well, good morning to you, happy tuesday to you, i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm peggy bunker. the sky is also above san francisco and you can see a lot of people up and at em. it did rain pretty hard there in san francisco. let's get a look at the forecast with christina loren. >> peggy, scott, everybody at home. for the most part, the showers have cleared the bay area, but a little batch of rain over the altamont pass and light cells over san francisco. but i wanted to show you san jose nice and steady here when

it comes to our camera. camera shaking from time to time as the wind will pick up as that system clears out of here. pretty strong winds. if you do drive a high-profile vehicle, hold on tight to your steering wheel, this is the case for the morning drive. right now 21 miles per hour in san francisco and same for oakland. the wind will be a bigger factor than the rain for that commute. a stronger round on the way for the end of the week. that's coming up right now. let's check on the drive and see if the weather is impacting your drive. here's anthony. >> san mateo bridge cam. you can see that because the winds are really gusty and chp has issued an advisory if you are doing any traveling over the bay bridge, san mateo and also the golden gate bridge because those winds are so incredibly strong. take it easy, winds are gusting. we don't have any major accidents to report here early this morning. hopefully that's a good sign of

what is to come on this traffic tuesday. back to you guys. a routine traffic stop turning into the bomb squad being called out to san francisco overnight. a man pulled over last night around 10:00 p.m. park police said he told officers he had fireworks in the back seat of his car. a spokesperson said they couldn't tell if it was a firework or something else. they called in the bomb squad to deal with the device. the this happened on mason street near marina boulevard. investigators closed the area and then they blew it up. several businesses were evacuated as a precaution and the driver arrested. now, the story doesn't end there. officers are now searching the suspect's house in the russian hill neighborhood to make sure there are no more explosives. chase cain is in san francisco getting more information on this story. he'll have an update for us in 30 minutes. also new this morning, two men in the hospital suffering from stab wounds, doctors say they could very well die. the men were stabbed just after

1:00 this morning at the garden of edens strip club. it's not clear if the stabbing inside the club or out on the street. nobody arrested and officials have not released any information about possible suspects. investigators are trying to figure out why a driver pulled on to the shoulder of highway 85 right before her van was hit by a drifting jeep and a little girl inside was killed. this happened about 3:30 yesterday. the chp says a minivan was pulled over on the shoulder when a jeep veered off the road and hit it. a woman and a boy inside the van were taken inside the hospital, but that 8-year-old girl believed to be the driver's daughter was killed. >> most of the impact on the van is in the right rear and that is where the child was sitting. so, the vehicle, the jeep did travel on to the shoulder and partially on to that dirt embankt and then the front of the jeep collide under to the minivan and then he continued to

overturn and she continued across all lanes of the freeway. the driver of the jeep also has major injuries. investigators don't think alcohol or drugs were involved. the family of the boy who stowed away in the wheel well of a plane said the young man may have been trying to find relatives in africa. that plane was going from san jose to hawaii. it may have been the first plane the teen saw on the tarmac. they think he was unconscious for most of the trip on saturday morning because the plane reached 35,000 feet and could have gotten as cold as 80 degrees below zero. in most cases they don't survive and end up falling out of the plane. >> it seems too impossible to me. >> in fact the faa says 1947, 105 people worldwide have stowed away in unpressurized

compartments. calling for a review of airport security after this latest breach. a member of the homeland security committee. he says the committee has been asking for an in depth review of airport security for years now. the state commission will decide whether to save the iconic dome theater. it is set to be torn down. last month the city council approved a motion to ask the state historical resources commission to designate the theater as a historical landmark. the commission is scheduled to vote on that today. also today the santa clara city council will vote on people from turning homes into tiny dorms. somebody turned a two bedroom, one bathroom house to a six bedroom and residents saying they don't want their neighborhood to be overrun by students. but the person who owns the home has not violated any zoning

laws. a new curfew on beach fires near the gold en gate bridge. you would have to put out your fire by 9:00, instead of 10:00. late night fires have caused all kinds of problems on the beach. the new curfew could go into effect as soon as memorial weekend. considering raising the hopes of water in hopes of getting people to raise less of it. cut the city's use by 35%. that means the typical household bill could go up by about $10 per month. livermore will consider a similar plan next week, that city has already imposed mandatory water restrictions but hopes conserving rates will get people to need more. area. >> events are planned to inspire people to become more environmentally friendly. the latest in clean energy and how they can make their homes more sustainable. events will be held from san jose to san francisco. today san jose state university hands-on workshops held there and the city will hold a pier festival on pier 33 where they can learn about the many creatures living along the bay. a very unique dance performance about our oceans. for christina loren every day is earth day and let's check in with her and check the weather. >> even though we're still getting showers late in april, a great way to participate in earth day is to try to conserve water as much as possible for today. showers are clearing out. we didn't take out much. look at tahoe this morning. some snowfall up there and then there is a reinforcing shot on the way as we head into the end of the week. we have a heavier round of rainfall headed our way by friday, but, for today, wind is

likely going to play a factor for your morning drive. watch out for debris on the highway. right at the coastline, you can see our camera here in san francisco has a nice shake to it as our winds will strengthen. as we head through the next couple hours you want to travel cautiously. showers will clear by 10:00 a.m. and after that will be dry and cloudy sky will continue until this evening and sun will set at 7:48 and a nice, clear finish to the day. overall, temperatures will return to fall-like levels. look at san francisco just at 59 degrees for today and the peninsula at 65 degrees and that's sweater weather about all day long and look at this, we'll stay nice and cool as we continue through the rest of the week. temperatures only in the 60s even in san jose for today. low 70s for thursday and then that heavier round of rain moves in for thursday and another round for sunday. i'll show you that in my next report, stick around, especially if you're making outdoor weekend

little bit. if you were up already, you heard the wind rattling in some places. the fda is considering proposing rules. this comes as members of congress and health groups are raising concerns over the safety of the popular device. many have questioned marketing strategies saying e-cigarettes are made more appealing to young adults. several bay area cities, including san francisco, are already voted to ban the devices. the company that promised an instant cocktail has withdrawn its main lice license application. however, after the label was posted online and widely criticized over the past few days, the ttb and the maker agreed to reconsider the prublt. the maker plans to make some adjustments and then try again. just in time for earth day, apple announces it will recycle any of its old products for free. in addition, apple is going green in other ways.

executives announced a push to power all stores, offices and data center with solar and wind energy. they've also promised to send less electronic junk to landfills. palo alto based tesla plans to make cars in china. the company will continue to build cars in fremont for americans, but selling the electric cars in china is important for the future of tesla. not about the cheap labor, but about the taxes making cars in china and then selling them there. the company can avoid the country's 25% import tariff. critics say the model s is still far too expensive to become popular in china, but the chinese government has been encouraging energy efficient cars for years to cut down on pollution. well, later this morning the supreme court will hear arguments about whether new technology is the future of television or piracy. several networks, including nbc are battling against arrow which

streams network shows to paying subscribers without paying the networks for the contents. the networks say it's not stealing because it rents thousands of tiny antennas to consumers who decide what to watch and when. >> if they can pull this service down, which is so carefully designed to be legal, you have a spade of lawsuits about any cloud storage of any content. >> this is piracy. you're picking up copyrighted content that somebody else spent a lot of money to develop. >> the company charges consumers as little as $8 a month for that service. speaking of streaming video services it will cost more to use netflix for some. for the rest of that and the news before the bell, seema mody. >> hey, scott, futures lower after stocks posted modest gains. posting the first five-day win

checking in now, 4:46 with meteorologist christina loren. getting a look at our weather locally. good morning to you. >> we shouldn't see any airline delays. all of your airports, at least weather wise, looking very good. no fog but rain overnight. what would you want to do getting ready to the leave this morning, give yourself extra time and that's the best advice i can give you this morning. not only slick conditions out there and showers roll through and pretty gusty wind really starting to pick up, especially at the immediate coast and oakland hills. thank you for waking up with us on a tuesday and a lot going on as we go across the bay area and our festival season here it's really nice this time of year, only thing is, we're still dealing with showers, not just for today but more rainfall on the way as we head towards the end of the week. a few flashes of green mostly at the end of the bay area and as we head throughout the area, that will continue to be the

case. tahoe could pick up maybe six inches of snowfall just over the course of this morning and i do want to make you aware of the fact that it is going to be quite chilly out there for today. 65 degrees in the south bay, cool day, cooler than average and 59 degrees for you. we'll trend drier as we head throughout the day today in the north bay, but that's where we're going to see soupy conditions, at least through about 10:00 a.m. 66 degrees out in the tri-valley. i promised you a peek at your future cast for your weekend. here's what we're working with. i stopped that clock for you. friday, 10:00 a.m., more showers move through the bay area at that point and clear out by 5:00 p.m. by saturday a nice, dry break before rain returns on sunday. so, we're keeping the showers in the forecast and it's good news. we need that rain. back to you guys for now. >> christina, thank you very much. this morning, south korean officials say they were wrong.

the sunken ferry did not make a sharp turn as previously thought. they say that ship actually changed course gradually. the ferry onboard transponder said it made a j-shape turn. meanwhile, the number of people confirmed now stands at 104. 200 are still missing and are feared dead. meanwhile, ukraine this morning vice president joe biden delivered a message of support from president obama ato ukrainian leaders. he also encouraged to while they rebuild their government. try to avert a climbing strike in response to last week's deadly avalanche. sherpas are demanding more money for the families. a recommendation will be given to the government later on today. the air search for the missing malaysian plane is suspended for the day due to bad

weather. officials say a cyclone off the australian coast forced ten search planes to be grounded. however, the search on and under the ocean will now go on. ten ships will scour the surface of the indian ocean while an underwater submarine will continue to map the ocean floor. quite the endeavor. meanwhile, president obama is said to stop in malaysia and south korea in the coming days before leaving for tokyo later today, the president will tour the damage from that devastating mudslide in washington, oso, washington, that happened exactly one month ago today. 4:50 right now. for many in boston marks the first day of a new year. the day after thousands completed the boston marathon a year after a twin bombing there killed three and scarred so many. for the first time in 30 years, an american man won the marathon after pulling ahead of the pack of several elite african runners halfway into the race. last year that man was injured while running and watched the marathon from the stands at the
