and we all have been around it at work. people sit close together in cubes, they're on the phone, everyone has got a conversation, all very important, and sometimes the person next to you is too loud. what would you do if someone who is very sensitive happens to be a loud talker. >> get another job. yeah. philip wright said he's outraged every time his partner tells him he's speaking too loudly in a restaurant. >> he did speak loudly. >> he does. he does. i don't know. you know, i can't believe anybody gets anything done on wall street. when they're all yelling and they're all on the phone and they're all -- >> what would you say, if i was -- you don't mind, i'm on the -- >> yeah. that's hard. >> nobody likes criticism. >> some people are loud. we had a few guests on, the ones who talk really loudly and they're right next to us and we don't know what to say. often we're like, wow. >> but the good thing is we know they'll be gone in three minutes. >> for the most part, it's fine. >> i remember doing live shots

in front of fires. >> those kind of live shots. >> no, the kind i used to do when i was a journalist. >> an award winning journalist. >> when you went to a huge event, reporters are lined up there is one -- like this close and each person as soon as 6:00 hits, everyone gets cued at the same time and it is like this cacophony, everybody starts talking at the same time. >> you got to keep thinking about what you -- >> very hard not to repeat what the person next to you -- there was a fire. there was a fire. i'm, like, oh, my god, i'm saying what she was saying. >> you're thinking, they're better than i am. >> how did they get that info. i didn't know they caught the guy. they're literally two inches away. >> do you ever stop in the middle and go, they did? where did they get him? who was it? >> they pull out and show there are tons of reporters all standing there. >> do you miss it, hoda, at all? be honest? are you happy with me? do you miss the fires and the murders and things?

>> i didn't in the beginning think i would miss all of it. since not covering tragedy and scary things, i feel happier and maybe it is because i'm ignorant. maybe i'm just -- like i -- it is more fun not to go deep on sad things and, look, i had my share of sad things, i covered them, lived through them, but there is something nice about making people feel better instead of telling them things that are going to make them feel depressed. >> enough of the other people are doing that. we don't do that. >> we don't do that. >> i don't care what anybody says. i adore you. >> what are people saying? >> they love you. women feel, and i could have told you this, i thought it was a little earlier than that, women feel invisible by the time they're 51 years old. do you ever feel invisible? >> that's an interesting question. we all have been through in our 20s where you don't even realize you're hot, you have no idea, and then when you're 30, you

look back of you in your 20s and you go, my god, and you keep going all the way, why am i complaining at 40 when i'm 50, 49 now -- >> we'll have a big old birthday for you in august. there is a big -- a new survey done by the herbal remedies company. they found that most women claim to feel invisible toward the other sex. other women still check you out, probably. >> i think a little, if you look pretty or like -- >> or smile. it is fun to smile at somebody and they're just stunned that you're smiling. you know what i love to do? >> what? >> get on an elevator in new york, hey, how's everybody? are you all having a good day? yeah. people are so stunned. >> you're right. you're right. the whole invisible thing, i do remember clearly, like, when i first moved to new york, i

didn't know anyone and i wasn't -- i hadn't been on the air so no one -- no one would have any reason to come up and say hello. i walked into a cocktail party and i'll never forget how awkward i felt and i was trying to get in on conversations and it is so weird, you're like, hey, how are you doing? and they're like this, good, good. and i'm, like, okay, let's go to the next one. all you want to do is leave. sometimes you're standing while activity is going on around you and you have a glass of wine and you're all kind of alone. it is a weird feeling to do it. >> now are cell phones. now you can pretend you're busy or take out a cell phone and check your messages or play candy crush. >> which, by the way -- i didn't know. >> did money buy you any? she does not know the name of her investment -- >> i never had anyone to do that, so his name is matt money. i told him the only request i ever made to him, ever, was buy candy crush. because i like it. i don't know if he bought it. i hope he didn't listen to me. it was a mistake. it didn't do well. how is it possible? >> i don't know. this is one of those things that everybody does and bit time i'm

mildly interested, it is a fad that has passed. i love it. i still don't know what candy crush is and i don't care about tv shows, i find out -- it is the last -- it's been on for 12 years and it is last episode, thank god i never got into it. how did i survive? i've never seen an episode of any of them. >> it is true. and then everyone is crushed when they're over and you're moving right along. >> doesn't upset me one bit. >> this is a big one. the olson twins are adorable. what do you think of people wearing socks with sandals? here is the olson twins getting off the plane. they had, like, tube socks, sort of, with those birkenstocks. anyway, they apparently -- everybody knows on the plane how cold it gets. if you have sandals, you're freezing. >> a big pair of cozy socks and put them own and take them off and put your shoes on before you leave? >> a fashion trend -- >> that's a trend, i never owned a pair of birkenstocks.

and a half later i called her and we had a chat and got past small talk. i said honestly, from your side, what was wrong? she said, you really want to know? i said, yes, i want to know. she said, you were boring. yeah. you were boring. and i through gritted teeth, i say why, why do you say that? she said, when i met you, you were the most ambitious man i ever met. you could get anything you wanted. but a year in, a year and a half in, all of a sudden, you weren't spontaneous anymore. you sat on your laptop, that's all you did, we didn't go out, didn't have fun. >> why didn't she tell you that? >> here's the thing. whether or not she told me was irrelevant for the truth that i got out of that, which was that ambition alone wasn't attractive. i needed more than that. it is the same with anyone. when you don't get that call back from a guy, very often there is one thing you're missing. that makes him see you as one dimensional. and we have to be many different things. >> yes.

we're back on this try day friday with more of "today" and a wonderful organization called garden of dreams that creates once in a lifetime experiences for children facing enormous obstacles of all kinds. >> a great foundation. it is a nonprofit associated with madison square garden where our very own jill martin is a broadcaster for the new york knicks. today she's helping two young ladies get ready for their first prom. >> i'm so excited about this, so proud to be part of this organization since its inception in 2006. at the we made 250,000 dreams come true for children who

really need it. i'm so excited for you to meet cassie and deanna. >> cassie smith, tell us about her. >> okay. well, cassie was 14 years old when she first started having trouble with her eyes. a brain scan revealed she suffered a stroke which caused permanent loss of her peripheral vision. doctors speculated the stroke had been caused by a genetic disorder that made her prone to blood clots. after further testing and a brief hospital stay, cassie was able to return home. however, she started having key debilitating pain in her head. they have yet to figure out an exact cause and cassie told me she wakes up with a severe headache every single day. the daily pain keeps cassie from attending school and seeing her friends, but she is looking forward to making new friends at the garden of dreams prom. >> so next to me we have cassie -- turn around for a second. so we can see you. this is ann, david and her sister sarah. are you ready?

the valves of her heart. to try to get rid of the persistent infection, they inserted tubing directly into her veins. unfortunately blood clots formed around the tube and some of these clots ended up blocking blood flow to her lungs. it was a painful experience for deanna who described it as hot burning lava in her lungs. now almost two years later, she is healthy again and thanks to the garden of dreams, she's so excited to be heading off to her first prom. >> her mom meredith is here. >> oh, gosh. >> are you ready to see your little girl? >> i'm so ready. >> don't turn around. just stay here and let's look. come on out. step right out. >> oh, how beautiful you look. i love the color of that dress. >> how sweet. >> thanks, mom. >> what do you think of your little girl? >> wow. you look beautiful.

11th hour rescue and found three older dogs that need homes. >> she is here with the pictures and the dogs all up for adoption and they're so sweet. they're a lot like children, the older they get, the older it is to find homes, right? >> they're calmer. here is -- >> this is lucy. >> lucy just ate a whole bag of treats. >> i'm sorry. what made you switch from "vogue" shots to dogs? >> well, i was watching my own dogs grow older, lulu and maxi and they were doing it with dignity and stayed with who they were at that day and that moment. and i was really kind of caught just really impressed and awed by the way they aged and the way their bodies aged and the way they handled their bodies ageing. >> tell us about the first -- the big guy you have. what is his name? >> this is dozer.

leisure" magazine's international editor. >> very important. and we like him. >> thank you so much, guys. >> nice to see you. >> always good to be back. >> booking your hotel room, we're always looking for a good rate. what is the best way to start off? >> you know, you want to know what the trend is. if you're going to be traveling in the next two months, is the price going up, is it going down, when should you target it. there is a website, a brand-new one, called the sweetest. and like a hotel suite. >> okay. >> they will show you exactly what the price trend is going to be. it starts up like a very traditional hotel website. they'll show you what the hotels are, we have it up here. they'll show you what the hotels are, pictures, the descriptions and give you a letter grade of what the hotels -- hotel prices. >> and then do the trend, though? >> then you -- you'll get a graph that will show you the prices going up, going down. it is a great tool if you want to time your vacation. >> okay. >> here is something that happens. you book your room, you're, like, i booked my room and you click online later and you see the price went down and you're

rate hotels that will give you the location. we booked one in las vegas. they show you the location of the hotel, the amenities, the price, but not the name. so here's what you do, though. there is a secret. there is another site called hotel deals revealed. they use the exact same description, same hotel rating, but they tell the name. so you have to do a little bit of detective work, not a big deal. >> go there first. >> you could go there first and go to hotwire.com and get the steep discount. >> i like what you said. >> real gamblers. what if you want the cheap ones? >> there is back bid. this is interesting. if you have a hotel you booked, you go on to backbid.com, you tell the -- the site how much you paid, what dates you're traveling, the name of your hotel. if any hotels in that destination think they can beat that price, they send you an e-mail with the name of their hotel, and say we can give you an even better rate. >> they're monitoring that and say, sounds great, but -- >> instead of you searching out the best price, the best price comes to you.

seaworld is celebrating 50 years of research, rescue and inspiring people to care for animals, the ocean and the need for conservation. >> julie scardina is here with some of the incredible creatures you might find down by the sea. good to see you. >> before we get started talking about all the animals and fish you brought us, it is the 50th anniversary, which is drawing attention to the controversial documentary called "black fish." and that covered the death in 2010 of one of the trainers, blaming kind of how the whales are confined to the death of that trainer. just your reaction. >> let me just say that the movie is actually very inaccurate and misleading. i worked with the whales for 30 years. i know them. they're wonderful animals. they exhibit all sorts of different behaviors from play to caring for their calves to socializing with the other animals, interacting with the trainers, to loving to learn and challenges. that's what the trainers do every day.

come to the park there are things we can all do to help wildlife actually. some of those things are making sure we cut our fish -- that when we cut our fishing line, we don't leave it in the water. one of the main things that happens. >> okay. all right. so let's get to this. >> this is a great one. these are two species people really fear in the wild. >> they get along beautifully together. >> people fear them because they think the stingrays will sting them as soon as they have anything going near them. and of course sharks, millions, hundreds of millions of sharks are killed every year. >> what kind of shark is that in. >> this is a bamboo shark, very small sharks, only get to be three, three and a half feet. and these stingrays -- >> no. thank you very much. >> we have a new area called explorers reef, where guests can come close and that's when you learn. >> why do they have stingrays if they're not stinging us? >> they do have barbs on their tail. >> like i said. >> okay.
