redwood road late saturday night when they found two men fighting and the deputies reportedly ordered the men to stop and get to the ground. and, instead, investigators say these two men and this woman attacked the deputies. one deputy still in the hospital. doctors say he will likely need reconstructive surgery to his face. the other deputy was released from the hospital over the weekend and all three suspects face charges. that petaluma meat processing plant behind the recall of nearly 9 million pounds of beef earlier this year back in the headlines. cnn reporting the rancho feeding corporation bought dairy cows they knew were sick and processed them when government inspectors were not there. its report said one of the government inspectors representing the was having an with the plant foreman. today a morgan hill high school is bracing for protests on cinco de mayo. it stems from an incident a few

years ago when students wore american flag t-shirts to class. "today in the bay" bob redell joins us live with more on how school officials will shield students from these rallies. good morning, bob. >> good morning to you, scott. very hard to miss. behind me is live oak high school and you'll see they installed a temporary chain link fence and they surrounded the front part of the campus and we've seen at least one no trespassing sign on there, as well. that is what they're doing to shield students from the expected protests expected to take place later this morning when school starts. they plan to be out here when school starts to protest a recent federal court decision that upheld the school's decision back in 2010 to send home four students who wore american flag clothes to school on cinco de mayo in response to students celebrating the mexican holiday. the school banned the shirts arguing it is going to inflame tension and the flag-wearing students took the district to

court. the ninth circuit court of appeals side would the school. that gilroy morgan patriots group i mentioned they plan what they say will be a silent protest, as many as 50 members of their group holding american flags to show support for those students first amendment rights. take a look at this. new youtube video uploaded by the school district within the past couple days. features former students talking to current students. students in the video say they have gotten over it and they are encouraging the adults to do the same. >> we want them to know that the incident that occurred in 2010 happened in the past and we want them to know that we're beyond that. >> now, there is another group called we the people morgan hill which supports the school's decision to ban the shirts. morgan hill police have been in touch with we the people and the patriots group say that both sides have been cooperative and expect them to be lawful.

that being said, police along with the school district will have extra officers and staff out here to make sure that this morning's protest have as little impact on the teaching of the kids here, as little impact as possible. reporting live here in morgan hill live outside oak mont high school. >> thank you. a live look at downtown san jose, as well. police expecting to close parts of the downtown area today to try to maintain control of the crowds turning up for cinco de mayo. yesterday police closed down santa clara street near city hall and they have been out in force over the last couple years to try to prevent what happened in 2007 when crowds tried to tip over cars and cause other problems. breaking news just coming into our newsroom right now we're hearing the target ceo has just resigned. this in the wake of the huge data breach that happened earlier this year over the christmas holiday. also, interestingly enough, a lot of changes going on within

the higher ranks of target and they also had a chief information officer that was recently named last week. we'll continue to follow updates on this story this morning. also, have you heard about this, a horrific circus incident that injured nine during a circus show. it has investigators wondering this morning what went wrong. it all happened in front of a huge crowd. peggy bunker here with the story. >> horrific, indeed, nine circus workers were injured performing this act, a human chandelier. they were forming on sunday as part of the ringling brothers circus. many phones out to record this unusual act and the whole thing was caught on camera. the video of the fall is tough to walk. >> and it there it is. you see the curtain from around

revealing the performers. hanging from their hair fall 20 to 25 feet to the ground injuring a ninth person on the floor. families and kids witnessing this horrific fall. >> it was scary. it was. it was really scary. >> we thought it was part of the show and then all of a sudden, you see the cable break. >> now ambulances were quick to be on seen taking a total of 11 people to the hospital and many with broken bones and one of the injured required immediate surgery. the circus is telling us they were from ukraine, brazil and bulgaria and looking to fly in family members of those that were injured to rhode island. a spokesperson for the circus told "today" show this is relatively a new act. they started performing in january of this year. they go through safety checks at each stop and have no idea why this particular performance failed. a closer look at that hair hang apparatus which is the other

shocking element of this story, laura. >> literally they hang by their hair. >> when you see how they hook them up to it is a bit cringe worthy. >> pretty strong, but i don't know how strong. thanks a lot, peggy. 5:06. meteorologist christina loren joins us with a look at the forecast. good morning. >> good morning to you. temperatures comfortable out there. mostly in the 50s to kick off the day and couple 40s and 48 in the north bay and meanwhile as we head throughout this afternoon, temperatures aren't going to be able to climb by all that and that is because we have a little disturbance coming through the bay area. 5:07 now. take a look at your temperatures and right now in the 50s headed towards the 60s. 70 in the north bay and 64 degrees in san francisco. so, here's the deal, my friends. we've got some changes coming our way. starting today, a little shower activity expected. i know, fifth day of may, probably the last thing that you would think about for cinco de

mayo. that's exactly what we're talking about, especially on the south bay. all of this is slated to clear out of here as we head to tonight and then the changes continue. cool week headed our way, especially compared to last week. today is the coolest as we head throughout this afternoon temperatures only climb to the 50s and then by mid-week, temps around average and then the heat cranks as we head into the end of the week and mother's day weekend. i'll tell you what's going on for you and mom this year. coming up, let's check your drive and say happy monday to mike inouye. >> we did have a backup until all those cash lanes opened and now no one is waiting, you don't have to wait more than a few second and a smooth drive for the fastrak drivers. a fender bender across the span right around the treasure island off ramp and that has cleared as the bridge crew got there quickly. just the beginning of a build for the east shore freeway coming off the san mateo bridge and still has activity there as

b.a.r.t. police stopped that train and looked for the attacker but didn't arrest anyone. the man who was stabbed is expected to be okay. police in union city have released the sketch of a man involved in a violent robbery last month. this man walked up to someone shopping at the complex on dakota road on april 7th he demanded money when the victim handed over the cash he was sprayed in the face with pepper spray. officers describe the suspect as hispanic between 25 and 30 years old. 5'10" with a medium build and a goatee. a candidate for next alameda controller will be in court charged with lying on campaign papers. prosecutors say she lists her address as san leandr but lives in danville. the 49-year-old is expected to be arraigned today on six felony charges including perjury and voter fraud. she's not commenting on the charges. new this morning, the head of products and innovation at

sap has stepped down. left immediately for unknown personal reasons. served as sap's chief technology officer from 2007 until he joined the board in 2010. jurors will be back inside a san jose courtroom this morning ironing out the final details in their verdict against the apple/samsung trial. they will deliberate on a minor matter that could award more money to apple. on friday the eight-person panel determined samsung copped some of apple's smartphone features. far less than the $2.2 billion that apple was asking for. the jury also found apple guilty of using one of samsung's patents, but awarded the korean company only $160,000. apple and samsung are now suing each other in courts around the world based on this recent jury decision. tesla was forced to cut its

weekend job fair short because too many people showed up. hundreds of people showed up on friday to try to get a job. it got so crowded, the company was asked by police to wrap up after just two hours. tesla wants to give everyone a chance and now anticipating applications on its career website. the san francisco company reportedly working on a mute button. right now there's no good way to hide the tweets you do not want without unfollowing or blocking a user. the verge reports the mute button will silence users you still want to follow, but you don't want to see on your timeline. those users won't know that you have muted them and so i have one friend who live blogs giants games and it drives me crazy. >> muted. >> yeah. >> unfortunately, he could be watching this very program. >> yeah, you know you who are. yeah. >> you know what, i won't mute

today, stop that clock on your futurecast. little shower activity and like i said before bringing showers into the south bay and into the east bay right around 3:00 to 6:00. then things start to clear out of here as we head throughout the second half of the evening and see a nice, sunny day tomorrow. so, cooler than average temperatures courtesy of that area of low pressure that comes through today. just a weak disturbance and then temperatures start to soar, but not until we get into this weekend. finally, a nice break. spring-like temperatures will not last forever. we'll talk about the changes in my next report. here's mike and the drive. >> 5:17 and so the south bay is very clear right now and that is not going to last long easter. we'll show you the map that we're talking about. folks who know about it. 680 up towards 880 we see about 5:45 and kicks in about an hour from now. smooth drive and light volume of traffic so far as you can

predict. over here, a little bit of a build both directions as you head towards that dublin interchange and a few more cars hitting the road and eastbound 580 that is the traditional pattern over here and little slowing and 580 westbound all the way back at grant line road and reports of a vehicle or a truck it sounds like with busted brakes that is in one of your lanes and cause slowing coming into livermore out of the altamont pass. good new physical you're traveling westbound towards dublin. no problem for the walnut creek interchange and 24 over in towards the maze and you pick your pack and you're basically at your speed limit or predictable. and a quick look there and traffic here and as well as the north bay southbound 101 and 37 westbound. no delays up here, guys. back to you. new video this morning of pro-russian demonstrators storming a building in ukraine. almost 1,000 people storm the officers of the military

yesterday. freeing 67 people detained after last week's deadly clashes. no staff or security were inside the building at that time. they beat a man thought to be inside the building at the time. no word of what happened to that man. in hong kong, 11 people are missing during a collision between a cargo vessel and a container ship. the rescue crews are now searching the waters off of hong kong for other possible survivors. vatican officials will appear before a united nations committee today as the international group investigates the child protection. this is the second time this year the vatican has been questioned about the global priest sex abuse scandal. the u.n. is looking into whether the vatican has violated the u.n. convention against torture. the vatican is only responsible for treating within the confines of vatican city.

that's what l.a. mayor eric garsetti told "face the nation" on sunday. he urged sterling to apologize after the tape was released but the clippers owner does not seem to realize what was wrong with his remarks. sterling reportedly believes he is a good person who should remain owner of the team. mayor says he will urge people to boycott games if sterling keeps the team. over the weekend the nba announced it will appoint a ceo to supervise the team's operations. new information about what caused that computer glitch at l.a.x. that ended with hundreds of canceled and delayed flights. a u.s. spy plane somehow fried air traffic control computers forcing the airport to shut down. the spy plane passed through l.a. air space and overloaded the computers last wednesday. the glitch forced the faa to call a ground stop. peyton manning honors another professional athlete. the baseball star he made a special trip to see.

>> i'm scott mcgrew. police prepare for cinco de mayo partiers. last night the streets were closed. police say they're ready for those large crowds today. police have stepped up enforcement after what happened back in 2007 when crowds tried to tip over cars and cause other problems. in the meantime, it could get loud and noisy outside a south bay school. protests are being planned over an american flag controversy that happened years ago on campus. "today in the bay" bob redell live in morgan hill with details on how school officials are trying to shield students from the rally. bob, not the students protesting, but adults outside the school. >> we just got done speaking with the superintendent of morgan hill unified school district who tells us that the students have expressed to them, as they wish, the media and the protest groups would stay away from the school. hence the reason why they put up this chain link fence. you can see with the green mesh on it.

times killing him. the shooting still under investigation. investigators say they have a pretty good description of a man who broke into an elderly's couple sunnyvale home and robbed them at gunpoint. dorothy says she first saw the man a day earlier. she says he sat on her front porch for a while before knocking on the door. the man seemed frantic, but she couldn't understand him, so she apologized and shut the door. the next day she says the man broke into the house and robbed the couple. >> thinking about your mother. would you like someone to treat your mother and do to your mother and father what you did to us. and you took from us things that meant a lot to us that we can never replace. >> took her purse and all her jewelry from a case in the bedroom and snatched a necklace off her neck and rings off her fingers. also took a watch her husband was wearing. here's a description, a man

police say they're looking for. hispanic with a full trimmed beard between 35 and 40 years old. about 5'7" last seen wearing a green t-shirt, dark pants and a dark jacket. 5:34. the man accused of setting the old kntv studio on fire is scheduled to hear the evidence against him today. pleaded not guilty to arson and first degree burglary charges last month. today he'll be back in court for his preliminary hearing. police say the homeless man deliberately started the fire in the building burning it to the ground. as well as 30 homeless people often stayed there but they do not believe anyone was inside when that fire first started. investigators say gusty winds may have caused a plane to crash during the bay area air show. this morning ntsb officials will be at travis air force base. that's where we find christie smith with the latest on this investigation. good morning, christie. >> ntsb investigators are

expected to be out here today was it mechanical failure or something else? the winds were about 15 to 20 miles an hour and it does get fairly windy here in the afternoon and just so happens that this air show and plane crash happened about 2:00 p.m. we do have some youtube video of that same airplane doing a maneuver called cutting the ribbon. sort of a loop where the plane goes way down and in this case, it ended up landing, it looked like or crashing but upside down on its roof. but amateur video captures also the smoky images of that fatal plane crash. this was an old plane, a horrible, horrible end to the travis air force base. and the pilot was in the middle of that maneuver, something he had done many times before when something went wrong. the pilot was 77-year-old eddy andrieini and he has been a stunt pilot for 25 years and been flying since he was 16

years old. >> i saw the performer perform an inverted move and he was flying approximately 40 to 50 feet over the runway and then his plane kind of stair stepped down and impacted the runway in an inverted formation upside down. >> and the crash happened on the second day of the air show and on the first day it drew about 85,000 spectators. no spectators were injured in this. of course, the show had to be canceled. the base has prepared the field for ntsb investigators to take over. reporting live at travis air force base, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thanks so much. 5:37. let's check your monday morning forecast with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >> good morning to you. new week and whole new forecast to tell you about and some interesting things to note. starting today, we have a slight chance for some showers starting with the 50s. overall, not too cold out there. 55 degrees to kick off the new

workweek in san jose. hopefully you had a great weekend. and things are looking good. cinco de mayo. some people still continuing into the weekend across the bay area and a lot of celebrations happening outdoors for today. cooler than average weather and some pretty fierce wind, as well. let's talk about that wind right off the bat. that wind still coming off the pacific and pointing from the ocean to the inland valleys. it is going to be cooler than average and this wind is actually going to pick up. remember, when you look at your futurecast here, you're looking for the warmer colors. an indication of the 30 to 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts and as we head through 5:00 p.m. tonight. that wind will drop off and cooler colors coming in and 5:00 p.m. tomorrow only to pick right back up and stronger for tomorrow. so, if you're someone who did have to deal with the wind over the weekend, downed trees down in gilroy and more on the way today and tomorrow and then see the winds taper off as we progress throughout the week.

temperatures cooler than average to the tune of five degrees in some cases. upper 60s just about everywhere. this is what you can expect throughout the week and today the coolest sunshine, temps around average for the mid-section of the week and really nice conditions and then that heat cranks. we'll talk about a return to the 80s as we get into the end of the week and mother's day weekend. talk about that coming up in a little bit. good morning and happy monday to mike inouye. hang with me for just a second. word from b.a.r.t. a 30-minute delay, folks. this is a big delay. normally we hear of a five to ten-minute delay. now, fremont is the end of the line at the south end all trains coming into fremont reporting that big of a delay. some sort of equipment problem on the tracks. more details from b.a.r.t. and their website doesn't give much more information than that. again, we're following up with them. meanwhile fremont traffic flow and flows very nicely for 880 southbound and no problems on

"today in the bay" tracie potts is live on capitol hill. the u.s. has promised to help. tracie, this is a story that i think is just terribly underreported. >> this is the shocking thing about this. it happened three weeks ago. these girls were missing for three weeks. take a look in d.c. and other areas, too, like new york and l.a. and even london. protests. people that want to bring more attention to these more than 200 missing girls who were snatched right out of their school and haven't been seen since. an islamic fundamentalest group believed to have taken these girls and possibly sold them into marriage, sold them as child brides and part of the protest has to do with the fact that some people don't think the nigerian government is doing enough to find these girls. just this morning we learned that a couple of protesters in nigeria protesting over this were arrested, allegedly, the president's wife said that she didn't, she thought this was an

effort to make her husband look bad. he had taken a lot of heat for not doing more. you noted the united states, secretary of state john kerry now says if the u.s. is ready to help with intelligence, with forensic and with investigative techniques to try to find out where these girls are. >> tracie potts live in washington, thank you. it is 5:44. at least three performers in critical condition this morning after a circus accident in front of an audience full of children. today, thanks for tuning in. i get to tell you that it is. over parts of the bay area. show you your futurecast. so cool to have all the tools at my disposal. you'll see a mostly clear sky to kick off the day in san jose and clouds will increase steadily as we head throughout the day today. temps mostly in the 50s to start and lots of clouds to start over the golden gate bridge especially by 9:00 a.m. and a few showers possible over the higher elevations and right at the immediate coast for today. everything will clear out. as we head into this evening and then as that system moves out of here, the wind will pick up and pretty fierce tonight into tomorrow. so, i want to put that on your radar and help you plan ahead for the day. i'll show you that futurecast in just a moment. temperatures for today. temperatures mostly in the upper 60s and cooler than average and not too bad, not too bad at all. the east bay same for you. san francisco, mid-60s and hit the 70s up in the north bay for today. low 70s up in sonoma county. here we go, we show you the

futurecast models. bringing in the shower activity mostly between 3:00 and 6:00. a lot of the models agree, little bit activity here down through the santa cruz mountains and also the western facing slopes surrounding san jose. that system clears out of here and leaves behind cooler than average temperatures jusz about all week long and then those temps soar as we get into your mother's day weekend. mid-70s by wednesday and then this weekend much warmer. let's check your drive, here's mike. >> take you out to this system and look at the bay area. a smooth roadway system and nothing and i do want to shout out for the b.a.r.t. system 30-minute delays reported coming in southbound and that is your end of the line. fremont. equipment problems reported on the track. that is the only detail from b.a.r.t. right now. a delay reported and the rest of the system reporting on time for the time being. now, we'll zoom into your slower spots. northbound 101 on the roadways north of 680 and traditional

build up towards 880 and clear and that's the international airport down in the south bay. folks know about that. a crash, a fender bender there on highway 84 between 580 and stanley. we'll watch for activity and get more detail on that. so far a typical pattern here and the same thing headed towards the dublin interchange and a smooth, slower build towards livermore and get a burst and that will kick in over the next few. over here the walnut creek interchange off of 242 and coming out of antioch for highway 4 and approaching the bay bridge and still a little slower on the maze. foster city side of the san mateo bridge we have an earlier crash that has activity off to the shoulder. we'll end with a look at the bay bridge and end with the live shot and cash lanes backing out and fastrak all right and gentle build and little slowing through eme emeryville. back to you.

dozens of people recovering after a stampede inside a las vegas casino. this happened after the floyd mayweather madano fight saturday night. the crowd thought a loud noise was a gunshot and everyone started panicking. part of a wall fell causing a loud bang. 60 people were hurt and 24 taken to the hospital. most of the injuries were cuts, bruises and sprains. the countdown to the final concert at the stick is officially on at 10:00 this morning tickets go on sale for paul mccartney's farewell to candlestick show. tickets range from about $50 to $275. but, of course, they could go for thousands on the secondary market. the show is august 14th, that's a thursday. it's the fitting finale for the park since it was the site of the beatles final show in 1966. >> that will be a good one.

good monday morning to you, it's 5:54. the warriors will clean out their lockers this week after a heartbreaking loss to the clippers over the weekend. this morning we're learning the fight didn't end on the court. after saturday's game the bad blood spilled into the tunnel. witnesses say someone from the clippers yelled about how quiet the warriors locker room was. some of the warrior players came out to, well, they came out.
