that's all i can see. i need one that goes like that. it is too late now. so don't even fax me, text me on call my grandmother, i know. >> i had a great, great weekend. my friend karen -- >> your best friend. >> her husband john and daughter catherine were all here. we came to the "today" show because what else is there to do? that was them posing with al and carson outside. >> a lot chillier on friday morning. >> i taught catherine how to do the -- we went to cinderella and i taught her the -- we went to cinderella, which, by the way, if you have a young daughter, niece, somebody, good friend, that thing blows those kids away. when cinderella spins from her dress in rags and winds up miraculously in a ball gown, you literally hear a collective gasp in the audience. it was such a great -- >> william ivy long won the tony for that. that is broadway magic.

good for him. >> how was yours? >> well, mine was unbelievably packed. you can hear my voice, i am -- this is the best reason in the world to be hoarse. i laughed and cried all weekend long. i'll take my favorite thing because it was part of my weekend. on friday night, some new friends of mine, the clarks from australia, invited me to go to a dinner -- >> say it. >> at hugh jackman and deborra-lee furness' home. you talk about pinch yourself. i met hugh many times through the years and he's the most generous, most gentlemanly star there is. just no one quite like him. he's kind to everybody. so i already loved him. then i met deborra, who had been sick and still got out of a sick bed and greeted everybody so beautifully. i can't say what the dinner was about, because they're going to be announcing it at the united nations. probably in the fall. but leave it at this. there are apparently 143 million

children without families, orphans in this world. if you put them all together in one place, it would be the ninth biggest nation. they have a plan for that. and they have hearts big enough to actually accomplish it. so i was not only pinching myself, but they so reminded me of paul newman who many of us were blessed to know, who really totally understood the concept of if much is given, much is required. he used every ounce of his celebrity to make the world a better place and raise hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars. every penny went to newman's own. i was honored. >> the other thing you pointed out was how hugh jackman looks at his wife. you were talking about this in the makeup room. >> we all went around the table and said why we were there. i said, i don't know why i'm here. i'm just blessed. but he stood up and basically

eating episode and she looked into the mirror and out loud said, this is ridiculous. i have to stop behaving like this. this was her a-ha moment. she jumped into action, she downloaded that app, my fitness pal, she started tracking all the foods she ate, she gave herself a caloric range of 1200 to 1500 calories, committed to three days a week of exercise, and she's about to walk out, half her size. started at 265. she's 130-ish now. she's unbelievable. >> step on out, brit. >> oh, my god! >> no. >> whose picture did you use? >> are you serious? >> hi. >> you look awesome. >> thank you. thank you. >> one of the cool things i wanted to show you is we talk a

lot about weight loss success and variety of foods. she's done just the opposite. i think that repeating what you eat is helpful for a lot of people because it is safe, it is comfortable, you know what you're getting and it removes tempting options. >> guilt. >> everyone must be freaking out? >> right. >> she has a green smoothie in the morning. for lunch, a turkey wrap with lettuce, apples and carrots and makes this delicious ratatouille chicken concoction with brown rice. >> okay. andrew is 41 years old, from danvers, massachusetts. at heaviest, 385 pounds in this picture. i think a lot of guys will relate to this. he played football in high school. so he was big and strapping. he was overweight, but kind of works. >> depending what position you're playing, it works. >> exactly. when he graduated, he no longer played football, he continued to eat -- >> the way he did as a player. >> right. and he gained an exorbitant amount of weight.

he's a paramedic. he was on the ambulance, he got an emergency call, there was a patient, an obese man was stuck in a basement apartment. him and his three partners on the ambulance had to get this man up on to a stretcher and up a flight of stairs into the ambulance. and andrew could hardly do it. he was gasping, he was weak and he realized at that moment that not only was his own health at risk, so was the patients' health as well. >> here is andrew's before picture. >> all right, andrew. come join us. >> and, by the way, he's single. >> single? >> single. >> are you -- well -- >> come on over. my goodness. >> he did it through jenny craig because it was easy for him, meals were delivered, he worked with the consultant and they taught him how to do everything. >> we want to say congrats to the joy fit members. great job. coming up, you have to have a sense of humor to work for her demanding boss.

i've had a lot of disappointment in my life and i thought, i'm going to write how not to book. bring it on. >> you're honest about the fact you were self-sabotaging your own success. >> absolutely. >> in many ways. >> absolutely. you know, i think i was addicted to being a victim. and also went to worst case scenario. so it is a language that you're taught to speak when you grow up. i grew up in a loving, great family, but critical and i think that they made me who i am today and i'm very proud but i wanted to help people to have -- be able to speak a different language. >> when jeff berates you or -- how do you react to that inside or do you think it is just part of the shtick and part of the show? >> you know, i changed. and that's part of the book. i used to take it more personally. and it has been a ride, but i think my life, when i embrace failure, you know, and really

said i'm going to take responsibility, i'm going to own it rather than put it on him or the situation, it is very freeing. and we are a dysfunctional family. >> everyone is. >> it is. >> it is a partnership. it is a marriage, anything, it is a lot of work. you have to hang on and enjoy the ride. >> yeah. she said during her life as an actress how she would not prepare for your auditions and things and think, i got this, i got this. >> and the thing i would say to young people out there is work, don't worry. that's a whole chapter in the book. it is about the work. that's what you can control. so work hard. and you'll get to what you want to do. and also maybe you're not in this perfect job that you want to be in, but do the best you can and you will go forward. >> it will lead to the next one. >> one of the things you work at is rap. >> our a rap singer. >> yes. >> my very first favorite rap star. >> you didn't like "rapper's
