this shooting. again this is a home where deputies had visited 19 times since 2011, for various issues, one being at least one of those times domestic violence. one person shot and killed in this home by an alameda county sheriff's deputy last night. you can see the scene behind me the light is shining on the home and there are plenty of deputies out here. we're assuming we're waiting for the coroner and perhaps homicide detectives to process the scene. reporting live in san lorenzo, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. >> flags across the state in half staff in honor of two chp officers killed in the line of duty. the officers, 34-year-old brian law and 33-year-old juan

gonzalez were partners and friends with ties to the bay area. gonzalez and law were responding to the scene of a crash near fresno when they swerved to avoid the wreckage. they slammed into a guardrail. both died at the scene. law start independent oakland and is survived by a wife and three children. gonzalez worked in san jose before eventually being transferred to fresno. >> the firefighter accused of sexually abusing a teen and selling drugs could enter a plea in court today. mario was arrested last week for reportedly abusing a 17-year-old boy and selling methamphetamine to children he melt on line. he has worked for the san jose fire department for 20 years, now on unpaid leave pending an investigation. he was also very involved at st. leo the great parish in san jose. federal officials are looking into whether there was interaction between he and the children who go to the children next door.

>> new this morning a voluntary recall from the maker of the popular snack hot pockets. beef found in the philly steak and cheese brands not properly inspected before hitting the freezer. peggy bunker joins us with more details including how a bay area slaughter house is tied to that recall. >> good morning. this really is bad news for the already troubled rancho feeding corporation of petaluma who recently recalled 9 million pounds of beef. the recall is affecting the popular hot pocket t company tries to protect its consumers from the bad beef. nestle's didn't purchase it directly from rancho corporation but some made it to the food assembly plant. that one is in chatsworth. the plant is devoted entirely to hot pockets so they are issuing this recall for certain hot pockets that could have the bad beef. here are the specifics incation

you have some of these. hot pockets philly steak and cheese in the 9 ounce size, philly steak and cheese in the 54 ounce size, crust philly steak and cheese in the two pack box. they have a consumer services number set up, 1-800-392-4057. also you can take that back to the store for a full refund. let's talk about that petaluma plant that processed the meat. this could be their undoing. rancho feeding corporation has shut down beef production while a federal investigation looks into processing of sick and dtzed animals, the plant operated without federal inspections of the meat which is required. as we mentioned almost 9 million pounds of beef are part of the recall, that's near lay year's worth of production. extended shutdowns can put a plant out of business. >> thank you very much. >> we do have breaking news that we want to bring you coming from

indianapolis this morning. chopper headed to the scene where we understand a woman as she was dropping off her child at a daycare, a kinder care, she was shot eight times. she is still alive and she was able to tell police that it was her ex-husband who was the shooter. he fled on foot. he is still on the loose. our chopper is headed to the scene. it's a kinder care in west indianapolis, the child is said to be fine, all the children fine but the woman shot eight times is headed to the hospital. suspect still is on the loose. one we're following this morning. >> skyland high school in oakland will be closed today so workers can repair a gas line that ruptured yesterday. nobody has been hurt but oakland unified school district employees say the work should be done by tonight and the school will open tomorrow. >> a golden moment for the americans in ice dancing.

and those clouds cling to the coastline we see pretty big temperature differences. so 66 degrees in san jose for today. los gatos 65, 66 in gilroy versus the low 60s, you'll see enough sunshine to warm to 64 degrees out there. clouds will increase throughout day, first showers expected by about 7:00 p.m., very light. mostly in sonoma county. the north bay, 66 degrees for santa rosa, east bay good, low 60s for you, in the tri-valley what a treat today, living up to the name at 68 degrees. so, subtle changes, the showers move in overnight. i'll time that out in my next report. i want to show you the weather story, that's a warming trend into this weekend. we'll be at 70 degrees in the south bay as of this friday. now take a listen to this. there is a pirate ship in town today in san francisco. you and your family can hop on board for free. where and when in my next rorpt and the weather you can expect across bay area. first here is mike and your

drive. >> they say it's free but they don't tell you where they are taking you. we're looking here toward the south bay on northbound 101 with the headlights under 680, good volume of traffic. this is a traffic tuesday. we shouldn't see as heavy a flow owe specially in the south bay. a lot of the school district is off this week. then other districts like in the east bay, some schools had monday off. we'll see commute around the bay. a smooth flow for san jose. northbound 680, past calaveras we had an incident. there is an officer and a car on the shoulder. a little slowing past the scene at jacqueline. in toward sunol. the tri-valley your commute direction look likes a smooth drive, all the greens, but slowing into livermore. looking toward oakland with a smooth flow, north past the coliseum to the bay bridge toll plaza back to you. >> thanks, mike.

broke out. everyone but the dog got out. a neighbor's home was damaged. the cause is under investigation. >> google branching out in san francisco. according to the financial times, google has leased a location on alabama street near 16th street in the mission. while google would not comment the financial times believes the space was leased to house engineers who don't want to make the commute to the company's headquarters in mountain view. >> to the sochi games, russia getting ready for the closing ceremony. russia's president prime minister promises there will not be a repeat of the glitch when one of the snowflakes didn't open. they were supposed to expand to form the olympic rings, but the sixth one didn't want to do it. the closing ceremony is on sunday night. >> i saw guys selling t-shirts that have that. >> it's historic now. >> let's join christina loren. >> the morning is still young, scott and laura.

good morning to you. 5:15. temperatures are pretty chilly. we're at 44 in the south bay, east bay at 44 as well. so you want to bring that jacket with you. in the north bay we expect steady drizzle by the time you leave work sow might want to grab that umbrella. 64 degrees in the north bay. 61 later in san francisco, south bay at 66 degrees. let's talk a little about the showers we expect. the front as you can see here we stop the clock at 1:00 a.m., still pretty well organized at that point as the showers move into the north bay. then the thing breaks apart as per usual by about 4:00 a.m. i think we're going to get light activity in the south bay. so mostly cloudy down in the south bay. as we head throughout tomorrow, clearing out by about 2:30. i think we're going to get pretty good snowfall. maybe additional six inches up in tahoe. let's talk a little about your microclimate differences. look at us, we're going to get in the 70s in the south bay. the next couple days i want to tell you about something

and welcome back. another big day at the olympic games. >> lots of action in the mountain cluster today featuring several northern california athletes. that's where we find janelle wang braving the rain out there. doing okay? >> reporter: i'm hanging in there. it's a bit chilly. it's in the 30s which is a little cooler. but it's raining all day today. this is the main plaza of the mountain cluster. my photographer mike is going to zoom in, the iconic clock tower. two years ago this wasn't here, now it's restaurants and hotels.

the place is buzzing with activity especially during the olympics. the other story we're buzzing about is gus kenworthy, the silver medalist in slopestyle free skate. he was supposed to be home but she the one who adopted a pack of stray dogs and their mother. according to a denver station he has delayed his trip so he can make sure his pack of puppies and their mom receive all their vaccinations and get all of the paperwork so they can fly back to colorado with him. so they are working on that. other athletes are following his lead, david backus tweeting hey, wondering what vet you are working with in sochi. a bunch of us hockey guys would like to get some dogs back as well. thanks. and lindsay instagrammed out this photo of the dog she will return home w. we have seen lots of stray dogs around but all have been friendly and we actually uncovered you can tell

which ones are strays and which ones have homes. they just are unlike the united states where we have our dogs on a leash and keep them in the house. these dogs roam around and if they go back home. all very friendly. a live picture of the mountain cluster. this is where five venues take place. the skiing, the snowboarding and the sliding event. so as you can see a lot of people out and about. a lot of people were in the mountains. they are heading here and to the bars and restaurants. they are so packed today it's like very, very full. it's a lot of fun too. coming up we'll give you a preview, a big competition for our athletes and also reno's david wise, superstar on the half-pipe. more on that later. janelle wang, "today in the bay." >> i know the security was a concern early on. this is your first move up to the mountains, right.

was it fairly easy? >> reporter: yes, actually once you're in olympic park and you've been like you got through security and your credentials it's pretty safe. you can get up easily. we've been up here a couple times. we did a story on that. the two main ways is by bus, mostly for the media and journalists and olympic officials and the athletes. they have these credentials that get on these olympic secured buses, then also the train. but you have to have a spectator pass, basically you have to be going to a venue and people have also been screened on line so it's very safe and secure. it's a beautiful rail system. it cost over $7 billion to build the roadway and railway up to the mountain cluster about 30 miles away. a lot of security here. got to go through check points and metal detectors. so everybody is safe and secure so far. back to you. >> thanks so much.

thanks for joining us. it's 5:30. >> we have an update to breaking news out of the east bay a. san lorenzo neighborhood is blocked off while officials investigate a shooting involving a sheriff's deputy. bob just got an update. he joins us live in san lorenzo. officials have been to the home numerous times before. >> reporter: and last night was the 19th and perhaps final time. good morning to you, laura. this happened in the 100 block of paseo grande. at the house a man who lives here according to the sheriff's office, attacked the sergeant with a baseball bat, results in him being shot by the sergeant and another deputy. i'll guive you a lay of the lan b. with 10:00, it was a medical call, an ambulance called out to treat this man t man was in the ambulance outside the home for whatever reason became combative, assaulted one of the e.t. test, ran back inside.

they called for a code 3 cover which basically means we need law enforcement out here asap to help us. the sheriff's office arrived. they knew that the man was inside the home. his wife was on property, whether she was inside or out that part is not clear. when they went inside it was a sergeant and four deputies, they went to look for the man, the sergeant had his rifle drawn. that's when they say this man attacked. >> you can imagine this is always a difficult situation for law enforcement. you're going into somebody's house, you're not familiar with the house and that person is familiar with their house so. that's the situation that was presented last night. and he comes out, violently attacks the sergeant, hitting him with a baseball bat and attempting to hit him again. that's when shots were fired. >> reporter: when the man hit the sergeant with the bat he did force the sergeant to drop his

rifle. that's when the sergeant drew his handgun and another deputy also drew their handgun and shot and killed this man our understanding is maybe there were several shots fired. he is dead inside now. the detectives who arrived on scene, they have been waiting to get a search warrant so they go back inside and continue the investigation. the sergeant was hit in the arm. he is going to be okay. he is being interviewed by his colleagues and the wife, she's being interviewed and according to the sheriff's office is being cooperative. it's not clear why this man became combative. this was the 19th time since 2011 that the sheriff's office has been out here for various issues including domestic violence. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> quite a few calls there. thank you so much. >> new details about a deadly hit and run. police are investigating it as a homicide.

it report lid started as a fight at the capitol flea market, as many as a dozen were kicked out after an argument on sunday. the fight continued. one man drove his car into the crowd killing this man, eric vallejo. two others were hurt. police are still looking for the driver. >> officers are looking for two men who led them on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. it started about 8:00 when a park service ranger saw a man trying to break into a car. he jumped into a black mercedes and took off hitting two parked ranger cars. then trying to cross the bridge he rear ended another car and two men jumped out and ran away. officers are searching from the fort point area into the residential areas of the presidio. >>new this morning a volume recall from the maker of the popular microwave snack hot

all day. we took the gondola up to the higher elevation and there is wet snow, not affecting competition at all. now we're going to show you what mikey shot on sunday when he was here when it was beautiful and sunny. take a look at these views. gorgeous conditions. one of the most picturesque places to be in sochi. such a stunning place. they have all of these gondolas. we'll tell you about competition today. reno's david wise, he's in the half-pipe free skiing competition, a new event making its debut. he is the gold medal favorite, he is an x games champion at 23. we followed him in breckenridge at the olympic trials. this guy gets serious air. you know what, he is also a doting father of a 2-year-old girl and a wife that he just adores and loves.
