cutter. the teen was pulled by a powerful wave yesterday afternoon while playing in the water along san francisco beach. christie smith is by the command center where crews are being brought in to help search. >> good morning, scott. because of the drift patterns overnight, they're basically searching between the golden gate bridge to just south of san francisco, desperately searching for this 14-year-old boy. also, san francisco firefighters are standing by. they have their mobile command unit and they say they're doing that just in case they get an emergency call that the coast guard does need help that they found something out there. the signs are posted at ocean beach that talk about how dangerous these rip currents are out here and that's what happened here at ocean beach yesterday late afternoon. two teen cousins were walking in the water near the shore when they were pulled out to sea by one of these rip currents. one of the teens dads was with them and tried to get in the

water and help them, but he got into trouble, too. and in this desperate situation, there was help. 17-year-old tony barbero saw one of the teens with his arms flailing in the water. he helped him and helped the dad in the water, as well. but then there were quickly questions that turned to the other teen. >> they were talking about a third person. the boy i think was in shock when i pulled him in. he was talking about his cousin, i take that to mean his dad was his cousin because he said the word cousin over and over. i didn't really understand. i didn't see any third person. >> now, the father was unconscious, we're told, and needed cpr. he was taken to ucsf after his pulse was brought back here at the scene. it turns out that that surfer tony barbero his dad is a captain with the san francisco fire department. certainly proud of his son. back here live, i want to show you strain your eyes but in the distance there is the coast guard cutter that we keep seeing

going up and down the shore here. what they're telling us is that at day break they'll bring more resources out here. not sure exactly if they'll be able to launch a helicopter to help in the search because of the fog. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." also happening now, crews trying to track down another pinging sound deep in the indian ocean. they are hopeful the new ping detected earlier this morning will lead them to the black boxes aboard missing malaysian airlines flight 370. the new ping is located in that very same area where sounds were first heard earlier this week. those pings are consistent with the plane's black box. searchers say they are now zeroing in on a targeted patch of the indian ocean west of australia. they say it's the smallest search zone they've investigated so far. new details this morning about the mass stabbing at a high school in pennsylvania. school closed today but investigators say all evidence has been taken out of the

building and students could return to school as early as monday. nearly two dozen people stabbed yesterday including one student who had emergency surgery oerb night. that student is listed in critical condition. the suspect is 16-year-old sophomore alex hribal. witnesses say he had a blank expression on his face as he went through the hallways slashing people with two kitchen knives. investigators say he told them he wanted to die. he's being charged as an adult. hribal due back in court at the end of the month. a driver who caused another car to crash into a day care center in orlando. one girl was killed. another is in critical condition. 12 others are injured. the florida highway patrol is looking for 26-year-old robert, they say he was driving a dodge dur ango that hit a convertible which jumped the curb and then smash under to that building. he has been arrested eight times

since 2000. a san jose day care being investigated by the state. parents making serious claims alleging neglect. live in san jose at the de colores children's center. what should parents think of this? >> up to the individual and one thing that they should be aware of is the state is concerned what is going on so much so that the department of social services investigating the de colores children center in san jose near highway 85 and 101. this after it discovered violations during inspections earlier this year. according to these documents, these are state documents. the state did find that the center had unqualified staff working with infants, not enough staff on site given how many kids are at the center and the staff to studentera ratio was t lopsided. during an inspection a state

worker found a child in a bathroom unsupervised resulting in a $150 fine for the center. two parents have already pulled their children because they believe the center wasn't properly taking care of their little ones. >> i want all the parents to know about the center. don't take your child there. >> we did speak with another parent who tells us in a few years they have been sending their child to de colores they never had a problem. we did reach out to the day care operator last night who told us she would address these allegations, but, apparently, had a change of heart. she left without speaking to us and did not return any phone calls afterwards. reporting live in san jose, bob redell. >> thank you very much, bob. 6:06 now. follow up for you this morning. good news for the commute and traffic back to normal on the bay bridge after a major mess last night. three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes shut down for several hours as crews repaired a large pothole.

it happened right after the evening commute, that was the good news. that is because the eastern span runs right under the western span. crew husband to close off three of the eastbound lanes while repairs were going on. fans leaving the giants game now, they were stuck in that backup into the overnight hours and the team lost, too. well, insult to injury. a live look at the bay bridge this morning and everything is good. chp opened the lanes up at 2:30 this morning and so far, so good. things moving pretty smooth so far. let's check the forecast and another look at the bay bridge. this time from the eastern side of it. mike says traffic is looking pretty good and we have the low fog. let's check in with rob this morning. >> little cooler out there. >> sea breeze picked up in san francisco yesterday and right now low clouds spread into the santa clara valley, too. 60 in saratoga around the peninsula and temperatures mostly in the low 50s and same as you head up to san francisco where you're looking at a lot of low clouds and probably drizzle or mist around areas closer to

the golden gate this morning and around the tri-valley, numbers in the 40s to near 47 in livermore and in the north bay, 47 in santa rosa and locations here in the north bay visibility less than a mile and slow you over into san rafael and visibilities around half moon bay and improving now in santa. notice the wind arrows. everything pointed inland, that's a sign of our strong sea breeze or we sometimes say the ocean air conditioning as the low clouds are matched with the winds coming onshore. that begins to cool down even our inland valleys. high clouds coming in this afternoon right around sunset, which for our mountaintop locations and north of sonoma county late tomorrow might see an isolated shower up there around lake county heading towards friday evening. for today around the south bay, 76 in san jose and near 80 in saratoga and san francisco staying in the low 60s and for the north bay, highs in the mid to upper 70s and pleasanton at

73 degrees. mike. >> rob, talking about the low visibility and gilroy and along the coast watching for that. san rafael and highway 101. 101 and san jose. still jammed up northbound. the 680/280 interchange gets confusing. that red zone right there all the way up to oakland road and an injury crash. over on the shoulder now as all the vehicles and then emergency crews arrived on scene for the injuries reported and a big distraction a big commute kicking in for san jose. expect more folks to hit highway 87 for an alternate at least for the next half hour we can track that and hopefully move those. sounds like minor injuries. here the tri-valley moves pretty smoothly and no problem to the dublin interchange. shows a little slowing for 580 and the left side of your screen and that's because there is a build for the volume. that's about it.

no problems approaching the bay bridges and the dumbarton but the bay bridge itself, slowing down through richmond and approaching the golden gate fields area and distracted drivers, folks, but that has moved to the shoulder. getting better into berkeley and a look at the bay bridge toll plaza as the metering lights not yet reported on but we see t backup for all lanes and that is the pattern we expect and i'll check with my camera, but they're on right now not in a couple seconds. 5:10 right now. "today in the bay" sfo showing an al qaeda ad encouraging people to build bombs. why the fbi says it's not actually worried about a targeted terror attack at our airport. and the royal couple hanging out with a hobbit. or at least the man who directed the film. we'll tell you why prince george stayed behind, next. plus, a live look this morning at a foggy san rafael and 101 there. we'll check back in with mike throughout the morning.

14-year-old boy swept out to sea. he's been missing since 3:30 yesterday afternoon. the boy's cousin and his uncle were rescued by a surfer. president barack obama in austin this morning to mark the 50th anniversary of the civil rights act. today wraps up a three-day summit at the lbj presidential library. a suspected fresno contract worker charged with murdering nine people has now confessed to 40 killings over several decades. he told investigators the crimes took place when he was involved in the drug cartel. martinez targeted victims all over california dating back to the 1980s. at 6:14. new concerns about terrorist threats after al qaeda magazine ran an ad of feature of sfo. >> peggy bunker with more. >> good morning to you both. first things first when you talk about terrorism and then one of our local major airports, it does raise alarm. but the fbi saying they don't

believe there is any threat to the public or those using sfo airport. when you see a picture like this, it is pretty unnerving to see sfo used as the backdrop for that ad. the ad is rather deck and shows the air train at the airport. the caption across the front reads this. "for how long will you live in tension instead of sitting, having no solution. simply stand up and pack your tools of destruction. assemble your bomb ready for detonation. that photo ran in the al qaeda magazine "inspire." congressman eric said he was disturbed by the picture. >> the photo is certainly concerning. it is calling on cal qaeda members to carry out a terrorist attack. a year after the boston marathon bombings we should be mindful that rogue individuals inspired by al qaeda can use household items to carry out these devastating attacks.

>> which was, of course, boston, the one-year anniversary of the boston marathon bombings is approaching on april 15th. he also brought up the sniper shooting of the pg &e and another possible example of terrorism part of that substation shooting was caught on camera when they took out cameras and then disappeared. back to that photo, once again, the fbi is saying there is no public safety threat, they want to let people know if they're using airport, the fbi and transportation safety administration and the airport all believe that the photo is a stock photo that was used and not something that was taken by a member of al qaeda. former san francisco supervisor ed will surrender today. he was initially supposed to serve a year in county jail, but last week a judge decided to lower that to 60 days. the remainder of his punishment served in home detention and

community service. mail fraud, extortion and bribery. 6:16, let's check your forecast and give you a live look at san jose and san francisco will be some of the things that rob is looking at. good morning, rob. good morning, we're watching some of those areas,cluding san jose. you can see the low clouds low clouds across the bay area and back towards san francisco and we have the low clouds and fog this morning and forecast moving forward today, what to expect this morning. misty skies at times low clouds and as we approach lunchtime, we will see the low clouds break up and cooling off our inland location and then as we head towards the evening, low clouds spill across the coastal hilltops and high clouds coming in just after sunset. we'll look at that in the forecast coming up. head into san francisco the giants game, first pitch 7:15.

bundle up, all day sea breeze keeping temperatures close to 60. cool out at the ballpark today. areas around the central bay into the santa clara valley with low clouds for the morning and peel back and retreat back to the golden gate bridge for the fron. moving through the afternoon, now seeing high clouds coming up out of the south and not the type to produce any rain for us just yet, but could bring some interesting changes later tomorrow. so, as the low tracks by to the south, that is the trigger to bring up some of that mid-level moisture during the nighttime hours tonight into friday and also boost the sea breeze which will drop our temperatures down a few more degrees for friday but interesting part, if you head towards lake tahoe and notice this futurecast now as you jump into friday. see the moisture coming up out of the south and northern sonoma county out towards the sierra by 5:00 friday may see a few of those pop-up showers as we edge closer to the weekend. around the bay area today, clearing skies around san jose and 76 degrees should be near 80

in saratoga and low 60s today in san francisco. for the north bay, highs in the 70s ask still some 80s around the tri-valley and notice the temperature trend as we go through the weekend. start to see temperatures coming down for the south bay. low to mid-70s by sunday and san francisco not much change for you. you have already cooled down and you'll see skies at times. but the biggest cool down for places like the tri-valley. 70s near 80s and cooling into the mid-70s and cooler changes in the seven-day forecast moving forward for the weekend maybe some showers, too, if you head to high country locations for this weekend. mike? >> we'll watch for those changes and fog is one of the issues this morning. three issues to talk about this morning. northbound 101, first big one for the south bay. here are the low clouds, visibility is fine for drivers here and gilroy where there might be problems and we'll get you located. overall the bay area moves pretty smoothly and the fog and the orange patches along the coast and into the north bay.

101 is jammed up and all the way past 680 where we showed you the live camera up towards oakland road and earlier crash over on the shoulder. injury crash and number of injuries there. traffic starting to move better there and ripple back with the recovery as it happens at the stop signal or in this case an accident. folks use that as an alternate and slower drive and folks use capital expressway to get over here and more traffic heading over there. hold steady, folks, this should sort itself out over the next hour. we're showing a slower drive, as well, southbound 880. hayward towards union city and fremont. san mateo bridge to the peninsula with no delays, but, again, watch the fog along the immediate coast. over here along the east shore freeway westbound does show approaching gilman. eastbound away from the bridge. countercommute. in one of your fast lanes and folks saw it on the other side and now slower down out of

richmond and berkeley as folks head to the toll bridge plaza. even as we expect for it fastrak lane but these lanes off to the left, just off the hov lanes as has been for the last few weeks, a little lighter. fog in the north bay and san rafael southbound. good flow of traffic here little slower through san rafael and santa rosa and novato watching for that slow drive and fog more of a factor for highway 101. >> busy out there, thanks. the bad news is we don't have any new video of prince george. >> that little baby, but the good news is we have new video of his parents as they continue their trip to new zealand. met up with "lord of the rings" director peter jackson. toured his collection of world war one aircraft which is housed at an aviation museum. prince william got to hop inside one of the planes. as for prince george, he stayed behind in care of his nanny.

the traffic running through. we'll check in with mike in just a minute. in the meantime, we are not that many crocodiles in the sacramento area, i assume, but there is one. someone abandoned a four-foot crocodile outside a reptile store yesterday. it was left inside a storage bin with a note that just said, call rescue. as you can see from the cell phone video, it somehow got out of that bin and started wandering around. the croc was caught outside a t.j. maxx store and now in the hands of the state fish and wildlife department. 6:25. sports fans in the bay area could take a lesson from a 7-year-old boy from gilroy. >> kaden beat out 15 million other entries in yahoo! march madness. now, kaden correctly predicted the final four. here's how he did it. he wants to visit florida, he picked florida. he chose wisconsin because he

to reeva's parents. i never got the opportunity before. i don't think they would ever want to meet me. i completely understand where they're coming from. it's not that i haven't thought about them. >> pistorius had testified he loved his girlfriend of three months, but he never got the opportunity to tell her. prosecutors say pistorius killed steenkamp after an argument. pistorius says he shot her by mistake thinking she was an intruder. new details about the mass stabbing at a high school campus near pittsburgh, pennsylvania. earlier this morning investigators gave us an update saying all evidence has been taken from the school. dave, we understand one student is still in critical condition after a surgery overnight. >> that's the new information we got this morning and somewhat bad news. the public information officer out here tells us that the student is in extremely critical

condition, that's what he is saying right now. a touch and go matter when it comes to life and death right now. very tough. right now no one has died. we have injuries, a lot of injuries here and getting new information every hour this morning. all of this happened yesterday morning around 7:15 east coast time when police say 16-year-old alex hribal went on a stabbing spree right here at franklin regional senior high school about a half hour outside of pittsburgh. 21 students and 2 other students hurt when they were running out of the building. hrbial taken out of the police station last night. overnight investigators finished up their work at the school and no longer considered a crime scene. students expected back here on monday. the big question everyone wants to know, why did this happen? several students tell us hribal was bullied. bullying was not a factor in what happened yesterday. investigators are not talking about a motive. he says the high school is a

very tight knit community that has programs in place to deal with bullying. he says this is a very tight knit community. >> i had found this community to be welcoming to me and to other people coming in. i found this community to be compassionate and i found this community to be caring. i found this community to deeply be concerned about their most precious asset, which is our kids. >> like i said, the attorney for the suspect telling us not too long ago that he does not believe bullying may have played a role. the fbi also involved in this investigation, they took a computer from his home, but right now they're not saying anything about what they may have found. they're not saying anything but a possible motive. we're live outside of pittsburgh, laura? >> the kid could possibly go back to school by monday. quite emotional for them. >> exactly. they want to get back to a sense of normalcy here.

they have opened the middle school and some of the other schools that were closed. they are back open and they have police there guarding those schools to keep us away and return a sense of normalcy. the high school is actually open and they will be in there and administrators doing work today and tomorrow and monday they will come back in and you know that has to be tough for these kids. just a tragedy that people around here just cannot understand. >> no doubt, thank you very much, dave live this morning. 6:34, let's check your forecast this morning as we look at the sunrise coming up over dublin. let's check in with rob mayeda in for christina. >> you have clear skies throughout the try-valley and not the case from emoryville they are seeing delays for up to an hour from arriving flights. clouds from the central bay and south bay including san jose where we have 53 degrees and overcast skies to start.

right now if you're around napa, you have visibility down to half a mile and reduced visibility in santa rosa and half moon bay and gilroy. now, hour-by-hour wul we'll see the clouds stick around and later this evening we'll see high clouds coming up out of the south as we'll see perhaps an interesting change in the weather for hill top locations as we wrap up the workweek. north of sonoma county and out towards the sonoma and few showers popping up as we get closer to the weekend. san jose today near 76 degrees where the cool down continues and san francisco looking at low 60s and the warmest spot today you see the clear skies are starting in dublin and livermore and tri-valley highs near 70 degrees. mike? >> chance of fog you were talking about over the course of the morning, santa cruz mountains and highway 9 report of a wood pallatlet broken up i

lanes. 101 still slow and on the maps, the south bay is showing this slow drive north 101. earlier crash activity at oakland road and just after 6:30, well, that means 87 will be a factor as i've been warning and slower drive from capital expressway and that will last probably for your morning commute, at least the bulk of it. southbound 880 and slower past 238. reports at one point a crash on the side of the road and all activity to the shoulder not a lot of slowing, but a lot of cars there. trying to track this down with chp. approach the bay bridge, pretty approaching the bay bridge where metering lights are on at the toll plaza and watching for effects of fog in the south bay. that fog lifting just a tad bit. back to you. >> thank you, mike. still ahead, 6:36. jewelry, clothes, expensive trips. new details about a bribery scandal at hp. plus, too hot for one

a southern california sriracha production plant has 90 days to figure out how to reduce the acid odors or city officials will come in and make some changes.

irwindale near los angeles declared the hot sauce factory a public nuisance last night. working on its filtration system since complaints started back in november. they hope to have a long-term solution by the beginning of june. hp paying $100 million to settle a bribery scandal. created a slush fund for bribe payments and also created shell companies to launder money. the goal to bribe government officials in russia, poland and mexico. court documents go into details about the bribes. in russia hp money was spent on travel, cars, clothing, jewelry and even swimming pool technology. officials were flown to las vegas and san francisco with money. one was given a private tour flight over the grand canyon. in mexico an unnamed consultant was paid more than $1 million because of his or her connections to the oil industry. hp says the misconduct was limited to a small number of people and those people are no

which you're seeing from san jose to emoryville. arriving flights to sfo being delayed up to an hour. call ahead. the usual scenario as the low clouds set up fairly low to the ground and space the incoming flights a little bit out. so, on that topic, low clouds part of the morning forecast with mist at times and then as we head through the afternoon, we'll begin it see low clouds break up. onshore winds and inlond locations five to ten degrees cooler and tonight not just low clouds, but also high clouds coming in out of the south. some changes maybe for the hilltops come tomorrow. so, during the day today, low clouds sticking around the coast and upper 50s and low 60s and inland temperatures in the 70s and watch after sun down tonight high clouds coming up out of the south and part of a weather system that is going to scoot by just to the south of the bay area and supercharge that sea breeze and drop our temperatures down a few more degrees tomorrow. notice the hill tops there. we're talking lake county and sonoma county.

problems. highway 101 watch for that fog and santa cruz your usual suspects. over here in the south bay, north 101 is the problem. a big crash up here at oakland road early in the commute set off all the slowing back towards capital expressway and as we have been warning you, slowing for 87 as a possible alternate. see slowing for south 680 in through town but a typical pat frrn a thursday right here and talking about brighter skies and clear visibility. now we have a little congestion and south 880 at 238 and an earlier crash was in lanes. i heard a number of cars on the shoulder. typical build right now hayward and in towards the san mateo bridge and in towards union city for south 880. bay bridge east shore freeway and berkeley and nice flow towards the bay bridge and oakland a live shot, as well, past the coliseum and low clouds, again. little slowing here and, of course, the warriors play the

nuggets tonight. back to you. >> thanks so much. 6:49. a developing story happening right now. still no soin of a missing teenage boy who was swept out to sea. the teen was pulled by a powerful wave yesterday afternoon while playing in the water along san francisco's ocean beach. today in the bay christie smith live at the command center where more crews are being brought in to help in this search. good morning. >> good morning to you. one coast guard cutter has been suffering through the night now that it is getting a little lighter out here. you can see what it looks like and going back and forth. looking for this 14-year-old. a second boat is coming to help and firefighters have been standing by to help, if necessary. but, you know, there are signs posted about how dangerous this water is with the rip current and some surfers heading back out already this morning and it is cold. about 55 degrees overnight. we shot some new video where firefighters took a quick walk down to the shore and took a look around. what i'm told is that they're

going to walk the length of the beach here from north to south looking for any signs of that 14-year-old. but here's what happened. it was yesterday late afternoon at ocean beach, two teen cousins were walking in the water near the shore when they were pulled out to sea by a rip current. one of the teen's fathers was with them and he tried to go in and help and he got into trouble, too, in the water. desperate situation, though, there was help. 17-year-old tony barbero saw one of the teens with his arms flailing and he helped him pull him on the board and the dad in the water and then the questions turned to the other teen. >> they were talking about a third person because he was in shock when i pulled him in. i took that to mean that his dad was his cousin because he could just say the word cousin over and over. i didn't really understand him, but i didn't see a third person. >> now, the father was unconscious, we're told, and needed cpr on the scene. he was taken to ucsf after they

got his pulse back here at the beach. turns out, though, that surfer that helped out in all this, tony barbero, his father is a capitalen with the san francisco fire department. certainly proud of his son. i can tell you that san francisco fire are back out here and they're telling us they're going to give an update in a minute, but, again, rip currents just really difficult out here and at this point, they are still searching but those temperatures very cold. 55 degrees. but the search continues this morning. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." also happening now an australian aircraft has just detected what could be the fifth underwater signal heard during the month-long search for that missing malaysian airlines jet. the aircraft was searching the same part of the ocean where earlier sounds were detected that are consistent with an aircraft's black box. the australian navy p-3-orion has been dropping sound buoys

into the water. new details on the mass stabbing in a pennsylvania high school. just a few hours ago police announced that the scene was cleared all of evidence and will take some time to clean up. the earliest students could be back at school is monday. continued to interview victims that were on campus yesterday morning. they say 16-year-old alex hribal went down the hall at franklin regional high school in murrysville slashing victims as he went. 21 people were hurt in those stabbings. four of them are in critical condition this morning. police won't comment on a motive, but speculation that bullying may have been involved. the state now investigating a san jose day care where parents are growing concern for their children's safety. bob redell live at the de colores children's center. some parent have taken the kid out of that day care. >> scott, we know of two children who pulled their kids out of de colores children center and one is warning other parents to reconsider.

>> i want all the parents to know about this center. don't take your child there. >> and she's concerned and the california department of social services are concerned. they are investigating de colores children center and in these documents already found the documents in violation. during inspections the center had unqualified staff working with infants and not enough staff on site given how many kids were that center in one instance left the child alone in the bathroom unsupervised resulted in a $150 fine for the center. we spoke with a few parents who have or still send their children here. one of whom it sound like will still send their little one here despite of the violations and investigation by the state. >> i have been here for a few years and never had any problems before. >> so, yeah, some parents pulling their kids out and there's one parent right there who sounds like right now they're still happy with the center. nbc bay area did reach out to the day care operator of the center who told us that she

would address these allegations. this took place yesterday. we waited for her. but she ended up leaving without speaking to us and did not return our repeated phone calls. reporting live here in south san jose, bob redell "today in the bay." east palo alto will pay $125,000 to the families of the 6-year-old girl killed in the crosswalk on her way to school. she was hit and killed at the intersection of gloria way and bay road back in 2011. her parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit saying the city maintained dangerous conditions at that intersection. since the crash, the city has installed flashing lights on the crosswalk and intersection warning signs and eliminated curbside parking to improve driver's sight line. the driver in that crash was a teacher at a nearby school. she was never charged. san jose is desperate to keep the number of police officers in the city as high as it can. one city council woman has a plan. bring some former police

officers back. rose herrera will talk about her right to return policy at a committee meeting tonight. the proposal will open a window for veteran police officers to return to the force without violating the measure b pension reform. herrera says many officers left because they were misinformed about measure b. dozens of them told her they would return under that new policy and the police officer association says they have not heard of officers willing to return. new concerns this morning about threats. after an al qaeda magazine ran an ed that features sfo. >> peggy bunker is here with more. good morning, peggy. >> good morning to both of you. the magazine is called "inspire" an al qaeda publication that targets a young audience and extremist audience throughout the world and published in the peninsula. how did sfo get published in this photo? the fbi is stressing they do not see this as a threat, more just

extremist propaganda. the caption across the ad reads, for how long will you live in tension instead of sitting having no solution and stand up and pack your tools of destruction and assemble your bomb for detonation. that ran in the al qaeda magazine called "inspire" and homeland security meeting on wednesday, congressman said the need for additional terrorism funding is obvious. >> the homeland security committee is trying to encourage funding for terrorism, antiterrorism programs th s thal better train and equip law enforcement officials. >> a possible act of terrorism addressed during that hearing was the sniper shooting of the pg ande substation last april. you can see it here in the video. when snipers took out 17 giant transformers and then simply disappear under to the night. now, the fbi said they do not believe that that transformer shooting that that was an act of
