well, good morning to you, it it's 4:30, it's a friday. i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm peggy bunker. we want to check that forecast can christina loren. we made it to the weekend. >> made it to the weekend, it's good friday. temperatures are comfortable out there. mostly in the 50s to start the day and headed towards another comfortable afternoon and cooler in san francisco and headed towards about 74 degrees here in san jose with some changes coming your way as we get into that easter weekend. talk about that coming up in just a minute. right now, let's say good morning to mike inouye. i didn't welcome back scott

mcgrew. >> christina said good morning. over towards oakland where we'll pass right by the coliseum. a smooth drive and you're passing high street into downtown but reports of two big rigs and no? juries reported northbound 880 right around the broadway off ramp and two lanes blocked as they wait for crews to get on the scene. we'll track that. meanwhile, san mateo bridge and look at the westbound direction with the taillights away from us. high rise much smoother after an earlier crash cleared two lanes there. two sig alerts that made a big impact to the traffic throw and one cleared from the san mateo flow. we're tracking that. back to you. breaking news, the biggest disaster ever on mt. everest. rescuers methodically searching through snow and ice right now looking for climbers who may have been buried in a deadly avalanche on the mountain. so far 13 have been confirmed

dead. all the victims appear to be guides. they were fixing ropes for hundreds of climbers when the avalanche hit. hundreds of climbers and guides were waiting at base camp waiting for weather and they rushed in to help. the avalanche happened at about the 21,000 foot level. and closer to home this morning, a coroner is working to see if a body found on mt. tam belongs to a hiker who has not been seen since wednesday. this is the second body found in that area in less than a week. a sheriff deputy made the discovery during a search yesterday after a marin county man reported his daughter missing on wednesday when she did not return home from her hike. sanner's car was found on the panoramic highway yesterday when a hiker noticed her dog alone by the car. >> found the dog and saw the dog had some sort of license or i.d. tag on it and wound up speaking to who turned out to be the

subject's father. the father, knowing that apparently these two are what he described as inseparable knew that there was something wrong. >> investigators say there are no signs of trauma. it's possible that the woman fell down a slick about 30-foot hillside. the body does match the description of sanner but waiting now for a positive i.d. from the coroner. the sheriff department is waiting on toxicology reports to find out how magdalena glinkowski died. at this point, investigators say they do not suspect foul play. an east bay math teacher has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. 27-year-old leon chang surrendered to police yesterday two months after detectives say they were tipped off he may have been involved with a san leandro student. alleges chang arranged a sexual meeting with a minor with the purpose of exposing himself and committing lewd acts.

one of chang's students told us he is shocked by the allegations. >> it's like he could relate to us. he was there in our generation. the san leandro school superintendent said they're cooperating with police. how fast an suv was going when it crash under to the family of four in a sedan. the driver of the suv had been drinking. this happened just before 10:30 last night right near the bay fair center. the driver of the white suv ran a red light and then hit the sedan. the four people inside the car including a 5-year-old and 8-year-old were taken to the hospital, but they should survive. the driver of the suv was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. and a san jose man taken to the hospital early yesterday morning after a crash near almaden expressway and coleman

road has died. he has not been officially identified yet but he was taken off life support about 8:00 last night. he was taken to the hospital after his suburban collided with another suv. right now it's unclear who ran the red light in that situation, but investigators say the driver of the other suv had been drinking. the san jose man who accidentally left his baby alone in a hot car for nine hours will likely not face charges. that man was supposed to drop his 9-month-old baby off at a baby sitter before going to work on wednesday. he forgot and parked his car on the street and before going to work restocking vending machines. when he returned he found the baby and called 911 brut the infant was pronounced dead. >> everybody wants to vilify and say, oh, these are dumb parents and they're on drugs and they're alcoholics and say terrible things about those parents, but the truth of the mter is that happens maybe 10% of the time.

but the other 90% of the time this happens is some of the best parent. >> now, according to that spokeswoman from kidandcars.org. the first heat related death of the year nationwide involving a child in a vehicle. wednesday's high temperature was 81 degrees. >> heartbreaking. the president of san jose state is promising action in the wake of last fall's allege hate crime on campus. a task force made up of faculty and community members issued several recommendations last night. now among them a creation of office of diversity allowing students to report incidents of discrimination and requiring diversity training for faculty and staff. >> now is the time to use this ugly incident of racial bullying to bring positive and long-lasting change to san jose state university. >> one thing i can give you 100% is that each and every one of

those recommendations will be closely looked at and seriously reviewed. >> the task force was created after an african-american freshman claimed he was taunted and put a bike lock around his neck. four of the akudz students face hate crime and battery charges. a 21-year-old man accuseded of throwing a fire cracker into a crowd of people at wednesday's giants/dodgers game will make his first court appearance today. he tossed a lit firework on to a walkway at at&t park around 9:30 wre wednesday night. fans heard a loud bang and saw smoke above right center field. five people reported injuries including dizziness and temporary loss of hearing. he is charged with this charging and possessing an explosion and discharging a firework in a public place. well, 4:37 right now. we do want to get a look at those temperatures for the day. christina has been watching those. a lot of candy to hide this

weekend. >> you know, that easter bunny will get out there early because, you know, him and mother nature, they talk. they know what is going on and it is going to be warm out there. temperatures this morning, mostly starting out in the mid-50s. it's comfortable. today we're talking about the low 70s and then by easter sunday, closer to 80 degrees. mid-80s on the way to the tri-valley. pretty comfortable at the coast and microclimates are going to play a role in your weekend weather. i'll show you that in just a moment. for today you made it to friday, it's good friday and temperatures could not be better. we're right on track with seasonal averages and just a touch above in some cities. but 63 degrees, kind of a cool day in san francisco, 70s else where and especially areas in the south bay. really warm day today. what about 72 degrees by tomorrow and on sunday up to 80 degrees. chocolate melts, as we were talking about earlier this week at 69, 70 degrees. keep that in mind. always depends on the quality of the chocolate. but you want to try to have that egg hunt early and that way you

stick it out through that portion of oakland because that will continue moving. we have half the freeway open. the rest of your bay moves smoothly right here closer to the water and dublin westbound 580 starts to build but still no slowing through livermore or dublin. well, for the second time in as many months, a b.a.r.t. train derailed and this time happened as it was heading into the train yard. no one was hurt and service was not disrupted. officials don't know exactly what caused that derailment, but back on february 21st, another train heading into the yard also derailed at the concord station leaving cars strewn across two sets of tracks. well, still ahead "today in the bay" a major security breach affecting millions of people this morning. now prosecutors are calling for his arrest. we'll have the very latest on the investigation into the sunken ferry and the captain that jumped ship. got a story for nbc bay area investigative unit? call the tip line at

the 108th commemoration ceremony will take place at 5:11 this morning on market street. we're giving you a live look at that fountain right now. that is the exact moment that that quake struck. the fountain served as a meeting point for people who were displaced by the quake. then at 5:30 crews will paint a fire hydrant bowl like they do every single year. that hydrant was key to stopping the spread of the flames. around 3,000 people died, more than 80% of the city was destroyed in the aftermath of that earthquake. very famous hydrant there. now, the affordable health care act got off to a slow start and now a late surge of signps did push california's health exchange beyond original projections. nearly 1.4 million californians signed up for tuesday's deadline. the obama administration only anticipated 1.3 californians would enroll. nationwide more than 8 million people signed up. that is 1 million more than the government's goal. michaels says more than 2.5

million cards used at its stores nationwide have been compromised. this includes dozens of bay area locations. the irving, texas, based stores its chain store aaron brothers was also hacked. criminals used highly sophisticated malware never seen before. michaels says the hackers may have accessed credit card numbers and expiration dates, but no evidence that names, addresses or pin numbers are at risk. the breach happened between may 8th of 2013 and january 27th of this year. it affects more than 20 michaels stores throughout the bay area, including stores in cupertino, fremont, mountainview, san mateo and five stores alone in san jose. as for aaron brothers locations. stores that were hit include campbell, redwood city, santa rosa and fairfield. our own christie smith gathering

more information about the breach and how it could affect customers. also in the headlines san francisco based uber says it's upping its price in the name of safety by adding a $1 safe ride fee. uber says the fee will cover the cost of driver background checks and insurance. and bad news for chocolate lovers due to a mix of high demand and bad weather, cocoa prices are expected to jump. chocolate could become more of a luxury item like champagne or caviar. the price hike could push chocolatemakers to search for cheaper ingredients and that would sort of change the taste of the tweereats, as well. >> thatser a terrifying thought. horrifying. turning now to our microclimate forecast. live look outside here and next to at&t park this morning. you can see mccovey cove right there in the distance. the giants fell to the dodgers

yesterday. we were hoping for that weep and not to be. 2-1, not too bad and a gorgeous day at the ballpark if you were able to dip out of work a little early there and head over to at&t park, you probably had a nice day, even though it was not the outcome we were hoping for, christina. >> two out of three is not bad. two out of three is not bad especially when its come to the dodgers. headed to san diego and even better here in the bay area. 54 degrees in the south bay and 54 in the east bay and san francisco at 53 and we're starting out the day, chilly conditions this morning, the north bay. that's the only spot there, though, where we have the 40s to show you. at this point temperatures pretty chilly and coldest point of the day as we head through the next hour and then the climb is on with mostly clear sky right off the bat. temperatures in the 70s. 78 degrees for the north bay and right around 74 in the south bay and 76 for the tri-valley. we have a big weekend coming up. a lot of people will be heading outdoors for an easter egg hunt and maybe going to one of the many parades throughout the

area. nice and sunny, same for tomorrow and, yeah, a parade in campbell tomorrow at about noon, love to see you out there. mild conditions and then temperatures jump. eight to ten degrees on sunday. so, two very different sides to the weekend. next week we're talking about april showers and we have three chances for rain next week. i'll show you what the models are hinting at at this point. as we head tuesday into wednesday, we get that first chance and that goes for the north bay. areas to the north of golden gate bridge and i don't think any of that will reach richmond. 4:00 a.m. on saturday, a better chance for rain and we're talking about some pretty decent totals, as well. if this thing holds up, we could maybe get an inch of rain. we're looking good. after all, summer just about a month away at this point. we're talking dads and grads before you know it. back to you. >> how cool, that parade on saturday, go out and see christina for easter. new this morning, prosecutors have asked for a court to send an arrest warrant

for the ferry, the one that sank earlier this week. a third officer was at the helm of the ferry when it began to go under, not the captain. cranes arrived to try to right the ship. so far bad current and poor visibility have prevented searchers from getting to the submerged ship. they did begin to pump air into the vessel just in case there are survivors onboard. they confirmed 29 deaths but they expect that number to rise sharply. more than more. also today a high school vice principal who was rescued from the ship was found hanging from a tree. the investigation into his death is ongoing. well, right now robotic submarine, once again, scanning the floor of the indian ocean for any sign of that missing malaysian airlines jet. this is the fifth attempt by bluefin-21. this will be the deepest attempt. the sub, which creates sonar maps of the bottom of the ocean has covered 42 square miles.

it's found nothing before and it's found nothing today. the sub is searching an area of water 15,000 feet deep where pings believed to be from the plane's black boxes were last heard. meantime, dozens of planes and ships will continue to scour the ocean surface, as well. a burglary suspect caught on a baby monitor standing over a sleeping toddler in texas it's a video that went viral. that man is now in jail. authorities say tips from the public helped them to catch 18-year-old christopher gomez of houston. gomez is also a suspect in two other home burglaries. in the video you see gomez standing over a sleeping toddler. very disturbing to see. it happened earlier this month. the boy's parents were sleeping just a few rooms away and had no idea what was going on. police in hayward want you to take a look at some photos of a suspected bank robber wearing a pretty specific shirt. take a look, you can see the shirt says, i have issues. the suspect described as a white

or possibly hispanic man in his 20s, 5'8", weighing about 185 pounds. police say he walked into the u.s. bank on his perrian boulevard and told the teller he was armed and he wanted money. no one actually saw a gun and the teller gave him cash from the drawer and he took off. well, 4:51 right now. still ahead on "today in the bay" we'll tell you what happened at the shark tank last night that had many fans wondering if the game would even happ happen. looking over here. we know traffic will happen across the bay bridge and we'll talk about the slow down and the latest update for that sig alert.

welcome back here. time now 4:54. happy friday. we're looking at the sap center in san jose where some of the lights do appear to be on. still no word this morning, though, on what caused the lights to go out at the shark tank 45 minutes before the start of the first playoff game this year. hundreds of sharks fans arrived at the sap center early and they were in the dark for about a minute. the pictures you are seeing here was taken after the emergency generator turned on. the lights went out and generators came on. the outage delayed warm up by about ten minutes, but the game started right on time. >> we were having dinner and all of a sudden the lights went off and we're wondering what's going on. are we going to be able to start on time.

you know, it was just kind of freaky. everybody started yelling. crying out, beat l.a. all the usual stuff. but it was just a matter of about ten minutes or so and they came back on. >> just a little excitement, a little fun. actually felt like, i don't know, it was kind of fun. >> kind of like the super bowl. the power outage had no ill-effect on team. sharks jumped out to a commanding a 5-0 lead and did mount a comeback scoring three goals in the third period. in the end, not enough, sharks took game one of the series. puck drops at 7:00 p.m. and presumably we'll turn off the lights just before then. >> maybe the good luck thing, it worked for them. that's good. right now we want to get a look at that commute out there, 4:55. >> it's well lit because of all these headlights northbound towards the coliseum where the a's will be playing tonight. we're looking at the traffic

flow and let's look at the maps. traveling north past the coliseum and continue north through downtown a lot of red kicking up for this time of morning. two big rigs stuck in a crash there blocking your slow lane and the second from the right lane there. crews still arriving and waiting for the right size tow truck because they need big ones there. will take maybe another half hour or so. longer than they had thought, folks. traveling towards the area and the bay bridge and the maze moves very smoothly. even coming out of the altamont pass, come on over, folks. so far no one is listening because it's friday. >> isn't that the truth. two newborn kittens are recovering in southern california this morning. they were accidentally packed in a cardboard box and shipped to a cable company. >> mouse and wi-fi survived the 126-mile journey from l.a. to san diego. a warehouse employee made the discovery after opening up a fiberglass delivery. it's not clear how the kittens got in the box, but they're
