for the cause. the building on park avenue near downtown san jose has been abandoned but firefighters say homeless people were actually living inside. "today in the bay" bob redell at the scene where he just spoke to a man who claimed he lived inside along with dozens of others. >> yes, laura, probably 28 people who lived inside our old tv studios. remember this building was abandened, but clearly wasn't vacant. they clearly made themselves quite at home based on what the fire department said they found inside. they found motorcycle, barbecue grill and sound like they just had a really elaborate setup. the arson investigator is expected to come out here this morning and waiting for the sun to come up to get a good look inside. firefighter we spoke to on the scene this morning making sure the hot spots don't flare back up says this appears suspicious just based on the fact that you had so many people living inside and they were here at the time when this fire started yesterday
6:03 am
afternoon around 3:00. that man who also lived here, he believes it was started by somebody who had a grudge against the people who lived here. when it caught fire yesterday afternoon, again, around 3:00. you can see how large it was. and it required a lot of backup to fight. fire department ended up calling for a fifth alarm and they needed so much water, they had to actually call the water company up to increase the pressure. >> there was one part where it just got, this pressure that came out of the building and just turned into this little tornado and it was rushing towards everyone that was standing on the block and just moved them out because the debris was so sharp. like cutting you. >> this fire was very hot. we can feel the radiating heat from across the street. power lines burning and phone lines were burning and a lot going on in the first 10 or 15 minutes of this fire. >> people were inside the old studios here when the fire started around 3:00 yesterday afternoon and based on
