lots to get to. let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you, laura and scott. everybody at home. changes in the forecast starting today. right now it's mild out there. we have near record warmth as of this afternoon and then we bring in potential for 90-degree weather as we head through the next few days. i'm going to tell you coming up. right now we bring in mike inouye. >> good morning. spring forward into the next season is what happened on sunday. looking here, a look at the bay bridge. we have cameras shaking. it's our emeryville camera. we get an idea of the wind. chp issued a wind advisory. it means at time there is may abgust or two. christina says it's not sustained so it's not a big problem right now but we'll track that on the live shot and our maps. a little slowdown as you approach the toll plaza. 25 miles per hour. as you head across the san mateo

bridge reports of debris around the toll plaza. i didn't see problems but we'll track that and i'll show you the live camera. i wanted to show you the bay is moving smoothly. nothing unexpected. a couple of road crews as well. back to you. >> we're following developing news in the search for the malaysian airlines jet that vanished. in the past two hours police released the first pictures of the two men traveling on stole were passports. investigators have identified one man as an iranian national. bob redell following details overnight in the newsroom with the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police released those photos a at news conference that wrapped up not long ago. here is the image of one of the men, a 19-year-old from iran. police identified him, his ticket was purchased in thailand. his final destination was supposed to be frank further, germany where his mother was

waiting. she has spoke within police and police are convinced her son was not involved in the disappearance of flight 370. >> we believe that he is not likely to be a member of any terrorist group. and we believe that he is trying to migrate to germany. >> reporter: this is the image of the other man traveling on a stolen passport. also from iran. police have identified him. he is 29 years old. they also point out that neither of these iranian passports -- their iranian passports reported stolen or listed, why they didn't come up during border patrol checks. for an earlier statement there were five that checked in but did not board, police say that is not true. there were four passengers, however, who booked a flight but never checked in and never

checked bags. the search area for the aircraft has expanded to include land in militia and the waters on the country's western coastline. malaysian police say they are looking at four possible explanations for what caused flight 370 to disappear. one, hijacking, 2, sabotage, 3, psychological problems with the passengers and cry and personal problems among passengers and crew. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> there is a big question emerging in the disappearance of this flight in this day and age of technology. why is it so hard to find a missing plane. it was last seen on radar over the south china sea. experts say all flights beyond 120 miles off shore use gps, then communicate the coordinates to controllers on the ground. but for many routes around the world the gap between communication can be as long as an hour. >> the reality is these

airplanes are operating all parts of the world with varying technology and getting the data back to controllers is difficult. >> so not only is it difficult to pinpoint where the plane may have hit the water, it's difficult to estimate how far it may have traveled after that. >> it can glide a long way under the water to a different location. they don't go straight down with currents and a lot of stuff it can cover a lot of distance before it settles. >> even if the plane's black box is emerged it will emit a pinging. the problem is the ping doesn't travel far so it's possible crews have simply not gotten close enough yet. >> "today in the bay" follow-up, a fremont little league team rebuilding one more time after an intentionally set fire to one of its facilities, this is a burned out shell what if was the team's new score booth on the warm springs elementary school campus. it was just built because the team's previous score booth was burned down in december. firefighters say the booth,

classroom at james leech elementary school, and a bathroom at warm springs park were all intentionally set on fire but they will not go so far as to say a serial arsonist is on the loose. >> prosecutors calling it mistaken identity, they say theodore, a registered sex offender resting as a woman is not the same person who was seen at a south peninsula hebrew day school. he was arrested in january for being a registered sex offender on school property but turns out it was not lorigo. the charges are being dropped. he pleaded guilty having a fake i.d., officials say he had changed his i.d. to reflect his self-selected female name without going through the government. >> the san jose council will discuss a possible pilot program to put some of the south bay's homeless up in motels. the plan is to lease vacant motel rooms to shelter homeless while nonprofits help them find

jobs and permanent housing. it costs about $1 million a year to house 60 people. city leaders will talk about the problem but probably not vote on it yet. >> san jose's land marks commission will meet to talk whether to save one of the iconic buildings. century 21, one of the dome movie theaters is set to shut down the end of the month. a couple of months before its 50th birthday. the fans not letting it go without a fight. the preservation action council collected 5400 signatures and is urging the council to save the theater. they hope the historic landmarks commission will add it to the list of historic places. two other domed theaters increase tree 22 and there 3 are scheduled to close down march 31. >> some of the top officials will tour a bay area water facility in hopes of getting a better idea how to deal with the drought. secretary of the interior sally jewel along with federal, state and local officials headed to a

pumping plant. they will discover how the state water is stored and maintained. after the tour officials plan to talk to the media about the federal and state response to the severe lack of water. >> san jose firefighters plan to fix leaky faucets and turn off sprinklers at fire stations to conserve it hopes to cut back by 20%. instead of using hoses to wash driveways they will sweep instead. firefighters will use as much water as it takes to put out fires and save lives. but they say whatever they can do at the station to cut back they will do it. >> we are just people. okay. when we go home we're going to conserve at our home so it's only right we as a family in the stations which we consider our second home that we do the same. >> 11 fire stations in san jose have rain sensors systems where sprinklers shut down when it begins to rain. >> just like the rest of us. that's a good idea.

as we said earlier they are going to use water to fight fires. >> let's hope there's not a lot of them. going to feel like a fire. things are warming up. >> we're really going to warm up. good morning. temperature this is morning are already pretty warm in san francisco at 58 degrees, 49 in concord, 55 in oakland and we're kicking off your tuesday, a traffic tuesday in fact. 54 degrees in mountain view. we'll check on the drive with mike. for this morning all you really need to worry about it's pretty windy through the east bay hills. it's looking pretty good, the wind is going to relax. a little patchy fog, drizzle at the coast all going to be gone by about 9:00 a.m. and then we have a day today with temperatures rising 10 to 15 degrees above average. it's going to be about 5 degrees warmer than yesterday. yesterday was a pretty warm day as we head throughout this evening the sun will set at about 7:12. temperatures today are going to be comfortable. mid-70s. 72 degrees in the south bay, the

peninsula 72. temperatures in the tri-valley reaching into the upper 70s today. east bay city at 74, 69 in san francisco, and 72 degrees in the north bay for today. we do have rain in the forecast, we're going to have to wait on it but i'll talk about that coming up in my next report. let's check your drive and say good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. we're having a traffic tuesday but it's time change traffics to so this first one folks have to adjust. surprisingly impact for a little slower for folks driving darker than they expect. we expect to the be dark now. it's 4:40. the san mateo bridge, debris approaching the toll plaza. doesn't sound like a big deal. the speed sensors on the map don't show problems. typical slowdown as you approach the fast track lanes, paying cash toll as well. a nice drive off the castro valley y, that bay looking good, pretty close to the limit except for slower spots. we had slowing for a couple

pistorius fired a shot in a restaurant. another witness said he was present when pistorius shot his gun out of the roof of a car after an altercation with police in 2012. earlier in the day at the trial the pathologist who conducted an autopsy on reeva steenkamp took the stand and described the gunshot wounds to her body. pistorius says he thought his ex-girlfriend was an intruder when he shot her. prosecutors say it was premeditated murder. >> a professional hockey player will undergo more testing after he collapsed on the bench in the middle of a game. about six minutes into last night's game rich peverley slumped over. he was rushed to the hospital for a cardiac condition. 31-year-old has a history of heart issues, peverley was alert in the ambulance, even asking if he could get back in the game. the players on both teams shaken up. the nhl suspended the game. >> congress starting an

investigation into the faulty ignition switch involving more than a million general motors cars. could federal investigators have done more to prevent 13 deaths linked to the problem? at this point it's not clear that federal government did anything. seema mody live with more details. good morning. >> good morning. the house energy and commerce committee will reportedly launch a probe and hearings into general motors' recall of 1.6 million vehicles worldwide. the recall tied to faulty ignition switches that can shut off and disable air bags, linked to 13 deaths. lawmakers will examine the slow response of gm and regulators, the committee chairman was the sponsor of the last safety regulation passed by congress, the tread act of 2000 in response to the ford fire stone tire recall. a check of the market, futures are lore after stocks posted modest losses, investors reacting to some disappointing economic data out of china.

cloudy. now we return to beach weather. 65 degrees right now at oakland, a gorgeous start, cool and mostly clear, a little patchy fog along the coast. it's breezy through the hills, all that wind is going to continue to relax throughout the day. we're on our way to unseasonably warm temperatures. typically in san jose we hit about 66 degrees this time of year. today more like 72. and we're going to keep on climbing. temps are going to drop quickly. once that sun starts to set, it starts to get dark our temps start to drop off. so again cools pretty quickly in the evening if you are headed out and about keep a light sweater or jacket in your vehicle. always a good idea. 69 in san francisco, 74 in the east bay, and 72 degrees in the south bay. it's only just begun. i'll tell where we're expecting the 90s in my next report. back to you, scott and laura. >> three years after the

devastating earthquake and tsunami in japan, more than 130,000 people still can't live in their homes. radiation from the fukushima power plant means children can only spend 15 minutes outside each day, but still many schools continue to keep the kids inside around the clock. many people attended memorials around japan today to mark three years. others marked the day by taking part in emergency evacuation and food distribution drills. at home the group no nooks action will protest at the japanese consulate. they blame tokyo electric power for refusing to take responsibility for the meltdown. the protest will be at the japanese consulate, beginning at 3:00 with speeches followed bay march to yoon yoon square. >> a study suggests what thaen scientists suggested. bigger women have a greater risk of ovarian cancer. the study comparing 4 million women was just released.

the american cancer society and the national cancer institute listed obesity as a suspected cause of the cancer. but the new report says women do not have to be obese, the risk begins growing in overweight women as well. >> two districts working to improve education. the san jose community college district and the milpitas unified school district will present the 21st century education center in a joint meeting. it will be the first of its kind in silicon valley offering community college courses to parents and working adults and high school students. the college district plans to use $10 million in bond money in milpitas. >> it's 4:50. the iditarod race hours from the finish. >> we're looking -- they moved. we had a truck below that green sign. it was stopped in the middle of

jose, that black line that's the overpass for 680 on to northbound 280. there was a tow truck stop forward a few minutes. i zoomed in. and they moved right before we took the camera. good news the truck is gone. no slowing through the area and no incidents reported where that arrow is for chp so we have a smooth flow throughout the south bay. note the sharkses and shapele leafs face off tonight so that will be traffic through downtown. really that's about it going on for the incidents on the bay area roadways. smooth flow of traffic. there is the north bay. the southbound side you have a good flow. a good number of cars heading south out of novato and petal a petaluma. that's northbound 101. there are two cars northbound. back to you. >> you know it's light when you can count. >> 4:56. part of the california coast about to be named a national park by president obama. >> more aftershocks after that
