well, good friday morning to you, it is 4:30, i'm peggy bunker. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. a live look outside across the bay area. the roadways are slick as rain is falling in parts of the bay area right now. in fact, let's check that forecast right now with meteorologist christina loren. >> basically anywhere you're going this morning you're going to have to use your windshield wipers. as you and see, we have widespread rarainfall on the radar and this is going to be the story all the way through 10:00 a.m. and then as we head through the afternoon, we switch

our gears and then we're watching potential thunderstorms. let's take a look at your full near forecast. first, let's say good morning to mike inouye. that's all right, we have our live cameras and looking out towards fremont and this is what christina is talking about and what i just drove through. had to use my windshield wipers on a slow swish. here this is san jose and damp roads here. we saw a good amount of wet cement and over here the pavement damp through san jose and no big deal, but you have to use the windshield wipers and that will continue to build. we're watching the bay bridge toll plaza, as well. no puddling, at least not much puddling over in the parking lot but we'll see how that developse careful careful. we'll talk about the north bay coming up in the next report. back to you. this morning police in

pleasanton are working with instagram. parents of kids were sent this e-mail yesterday and warns them that someone is messaging students through social media sites asking for inappropriate photos in exchange for naked photos of the user. the account appears to be from outside the community. so far no word on how many students have been contacted or which grade levels. district officials say it did not take place on school or school computers. they are reminding parents to talk to kids about social media safety. a spike in measles cases nationwide, the worst in nearly 20 years. centers for disease control and prevention say 13 outbreaks totaling 139 cases of measles have been reported so far this year. the highest number right here in california. so far 58 cases have been reported. that's the most since 1995. the state usually averages just nine cases per year. officials say most of the people

who have gotten sick were not vaccinated. that coupled with a growing number of americans traveling to other countries has health officials worried. >> measles is circulating around the world. we need people to not be complacent and make sure they're vaccinated and make sure their kids are up to date on vaccines. >> uc berkeley student with measles possibly exposing thousands of people to the highly contagious disease. measles will typically show up within two weeks of exposure. includes a fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or sore throat. two or three days later you may notice tiny white spots inside the mouth and a rash on the face and spreads to the rest of the baby. two men are in custody in connection with a deadly shooting in milpitas in january. charged with burglary and

assault. they're accused of the death of 19-year-old jesus granados who was found shot in a parking lot in the executive inn. the shooting of a dog walker appears to be over this morning. oakland police announcing arrest in the case. police say stephon lee and mario floyd because she used her cell phone to video them committing the crime. tips provided by members of the community. a 21-year-old man accused of throwing a fire cracker into a crowd of people at at&t park will be back in court for a preliminary hearing. he pleaded not guilty and last wednesday investigators say he taught a lit fire cracker on to a busy walkway during a giants game. at least five people were hurt. charged with two felonies and a

misdemeanor. the driver of a southern california school bus that crashed in anaheim may not have hit his brakes. the driver was seriously hurt in the crash and had to be freed from that wreckage. officials say they don't know what caused him to drive off the road, up a steep hillside and crash into a tree. the bus was full of students, all seventh and eighth graders who were coming home from an after-school activity. 11 students were hurt, two of them critically. experts say the drought is facing rats out of hiding and into the light of day. been complaining to the city about the numerous rats crawling around the park just during the day. experts say the rodents are searching for any source of water. >> a big old rat. >> no water source for them right now. they're going outside to get it. they eat plants and they eat meat but they're going to the dog parks because there are water bowls. they are going to the horse stables because there is water. >> the port of san francisco is

looking into installing rat proof garbage cans. a follow up now, it is unlikely aldon smith will face a felony charge for allegedly making a bomb threat at l.a.x. earlier this month. yesterday the l.a. county district attorney said smith should be charged with a misdemeanor instead. he made a bomb threat at the airport while going through security. in a separate case, he will be in a san jose courtroom next tuesday for a hearing on felony weapons charges and drunk driving. let's take you outside right now looking at oracle arena. 4:36. all quiet right now, but that certainly was not the case last night. when about 20,000 fans packed the stands hoping to boost the warriors to a victory over the l.a. clippers. clippers up big late in the game but seth curry had a chance to win the game with the time winding down. that shot came up short.

the warriors right there lose it 98-96, so close. they now trail the clippers 2-1 in the series. >> the last play all curry had to do was hit the three and that would have been the greatest comeback of all time. that's too bad. >> heartbreaking. but we'll be back sunday. >> obviously, a must-win in game four on sunday. we've already won in l.a., we have shown we can do that. if we want to allow that to be an opportunity for us to get over the hump. but we have to take care of sunday. >> when it comes to just one shot like that, that's painful. you just heard from seth there and we'll introduce you to his wife and how she manages to keep her super star husband focused during the playoffs. the sharks will have a chance to take the series on home ice. team teal on its way back up to the bay area up 3-1 in the series. a live look right now at that shark tank. sap center will be rocking on

your commute. i can tell you right off the bat, though, we don't have a lot of wind out there, you're not dealing with the two elements combined. this morning temperatures on the chilly side. 52 degrees in the north bay. you made it to friday here in san jose and temperatures today are going to be cool, only climbing by about three to five degrees over the span of the day. so, you want to make sure you have your jacket, grab that umbrella, intermittent showers and that is the weather story of your friday as we get into this weekend, temperatures will remain cooler than average. a mix of sun and clouds and then as we head through next week, nearing 90 degrees so, getting into some of that weather whip lash. i'll show you exactly when and where these temperatures come in. warm here in the south bay and the east bay. i'll tell you that for now. wait until i show you where we are headed. that's coming up in our next report. welcome mike inouye, it could be a busy day for you. >> it's friday, end of a spring break week for some of the east bay schools. the effect of the wet road could

to you. taking a look outside. you'll notice the roads are rather slick out there. you can see the sheen on the roadway out there. take it easy. usually friday traffic is a little lighter but wet with a little rain/drizzle coming down. christina will have a look at the forecast and mike keeping tabs on the roadways. new this morning to tell you about a passenger onboard a virginia flight to bali was arrested after he reportedly got drunk and tried to get into the cockpit mid-air. the incident was initially reported as a hijacking attempt but it was miscommunication. the australian passenger allegedly began banging on the cockpit door and acting aggressively. he was arrested when the plane eventually landed in bali. family members of one of the doctors who was killed by an afghan police officer says they forgive them. forgive him rather. the wife of dr. jerry says her family loves the afghan people and doesn't hold any ill will towards the country.

he worked as a doctor in kabul treating children and training afghan doctors. yesterday the gunman killed him, two other americans and injured a woman. he also shot himself, but survived. well, losing money because of the ongoing crisis in ukraine. today standard & poor's cut it to one notch above junk status. lost $70 billion in the first quarter all of last year following sanctions from the u.s. and europe. another round of those sanctions might be coming soon. >> those are -- >> let me be clear, if russia continues in this direction, it will not just be a grave mistake, it will be an expensive mistake. >> now the u.s. says there is growing evidence that russia is behind the militants taking over parts of eastern ukraine, including recorded conversations between the militants and top russian operatives. president obama is in south korea this morning to talk about the economy, but just his visit

is being overshadowed by the ferry disaster. the ferry may have had three times as much cargo as it should have had and it could have caused it to triip. many students found with fingers broken and officials believe they tried desperately to just claw their way out of that ship. 171 people have been confirmed dead. more than 130 are still missing. also during the president's trip to asia, yesterday he visited tokyo to discuss trade negotiations with japan. u.s. officials say progress is being made. teams have narrowed down their differences on two key issues that have deadlocked talks. stem from market access issues to relating to agricultural and automobiles. back here at home, the california bill designed to keep thieves away from stealing your smart phone has failed. the kill switch bill made to discourage thieves from stealing smartphones fell short by two

votes. the switch locks out anyone who doesn't have your phone i.d. or password. well, major tech companies like apple and google have settled a class action lawsuit involving tens of thousands of engineers. for that and the rest of your news before the bell, we turn to bertha coombs, happy friday to you, bertha. >> happy friday. a lot of folks may think the tech gurus down in silicon valley make a lot of money, but maybe they could have made even more. google, apple and adobe have settled a class action lawsuit alleging that they conspired to keep engineers and other highly sought workers from taking better jobs with their competit competitors. the deal averts a trial that was scheduled to begin in late may that could have exposed tactics that apple's late co-founder steve jobs and former google ceo eric schmidt used to keep lower paid employees working on their products and services. the suit had been seeking $3 billion in damages.

meantime, teachers are planning to lower start after stocks treaded water for much of thursday's session. news of the latest tensions between russia and ukraine weighed on the markets and likely will be a theme as we continue to hear really tough rhetoric there. we'll get some data this morning on consumer sentiment and earnings from ford which have come in looking pretty good. the dow had a rare day ending unchanged yesterday at 16,501. the last time it happened was on christmas eve in december, 2001 and it hasn't happened very much in the 118-year history of the industrial average. meantime, the nasdaq had a strong day, up 21 points on the back of apple's strong earnings results. and this morning the usda will release monthly price forecast. signaled the drought in california poses the risk of bigger price increases in many food categories, including beef, pork, poultry, dairy.

higher prices for fresh produce could show up in coming months due to the drought. california is the nation's top farming state. for me, the concern is the shortage of avocados. we've already got a shortage of limes because of bad weather in mexico. cinco de mayo is shaping up to be -- >> we need those, the avocados. the guacamole. >> exactly, guacamole and avocado. hey, let's check the forecast right now with meteorologist christina loren because change in the weather this morning. >> definitely. going to be one of those mornings you don't want to dilly-dally. give yourself plenty of time. showers all across the bay area this morning. a little bit of a break right now in marin county but more on the way. as we head throughout the day today, keep the showers coming through all about lunchtime and noon and 5:00 p.m. they will start to deterrierate. widespread rainfall. as we head throughout the day

today, cross over the south bay and this is going to produce the chance for some thunderstorms. we'll be watching for that as we head throughout the afternoon. we've already seen some lightning strikes. just to the north in the sacramento valley. we are on tap keeping that on the forefront of our minds and we'll keep tabs on that for you as we head throughout the day today. slick commute in palo alto and periods of rain through san francisco to start the day. as you head out the front door this morning, little on the mild side and also along the peninsula this morning. in the upper 50s but 54 degrees in the north bay and temperatures only going to climb by two to three to degrees. you'll need your jacket all day long and only headed towards the upper 50s to low 60s for your friday. we need the rain, though. this is great news and also getting a free car wash out there. the only thing is, we know your time is not free. so, give yourself a little extra time if you can because that commute could become rough and be a long one out there today. we'll keep tabs on that with mike for you. 64 degree in the south bay and

comfortable conditions as we head to the weekend and then as we head throughout the next couple days after sunday, both temperatures really start to climb. we're talking about a major warm up into the 90s. the warmest places are looking like the south bay, the extreme south bay and out in the east bay, as well. this is what we're expecting in the tri-valley. 64 grees for today and up to 92 degrees by next wednesday. more changes to come. a lot happening this weekend and the butter and eggs parade and janelle will be out there and forecast looks good. coming up, maybe a chance for showers only in the north bay. we'll talk about that coming up. >> a lot going on. thanks so much. >> thanks, christina. the silver screen returns to los gatos theater this weekend. >> reopening doors with all the bells and whistles. it's been closed for the last 18 months undergoing major renovations. the old theater now has state of the art digital equipment and stadium-style seating. it will eventually even serve

warrior star steph curry has fans all over the world, but his number one fan his wife, ayesha. >> they fell in love in college. she says the couple completely normal and spend most of their nights together laying in bed watching hgtv. during the playoffs she says her job is to keep her husband focused. >> usually i cook a pregame meal. usually some sort of pasta and if not pasta, and i'm not cooking, then it's subway. he takes a pregame nap and riley and i kind of do our thing during that time he needs clarity of mind and little relaxation before all the big stuff happening over there. >> she knows her man. she adds their world centers around their little girl, riley,

we need to find the inouye now. a zoo in mexico welcoming the birth of an unusual creature. >> you have to stop what you're doing and check this out. take a look at your tv. this animal a rare mix between a zebra and a donkey. we're talking about the zonkey. now, once again, the animal experts are calling it the zonkey. now keepers also say the birth is especially rare because zebra and donkey genes are not too compatible. what we're learning about an explosion in washington state. san jose state football player runs through a burning apartment on campus. we'll learn an update on his condition, next.
