whether it caused a crash at an air show. it happened at travis air force base. the pilot 77-year-old edward was killed but witnesses say something went wrong during a low-flying acrobatic maneuver called "cutting the ribbon" it is a stunt he has performed numerous times. >> i saw the former inverted move and he was flying approximately 40 to 50 feet over the runway and then his plane stair stepped down and then impacted the runway in an inverted formation upside down. >> several minutes had passed before the flames started and they started in the rear section and worked forward and that was that. >> the event has not been held in three years, so it was packed with thousands of people. no spectators were hurt. now, friends of andreni say he

was flying since he was a teenager and had 25 years of experience flying in air shows. officials in live oak high school preparing for the possibility of cinco de mayo protests. crews installed a large fence around the south bay school in hopes of shielding students from today's rallies. protesters may be coming from as far away as los angeles. the rallies stem from an incident on campus back in 2010. a small group of students wore american flag t-shirts on cinco de mayo four years ago in response to students celebrating the holiday. the students were sent to the principal office out of concern for their safety and left school early. the school district uploaded a video saying they're over this flag controversy at the school and that the rest of the world would move on, too. >> we want them to know that the incident in 2010 happened in the past and we want them to know

we're beyond that. >> the t-shirt issue did go through the courts which decided they need to keep the students safe. morgan hill police will have extra officers near the school today to make sure those protests remain peaceful. also new this morning, one man dead and another on the run after an argument got out of hand in richmond. the shooting happened last night near martin luther memorial park near 580. a neighborhood dispute between three men escalated into a shooting. one man died at the scene and another shot in the leg and should be okay. investigators have not released a suspect description. that was richmond's second homicide in two days. investigators identified the person who was killed saturday as 31-year-old brussard of san francisco. he was driving on 580 and someone fired from another vehicle and shot into his car. the car hit the center divider and overturned. all eastbound lanes of the freeway in richmond were shut

down for a while. at 4:34 new details this morning about what happened moments before police officers shot and killed the man in dublin. shooting happened just after 6:00 last night near amador valley boulevard. officers were called to the home for domestic disturbance. a man attacked one of the officers with a baseball bat. the officers shot at the suspect several times killing him. the shooting is now under investigation. this week investigators hope an autopsy will help them learn more about a body found near stinson beach. tourists were walking on the beach yesterday when they spotted the body. the body was so badly decomposed. it is not clear if it was a man or a woman. investigators say they have a pretty good description of a man who broke into an elderly couple's sunnyvale home and robbed them at gun point.

he says she sat on her front porch for a while and the man seemed frantic, she couldn't understand him and apologized and shut the door. the next day the man broke into the house and robbed the couple. >> think about your mother, would you like someone to treat your mother and do to your mother and father what what you did to us? and you took from us things that meant a lot to us that we can never replace. >> the man took her purse, all her jewelry from a case in the bedroom and snatched a necklace off her neck and rings right off her fingers. he also took a watch from her husband that he was wearing. here's a description of the man they are looking for. hispanic with a full trimmed beard about 35 and 40 years old. last seen wearing a green t-shirt and a dark jacket. the man accused of setting the old kntv studio on fire is scheduled to hear the evidence

against him today. flesher pleaded not guilty to arson and first degree burglary charges last month. today he'll be back in court for his preliminary hearing. the homeless man started a fire in the building burning it to the ground. investigators do not believe anyone was inside when that fire started. the alameda county district will consider charging extra fees for people who use extra water. right now most people in the district pay one flat fee per gallon no matter how much water they use but the proposal would change that. it would impose three rates for each two month billing cycle. people who use up to 16 water units would not have to pay a surcharge. a unit, by the way, is about 748 gallons. 16 units is close to 12,000 gallons of water. those who use 16 to 30 would have to pay as high as $1.94 making the total charge per unit

$5.31 and people who use more than 30 units would pay an additional $2.93. basically the more water you use, the more you're going to get charged. two months ago the school district that got residents to cut back but also it lowered the water district's income because people were using less water. >> quicker showers, let's get it going. let's check the forecast right now. meteorologist christina loren. >> more numbers for you this morning. these are good numbers. you know what, grab your umbrella this morning in the south bay and showers coming our way and same for the north bay. i think you will get by without any shower activity in the east bay. we're starting out this cinco de mayo with mid to upper 50s for the most part and let me take you through your day in detail. we stop the clock for you as we head through the 6:00 hour. mostly cloudy conditions and then as we progress this afternoon, look at this, showers on the way and not get a lot of

reason we didn't see any slowing just south of the camera where we didn't see it behind the trees. right behind foster city boulevard little slowing at the scene and activity just off the roadway and flashing lights where i arrive and distraction for folks getting off the bridge and rest of the bay moves very smoothly and light volume of traffic and just a slight build out of the altamont pass and no slowing by the time you get to dublin and an earlier crash north 680 around main street has cleared without any slowing. and through san jose we'll give you a live look and 101 northbound at 680 and no delays for the south bay and no incidents on the road as far as any crashes or disabled vehicles. back to you. still ahead on "today in the bay" surprising news about the safety of baby gates. a circus act goes terribly wrong as eight acrobats plunge to the ground.

welcome back, everyone. very good monday morning to you. also cinco de mayo, as well. taking a live look outside. all is quiet right now by the sap center downtown san jose. dozens of people are recovering after a stampede inside a las vegas casino. it happened right after the floyd mayweather fight at the mgm grand saturday night. officials say the crowd thought a loud noise was a gunshot and everyone started panicking. part of a wall failed causing a loud bang. most of the injuries were cuts and bruises and sprains. this morning investigators trying to figure out what caused a circus accident which sent eight acrobats crashing to the

ground. we want to warn you, the video is hard to watch. all happened in front of families and children during the circus in rhode island. the performers were all women performing what officials call a human sand lechandelier. they were hanging from their hair on a high wire. that wire snapped sending them 40 feet to a dancer below. witnesses said they were stunned. >> we thought it was part of the show and then all of a sudden you see the cable break. >> it was scary. it was. it was really scary. >> nine performers suffered serious injuries and mostly broken bones and all are expected to survive. this morning's show was called off and two others were canceled yesterday. baby gates may not be keeping your kids safe. a new study shows nearly 2,000 kids in the u.s. go to the emergency room every year from injuries associated with the safety gates. that's three times the amount seen 20 years ago. most were from children falling through or climbing on the

gates. they were not serious. but researchers at nationwide children's hospital in ohio say parents need to take more steps to protect their kids. it's best to use bolted safety gates instead of pressure mounted ones especially at the top of the staircase. after weeks of sky-rocketing prices the cost of lime starting to drop. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn to courtney reagan just in time for cinco de mayo. >> exactly, perfect timing. futures are lower after stocks slipped on friday after the unrest in ukraine overshadowed the job's report and for data today on the health of the services sector and later this week the focus on washington as testify about the economy on capitol hill. on friday the dow fell nearly 45 points and the nasdaq slipping three to 4123. a reason to celebrate on this cinco de mayo.

those temperatures soar as we get into your mother's day weekend. take a closer look at that coming up. fire crews in oklahoma say 150 homes are in the path of a wildfire. it's already destroyed several homes. killed one person. the fire began as a controlled burn yesterday afternoon and that got out of control. six homes burned to the ground, several others sheds and shacks and other vehicles were destroyed. so far 3,000 acres have burned and investigators say a 56-year-old man who refused to evacuate was found dead in his home last night after the fire passed through. right now the fire about 75% contained. we do have breaking news just moments ago a strong earthquake shook a large portion of northern thailand. officials say the quake had a magnitude of 6.0 and was relatively shallow less than five miles underground. so far no reports of serious injuries or damage. also new details coming in this morning about a strong

earthquake that rolled through tokyo. 17 people were injured in the aftermath there. it happened just after 5:00 this morning local time when many people were still in bed. officials say that quake had a magnitude of 6.0 felt across a wide area of japan. it's the strongest earthquake felt in that area since aftershocks since the magnitude 9 quake and tsunami in 2011. officials from malaysia, australia and china are trying to figure out what to do next in the search for malaysian airlines flight 370. starting on wednesday, all the data that's been collected since the plane went down two months ago will be reexamined. investigators also want to make sure the patch of ocean, the floor that they're searching is actually the right space and they're asking governments and private contractors for specialized equipment that can dive deeper than unmanned submarines that spent weeks scouring parts of the sea floor. it is 4:50. the oscar pistorius murder trial resumed today after a two-week
