new this morning, crews are cleaning up a big mess in a san francisco apartment this morning. it is the result of a car trying to escape police before slamming into the sign of a building. today in the bay's christie smith joins us where police are searching for the driver who ran away from that scene. >> reporter: they are still searching for the suspect. that car almost made a direct hit into the garage. there is serious damage to the apartment building. this started when san francisco police saw what they thought was a stolen car. officers tried to follow it and

pull it over. the driver started speeding through the streets. no suspects in custody and the two people injured in this are expected to recover. reporting live in san francisco today in the bay. >> the person who shot and killed in his neighbor's apartment, went to the wrong floor looking for this own apartment well after midnight after a night of celebrating. he ended up inside the wrong

apartment. it is not clear whether he broke in or was allowed in. but he ended up shot to death. the district attorney did not file charges. a decision the victim's family says is a mistake. >> the man that shot my brother be free while my family is living in that building while my neighbors are living in that building who have kids. it is not safe. >> under california law you can defend yourself in your own law if you feel threatened. >> a transgendered student will not face charges. battery charge was dropped after 16 year old completed a conflict resolution class. she reported bullying to an at m administrator days before the

>> reporter: it does not belong here. not in this urban setting where it doesn't belong. it is our understanding it will be released some time this morning. you look at this video. this is that 110 pound mountain lion. it has been sedated and is in a cage. not clear what caused that minor wound. you also might notice they had a tracking collar on it. the bay area p puma project wil be releasing the project in an open space as far away from civilization. not easy though. authorities don't know why this mountain lion wan terred dered w and someone first saw it around 6:00 last night near a park forcing police to issue a

shelter in place for the neighborhood. 30 minutes later it was seen going into the parking garage. where it hid underneath a vehicle while police surrounded the area in case the big cat made a move. >> it stayed in the same position and once the tranquilizer took effect it laid down. we were able to pull it out from under neither the van. >> the thought of a mountain lion here in mountain view in this very suburban setting drew a crowd ignoring the shelter that was put in place. but we p presume that they had their guns drawn. reporting live.

from nbc bay area. this is today in the bay. >> very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. finally getting some sleep after police squared off with a mountain lion for hours. there you see him spotted after 6:00 last night near the park in mountain view. it previously disappeared and showed back up in a parking garage. >> bob, what is the plan now for the big cat? >> we put him back in the wild. that is what the puma project is telling us. perhaps no one will be able to figure out why the mountain wandered into mountain view. and how did it get into the location without being noticed into late last night. you can see it is in the cage.

it is sedated and caught last night. not clear how it received that minor wound whether it was related to that shot. as you can see it is safe for the community and save for the s big watt itself. they will be releasing the cat in the peninsula and open says as far away for civilization as far away as humanly possible. forting police to issue a shelter in place for the neighborhood. and 30 minutes later with a scene going into the parking garage behind me here. where it hid under a vehicle you could see it underneath i believe it is an suv peering out towards the activity and the police surrounding it with guns and rifles gone. it was there for several hours

and you are wondering why it was there for several hours. game and fish wardens had an issue with that. they were able to get in there and fire it and see date it. there were a lot of opportunities for it not to go well. they were able to hold it down into a natural cage. once we determined where it was and got the right equipment with the scene. several of our officers were able to put a plan together to approach safely which they did and were able to get into a position where they could tr tranquilize the cat. >> even though were was a quote unquote shelter in place. as many as 300 people thinking that since place had their guns drawn thinking it was okay to be

>> san jose investigating what appears to be a deadly case of road rage two cars nearly collided near the mobil p home park near sully. one of the drivers got out of the car and started an argument. he died at the hospital and police are still looking for the shooter. >> new this morning, san francisco police searching for a suspect who took off after crashing their car into the side of apartment building. another person hit a car in the city's marina district. we go live where all that remains is the boarded up garage door. >> reporter: police are looking for the driver respondible for this mess that you see across the street there. driver crashed into that apartment building and ran a

couple of blocks away. but not before hitting a car and a person. that car had to be towed out here. about 10:00 last night after a dangerous and wild night after police spotted a car on bay street that they believed was stolen. the driver took off. driving all over the road and hit a man near franklin and chestnut and hit a car all in front of witnesses who couldn't believe what they were seeing. the people in the car in good enough shape to get out and run away on foot from the scene. no suspects in custody. we were told that the two people who were hurt in this were expected to make a full recovery. live today in the bay. >> police say the man who crashed into a south bay

restaurant may have had a d diabetic issue while he was driving. the car hit gas pipes. the driver was taken to the hospital but we do not know how seriously he was hurt. >> today a state supreme court could put a stop to the trucking of crude oil. it is transferred to trucks for the transfer to refineries. the city council is called on state and federal leaders to keep new rules of the highly flammable fuel through city streets. tonight the landmark commission will decide to save the winchester domed theaters. there are still more hurdles to be cleared. the city council will have to take up the issue again and then the final decision comes down to
