well, good morning, everyone. 4:30, i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check that friday forecast with christina. good morning. >> good morning to you, laura, scott, everybody at home. what a welcome site. those cooling clouds have returned to the coast. starting out nice and clear here in san jose this morning. headed towards another warm afternoon and dropping those numbers by about ten degrees by yesterday's highs. temperatures right now mostly in the upper 50s to low 60s and on our way to up thor 80s only in the warmest spots across the bay. the tri-valley in the mid-80s

here in the south bay and 83 for the peninsula and then temperatures tumble over the weekend. i'll take you through that forecast in moments. right now, let's check your drive. happy friday. >> happy friday, christina. a live look for westbound 580. the stream of headlights and lighter traffic and a lighter build to the commute. this is dublin, look at the map, the yarre arrow is in the same compared to what you expect and no delays out of the altamont pass. a smooth flow for the rest of the bay, as well. overnight construction crews, not really a major concern because the freeways are open in all areas except for getting towards the bay bridge toll plaza and we'll talk about that coming up in the next report. back to you. breaking news. more than 150 people have been hurt when two subway trains collided in south korea's capital this morning. witnesses say one of the trains was stopped at the station just about to depart when it was rear ended by a second train. none of the injuries are

believed to be life threatening. investigators looking into what happened, but this comes just two weeks after that ferry sunk off the coast of south korea killing around. since then the government has been heavily criticized about safety practices. the country's prime minister has stepped down. this story still developing in ukraine. officials say two ukrainian helicopters have been shot down and at least one pilot killed and numerous others hurt. helicopters were shot down after ukraine launched its first major assault against pro-russian forces. nbc has confirmed at least one pilot died and russian tv reports claims that this is actually video of the other pilot who was hurt when his helicopter came down. ukrainian security services says its forces were finding high. a pro-russian spokesperson said one of its militants died

fighting today. peggy bunker will join us with the latest developments and what they mean for the rest of the world. meantime, president obama will meet with german chancellor angela merkel at the white house this morning to talk about the worsening crisis in ukraine. the two have talked about ukraine in the past few weeks. this will be the first time, her first time at the white house in three years. following their meeting, president obama and chancellor merkel will hold a joint news conference in the rose garden this afternoon. happening now, crews are turning dirt, spraying water on hot spots in southern california in hopes of keeping a stubborn wildfire from reigniting. the fire has been burning in rancho cucamunga. it has burned more than 160 acres and at one point forced more than 1,000 people to evacuate. weather has been an issue since the fire started and the crews

face another day of high wind and warm temperatures. 4:33 and the family of a bay area woman who died while zip lining in hawaii are waiting for answers on what caused the accident. she lived in hawaii and worked as a guide as a ziplining company. she was ziplining yesterday morning on maui when she fell 150 feet into a deep ravine. by the time rescuers reached her, it was too late. >> the zipline go through the gulches and so it made it kind of difficult where the body was, where the lady fell. they couldn't access it with the helicopter and they have to carry her off to the side. >> still not clear what happened whether the line snapped or her harness became undone. this is video where she worked. the company offers several different kinds of zipline tours. the company says it's fully cooperating with the police

investigation. congressman eric sowell will inspect the perimeter of san jose internesianal airport. they were asked to assess the perimeter of every airport in the country that has not been done since 2009. last year a teenager hopped a fence and managed to wander the airport undetected and even made it into a wheel well of a plane and road the plane to hawaii. a tsa official said sjc passed a security inspection just weeks before the incident. the only northern california member of the homeland security committee. the man at the center of the clippers controversy is battling prostate cancer. "the new york post" is reporting that 80-year-old donald sterling has had cancer for a long time and seems to have kept it underwraps. he was banned for life from the nba and fined $2.5 million after

a recording of him making racist remarks went public. the league's advisory committee agreed yesterday to move forward as fast as possible to force sterling to sell the team. the head of l.a.'s chapter naacp has stepped down because of the controversy. this month sterling was expected to receive a lifetime achievement award from that organization. even though the group's president leon jenkins rescinded after sterling's comments became public. how he was even in line for that award. sterling donated $5,000 to the chapter in 2010, but had been accused of refusing to rent apartments to latinos and blacks and families with children. a live look outside right now at oracle arena. all is quiet right now, but that wasn't the case, what, five hours ago. thousands of warrior fans maybe heading into work a little late this morning after a long night at the roaracle the warriors held on by a thread, a thread to

game, i'm so happy. that's such fantastic news to be waking up to this morning. looking good right now in oakland 58 degrees to start the day and san francisco at 55 and we are running much cooler than t 24 hours ago. five to ten degrees in some cases and low clouds moving into san francisco and we're not going lot of the marine influence in the inland valleys today, not much at all. temperatures dropping by five to ten degrees and still warm inland and you'll notice a significant cool down at the coast with temperatures falling an additional ten degrees from yesterday and a return of the 60s. let's get right to it. ten degree drop in afternoon temperatures and clouds increase this evening and then we drop off even more so. your sun sets at 7:00. 56 in the evening and 85 degrees for the south bay and 83 for the peninsula and 76 degrees in san francisco and on the ocean side of san francisco, you'll end up in the low 60s for today.

keep that in mind if you live near ocean beach. eight degrees cooler today than tomorrow. temperatures will tumble even more so and getting into the weekend, very slight chance for some showers. i'll tell you about that in my next report. we don't want any problems, mike. >> if they are out there, we'll let you know. looking towards the bay bridge and folks waiting for the cash lanes off to the left and they don't have all the cash toll lanes open right now. flashing lights and a reroute. i don't see it in this shot but let's look over at the maze. construction reported in the books heading towards eastbound 80 and i don't see any reroutes here. if you are forced over towards the bay bridge because of that detour, well, you know that you can turn around at the parking lot that was the overnight detour they had in place. again, we took that look and didn't see any flashing lights. the only issue and traveling around the bay and no problems for the south bay northbound and starting to pick up a few more cars and changing the averages and the yellow blips you see down to 60 miles per hour. no concern there. that orange blob you see up in

welcome back to you. good morning if you're just starting your day, you made it to friday morning. live look outside from san jose this morning. waiting for the sun's arrival. cool down, as well. we'll check in with christina, as well. santa barbara police using a new app to catch the bad guy that allows you to send photos and videos to police as evidence. police say it gives them more of a secure source instead of traditional electronic tips.

move comes after east lavista annual spring break party. that ye this year, that party took a violent turn. santa barbara is the first police agency to actually use this new app. tesla being fined $89,000 for several safety violations related to an industrial accident that left three workers with serious burns. it happened back in november when a press failed spewing hot metal on the workers. one worker spent several weeks in the hospital still recovering at home. cal osha said the equipment was not working properly and also said the workers were not trained properly and were not wearing the required safety protection. tesla says it will appeal the fine. microsoft issuing a security pass to fix a bug found on internet explorer. customers that have automatic updates do not need to do anything otherwise you should apply the fix as soon as

possible. microsoft alerted users over the weekend and used every version of internet explorer to take over computers. here's some unexpected but welcome news. gas prices are expected to fall 50 to 40 cents a gallon. not usually the typical pattern. usually gas prices peak in the spring and then get cheaper towards autumn and this year aaa is predicting a big drop in prices in the spring because lower crude prices, stable u.s. inventories are helping out. here's a break down. the current prices in the bay area, the highest san francisco $4.33, san jose $4.24 and the cheapest is in oakland $4.23. right now the average price in the state overall $4.26. meanwhile, a lot of optimism this morning ahead of the job's report due out in 45 minutes. for the rest of the news before your bell, we turn to bertha coombs live at cnbc world headquarters. bertha, i'm going to go with $217,000. >> all right, i hope you entered

the contest squawk box has a contest you can win a prize every month if you nail the number. the futures right now are pointing to a higher start. we eare going to see a number that is well north of $200,000. april appears to be the month where we saw the fastest pace of job creation in over five months. the number analysts are calling for is $215,000 with the unemployment rate dropping to 6.6%. we'll also be getting factory orders today, as well, and that we're watching for earnings from chevron. the dow pulled back from that record high, starts the day at 16,558, dropping 22 points on thursday and the nasdaq, actually, rose 12 to 4127. it seems to be ethe year of the recall. honda now recalling nearly 25,000 odyssey minivans because side airbags may not deploy in a

crash. the recall affects just the 2014 model. a shorting terminal may have been damaged during assembly. no crashes or injuries have been reported with that problem. general motors, meantime, is going to be asking a bankruptcy judge today to halt lawsuits over the company ignition switch recall. the judge will decide whether gm can be held libel for incidents prior to its 2009 bankruptcy which normally wipes the slate clean for a company. gm admitted it knew about possible defects as far back as 2001. this is going to be a really interesting case as far as legal precedence, scott, because if the company knew when they filed for bankruptcy and that's since they were using bankruptcy to protect themselves from that liability, at least that's what a lot of folks argue. see what the court decide. >> bertha coombs, thank you much, have a good weekend. >> if the old gm is responsible and there is no gm those

families will be left with nothing. if that's what the judge decides. one thing we're following this morning, the cool down. >> it's amazing. >> you know, temperatures are up and down. good thing the gas prices aren't as extreme, though, as our temperature fluctuations because as we head throughout the next couple days. just, in fact, as we climb, we're going to fall. temperatures this morning in the upper 50s to low 60s. i can tell you right now, though, five to ten degrees cooler. getting to sleep overnight probably a little bit easier. in san francisco one caveat we didn't have any wind. a lot of people, pretty warm out there. they're happy to know about the fog returning to the coast. you can see that here from our live cameras. 76 degrees in san francisco and 87 for the east bay and 85 degrees much cooler today down from 94 yesterday in the south bay. here's where we're headed as we head into our weekend. look at these numbers. hard to beat these numbers. peninsula 72 degrees on saturday and 71 just one degree of warmth. as we get into the second half

of your weekend, north bay, beautiful weekend up in wine country and a lot of people headed up there and a lot of events happening as we get into this weekend as well. so, let's get right to it. sunday 2:00 a.m., we do have a slight chance for showers. way north of sonoma county, most of that activity is expected, however, we're fair game for a little bit of drizzle, light shower activity to move over to the north bay and maybe the coast as far south as marine county and that's pretty interesting to go from record heat to showers over the course of just three days. as we head into your weekend, comfortable conditions by next week staying nice and level, actually getting some average weather for this time of year. and that means it will be nice. we're going to talk about some of the events happening this weekend and get away forecast. two alaskan troopers including one that was featured on the show "alaska state troopers" has been shot and killed in a remote village. they went to tanama to try to

follow up on a report that someone had brandished a firearm in that village. no roads leading into that little village and the troopers had to fly in and officials are not saying exactly what led to their deaths and one person has been detained. senior officials from malaysia, osstralia and china will meet in finding the missing malaysia airline jet. the challenges are huge and the search may take another 8 to 12 months. now hearing audio recordings of the flight crew right before 370 disappeared. >> malaysian 370. >> malaysian 370 contact. >> recently the malaysian government released a report saying the vietnamese controls did not tell malaysia the plane

was missing until 17 minutes after it disappeared from radar. experts say that's too long. it's now been eight weeks and still no sign of the wreckage has been found. this morning, investigators say they prevented an unimaginable tragedy in their words after foiling a teenager's plot to kill his family and bomb two schools in minnesota. it all happened, started with a tip earlier this week. someone reported seeing a suspicious person near a storage building it turned out to be a 17-year-old during a search of the storage building officers found guns and materials to make bomb that he allegedly planned to use in the attack. according to the police, the teen said he intended to kill as many students as he could. next year marks one year since three women managed to escape a cleveland home where they were held captive for a decade. this morning one of the survivors, michelle knight, will tell her story on "today" show. she talks about her dark past, how it's made her stronger and also using a model of her

i suppose. you have to watch out, they're animals. anything can happen. a teenager from maine found that out the hard way. he wanted to take a selfie with a squirrel but the squirrel wasn't as friendly. >> i found a little squirrel and i started making this clicking noise with my tongue. >> and, yes, didn't work out so well. the squirrel jumped on his back and went down his shirt. luckily that teenager was not hurt, but to add to insult it was his mother who took the picture of the squirrel and she posted them online. >> she should have taken a camera and turned around -- that's what i'm thinking. kid in the background, yeah. >> when squirrels attack, watch out, mike. >> thanks mom. squirrel is attacking your son. northbound 101. i probably would have done the same thing. northbound 101 up top corner left side. the onramp and there is no
