the embarcadero, a busy monday morning as the commuters come and go. we're glad you're with us. this is "today in the bay." good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm peggy bunker. breaking news overnight as investigators are interviewing a conductor of a commuter train that derail and scaled an escalator in chicago. these pictures tell the story. 32 people were hurt but none of the injuries are life threatening. several hours after the train derailed it could be seen. o'hare passengers had to take buss to the airport terminals. >> it's a wreck. ain't nothing going to move out of that station today period because that train it's going to take a while to get the train off that escalator. >> chicago transit authority investigators along with the city fire department and police are looking at security video and also interviewing people and

hopes of figuring out what caused this crash. the ntsb is headed to the scene. >> to a developing story this morning. eight people are dead, at least 18 missing after a massive mud slide in washington. crews are still digging through the one square mile mud slide. there are no signs of life. mud is up to 15 feet deep in places near the town of oso. rescuers are trying to reach people who got dragged into the mud. officials say the potential for more flooding slightly less likely now because water built up behind the mud slide has been trickling downstream. >> several ships have settled in for the night after the night on the indian ocean looking for debris possibly related to the missing malaysian planes. darkness fell before the ship could reach the debris but the events are now raising hopes that tomorrow possibly we could get answers. with the latest details on this

search we go to nbc's bob redell in our studio. bob, especiallying in the news business you wake up thinking is this the day they find something? >> this is the closest any ships have been to possibly retrieving anything from the flight which has been missing for 17 days now. this morning a royal australian p-3 spot add green or gray or green circular object and another object, its naval counterpart has been en route. it is nearby. picking up these items at any moment but the sun's about to go down so might not be until tomorrow morning. this is happening about 1600 miles southwest of perth, australia, those two items are different from the two large floating objects and many smaller white ones spotted hours earlier by chinese military aircraft. this morning there is new information about another object, several here, spotted

days ago by a commercial aircraft. remember that wooden palate with the straps or belts. hours ago malaysia's transportation minister confirmed there were wooden palates on flight 370, but it's also possible that one might have fallen off of a cargo ship. there are five countries involved in the search for these objects including the united states trying to tind these possible pieces of evidence. while looking out an airplane window at 200 feet above the surface not very easy. >> the world is whistling past you and you're looking for an object among the white caps of the waves. >> obviously it's disappointing we didn't find anything. >> over the weekend the chinese satellite spotted a large object in a southern indian ocean in the general area. recently a french satellite spotted debris in the same haven't raising hopes that they will retrieve something soon. over -- i should note malaysia airlines reported that the

27-year-old copilot on board had flown a boeing 777 five times prior. those times with someone looking over his shoulder. this was his sixth flight, no co-pilot watching over which is in accordance with policy. >> thanks so much. it's 6:05. new this morning russian forces have stopped another ukrainian military base on the crimean peninsula and taken two servicemen captive. ukraine now ordering its own troops to withdraw from crimea. ukrainian defense ministry says russian troops seized a base at a key port detaining up to 80 ukrainian service men and taking two injured ukrainians away by helicopter. over the weekend a russian military vehicle smashed through the gates of ukraine's air force base, troops detained the commander of the base. president obama is in the netherlands where he is talking to world leaders about the crisis. tracie potts will join us with a live report on this developing

story coming up. >> seven people are in the hospital this morning after a fight in san francisco ended with gun fire. this happened last night in the tenderloin. christie smith is live at san francisco general hospital. police are still looking for suspects. >> reporter: they are. go morning to you. it's kind of amazing, seven people shot, all at the same time and all of them are expected to survive. their injuries mainly to extremities, arms and legs. police believe that this may have started with a fight in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood just before 9:00 last night. that street fight near turk and taylor, somehow escalated and someone opened fire. witnesses report hearing up to 18 shots fired. police as you said, still looking for the shooter. haven't released suspect information. they are trying to locate witnesses still but cameras may

be the key. >> just as a matter of course we follow up and canvas for witnesses and video sources so we're following up on that. >> reporter: san francisco police have not released information on a motive or what this fight was about or even what relationship these seven people may have had with each other. again, they are still asking witnesses who may have seen anything unusual give san francisco police a call. reporting live, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. as we give you a live look outside downtown san jose. >> looking nice out. there love that picture. beautiful. the lights. going to be what, in the 70s? >> it's going to be in the 70s. good morning to you. we do love san jose. it's such a pretty part of the bay area. so pretty the 49ers want to come to our county. 49 degrees now in san francisco,

we're at 49 degrees, popular number now. mountain view dropped 1 degree. we head throughout day we will hit the 70s, then the changes start to come in. keep in mind, umbrella, you have to have the wipers ready to go and because it's been a little bit of a pretty good span of time since we had the last rainfall, it's going to be slick tomorrow. mike always warns us about that. it's extra slick. we stop that clock, 6:00 a.m., the rain is coming in as we head throughout first part of the day most of that moisture is going to be to the north of the golden gate bridge. between 10:00 and 1:00 we get our first shower activity in the south bay. you notice this splash of pink, that's good sign that tahoe is going to accumulate snowfall at about 6,500 feet. i was in tahoe, squaw valley over the weekend. they still have choice conditions. and everybody up there is really

excited about the additional snowfall. we have two other opportunities as we head throughout the end of the week. temperatures mostly in the 40s, we head through the second half of the day we're going to jump into the 70s. it's going to be one of those days you might kick yourself if you don't get out. these are going to crash tomorrow. you notice that on the seven-day forecast. we'll talk about the timing of this system and the weekend when we really get slammed. that's in my next report. here is mike inouye and your morning drive. >> the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights, look at this shot. you see the fast track lanes. that's a steadier flow. a little advantage there. the maps show you a slower drive, around most of the bay slowing down starting to take place in typical spots, we'll follow the south bay with north 101, 680 to 880, 87 recovering through downtown, will build

again. here highway 85 around el camino real. reports of debris, no details but the earlier slowing i saw has cleared from the southbound side. that might be good news. here the drive through the tri-valley. also west 84 in through pleasanton and livermore. your build is on. southbound 680 shows speeds for sunol, typical flow. across the bay a look here, foster city side. an easy drive. a good volume of traffic. slowing off the hayward side. back to you. >> it's 6:10 a. controversial 7-11 will shut down. the city will pay the owner of the store on the corner of north san mateo and bell view, $150,000 to close. in 2012 planners approved the store despite local concern of an increase in crime, traffic and noise.

welcome back. i want to give you a preview of the next five days. a lot of rain coming to the bay area. potentially 6-plus inches in the north bay. i'm going to show you why in your full forecast. >> we're looking at a smooth drive but you get company here 880 past the coliseum. we have unusual slowing for a major commute spot in the east bay. as you approach 680, coming up. >> here is a look at today's top stories. 32 people treated for minor injuries after a commuter train derailed outside chicago-o'hare international airport. it happened overnight as a train was pulling into the o'hare station. passengers say the train climbed over the last stop, jumped on the sidewalk and went up the stairs and escalator. >> investigators in san francisco are combing through surveillance video hoping to find who opened fire on a crowd of people after a fight. this happened last night near turk and taylor streets. seven were hit but all expected

to survive. >> eight are dead, 18 missing after a massive mud slide in washington. a wall of mud came down on the town of oso, destroying about 30 homes and burying a square mile of land. >> happening now a massive oil spill is blocking ships as one of the busiest waterways. 400 people and five ships are trying to clean up this 168,000 gallon mess of oil in the water that spilled off the coast of texas on saturday. the spill started when a barge collided with a ship. crews have been able to pump the rest of the oil off the barge so no risks. it wants the coast guard to close access to the ship channel, one of the busiest ports. >> that spill comes as we reflect on the second largest oil spill. 25 years ago the exxon valdez

oil spill. even now the region still trying to recover. the daily news reports people in the area still finding fresh pockets of oil. the government says some species are trying to cover including herring and a group of killer whales. exxon paid $900 million 18 civil settlement in 1991, but could pay up to $100 million more if there is proof of unexpected continuing damage. >> china is demanding explanation over a new report that the u.s. hacked into e-mail servers of a chinese tech giant. "the new york times" reporting that the nsa started targeting it back in 2009 over concerns that the company was a threat to u.s. national security. the report cites intelligence documents leaked by edward

snowden. a german paper goes a step further claiming that the nsa targeted china's former president and min industries and banks. >> the most valuable company getting to business with the largest cable provider. apple reportedly in talks with comcast about a joint television streaming service. the service would use an apple set top box and get special treatment to avoid streaming problems. comcast is the parent of nbc universe including nbc bay area. >> cisco will offer computing to customers, pledging to spend a billion dollars to enter the cloud market. it's a departure for sisco. >> a look at the forecast. >> the kind you can find out all about.

that's in the clouds. 6:17. i'm always posting about weather especially if there is something interesting happening. stick with me. on line as well. nbcbayarea.com. so the time 6:17. the temperatures are chilly to start but it's not that bad. and it's going to be nice. today is our last day of the mid to upper 70s inland. so as i like to say, seize the day. temperatures are going to change tomorrow, drop off like a rock. so, basically, today's the last day of the 70s, we start tomorrow off into this rainy pattern. it's going to stick with us most of the week. i don't think anybody is really complaining except for the back it's going to come the heart of your morning drive. we need that rain and we've got quite a bit. clear with a mild breeze early. this is what you can expect coming monday. it's going to be mostly cloudy, especially to the north of the golden gate bridge. that coastal fog will return about 3:00 p.m. it's not going to be as sunny as

it was. still pretty nice. 76 on the peninsula, 66 in san francisco today, comfortable 76 degrees, hard to beat that. 79 up in the north bay. clouds starting to increase, cloudy by about 3:00 p.m. east bay, building, sunny, 68. and 78 in the tri-valley. we stop the clock tuesday at 9:00 a.m. still most of the moisture to the north of the bay area. throughout the day, though, all of that's going to move into the south bay by about 10 to noon, then we'll get hit at about 2:30. it could be a slower than normal ride home. into wednesday looks like showers return. watch that. saturday my noon the atmospheric river returns. we're going to stick with this for at least 12 hours. this brings us the generous rainfall totals. to the tune possibly of 6 to 7 inches in napa and santa rosa.

that's looking good. i'm excited. we're going to keep you updated. he's always watching the drive. what are you looking at now? >> we're looking at the traffic flow here. across the bay bridge, westbound, smooth up the incline. we had some mist through the area. but it wasn't a big deal. that was early. we have a smooth flow. to the maps we have the metering lights on. you have all of this red. also west 580 out of the maze. traditional flow. a fender bender. up toward 980 move to the shoulder. we'll focus on the folks from the north down westbound 80 and the east shore freeway. there is the build, richmond shows the orange so 50s coming through that area. again a typical flow. you have traditional backup through antioch. jamming up here toward bay point out of pittsburg. a crash took a while to clear. that is now moved to the shoulder so you have a burst of traffic to 242 and the 680 off

of highway 4, plan for that over the next few that will slow folks south from the beeshia bridge. farther south the 680 and 580 an easy drive. typical for west 580 at the dublin interchange and 680 slow, typical pattern for the tri-valley with speeds into the 50 miles per hour range around bernal. the rest of the bay, typical easy drive, northbound i keep saying typical. it's a smooth flow. 101 and 280 at speed along the peninsula side, no problems across the dumbarton or the san mateo. fog north maybe santa rosa but here the curves showing easy steady flow of traffic toward the richmond/san rafael bridge. no problems across the golden gate. >> san jose sharks in calgary as part of a two-game road trip f. they win or force overtime they clinch their tenth consecutive playoff spot.

the puck drops at 6:00. >> from the ice to the diamond, opening day one week away for the giants, a sure sign of spring. the third baseman pablo sandoval unlikely to have a new contract. he rejected the giants' offer, a three-year deal worth $40 million. his agent says he is looking for five years and $90 million. the panda wants to put contract negotiations on hold until after opening day. >> still ahead, the ambulance argument that prompted a patient to take the subway.

welcome back everyone. waiting for the sun's arrival. isn't this a nice view of the bay bridge this morning. we see traffic increase since we've been out here since 4:30 this morning. it's now 6:25. folks making their way into san francisco. hundreds of same-sex marriages are in limbo in michigan while an appeals court sorts out legal issues. hundreds of marriages were performed over the weekend before an appeals court to put a hold on them. last week a district court judge tossed out a state ban on same-sex marriage t state has not said whether it will recognize the marriages that took place. >> new jersey could be the next state to legalize and tax recollect rakecreational marijuana. governor christie said he will

never legalize marijuana because of the message it could send to children. >> a d.c. woman ended up finding another way to the hospital after paramedics started arguing in the ambulance that she was riding in. rose thought she was having a stroke so she called 911. when she got in the ambulance the two paramedics had a heated argue soumt she got out and took the subway. >> they are constantly bickering back and forth with one another and to the point that i felt so uncomfortable. >> she got so uncomfortable she got out. >> she wasn't fighting with them. they were fighting. >> with each other. turns out she was not suffering from a stroke but bell's palsy. she is doing okay. boy, that is remarkable. you're in an emergency situation but it's not worth hanging out in the ambulance. >> 6:26. >> a security breach at the dmv, if your personal information

activity as they hope to make up for losses on friday. a lot of volatility expected, considering the issues with russia and ukraine. also taking you live to the nasdaq i think. yes, there you go. a look at the opening bell there. it's monday, march 24, this is "today in the bay." >> straight up 6:30. i'm peggy bunker. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. russian forces have stormed another ukrainian military base on the crimean peninsula. taking two servicemen captive. this is the third military base on the crimean peninsula now under russian control. now ukraine is ordering its own troops to leave crimea. all of this comes as president obama arrives in the netherlands for a series of meetings. danielle leigh joins us live in washington, d.c. this is supposed to be a routine meeting. now it's an emergency session.

>> reporter: right. all of that has now changed and you know the crisis is overshadowing what was a meeting about nuclear security. president obama bet a couple leaders. the test is going to be later this afternoon when he meets with leaders of the g-7 nations. he's going to be talking to them about sanctions against russia, she going to try to pressure them to stand with him and being ready to increase the sanctions on russia. the u.s. has put sanctions against some of the top officials in rush yaxt president obama indicated he is willing to do more if rush kwan troops continue to move into ukraine, he needs to make sure allies are behind him in that. this is a big diplomatic test as he tries to get support for these measures. as you mentioned russian troops are definitely moving in crimea. the big concern is that as they do that they are also lining up along the eastern border in ukraine. so leaders in ukraine are worried about what are their intentions, are they planning to

move forward. it's the president's hope he can try to get a diplomatic solution and de-escalate what is an increasingly tense situation there. live in washington, danielle leigh. back to you. >> thank you very much. >> 6:31. the california energy commission says the amount of crude oil being carried by trains to the bay area has sky-rocketed thanks to an oil boom in north dakota and canada. they are carrying crude into the bay area every day. senator hill says that has him concerned. he points to a deadly accident in quebec last year involving a train carrying crude oil. 47 were killed. california could not currently respond to a disaster of that magnitude. >> it's the response time and the preparedness that we don't have in california. we're back in about any 80 and we can't deal with that volume. >> in 2011, there were 9,000 tank cars filled with oil brought into california from out of state. by 2016 the energy commission

the forecast is there at the bottom of your screen. all of my weather forecasts scrolling for your region. we've got you covered. 67 in san francisco, 78 in the east bay, 76 in the south bay, hard to beat that. i want to give you a taste of where we're headed in the south bay. temperatures are going to drop. we're going to lose about 10 degrees as of tomorrow you need to pull out the sweater and umbrella as well. 64 degrees down to 62 in san jose by wednesday that means the upper 50s are expected, a return to winter-like weather in san francisco as we head throughout wednesday. by thursday, mostly dry, friday, also looking mostly dry and then this weekend we have some major rainfall on the way. looking like i have to come in and work because it's going to that be intense. we need the rain and we need a lot. that's great. what are you tracking? >> i'm tracking whether or not i have to come in on the weekend.

goodness. fremont, today your work day. this is a nice flow but we're picking up the volume with the headlights fast truck scales. on the maps to the north we're looking southbound 880 at the auto mall parkway on ramp at the shops, the commons and the block there. there is a crash at the on ramp that's not affecting the flow. doesn't sound like it's visible. no lanes blocked. the northbound route for 101 as well as north 87 now kicking in for the volume to the south bay. i did show you that live shot and it's crowded. 680 up toward 880. that will smooth out. a smooth flow on both sides that we'll show you the peninsula. first stick with the maps and where there are trouble spots, around broadway another crash. so be careful, there may be slowing and there is a build through downtown north 880, but no lanes blocked from what i

understand past that crash. the bay bridge toll plaza t crowd off the maze for 580, slow from the top of the screen west 80 also comes into the 55 miles per hour range through richmond and starting to slow you more. and look at the peninsula with a live look, palo alto, there is a volume northbound, the headlights up into san francisco, 55 to 60 miles per hour so no big concerns. >> thanks so much. the california dmv launched an investigation after a possible computer breach, the dmv says it's looking at the possible breach its on line credit card processing system. the agency has opened an investigation working with state and federal authorities, any affected customers will be notified. >> 6:36. the united states joins the search for african war lord. >> high pitched screams in the night that oscar pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend but whose voice did neighbors hear? what a witness just said in court. after several days off the oscar pistorius murder trial resumed this morning. a neighbor took the stand in the trial saying she heard gun shots and screams of a man and woman the night that pistorius's

girlfriend was killed. the testimony is similar to that of others who also say they heard a woman screaming at the time. the defense says that neighbors were hearing pistorius 18 high pitched voice after he shot reeva steenkamp. pistorius said he shot her by mistake. >> closing arguments expected in the trial of osama bin laden's son-in-law charged with conspiring to kill americans and aiding al qaeda. >> he is pleading not guilty. >> the u.s. is helping in the search for a fugitive war lord. president obama is sending u.s. military aircraft as well as special operation forces to uganda. he is accused of killing civilians and kidnapping thousands of children and forcing them to become soldiers. >> coming up seven people shot as bullets fly along a busy san francisco street. >> an out-of-control train heads

15 minutes begins with breaking news where 32 people injured in chicago after a train jumped the tracks and crashed up on an escalator at o'hare international airport. most of the injuries minor, none considered life threatening. chicago police say the train

derailed just before 3:00 this morning as it was pulling into o'hare. >> the train climbed over the last stop, jumped up on the sidewalk and went up the stairs and escalator. >> it's a wreck. ain't nothing going to move out of that station today. >> we don't yet know what led to this incident, there are no indications at this point that there's equipment issues but obviously we're looking into that. >> the train service to o'hare is now suspended and federal investigators are on their way to the scene. >> this morning eight people are dead, at least 18 missing after a massive mud slide in northwest washington. take a look here as crews still digging through one square mile of mud slide. a fire chief says there are no signs of life. 30 homes have been destroyed and several are injured including a baby. the mud in some places is up to 15 feet deep making rescue efforts difficult.

>> in less than 15 minutes malaysia's prime minister is scheduled to hold a news conference on the search in the indian ocean. we get the latest details from bob redell. >> reporter: we are curious how significant this new development could be given that this news conference does involve that country's prime minister, and is happening late at night local time. in other words, it does not seem like it's anything that could wait until the next morning. in the past 24 hours searchers have spotted several more items in the southern indian ocean, they are circular and rectangular, none has been retrieved but an australian naval vessel is close. its radar has been able to detect some of the items floating on the surface. items possibly related to the disappearance of malaysia flight 370. >> i caution again mr. acting deputy speaker, that we don't know whether any of these

objects are from mh-370, they could be, we are hopeful that we can recover these objects soon and that they will take us a step closer to resolving this tragic mystery. >> you might recall that wooden palate with the belts or straps spotted a few days ago. this morning malaysia's transportation minister confirmed that flight 370 was carrying wooden palates, but so do cargo ships. five countries involved so far in this search including the united states, and this morning we're learning that the u.s. navy is sending what they call a ping low cater in case it's needed to find the black box which would be pinging out a location signal. the problem is that the battery in the black box only lasts 30 days, there is not much time left before that pinging stops. 30 days minus 17, maybe 13 days left. >> exactly. not a lot of time.

vladamir putin. >> check the forecast as we give you a live look outside. san francisco and san jose this morning. the sun up across the bay area making way for a very nice day. coming off a great weekend. you were in tahoe. >> we need the snowfall, we need the rainfall so badly. and i want to get to it. this is such a big news day here. let's start with your satellite imagery. look at that. counterclockwise rotation out in the eastern pacific, that is our storm system. it's going to be here as of this time tomorrow. so you want to keep in mind tomorrow could be a slow drive to work. our temperatures are pretty comfortable. mostly in the upper 40s, we have a couple of 30s, isolated. but that is what you'll find in the north bay. this other perspective of san jose. a clear start to the day, we're going to stay mostly clear about all day long. highly visible here, no low clouds. they are going to roll back in at about 3:00 p.m.

keep that in mind. this is what we expect in the city by the bay. 66 degrees for you in san francisco. we'll hit 76 degrees along the peninsula. we still have that minor offshore flow occurring. i think we're going to be as warm as we are anticipating along the peninsula. so 76 degrees not a bad day, not a bad day at all. a warm-up in the north bay. clouds increasing, mostly cloudy between 2:00 and 3:00. 68 degrees, comfortable in oak town and hey, 78 degrees not a bad day out in the tri-valley. so let me show you what's coming our way tomorrow. hook at all of this moisture, the system is going to fall apart before it makes its way into the bay area. we could pick up maybe she tlsh 4 inch, maybe up to an inch out of the first system. two more, one of which is going to tap into the atmospheric river. we'll get a break until about wednesday night after the showers, tuesday we'll get a break between wednesday morning all the way through wednesday evening, then the rain returns, wednesday at 8:00 p.m. we want this rain to continue all the

way through thursday morning. get a nice break for thursday and friday. and then look at this, that atmospheric river returns on saturday. so we're going to stop the clock from 5:00 a.m. saturday all the way through 4:30 a.m. on sunday, we are still hitting that. that means with 12 hours of that atmospheric river we could measure up to 6, maybe 7 inches of rain. this is what we like to call the weather game changer so. stick with us, every time the model runs come out i'm looking at them very closely to let you know how promising this is going to be. i'll have updates. let's check your drive. >> good morning folks. here is a beautiful view of the bay bridge toll plaza. the backup all lanes look at these, these are the fast track lanes moving and that means a little lighter flow and the metering lights are on. that's great stuff down the east shore freeway, you do have the slowing west 80 all the way into

the berkeley curve. the speeds about 55 miles per hour. lowering a bit. up here the only crash, valley view, that might affect some folks. going northbound 880, because of that volume the earlier crash at broadway has cleared from the roadway and that's better news as far as the flow of traffic goes. here an earlier crash as well caused slowing for westbound highway 4 after the antioch slowing. now all of these traffic slowing you down to 242 and highway 4. traditional flow of traffic south as you approach westbound 580 toward the dublin interchange, a good volume now as those folks out of walnut creek held up in the earlier crash as well as these from the dublin interchange for 580 join up and head south. we have that showing into the upper 50s as well and continuing to build. areas north of the dumbarton move for both sides of the bay. the east bay a little heavier flow. the south bay has your build for

the northbound side so 101, right around story out of the lanes, north 87, 280. coming into effect speeds are around 50 miles per hour. on the peninsula a smooth flow in the north bay as san rafael clicks in, southbound 101 starting to show that approaching the north san pedro road. smoothing out as you get close to the golden gate bridge. >> 6:52. 7 people are in the hospital after a fight in san francisco ended with gun fire. this happened last night near turk and taylor streets. christie smith is live at san francisco general hospital. police are still looking for the suspects. >> reporter: they are. they are not releasing a lot of information about who they might be looking for but it is kind of amazing this story when you consider seven people were shot in one incident, all of them expected to survive.

they were taken to sf general hospital. what police tell us is they were basically hit in their extremities, arms and legs, they believe this started with a street fight last night in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. that was at turk and taylor street. somehow this escalated and someone out there opened fire. witnesses report hearing up to 18 shots fired quickly. police say they are still looking for the shooter and trying to locate witnesses. they did check one hotel in the area. specifically what they are looking at is they think cameras might be the key to this. >> just as a matter of course we follow up and canvas for witnesses and external video sources so we're following up on that. >> reporter: police have not released a motive. what this fight was about in the first place or what relationship the seven people may have had to each other. again, they are asking for witnesses, any one who may know

anything about what happened to give police a call. reporting live, christie smith, "today in the bay." $thank you. 6:53. the san jose police officer charged with rape is scheduled to make a court appearance today. jeffrey graves was arrested earlier this m. investigators say he forced his way into a hotel room and raped a woman while he was on duty. hours earlier graves and several others were called to the woman's house when she got in a fight with her husband. she wanted to spend the night at a hotel so graves dropped her off. detectives say he later returned and sexually assaulted her. >> former owners of a livermore preschool will stand trial for allegedly swaddling babies too tightly. the state shut down the preschool last march after two women were accused of wraming infants so tightly it impaired their breathing.

>> watching for hot spots. the abandoned building caught fire yesterday afternoon crews had to call for backups. they think the fire started at a homeless camp and spread to the vacant building. though there have been reports of homeless living in the building crews didn't find any one inside. >> pg&e will speed up plans to upgrade a pipe line in san carlos. crews will start work on line 147 later this year rather than waiting two years as previously planned. most of the work will happen on a bend in the line near edmunds road and redwood city. the council will review pg&e's plans during its meeting and send a letter to customers about the upcoming work and hold a community meeting in april. the work will determine the safest operating pressure for the line since documents reve revealed that the line could lead to another quote san bruno
