can see the hazy skies from the east bay over towards san francisco and some locations downright chilly, los gatos to 41 degrees and 46 in san jose and east bay temperatures mostly in the mid-40s. dublin, 47, but the north bay waking up to some 30s this morning from lacks spur up towards santa rosa and calistoga for the morning. and the coast low clouds mist around at times and the clouds will spill inland by 7:00 this evening. and your travel forecast the coast is chilly, and yosemite 67 drotion and snow is back in the seven-day forecast for the sierra and the rain coming back. and we'll let you know the timing in the full forecast. we begin with a developing story out of san francisco this morning where officers are a administrative leave after an evening walk in the park turns deadly. bernal heights park was with a scenic view became a crime scene

after people reported a man with a gun around 7:00. an sfpd spokesperson said when officers responded they encountered that suspect and that's when the shooting happened. >> we're not absolutely sure what occurred up here, but it does appear that he drew that weapon and officers responded and shot him. he's dead at the scene. >> police were able to recover a gun at the scene and we're told that police chief greg sir will hold a community meeting next week in the bernal heights neighborhood addressing this police involved shooting and any other concerns that residents might have. new this morning another shooting in san francisco overnight has a man fighting for his life. police say they found a man shot in the torso at least once near the art academy at the intersection of sutter and taylor streets just after 2:00 this morning. they say he was shot by another man who jumped out of a stolen mercedes. the victim who is in the hospital is in serious condition. so far, though, no one is under arrest.

case closed in that postgame brawl near at&t park where a dodgers fan was killed after a giants game. san francisco district attorney george gascone will not file charges against michael montgomery. prosecutors did not have enough evidence nor could they reject the claim that montgomery acted in self-defense. this is the victim jonathan denver, he was wearing dodgers gear when he got into a fight with montgomery last september after the giants/dodgers game. witnesses say denver and his brother teamed up against montgomery and police say the brothers were bigger and heavier than him. at one point montgomery used his knife. denver's family say they are disappointed with this decision. two women are in jail where they are living better than the three children they're accused of abusing. investigators found the children in the salinas home abused and starved to the point that the sheri sheriff's spokes said one of the children looked like a victim from a concentration camp.

both the women who are in jail pleaded not guilty to charges against them. investigators say they found an 8-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy living in what they described as deplorable conditions in that salinas home. one of the two women arrested is the biological mother of the 3-year-old boy. the girl and the 5-year-old boy were adopted. officials say the kids were starved and sometimes chained to a wall. >> the little girl, the 8-year-old, was from time to time chained to the wall in the residence and was denied food. she was extremely emaciated. she's been described as someone who looked like she'd been in a concentration camp. they're all malnourished. >> all three children are in foster care. the women will be back in court on wednesday. well, this hit-and-run crash sounded like a train wreck neighbors say. the driver was lucky to walk away from the crash but when he tried to run from the scene, officers arrested him. according to police, one car

slammed into the other at the intersection of good year and sherman streets around 7:30 just west of spartan stadium. neighbors say they saw smoke from one of those cars. police say the victims two girls suffered from cuts and bruises because of that crash. the driver now faces hit-and-run charges. well, was it a prank or was it a dare? either way, 14-year-old dublin student was arrested for allegedly calling in three bomb threats to schools in montana. investigators say the 14-year-old dublin high school student started making the bomb threats on monday. in all three cases he left messages one of them saying, hi, i just left backpacks with c-4 at the elementary school and i'm about to blow them up. who's laughing now? 9,000 students and staff were evacuated yesterday because of that threat. the dispatcher was able to capture a phone number that led police and the fbi to magic jack a computer gentlemen rated telephone service.

>> it's still under investigation. and we think there may be some connections here in helena that this 14-year-old juvenile in california had. >> now, the 14-year-old was arrested at his own high school, dublin high, yesterday and according to court records the boy has confessed telling authorities that he hatched a plan with a 16-year-old in helena, montana, while playing xbox. a huge settlement for this violent response from oakland police. the city agreed to pay this iraq war veteran $4.5 million for permanently injourg him. officers fired a beanbag bullet at scott olsen back in october of 2011 during the occupy protest. his lawyer says that beanbag fractured his skull leaving him with irreversible brain damage. >> i didn't win part of my brain back that's dead but, you know, i'm -- i -- you know, it's hard.

and it was a hard recovery process. >> oakland mayor jean quawnle said in the wake of that protest opd changed its crowd control policy and many officers were retrained. the city will pay $1.8 million. the city's insurance carrier will pay the rest. it is by far the largest payout linked to the occupy movement in oakland. the next largest payout was $645,000 which was paid to a man who suffered a rum tuptured spl. that adds up to more than $6.3 million from occupy-related lawsuits against oakland. yesterday marked five years since the darkest day in oakland police history. it was the day that a wanted parolee shot and killed four officers. officers mark dunikan, john

hege, irvervin romans died in 2. they marked the somber an versery and honor the officers. the man responsible for killing the officers was ultimately killed in a gun battle with police. request denied for a disgraced former san francisco i'm sorry who will head back to jail next week. ed ju will serve one year in county jail for lying for living in san francisco when he ran for office when he actually lived in burlingame. he's notified nearly five years in a federal prisons for other charges including extortion and bribery he was released earlier this year and his lawyers asked a judge to give him credit for time served in federal prison but the judge denied the request and now he'll go to jail. a when for some tenacious neighbors in san mateo who took on a 7-eleven store, this store on north san mateo drive opened two years ago but neighbors say it brought traffic and crime to

the area and they say it was located too close to homes there. turns out they were right on at least one count. after a two-year legal battle the city admitted that the permit for the store was approved by mistake in an area not zoned for that kind of business. >> it's a true david beats goliath kind of story where a group of people just sort of took on this monster corporation 7-eleven with all of their attorneys and all that sort of stuff and we were able to succeed. >> so now the store will close next week. the city will pay $150,000 to 7-eleven and the owner in a legal settlement since the city mistakenly approved their permit in the first place. still ahead on "today in the bay," a new image captured by satellite in the ongoing search for the malaysian airlines plane that van icial edshed two weeks. the new service on the peninsula that could lead to faster response times.

good morning to you. looking live at another view of san jose there. we see the iconic church in the distance and in san francisco another iconic view, of course, we see alcatraz and the it coco tower. a new development in the search for the missing malaysia jet. the malaysian transportation minister announced chinese satellite have spotted more floating objects. a chinese news agency seays it s about 80 miles from where australia spotted possible debris earlier this week. the malaysian transport minister said chinese ships are on their way to investigate the object to see if it is, in fact, debris from the missing plane. this news coming in the middle of the press conference and you can see the transport minister holding a note handed to him as he's facing the media.

>> the news that i just received is the chinese ambassador received satellite image of floating o ining objects in then corridor and they'll be sending ships to verify. they will announce it in a couple of hours. >> china's state tv aired a satellite image of what could be wreckage from that missing plane. chinese crews joining australian and american crews in the search for the malaysian flight that disappeared with 239 people on board two weeks ago. many of the passengers were from china. the ntsb showed that a seattle news helicopter began rotating before takeoff before it plunged to the ground. it pitched forward and fell from the helipad. the pilot and the camera man on board were both killed in tuesday's crash which happened near the space needle and right by the television station. a seattle man was also badly

burned when the helicopter fell on to his car. mount view, los altos and palo alto are teaming up. it means quicker response time but with a catch. "today in the bay's" joe rosato jr. shows us how the new approach could be the way of the future for public safety. >> reporter: this past wednesday fire ripped through a pair of mountain view homes. the blaze drew firefighters from across mountain view but also from nearby palo alto. the fire became the first big test for a brand-new computer dispatch system linking emergency communications for mountain view, palo alto, and los altos. >> for the fire departments they're able to track the apparatus that are available so a palo alto engine might respond to an emergency in mountain view and vice versa. >> reporter: the new system went online earlier this week following five years of planning. it's uniting the three city's

emergency communications all under one virtual roof. >> so, if we have incidents that are on our borders we can immediately access that, look at them. choose to respond on them. >> reporter: when police or fire emergencies pop up dispatchers plug them into the computer. gps mapping software then figures out which units are closest even if they're from other cities. >> under this system of gps you know right away you can dispatch the unit and it will get there faster. >> reporter: and first responders will always tell you seconds count in any emergency. >> most of the public's aware that public safety agencies always communicate the essence of time and importance for either catching criminals or doing cpr and saving lives. >> reporter: the new system is only a first step. the three cities eventually plan to join 911 call centers and field radio systems so that a call to one will be a call to all.

overnight snowe production that continues in the sierra, real snow will come back probably around tuesday afternoon but a quick check of the microclimates and a tour around the south bay, 45 degrees in sunny veil around the peninsula waking up to cool temperatures, low to mid-40s and 39 wood saad. closer to san francisco not seed by. 52 for soma, and around the tri-valley mid to upper 40s. patchy fog around the dublin grade this morning and in the north bay here's where the temperatures are really chilly, 30s to get things started here on this first weekend of spring. but temperatures will be climbing nicely once we get into the afternoon. winds right now still onshore somewhat. but not as strong as yesterday. so, this should mean our highs today will be running a little bit warmer except out on the coast where you'll have clouds getting in the way of the sunshine at times as we head through the afternoon and as we approach the evening, the low clouds fill back in and it does look like we'll see a mostly cloudy start to tomorrow morning as the clouds spill back across

the bay. for now things are dry. the weekend through monday will probably be the warmest day of the week. you see it there in the seven-day forecast. temperatures slowly creeping up for the beginning of next week. but by tuesday and wednesday the jet stream starts to buckle and drops down across northern california which will open up a chance for rain especially north. we're talking san francisco north for tuesday. then moving a little bit further south into wednesday. rainfall projections, again, in terms of the timing looks like as we get towards tuesday afternoon into wednesday, here comes a good chance of seeing light to moderate rain at times and then another system should follow as we head towards next weekend. now you're looking at next saturday and sunday. seeing a chance of rain. not for this weekend, though, again the chances start to increase again by tuesday for the week ahead. rainfall estimates not all that impressive. honestly as we get into march and into april, the amounts of rain we see from storms tend to drop off. so it's not unusual that a march system only brings this much rain but you'd like to see more than that. we should get a quarter nchl or so in the north bay and we hope

a few more inches of snow out towards the sierra by tuesday evening into wednesday. the south bay will see highs in the low 70s, mid-60s closer to san francisco. and low fil70s toward santa ros and napa. and monday could be the warmest day of the week especially out by pleasanton and livermore, upper 70s monday for much-needed rain and chance for sierra snow back into the picture by tuesday afternoon. kris? well, a mother finds a way to unlock her child's very special gift. >> there's a beauty in what he does and who he is. >> coming up on "today in the bay," the beautiful creation that will leave you bay area proud.

"today in the bay's" garvin thomas has her story. >> reporter: patty gay has been an artist for most of her life and a mother for half of it. still, it wasn't until later in her life that patty discovered a way to bring both those worlds together in the most beautiful of ways. >> there's a beauty in what he does and who he is and i want that to be seen. yeah, rock 'n' roll's in the backseat sometimes. >> reporter: he is noah patty's 22-year-old autistic son. noah is what autism experts call nonverbal. it means he can't tell you that he loves to help his mother in the grocery store. or loves to go for walks in the woods. >> yeah, it's so niles oce out .

we've had some warm days and now we're getting a little bit of coolness here in san jose. and all around the bay area this morning. thanks for joining us. i'm kris sanchez along with meteorologist rob mayeda. and a little chillier than i was expecting when i walked out this morning. >> the clear skies in san jose one of the spots waking up to the 40s. san francisco we got partly cloudy skies 50 right now in san francisco. now let's show you san jose. it is 46 degrees. partly cloudy skies around the peninsula and hazy skies there and 46 and a little bit of loaf clouds that have crept into the santa clara valley. cool start but by the afternoon the 40s should be getting closer to 70 degrees a little bit later on as we watch the onshore winds that have brought in coastal low clouds and fog. but look at the north bay temperatures, you think 40s are cold we got 30s around petaluma

and novato this morning and by the afternoon the temperatures should be climbing. look out for patchy fog there. santa rosa less than a half mile at times. and those low clouds will continue to be part of your weather story around half moon bay. no rain-producing clouds, those are way off to the north but we're going to see a chance of getting some rain in here as we approach tuesday and wednesday. we'll talk more about how much rain we're expecting with that pattern change ahead in the full forecast coming up in a few minutes. new developments in the search for the missing malaysian jet. right in the middle of an overnight press conference the transport minister learn that chinese satellites discover more floating objects in an area where the jet could have crashed. a chinese news agency reports the object measures 74 feet by 84 feet and is nearly 80 miles from where australia spotted similar debris earlier this week. they say the chinese ships are on their way to investigate whether the object is, in fact, debris from the missing plane.

damaged. no one was hurt, but we have learned that most of the church's records were destroyed. friction between president obama and facebook's mark zuckerberg prompted a white house meeting with bay area tech titans. a rare look for the facebook co-founder dressed in a suit and tie walking to the white house yesterday. the visit was reportedly sparked by a phone call last week by mark zuckerberg to the president criticizing the administration for moving too slowly to reform the nsa. along with zuckerberg the heads of drop box, netflix and google were there. this is president obama's second meeting in the last few months with high tech ceos about privacy concerns. trying to minimize damage during a tsunami. the santa cruz harbor will be one of five harbors in california to participate in a new program. harbors in san diego, long beach, ventura, and crescent city are also participating. the santa cruz harbor was damaged in the aftermath of the

2011 earthquake and tsunami in japan. the california geological survey is analyzing danger spots. the harbor in crescent city was also seriously damaged in 2011 and it has since undergone a $54 million rebuild. it is now the first port on the west coast to become resistant to tsunamis. so, how far can your electric car go? turns out it might depend on the weather. aaa found that freezing weather temperatures at 20 degrees reduced the distance that electric cars can travel by 57%. they tested the nissan leaf and the electric version of a ford focus. aaa found heat reduced the range of electric cars but not by as much as 57%. temperatures of 95 degrees reduced the electric car's driving range by 33%. the cars were tested in city driving. still ahead on "today in the

and good morning again. we're seeing patches of low clouds around san jose and a cool start to this first spring weekend morning here in the south bay. 46 degrees right now in san jose. north bay locations dropped off to the 30s and upper 40s in a few spots. show you some of those temperatures as we go state wide up towards the sierra. ne and san jose 46 degrees. santa clara valley mostly in the 40s but as you head up the peninsula looking at the numbers also in the 40s but near 40 to the upper 30s around woodside. san francisco not too chilly. just some patches of low clouds upper 40s to near 50 right now. should see highs climbing into the low 60s this afternoon. here you see out towards the tri-valley, upper 40s and patches of low clouds near dublin and santa rosa 40 degrees right now. still some 30s out there in the

north bay valleys. those numbers by 9:00 will slowly be getting out of the 30s and 40s on our way to 60s and 70s. the winds still somewhat onshore. you can see into fairfield and antioch winds out of the southwest and the marine air has come in and that will prevent the coast from getting too much sunshine to start the day. we'll get clearing at times and as we head back into the evening into tomorrow morning you can see the fog spilling up through the carquinez strait and the altamont pass tomorrow morning. almost a summerlike pattern where the fog sweeps back in as we approach the evening and overnight. for now things are dry but we'll start to see changes on tuesday and wednesday as the jet stream drops to the south. south enough to get the north bay some rain by tuesday afternoon and then probably the rest of the bay area. we're talking lighter rain tuesday evening and then the best chance of showers rolling through on wednesday as this first we think couple of systems come through next week. this weekend dry. monday looks dry and tuesday

into wednesday light rain at times moving from a weakening system crossing the bay area and another system due in for next weekend will bring the best chance of rain for the north bay and pushing south as we head into sunday afternoon and sunday evening. for the rest of the bay area the rain totals not too impressive. focusing on the midweek system on tuesday and wednesday and the area in blue indicating rainfall totals of about a quarter inch to a half inch staying up in the north bay. areas south we're talking the south bay less than a tenth of an inch of rain. hopefully we get more than that. we'll take all we can get at this point and we should see fresh snow heading towards the sierra heading towards tuesday night and wednesday. today once the patchy low clouds clear pretty nice afternoon. we should see temperatures in the low fills around san jose. upper 60s for the peninsula. san francisco mid-60s and into the north bay 72 in santa rosa and you see the tri-valley low fi 70s today. tomorrow warmer. the temperatures climb and tuesday and wednesday the chance

and we have some breaking news for you now at 7:50 this morning. we're just getting reports from the san ta clara county sheriff's office that a deputy has fired on a suspect in the hills above morgan hill and san martine, the intersection of croix road and esther lake and there's a manhunt ongoing right now so if you live on croix road in that area the sheriff's office is urging you to stay inside, lock your doors and do not go outside until they locate a suspect. sheriff's deputies showed up to the scene on reports of something suspicious. when they arrived the suspect rammed the sheriff's cruiser with a car and then took off. one sheriff's deputy fired one shot. one person is in custody but that other person, again, is at large. the sheriff's office urging you to stay indoors near the intersection of croix road and esther lake in the hills above
