slammed. i want to take you to the south bay, not getting much activity yet. we're going to see action ramp up over the next three hours. grab that umbrella if you're leaving now, if not, stick with us. tracking showers all morning long. mike inouye. >> i did grab the umbrella, almost forgot, on the way out the door. bay bridge, camera's moving a little bit. breeze through the area. glow to the lights, moisture in the air, and construction crews. we have two lanes blocked off of the treasure island area for the eastbound direction. we'll look at the map. smooth flow of traffic across. on the approach, slowing 880 around the bend but a couple of slower moving vehicles, not a lot there. green across the carquinez bridge, wet roads. that's what we've seen in the bay and we'll see more. arrow pointing toward the benicia bridge. lanes block for paving work.

cleared here at geary and van ness, but there is a streetlight that's laying on the ground there in the center median, after a wild and violent accident that injured seven people and had van ness closed. people injured in this accident were seen running away from the scene. this happened at 1:00 this morning an cording to witnesses, two cars got into a collision, a van and a smaller car. they say that once the smaller car collided with the other one, people got out of the car and physically ran away. two females and a male. bigger car flipped several times. >> so that's what i saw, the girl has blood on her face, and she was panicked. and some girls, a girl standing here, they just say, oh, they might stole the car. once he hit the car, all of the people in the car ran away. >> reporter: the extent of

injuries is unknown. geary was impacted, too for a time. but again, right now, all streets back open if you know the area, this is on van ness, near mel's diner. everything looking good at this hour except rain falling. we do have calls into san francisco police about this. as soon as we hear from them, we'll let you know what they had to say. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> a pretty bad accident. developing story. searchers scouring a small washington town four survivor i've landslide they are still hoping for a miracle, after they pulled two more bodies from the mud. total number of dead to 16 but not counting eight more bodies, however, have not been able to recover. a list of people missing is shrinking as callers call in from a town that lost power. more than 100 not accounted for. family members teaming up with rescue crews to find them.

school in richmond. arrested in the middle of class in february. accused of sexually abusing a student in richmond. he left the school in the fall and hired mi mira vista all while being investigated by police. arrests in connection to a house fire in mountain view, 14 people, including 12 mine norz, under arrest accused of setting the house on fire possibly covering up a burglary. charged with burglary and child endangerment. they were part of a group that spent several days partying at home while the owner was on vacation. the partying began march 7th and 16th. three teens started a fire inside the home. several items including a car had been stolen. the house was a total loss, but the car was found in one piece. yesterday. we have learned that the motorcycle rider killed was a marine who just returned from afghanistan. another man yohn driving drunk and running from police when they smashed into the motorcyclist. the driver kept going and crashed into a pole. he was later taken into custody. 4:37. people in one neighborhood hope new cameras that captured a person responsible for poisoning lawns in south bay. it's happening in saratoga avenue. the first incident believed to have happened in 2012. 30 yards have been hit. whatever poison is being used is causing large swatches of grass to die, leading some to suspect it's retaliation for using water during times of conservation. residents think the culprit is getting boulder. they band together for $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest. >> if the thrill of killing grass dies off, what's the next

thrill? are we going to be targeted? are our homes, families going to be targeted? >> police have no information on a suspect at this time. our microclimate forecast. live look at your drive on highway 101 through san rafael and also to the south bay. downtown san jose. looking at radar closely. >> good morning. >> good morning. 4:38. much-needed rain coming down, especially in the north bay. right now all pressing into the east bay. we are going to see a lot of activity today, tomorrow, and all the way through next tuesday. talking about a lot of rainfall moving through the bay area, and right now i can tell you the heaviest downpours are to the north of san jose. but we are going to get very wet as we progress throughout the morning. so, basically, you want to make sure you have that umbrella ready to go and, yeah, pack your patience. it it could be a rough drive especially north. let's check on that. mike. >> we will take a look at that

in the north bay, talking about showers. but also looking here toward dublin. bottom of the screen, it's slow moving vehicles. these are just off the roadway. construction crew doing overnight road work. now clearing from the entire scene. you see cars, bulk of the headlights, moving smoothly. the bay area looking good. all the way over on your right, that's where green and blue, registers road weather index tied in with the weather system, you'll get wet roadways and puddling out of the altamont pass. rest of the bay looking good south of the bay bridge and the golden gate bridge. south bay itself we have road crews but the 101 was the last to clear. rain did prevent some from doing work. crashing blocking one of the lanes toward redwood estates road. in towards the summit moves smoothly. to north bay, the live look,

caught fire yesterday. the airline, formed last year, said the domestic flight was on its way from an airport nur kuala lumpur to the eastern coast when the fire detection system was activated. a photo one of the passengers posted on his facebook. the pilot turned the plane around, landed safely, and no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. that scare comes hours before this morning's announcement confirming new satellite images that show as many as 1 2 pieces of debris in the water. this is a picture of one of the images just into our newsroom. officials say, little white specs are huge objects, 12 planes and 2 ships from several countries, including the u.s., scouring the indian ocean for any signs of wreckage. weather conditions improved, allowing crews to continue searching an area about the size of alaska. in the meantime we've learned that it a disaster movie with a

we desperately need this rain. we have more on the way, all the way through tuesday. tracking showers on the radar. take a look at tahoe. we could accumulate, get this, seven feet of fresh powder before we hit tuesday. we really need that snowpack. that's what makes the difference to our water supply. that's boding well. as we head through month of april, i can tell you now, it's looking heavier than average. things are starting to turn around. still going to take a lot of rain to get out of the drought. look what's on the way. as of 8:00 a.m., bay area getting wet. we stop the clock for you, getting into the afternoon hours, showers lighten up in the afternoon. more through tomorrow. residual rainfall. as we head into saturday, very active around here. we keep that atmospheric river pumping into santa rosa. we could accumulate 6, 8 inches of rainfall in places that we desperately need it in the north bay. we'll talk more about that coming up.

we'll show you what futurecast models are projecting as far as snowfall goes. looking really good. stick with us. much to go over. tracking showers by the minute as they come into the bay area. back to you. >> thank you. new set of eyes will be tracking the sierra snowpack from space. nasa equipped a special plane with high-tech equipment to make regular snow surveys. the airborne snow observatory will measure the depth and water content from 20,000 feet above ground. scientists say the method is more accurate than measurements taken on the ground because the snowpack is taken at low elevations. however, most of the powder in the sierra is on the mountain peaks. engine problems delaying arrival of a russian spacecraft heading to the international space station. one of the rocket engines did not burn off as planned. it launched yesterday. supposed to take six hours to get there. one american is on board. the crew is safe. they are expected to arrive

thursday. cell phone video out of houston shows a construction worker, he's trapped on the fourth floor balcony of a building. he paces back and forth, deciding to jump to the third floor. fire crews eventually rescued him just as the walls of the building begin to crumble. the fire destroyed the complex under construction. was a massive inferno. the cause is under investigation. >> remarkable. both the construction worker and the firefighter panicking there. amazing. popular eatery in san francisco's west portal neighborhood reopening today, after a devastating fire there almost two years ago. >> the restaurant burned down october 2012. it's taken 16 months to rebuild from the fire that caused over $7 million worth of damage to the block. this morning san francisco mayor ed lee will be there in person to cut the ribben and thank
