nbc bay area news begins with breaking news. -- well, good morning, everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. the breaking news in the south bay, right now police are following an overnight shooting on snow drive and highway 101. >> bob just got to the scene, what can you tell us? >> a residential area. a mix of apartments and homes, houses. you can see down the street where the officers are standing, that's where the shooting took place just over an hour ago, according to one officer we just spoke with on the scene.

one man has been taken to the hospital. this was the person who was shot. from our indications, we believe that the injuries are somewhat serious. we do know an officer is at the hospital, according to the sergeant i just spoke to here at the scene. they are on standby, presumably trying to speak with this person if they are ever able to come to and give them more information. they also have some people they are speaking with. what is not clear whether they are suspects or people or witnesses or maybe who knew this man who was shot. again, it's not clear what led up to the shooting. again, one man is in the hospital after being shot at least once here on snow drive in south san jose. this happening just over an hour ago. reporting live here, bob redell today in the bay. also in san jose, more breaking news to tell you about. firefighters are on the scene of a fire. this is a live look at the scene right now. crews just knocked down the flames, as you can see. old bay shore highway right here

highway 101 and state route 80. someone reported seeing smoke at 3:00 this morning. firefighters say it's possible someone was living inside the building when the fire started. old bay north shore is closed because of the fire trucks still at the scene. let's check your microclimate forecast monday and check in with christina lorenza for the first time. >> break out the muscle shirts, gentlemen. it is going to be a warm day. peninsula at 83 degrees and, ladies, yeah, finally wear the spring dresses just about every single day this week really, really nice out there and then we do have some showers, chance looking as great as it did last week. we'll say good morning to mike. >> good morning, christina. >> very easy light drive. here's your maps talking about

no major slowing and the shooting over on snow on residential street and that's not affecting your drive with the police activity. this over here the fire that peggy talked about off of old shore bay highway that connects 101 right through that section we'll have a closure on the northbound side. folks you can use 101 as your alterninate and and too early for those to be open. a light volume for you to expect and a couple things in the east bay coming up. new video just into the newsroom. take a look, this is a smart car right there that has been flipped on its roof. it's one of three smart cars vandalized in san francisco overnight. one was on anderson street near bernell and the other two away on sweeney street. all overturned and one was flipped all the way over and one burn turned on its side and the

last lifted on its back end. a group of eight people walk up and lift that car. a car hits and kills a pedestrian overnight near san francisco civic center. the crash happened at golden gate avenues about 11:00. the person was pronounced dead that scene and the driver did stay and is cooperating with police. preliminary reports show the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk at the time of the crash. searchers say it could be days before they know of signals heard from under the southern indian ocean are the data recorders of that missing jet. several ships have picked up pings from the water and an american ship, two separate times, but that part of the ocean is very deep and time is running out. those pings could stop any moment, however, search officials are calling this is the most promising lead and best information yet. tomorrow marks one month since malaysia airlines flight 370 disappeared. the search for a missing

hiker has been called off. looking for any sign of magdalena glinkowski. no one has seen the 31-year-old software developer since a camera caught her buying a parking ticket. they found her wallet and credit cards inside her abandoned rental car inside a parking. >> we're back with a vehicle at a parking lot and a description of a woman, besides that, we don't have much else. >> glinkowski is fairly new to the bay area and her family is expected to fly out from baltimore later this week. bizarre friday night 8:00 when he went into a home and allegedly hit a child. then the 18-year-old tackled a woman who was walking her dog

punching and kicking her several times. a neighbor said he heard the commotion and saw him running towards him and kicked him, as well. >> he stumbles back. he stumbles back and he's like and he picks up all this mail and throws it and looks at me. >> when police finally confronted him, he charged two officers before being arrested. police say he was tested for drug and alcohol use and being charged with one felony and six misdemeanors. the woman who was assaulted was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. a family and a sick baby girl were rescued at sea ask could be back in san diego as early as today. video of yesterday's dramatic rescue showing a team deploying out into the open ocean 1,000 miles off the coast of mexico where the family's sail boat had lost steering and communications. 1-year-old baby lera is now in

stable condition after receiving immediate medical care for salmonella poisoning. the parents took off on an around the world journey bringing her and her 3-year-old older sister along. the boat broke down, the baby became sick. lots of people, including their own family members, feel this journey was too risky for children. others do disagree. >> he is a former navy co corpsesman and certified captain. this is something they have been preparing for for years. >> friends that created a facebook group are trying to raise money. in the south bay organizers plan to file a police report saying they were scammed by a woman over the weekend. this happened in south san jose where organizers of the home said a person bought several items using $50 bills. the money was counterfeit. no one realized it was fake

until they tried to use it at a store. >> i went to get a hair cut and he took one look at it and said this is bad. >> the garage sale organizers say they want to get the word out so people know this woman is out there. let's check your forecast this monday morning. a live look right now at san francisco as we see a clear sky and a clear day ahead. a gorgeous week, in fact, christina loren. >> really nice out there. you don't want any tough weather on a monday and probably be one of the nicer days this week because we're going to warm up. you may have to use your air conditioner at some point. 56 in san francisco and 56 degrees just four degrees away from the 60s in mountain view. you're going to be headed outdoors today, this is what you can count on. mild start, mostly clear conditions. those temperatures will shoot up quickly and then we'll see a nice, clear evening.

going to be nice out there. temperatures work out like this. mid-80s in the south bay and 83 degrees along the peninsula and 75 in san francisco for today and 82 in the north bay. we told you about the chance of rain. >> happy monday, christina. across the san mateo bridge, for example. on the map no problems for this connector and the east bay and the peninsula. and little slowing shows up on our sensors but there's no activity there as far as any lanes blocked. things should clear in the next couple of minutes. westbound 580 and an easy drive pretty much at the speed limit towards that dublin interchange. these east shore freeways look at their speeds and looking at a really nice, easy, pleasant drive. towards the bay bridge and the maze and we'll show you a live shot for san rafael southbound

welcome back. 4:43 on your monday morning. outside, as you can see, some really nice calm weather. we're hearing from meteorologist christina loren. well, also this morning whole foods is recalling a popular wrap from all its stores in northern california,

including the bay area. recalling chitpotle chicken wrap because it contains a fish allergen not included on the label. they have a use by date of april 6th. if you bought one, toss it and take your receipt to the store. of course, if you still have it. congress fights over increasing the minimum wage to $10. workers are pushing for $15 per hour. labor activists in san francisco plan to file paperwork today to put the proposal on the november ballot. if it passes san francisco would have the highest minimum wage in the country. right now the minimum wage is set at $10.74. just last month, richmond voted to increase its minimum wage to $12.30 per hour. starting today, traffic near the site of apple's new space age campus in cupertino is expected to get worse. a section will close to drivers forever. that part of pruneridge is needed to connect the new apple campus with buildings it already owns on the other side of the

road. the campus will bring more jobs and tax revenue to cupertino but in the meantime, nearby businesses are worried that construction will drive away customers. general motors will slowly start fixing faulty ignition switches blamed for more than a dozen deaths. for that and the rest of the news before the bell hampton pierson. good morning. >> the markets fell sharply on friday despite the decent march jobs report. tech stocks dragging down the nasdaq and the rest of the market. for the week the nasdaq ended in the red, but the dow posted its third straight gain. look for data later today on consumer credit and later this week on inflation and consumer sentiment. the dow dropping 159 points on friday to close at 16412. the nasdaq closed at 4127. gm dealers will begin repairs today on those faulty ignition

switches in chevy cobalt and other models more than 2.3 million cars are expected to roll in for service over the next six months for repairs that are supposed to take roughly 30 to 45 minutes. more of those vehicles are ten years old and in the hands of second owners. meanwhile a judge in texas on friday heard motions to tell owners to park the cars until all the repairs are made. google is repairing its efforts to control your living room with a set top box called android tv. major video providers are building apps for the device. android tv is expected to be easy to use, similar to current products on the market like apple tv and the new amazon fire. android tv will proactively suggest shows or movies to watch. like "today in the bay." >> thank you much. i'm a big fan, i think those

built in saratoga, love them to death. >> very cool advice from mr. scott mcgrew. we always take his advice, christina. >> it is just a little, tiny building. happy monday. maybe you're heading off to work at one of our giant tech companies or one of the smaller ones. we love you all the same. san francisco, nice and clear. same for san jose. we're starting out mild temperature wise. look at some of these numbers. 56 degrees on the peninsula to kick off the day and that's the same temperature right now in san francisco south bay this morning. waking up in the 50s headed towards the mid-80s and i want to show you the temperature trend for the south bay. 84 degrees for today. we're going to be close to 90 degrees for tomorrow. so, very warm and then by wednesday an area of low pressure gets closer to the coast and we'll start to cool off expecting some showers. mostly areas to the north of the golden gate bridge as we head throughout friday and saturday but a fair chance for that.

"sugar babies." doing what he loved until the end. he said, do not retire, inspire. happening right now for the first time we're hearing from olympian oscar pistorius. he took the stand a little more than an hour ago in south africa. pistorius began his testimony with an apology to hthe family f reeva steenkamp. he said he wanted to protect her. pistorius claims that he skilled steenkamp by mistake thinking she was an intruder in his home. we'll hear his testimony in our next half hour. president obama will attend a memorial at the military base on wednesday where that shooting happened in ft. hood. meanwhile, debate over whether the military needs more money for the military police. another idea mulling over this morning to keep soldiers safe at home. >> not all, but maybe some of our senior leadership officers

enlisted men on the base carry weapons for protection. >> a lot of people don't realize on an army base, not a lot of people are armed. the white house is against the idea of sidearms. last week authorities say ivan lopez used his own gun to kill three people before taking his own life. he was also being treated for depression and had been evaluated for post-traumatic stress disorder. an annual spring break party near uc santa barbara got out of hand and broke into chaos over the weekend. take a look at this. quite the scene saturday night in ila vista during the deltopia party. it started just before 10:00 when an officer trying to break up a fight was hit in the head with a backpack full of alcohol. the 13,000-person crowd turned on authorities and even lighting fires and damaging police cars. in total about 100 people were

arrested. at least 44 people went to the hospital, including six officers. authorities used tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets to break up that crowd. >> at least one flash bang, holy cow. still ahead, a big named college quarterback working out with oakland. who the silver and black are eyeing coming up next. looking over here towards fremont. we'll talk about what's going on over in the east bay and the south bay, coming up.

well, happy monday morning to you, it's almost 5:00 a.m. almost time to get out there and join all those folks. check in with mike in a moment. the world's best golfers will tee off at the masters later this week, but yesterday was all about the future of the sport and this redwood city young woman getting a lot of attention for her skills. she's 11-year-old, she's lucy li she won in her age category. 1 of 88 players. golfing on the same course as the masters. hoping this competition will make golf more appealing to young players. johnny football waking up in oakland this morning. the former texas a&m quarterback will meet with the raiders for the second straight day. four other teams would have to pass on manziel since the
