mike inouye. >> we're looking to san jose northbound 101 and very light volume of traffic and what i wanted to point out and the south bay speed sensors are moving smoothly but a crash reported all the way on the left and should be cleared of the text there talking about a concert at the sap. i wanted to make sure we're not marking anything down for the sharks. called an intense music concert at sap center. i'll find out what is intense about it. found out on perhaps intense -- there is a description there. we'll see exactly what that description is. >> i think it is a band. >> i don't know. >> so many questions. >> i'll follow up on that, i'll send it back to you. breaking news we're covering this morning. search and rescue crews picking through bits of blown up wall and debris at a blown up wall at a jail in florida. a natural gas explosion caused

part of the wall to collapse killing two people. the rest of the inmates were taken to nearby facilities. there were about 600 people inside the jail at the time of last night's explosion. investigators still looking into what happened, but they say it could be related to severe flooding in parts of florida and alabama. >> our community has had a lot of tragedy in the last 24 hours with all the rain and all the water and to come into the jail and find this out, we're just praying and we're hoping for the best. >> now, the jail apparently took on a lot of water during torrential downpours over the past few days. parts of pensacola got up to 17 inches of rain. new video this morning of serious flames slicing through a home in san jose. the fire started just before 9:30 last night. firefighter husband a hard time getting to it. clutter in the front yard and they did save half the house. it all happened on foxworthy

avenue and crews had to call for backup twice. two people and their dog inside the home when it started. one of them was burned on the hand and should be okay. the cause of the fire under investigation. developing news now in southern california the wind whipped up this brush fire in the foothills of los angeles could start up, again, and undo all the work they did tonight. that fire quickly burning more than 1,000 acres. intense flames spread embers along the hillside. at one point more than 1,600 homes were evacuated. the national weather service has issued a red flag warning for extremely dangerous fire conditions in parts of los angeles, san bernardino, ventura until tonight. in some areas they expect dry conditions with wind gusts between 60 and 70 miles per hour. an iraq war vet is in the

santa clara jail accused of kidnapping two women and now we're hearing from one of the parents of the victim and the suspect. 23-year-old kenneth middlebrook kidnapped two women in two separate incidents in mountain view on sunday. each time forcing them to drive him around. in the case of the first victim, it started with her giving him a ride voluntarily and then police say middlebrook demanded she get in the trunk. >> he jumped and tried to choke her. but she's like, what? starts screaming and screaming and screaming. >> the woman got away by ramming her car into the car in front of her when they pulled over to exchange insurance information. middlebrooks father apologized to the women last night. he said his son needs help, not prison time after a tour of duty in iraq. >> she came back emotionally, physical physically, psychologically devastated. he said numerous times, i lost

my soul in iraq. >> middlebrook drove the car away from the first kidnapping and middlebrooked kidnapping a 61-year-old woman. now, he stepped briefly out of the car and the woman drove away and police captured him shortly therefore. a "today in the bay" follow up this morning. san jose students will have to find another way to reunite with his mother deported yesterday to keep her in the country. earlier this week we told you how the student reached out to congressman for help. lawmakers were considering her bill asking for an exemption based on humanitarian reasons but david gonzalez, who is an engineering student at san jose state got a call from his mother yesterday saying she had been deported. issued a statement saying, our dysfunctional immigration system continues to rip families apart. several may day demonstrations are planned throughout the bay area,

activists for immigration. from immigration rights to end e evictions. you may recall a small group of people clashed with police in 2012 in these rallies. in santa rosa, they'll focus on the 13-year-old who was killed by a sonoma county sheriff's deputy who thought the replica rifle was a real gun. two marches in san jose for immigrant and worker rights. the first starts at 4:00 at our lady of guwau guadalupe church e two groups will meet for a rally. workers will gauge the sierra nevada snow pack hoping to figure out how much water has melt under to streams and reservoirs. sierra snow pack accounts for a third of the state's water. the last measurement was a month ago. a show where 32% of how much

a wisconsin mom found something really disgusting in her son's juice box. black and green mold. her son was trying to drink the juice, but it wasn't coming out, so she cut open the box and that's when she found the mold. juice was unexpired but a tiny hole caused the product to go bad. other incidents have taken before. kraft is taken action to change the capri-sun to have a clear bottom. a growing resistance to antibiotics. patients are not getting better because antibiotics are not working. researchers warn simple infections can now be dangerous. >> many of the, you know, very common infection, right, that everyone gets it at some point in their life caused by the

drug-resista drug-resistant. >> if you are taking antibiotics, you are advised to follow the instructions and take the entire prescriptions. vitamin d deficiency to aggressive prostate cancer in men. researchers measured vitamin d levels in several hundred men who underwent prostate biopsies. while low vitamin d levels don't increase the risk of cancer. it's even worse when you look at african-american men. there it quadrupled. facebook is rolling out new privacy features today and for that and the rest of the news before the bell, it's bertha coombs. good morning, bertha. >> hey, good morning, scott. first taking a look at the futures right now pointing to a higher start. stocks closing out april with gains. investors shrugged off the really weak gdp report that showed just about a fractional in the economy and a lot of

folks chalking that up to bad weather. its third straight monthly gain and the nasdaq falling for the second straight month. today we're going to get data on unemployment claims and consumer and income and spending and earnings from exxon mobil. the dow closing at a record 16,580 as we rang the bell right here at cnbc to mark our 25th anniversary. the nasdaq closing at 4114. up 11 points for the day. meantime, another mega media merger may be in the works. "wall street journal" approached directv about a possible takeover. a deal could be worth $40 billion. that is the directv market cap. it would create a pay tv giant about the same size as comcast, the parent company of nbc universal, if comcast is approved for its acusition and

at&t which shed some of its cable customers now serves 5 million. it sold some of its cable business to comcast. these things all go in cycles. facebook introducing new privacy features letting users limit how much of their personal information is seen by third party sites and apps. share only your name and e-mail address. meantime facebook is testing an anonymous log in button. i think this is a real improvement because i always find if i share my information y don't like having to share all my contact information, as well. i think that's unfair. >> it will help spread apps that use facebook, as well. test an app, bertha, than if you feel if your friend' information. >> you don't feel like you're exposing everye else. >> what a good friend bertha is. >> well, yeah a bertha coombs. worth having an a facebook friend. >> we like it. we also like the warm up.

how did you do yesterday? >> i did okay. the air conditioner did not work overtime, it worked regular time. >> i was opening windows this morning because it was a little stuffy in the house, christina. >> you know what, not a lot of wind to get that air mixing in your home, not yet. but everything is going to change and your fair weather fans will come back as we head through the next couple days and let the temperature drop. san francisco, completely clear and nice pan to show you the embarcadero and crystal clear this morning. as we head throughout the day today, because we're starting out so warm even with an area of low pressure on the way, just about as warm in the inland valleys as we did yesterday. about two to five degrees cooler everywhere on average. this is where we're going as we head throughout the day today. kind of an interesting day for us. because onshore flow pick up for the second half of your day, you'll notice on your seven-day forecast right there at the bottom of your screen. a major dropoff in your temperatures. it all works like this. starting today, clear, mild start and widespread 60s out

there and that is balmy and bring another cool afternoon. the cooling clouds return to the coastline and as a result that stronger onshore flow will make for more comfortable evening tonight. your sun will set at 7:56. here's where we're headed temperature wise. 91 degrees for the peninsula and golden gate bridge you'll see the clouds return by about 3:00 p.m. today. for the rest of the bay area, temperatures expected in the 90s. 83 in the east bay and 92 degrees in the try-valley. let's talk about where we're headed. thursday, friday, oh, so close. weak disturbance comes through as a result and fog return to the coast and natural ac comes on as the ocean air is transported all the way inland. the next five days, we are going to drop like a rock and maybe even get a little bit of shower activity in the north bay and best chance sunday night into monday and overall look at this from 78 degrees in san francisco today to 62 degrees by monday. we'll tell you what's happening across the bay area this

welcome back, good morning to you. a live look outside this morning at o.co coliseum and at&t park. both the a's and the giants are off today. yesterday the a's completed a sweep of the rangers and the giants finished off strong. let's talk about basketball. it is win or go home for the warriors tonight at oracle arena. golden state trails the l.a. clippers 3-2 in the first round of the nba playoffs. tipoff at 7:30. now, if the warriors win, a winner take all game seven will
