good tuesday morning to you, it is 4:30. i'm peggy bunker. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check that forecast with mete meteorologist christina loren. >> we are getting into a lovely estretch of weather in the bay area. starting in the 50s you'll find some fog out there especially at the immediate coast and right along the peninsula. later on today for the peninsula, north bay at 75 degrees with some changes coming to your forecast, especially if you have family coming into town this weekend, you want to stay tuned for that. i'll take a close look at your

easter weekend, as well. we're just getting you started, getting things. >> take you for a quick look. we did have traffic going on on the east bay. traffic approaching university and the cars and the flashing lights past the camera. no lanes are blocked. in fact at the bottom of the screen they settled with the flashing lights. down through berkeley eand emoryville and we'll track that. the rest of the bay moving at speed and focus on livermore and the update on the overnight closures for 580. we'll send it back to you. >> sounds good, mike, thank you so much. right now crews are battling a garage fire in east san jose. take a look at this map this is where it is happening on moorings court. this is just off of 680. look at the live pictures here.

you can see large smoke in the background and black smoke billowing. the houses are extremely close together and now calling for backup. we do have a crew headed to the scene right now. we'll bring you more information just as soon as we get it. east san jose right there, you can see that fire under way and a very active scene. cadaver dogs and bull dozers are expected that scene of a massive fire that destroyed our old station on park avenue in san jose. one man who lived there told us that everyone did get out okay, however, arson investigators haven't had a chance to go inside because the danger the building could collapse around them. bulldozers will knock down what is left standing. >> we'll get our task force out here and cadaver dogs just to make sure that there is no one left inside the building. a. >> homeless man who lived inside the building he said at one time

there were 42 people living in the building with him. no word on a cause, but officials say the fire is considered to be suspicious. a plan to remember the victims of the boston marathon bombs. the twin bombs went off one year ago today killing three people. bay area aaron hern were hurt. a preview of the day's events. >> reporter: in boston, a day to look back and look forward as the city prepares for next week's marathon it pauses to remember what happened last year. two bombs exploded near the finish line. changing people and this city forever. >> it is going to be hard for them, but an important step in the healing process and also the healing process for the city. >> reporter: a year filled with survival and hope. now facing the reality that the day on the calendar is here,

again, when their lives so drastically changed. >> it feels like a month gone by because everything has been so quick and i've been doing so much. kind of fighting to, fighting yourself to move forward. >> reporter: as the tributes and memorials take place, bostonians will honor those who died while simply watching the marathon. . regardless of what happened a year ago e, this city is resolute to carry on as it always has. 9,000 more runners than last year will take to the streets and many running to hawner the victims and others to show that fear will not win out. >> always about being in our hearts and minds. boston strong goes on. >> reporter: showing strength by putting one foot in front of the other regardless of how hard that might be.

>> one bay area family remembers the horfific attacks all too well. 12-year-old aaron hern from hernandez was waiting near the finish line when the bombs went off sending shrapnel into the crowd. he underwent surgeries to remove pieces of metal from his legs. derek hammond was arrested last month, not sure why the public is just learning about the case. hired by santa clara county and not clear what led investigators to hammond or how many children he is accused of molesting. but police say all of his victims are now adults. police have new security camera footage will help them find a person who set fire to officers used by children's hospital oakland. this video was just released yesterday. it shows a man behind the

building just before the fire was reported. described as white, balding and between 30 and 40 years old and wearing a checkered shirt and white pants. that fire started at 2:00 in the morning on april 4th. san jose may have found a solution to end the shortage of police officers. letting sheriff deputies help out san jose police. theioid came after the city was only able to fill half of the open 60 slots and the most recent police academy. the leftover money can go to pay the sheriff deputies. the san jose's mayor is not so sure. >> if they have extra, then, yeah, it makes sense to send them to the area that has more crime. >> i just don't think it's a practical idea and the sheriff deputy has people sitting around looking for work. >> that plan would run for up to two years until the city can fill its ranks. the former gangster arrested

with state senator leland yee to enter a plea today. money laundering and conspiring to receive stolen property and traffic stolencigarettes. chow was scooped up with senator lee. today two other people arrested on the east coast and reportedly connected to chow will also be in court. a late-night show had people gazing towards the moon tonight. right around 2:00 this morning, a lunar eclipse turned the sky red. viewing deck was crowded with people all blanketed up to see the sights. the sun, the earth and the moon all lined up and the earth cast a shadow on the lunar surface. >> from the perspective of the moon, the moon has seen a sunset all the way around the earth. you're getting the red light of that sunset shining all the way to the moon and giving it that red color. >> it's awesome. i used that telescope many times

coming up here. >> they get more interested in the sciences. >> which is great because for a lot it was a family affair. if the weather blocks your view this morning, you're in luck. another lunar eclipse expected in october. >> that is beautiful. something, obviously, you don't see too often but depends on the weather where you were. checking in now is meteorologist christina loren. how was it in most spots? >> fog unfortunately drifts around and we were able to get some breaks of that beautiful moon. now, temperatures this morning are pretty comfortable out there, it's mild because of that blanket of low clouds and we're kicking off the day along the peninsula at 26 degrees and thanks for waking up with us on a tuesday morning. lots to go over in the full forecast. kind of a busy weekend for a lot of people. you might be traveling and people into town. the easter holiday right around the corner and pockets of dense

fog and weather story of the day, mostly cloudy start will make way to a nice, sunny finish. that may gray pattern a little early, about two weeks early. cool breeze picks up later on today and then a nice, sunny finish. temperatures are going to be just about perfect. mid-70s just about everywhere. 77, 74 for the peninsula today and kind of a cool day with the building sea breeze in san francisco. 79 for the north bay and the tri-valley is at 78 degrees. we'll take a closer look at what's coming our way as we get into the next five days and the upcoming weekend, that's in our next report. >> thank you, christina. great to be back. we'll talk about that later. over here in the skies, you can see the city lights. a clearer view here but you might find black smoke and bob redell heading out to the scene and this is the south bay and we do have a crew out there. you saw an earlier live shot. i'm circling the area and near

the intersection of alan rock and jackson. just off of 680 is a major off ramp, however, light full of traffic so far. alan rock is not affected but it's very close and calling out reinforcements. this may affect local traffic and we'll track it so far. the freeway itself moving smoothly. the tri-valley the earlier construction closing and cleared from livermore and that's a good flow of traffic heading over and the rest of the bay, look at that, no problems. we will show you off the water and the east shore freeway and the earlier traffic breaking crash and emoryville camera. and all lanes westbound 30 are moving clearly. all lanes are moving well there and flashing lights and not a lot of traffic. send it back to you. still ahead on "today in the bay" most of us know it is tax day today but today marks another major deadline. some californians might forget about this one. what you need to know if you

welcome back, everyone. we're taking you back live. this is a fire on moorings court in the southeast section of san jose near alan rock and north jackson avenue. started as garage fire, but they're trying to tackle it as the units out there are very close. we have bob redell at the scene. we'll check in with him in just moments. ukraine acting president launched an anti-terror operation in hoping get pro-russia supporters out of government buildings. not giving very many details about the operation, but said it would be carried out gradually. the move is in an effort to protect proukrainian citizens. warned against ukraine using force on those protesters. today crews scouring the ocean for that missing jet hoping to get a robotic submarine back into the water. yesterday crews sent the bluefin-21 deep into the part of the indian ocean to search the

sea bed for any signs of wreckage. but the water proved to be too deep and the sub automatically returned to the surface just six hours into its 16-hour mission. the bluefin 21 has a built-in safety feature that won't let it go deeper than 15,000 feet. the data it collected is being analyzed but didn't find anything significant. as many of you know it's april 15th, it is tax day. most post offices only opened during regular hours. the san jose on main office and oakland main office on lundy. to make sure you avoid any problems, you want to check your collection times at your post office and also double check your postage and use certified mail or return receipt service. and another important deadline today, covered

california applications are due. if you missed that deadline, you will have to pay a penalty. more than 1 million people signed up for cover california. 200,000 of them are from the bay area. if you have health insurance through work or school and signed up for it, you have nothing to worry about. in just over an hour google glass will go on sale to the general public. a limited time to get your hand on the tech gadget. here's the catch, google glass is only available today and only available online. they'll cost about 1,500 bucks per pair. so far the device has only been available to a select group of tech insiders. the big question is, will there be any takers? >> i think it's great. i'm walking down the street typing e-mail not watching where i'm going. i think that would be, it would be really amazing to be able to look up and get your work done at the same time, if you can. >> any einterest in google glass? >> none whatsoever. >> why?

>> i already think we have enough distractions walking around and everything else. >> all right. last year research showed only 12% of you as online consumers would be actually interested in computerized eye wear such as google glass. speaking of google, some controversy this morning surrounding g-mail. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn to seema mody at cnbc world headquarters. >> stocks ended near the high of the session on monday. investors cheering a report showing a jump in retail sales last month. today we get out some data on consumer prices and housing and fed chair janet yellin speaks before the opening bell. in terms of yesterday's price action, the dow raising 126 points and the nasdaq closing up by 22. social security administration halting a program under which people had their tax

refunds seized. social security recipients complain they were forced to give back money that was sometimes paid to their parent when they were children. telling users their e-mails are being automatically scanned to create targeted ads. that's following legal action. it violates their privacy in wire tapping laws but they consented as part of the e-mail delivery process. let's check in with christine right now and she has a look at our forecast. >> good morning to you. pretty mild to start the day and widespread 50s and temperatures this morning will stay put, at least for the next few hours, even after that sun comes up and limited sunshine. little disturbance through the bay area and, as a result, we have fog left over this morning and three hours of visibility up in santa rosa and four miles in half moon bay and also looking okay this morning down in the south bay and what will happen because that disturbance came through, we will see a much cooler day today. temperatures ending up in the

70s. so, what we can expect that big, warm air mass to retreat. it was a really nice day yesterday. temperatures hit the 80s and we're talking more about the mid-70s as that beautiful air mass comes in. we're talking about a cool ocean air mass transported all the way inland, that nice sea breeze all the way through the delta even. sacramento valley, if you live there, they always call it the delta breeze and it keeps things nice and cool when you get that trend. 77 degrees in the south bay and the peninsula at 74 degrees and east bay at 78 for today. we don't have major changes coming to your forecast, but a couple things that i want to point out as we get into this stretch of fair weather. we're going to see our temperatures go up and down and down and up and the coolest day in the extended period is friday. a cutoff low is going to come into the bay area. produce steady drizzle or light showers at the coast. not looking that promising right now, but we are watching that for friday. then as we get into easter weekend looking pretty good.

you have the little ones excited about an easter egg hunt. have no fear, you can do it outdoors this year. saturday 76 degrees and easter parade and then on sunday, easter sunday, temperatures really, you can't ask for better conditions than this. mid-70s coming your way. more on your extended forecast coming up. peggy and laura, back to you. charges against a 73-year-old man accused of killing three people at a jewish-sponsored facility in the kansas city area those charges could be filed today. frazier glenn cross expected to be charged with three counts of first degree murder. authorities also say enough evidence to prosecute cross for federal hate crime charges that could result in the death penalty. the former ku klux klan leader has a long history with the group. well, the killing spree of two parolees who were weari ing gps trackers is creating major concerns.

police say that steven dean gordon and frank canto killed four women in anaheim and santa ana last fall while on parole. the pair who are both registered sex offenders were checking in monthly with authorities and complying with supervision giving police no reason to watch them closely. both men who could face the death penalty are expect today be arraigned in court today. we're learning more this morning about the miami police investigation surrounding colin kaepernick. kaepernick is named in a suspicious incident involving a woman at a miami apartment. that woman says she drank and smoked pot with the 49ers star and two other nfl players. she then said she woke up in a hospital not knowing how she got there. but the incident report indicates the woman refused to leave the apartment and that a friend of kaepernick's called police twice for help. the report also said kaepernick was not at the apartment when police arrived to check on that woman. the los angeles district attorney is still deciding what

charges, if any, will be filed against 49ers linebacker aldon smith. smith was arrested at l.a.x. friday afternoon after saying he had a bomb. police say he became belligerent after he was selected for a second security screening at a checkpoint. he was released on $20,000 bail. smith's fourth arrest in two years. punishable by up to one year in prison. 4:52. a crushing blow eto the warriors as the team gearing up for its playoff push. and a live look outside. i zoomed in, look what we found. this car had bashed through just up the east shore freeway. we're going to sort out the effect on your drive.

4:55 right now on your tuesday morning. welcome back to you. as we take a live look from our camera inside at&t park. you can see mccovey cove. tonight, thousands of fans will pack the ballpark to watch the giants take on the rival dodgers and tim lincecum is on the mound. first pitch there at 7:15. today san jose's own aaron gordon is expected to announce he is entering the nba draft. just finished up his freshman season at arizona. he is expected to be a top ten pick. he was named the pac 12 conference player of the year. speaking of the nba,

where you'll see the flashing lights and not affecting the flow towards the maze. in the south bay, the only other issue that we're worried about and this is just off jackson street south of alan rock avenue. we have that house fire we're continuing to follow. alum rock easy off and on to 680. bulldozers will knock down the burned out shell of our old tv studio, but not before cadaver dogs do a final search of that rubble. plus, today does mark one year since bombs exploded near the finish line of the boston marathon. we'll show you how the victims are now being remembered, coming up.
