well, good morning to you, happy monday. it's 4:30, i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. i'm still waking up. let's get that forecast from christina loren. >> good morning to you. look at this spectacular start to the day. fog free and low clouds against the coastline. this morning temperatures are chilly. pretty nice out there today as we head throughout tomorrow, temperatures soar. and i'm talking about a 20 degree jump. make sure you're ready for that. overall, looking pretty good to kick off the week.

let's check out your drive, here's mike inouye. >> we're looking over here towards the east bay. the taillights away from the bay bridge going eastbound on interstate 80. that's what i just saw instead of flashing lights. the overnight road work looks like it cleared from our camera shots. and we'll show you the stretch between university and berkeley curve moving smoothly, as well. watch for any slowing as the morning continues but an early clear up for those road work crews. want to get a quick look outside and see how things are shaping up. we have a view of the peninsula for the westbound direction of the 92 freeway, san mateo bridge. now, a wind advisory, but not for this span. look at the cameras holding venetia bridge watch for gusts there, as well as the carquinez bridge. we'll send it back to you. >> all right, mike, thank you

much. a developing story for you right now a coast guard cutter searching the san pablo bay after a small plane crashed into the water this after the plane collided with another in mid-air. statements from a number of organizations. debris spotted near brothers island, not far from the richmond/san rafael bridge. so far no sign of the pilot. chr christie smith speaking with the coast guard this morning, live with new details. give us new details. >> good morning, scott. i just got off the phone with the coast guard and they have a coast guard cutter forcing a safety zone basically in the area where they think this boat might be. by day break they'll have a helicopter in the search and the contra costa county after a mid-air collision yesterday near the richmond/san rafael bridge. two pilots at an air show

earlier in the afternoon collided. now, they apparently even knew each other. one single engine cessna were in the pacific coast dream machine show, that's in half moon bay. they were headed home when for some reason they collided in the air. the pilot and passenger made it safely to a nearby airport but the cessna crash under to the water into the bay. we spoke to the owner of the harbor who said everyone tried to help. >> the lighthouse boat went out there and they tried to get on site and see if they could help. there was some sail boats that had been in a race or something coming from valeo this way and pretty much right underneath it and they were on scene pretty quickly. >> now, the organizers of the show in half moon bay released a statement saying in part, "everyone associated with the pacific coast dream machines show is terribly saddened and we hope and pray the missing plane and survivers are found."

they are looking for that one pilot of the cessna. so far we are told they have found some debris, but no signs of the person. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> that rescue continues to get bigger and bigger, we'll check back in with you. thank you. also happening now at 4:34, an amber alert for a 3-year-old girl who was abducted from fresno county. she was taken just before 8:00 last night. it's unclear if she was familiar with the man who took her, where she was taken from. she was last seen wearing a blue shirt with flowers, blue jean shorts and white sandals. the woman accused of killing her infant son is due in court this week. 23-year-old ashley newton is still in santa rita jail being held without bail. investigators say she crashed her car in livermore saturday morning and stabbed her baby to death. heartbreaking. she also suffered cuts, but may have been self-inflicted and may

suffer from depression. she has confessed to the killing. she is expect today be in court tomorrow. this week, the san jose city council will likely respond to a controversial audit of the san jose police department. the report revealed an increased number of formal complaints against officers. in all, 35 officers broke rules, some as simple as speeding. other violations include ignoring rape claims and failing to investigate a young boy reported missing. it also mentions 177 allegations of excessive force by officers last year that were all determined ilegitimate by internal investigators. investigators in fremont hope nearby stores will have surveillance video for whoever shot at cars with a bb gun. two incidents in the warm springs boulevard and warren avenue areas. there was a third near warm springs and someone shot a bb gun at passing cars and in the first two, the drivers of the

two cars were hurt when their driver's side windows were hit. this morning the nba players association calling for the league to ban l.a. clippers owner donald sterling from future playoff games and also wants the maximum punishment possible levied against sterling for racist remarks contributed to him. the clippers took off their warm ups and wore their shirts inside out yesterday. reportedly of sterling and his girlfriend a male voice heard making disparaging remarks about african-americans after she posted a photo of herself and magic johnson on instagram. this video is not authenticated. >> yeah, it bothers me --

>> kevin johnson met with the commissioner of the league yesterday. he said the players want a decision before tomorrow's pivotal game five at the staples center. >> we believe that this is a defining moment for the league. this is a defining moment for the commissioner and it's a defining moment for all the players in this league. >> i think it has affected us all and it's difficult to believe that as crazy as it sounds that, that's the mentality, i wish i could say one person, that's the mentality of a lot of folks today and it's unfortunate. >> the commissioner says his first step will be confirming it's actually sterling's voice on that recording. meantime, the clippers' president is coming to sterling's defense. he said "it is the an thises of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life. he feels terrible that such sentiments are being attributed to him and apologizes to anyone who may have bight hurt by

them." a team spokesman suggests the audio was leaked because sterling's current wife is suing for embezzlement. in response to the alleged racial comments the naacp says it will not honor donald sterling for the lifetime achievement award. he was scheduled to receive the recognition on may 15th. leaders explain their decision during an interview on nbc's "meet the press." >> we have to stand up and let it be known that we're not going to tolerate this. somebody paid the price so we could play basketball. to him, it's like a joke, it's not funny and it's no joke. >> the l.a. chapter of the naacp expected to hold a news conference later this morning. as the story develops this morning, stay with us for continuing coverage any time we're not on air, you can always head to nbcbayarea.com for more

on this controversy. the midwest is getting ready for a second day of wild weather after more than 30 tornadoes touched down yesterday. 18 people are dead, most of them in arkansas and the largest of those two twisters about a mile wide. cut an 80-mile-long path through the state in several areas. the tornadoes did not touch down until after dark, the extent of the damage really may not be known until later this morning. now, speaking from the philippi philippines, president obama offered his condolences that the government was there to help rebuild. it's 4:39 and time to get a check of our forecast. starting our day on this monday morning. how are we looking, christina. >> good morning to you, laura, scott, everybody at home. temperatures are going to soar. especially as we head through wednesday, but as of tomorrow, a 20-degree jump. right now we're starting out nice and chilly. 49 degrees in san jose and want to take you through the changes of the day. little bit of onshore flow this

morning means we'll see coastal cloud cover and overall clearing very rapidly between 10:00 and noon and then a nice, warm, sunny finish. similar to what we had yesterday. so, just about as warm, a touch warmer in some cities. then as we head throughout the next couple days, those temperatures climb quickly. so, enjoy the 70s for today. you could probably get by without that ac and you'll likely need it, though, as we could see triple digits in the bay area over the course of the next three hours. good morning to you in oakland, 75 and 66 degrees in san francisco and the north bay is at 72 degrees. take you through the changes and give you some words of caution if you're someone who works outdoors or your kids headed out and about and even the playground blacktop getting very hot. hottest air we've seen this year so far, mike, i hope you're ready for it. >> a 20 degree jump, i have to reset my expectations getting ready.

looking at the pavement over there for westbound 580. the headlights and your commute direction through livermore and into dublin. a smooth flow, yes a lot of lots and we don't have any slowing as far as our sensors are concerned. just the beginning of your morning commute heading towards that dublin interchange. in the south bay, look at san jose, cupertino eall moving at speed. southbound 87 showing a little strip of yellow. just turning to the yellow portion and that's not a big concern. we'll track that, a smooth drive around the rest of your bay as you travel anywhere south of the golden gate bridge and looking north of the golden gate bridge and southbound the curves very easy drive right now and no problem, just a little bit of wind a little further east and chp just gave a warning, but no major reports. we'll send it back to you. still ahead, a broadcast building seized by pro-russian activists in ukraine. we'll have the latest overnight,

this morning to continue their search for more than 100 people still trapped inside a sunken ferry. so far the bodies of 188 people have been pulled from the water. search efforts over the weekend were called off due to weather. in australia, the prime minister says the underwater search for that missing plane will expand. he also says it could take up to eight months to thoroughly search the bottom of the indian ocean for the wreckage of malaysian airlines flight 370. today the bluefin-21 is on its 16th mission scanning the ocean floor for debris. so far, it's turned up nothing. stronger sonar equipment is expected to arrive actually in the coming days. meantime, in egypt, a judge has sentenced more than 680 people to death while reportedly taking part in riots that resulted in the deaths of several police officers. the suspects were among

thousands who were sitting in to protest the ousting of the country's president mohammed morsi. when police arrived and both sides began fighting. pro-russia activists seized a television broadcasting center in eastern ukraine started broadcasting russian television. also reports that pro-russian forces have begun taking hostages including supporters and pro-ukraine activists. announced new sanctions that target russia's defense industry and wealthy people who are close to russian president vladimir putin. that announcement came during the president's visit in the philippines this morning. the last stop on a four-country trip to asia. in manila today he signed a ten-year agreement giving the u.s. greater access to philippine bases. the move strengthens security in the region and also allows for a faster response to natural disasters. b.a.r.t. is getting rid of a

controversial policy that lets its employees bank on used vacation and sick time. you build it up and then you cash it out. the policy got a lot of attention after a former general manager continued getting a payout from her vacation time and other benefits two years after she stopped working at b.a.r.t. the new policy requires employees to cash out unused vacation time at the end of each and every year. lawyers for the world's largest smartphone makers will begin delivering closing arguments in san jose this week. apple has been trying to prove samsung ripped off designs and features of its products. samsung apple copied some of its technology. this is the second go around for the two companies. two years ago, a federal jury found samsung was infringing on other apple patents. apple has appealed that judgment. microsoft rushing to fix a major bug in internet explorer for that and the rest of the news before the bell, let's

turn. >> futures are higher as stocks come down off of a down trading week. the s&p 500 index says the broadest measure of the market has alternated between gains and losses. investors will focus on the economy due to reports on gdp and jobs. today we get data on pending home sales. 16,361 and the nasdaq moving 72 to 4075. well, comcast has reached a $20 billion deal with charter communications that could reshape the cable tv business. comcast, the parent of nbc universal, will swap or sell about 4 million subscribers to charter. it hinges on regulators approval comcast takeover on cable. microsoft is rushing to fix a major bug in internet explorer. the bug could let hackers gain control of your pc, allowing them to change or delete data.

microsoft says the bug is present on internet explorer 6 through 11 which is used by more thankful half of the world's pcs. >> courtney reagan, thank you very much. let's get a check in with christina, maybe a peek at the rest of the week, too. >> hot temperatures moving in, but a lot of people are ready for that. you notice on your seven-day forecast always scrolling at the bottom of your screen where the microclimate is headed this week and everybody going to see some really warm temperatures, even the 80s on the way to san francisco. temperatures right now, mostly in the upper 40s to low 50s and want to show zow some of the scenery across the bay area. nice and clear so far in san francisco. this isn't going to last forever, though. low clouds roll on shore as we head through the next couple hours. overall, starting out clear in san jose, as well. i think we'll stay mostly clear to kick off your day throughout the midland valleys. temperatures today comfortable. mid-70s in the tri-valley and 77

degrees is the forecasted high for e south bay and north bay this afternoon. then as we head throughout tomorrow, a 20-degree jump for many cities across the bay area. we'll keep on climbing as we head into your thursday and then that heat will start to break friday into the upcoming weekend. really that warming trend starts up today and that heat cranks tomorrow and we're also talking about elevated fire danger with off-shore flow shaping up. we'll te we'll keep tabs on that for you. friday looking pretty good as off-shore flow starts to decrease and see more of an onshore flow and as a result cooler temperatures getting into your weekend. overl th overall, that heat is on. we'll tell you who can hit the 100s over the next couple days. from the 70s to the century mark in just a couple days. stick around for that. scott and laura, back to you. >> just raining on friday. heat will punch us in the face.

the south bay stow away who hitched a ride to ohio in the wheel well of a jet could be reunite would his father this week. the father released a statement yesterday saying "we were relieved to hear of his safety considering the circumstances of this trip. my son, like many immigrant children, is struggling adjusting to life in this country." reports say the 15-year-old boy was trying to reach his mother in somalia when he hopped on the first plane he saw. apparently he thought his mother was dead and only recently learned she was, in fact, alive and in africa. a major blow to the sharks. who on the team could be missing on the ice tonight. and we're looking over towards the home of the warriors. a great job on the hardwood but a smooth flow of traffic good job getting to your job this morning. show you what else is going on in the south bay, coming up.

well ecome back to you, 4:54. the sharks kind of hoping they don't have to come back to san jose because they would have to and back to the tank in game seven. team teal had a chance to wrap up the series saturday night. they just could not get that job done. now the sharks might be without one of their most dependable players on defense. for game six down in l.a. tonight, he was actually hit on the back of the head in the first period of the game.
