smoothly and a very light volume of traffic underneath that 680 interchange and we do have reports of some sort of crash or disabled vehicle. chp is still heading out there to check it out. obviously, no slow down just yet but blips of yellow around the bay as we see road crews and just a few more cars starting to hit the road. no big alarm. look over here towards 580 eastbound heading out of livermore towards the altamont and the westbound construction a slower moving crew but past the interchange where we had slowing just a few moments ago, guys. breaking news out of ukraine where 11 troops were killed. pro-russian insurgents attacked a military checkpoint about 20e miles south of the city of denesk. 30 ukrainian troops were hurt in the attack and some reportedly in grave conditions.

the pro-russian insurgents reportedly stole weapons off the dead and injured. another story still developing a series of bomb blasts killed 31 people at a market in china. at least 90 other people have been hurt. two suvs crashed through barriers into a market just before 8:00 in the morning. witnesses say the vehicles drove into crowds of people and passengers threw bombs out the window. this hap not far from kazakhstan. the deadliest attack since 2009 in the province. china has blamed recent knife and bomb attacks on separatist militants. new this morning, thailand's army chief says the country's military is taking over power in a coup to restore order. followed six months of political deadlock and turmoil. declared martial law on tuesday will now take control of the country's administration.

the political meetings have been meeting for the past few days. just within the past couple minutes the thai army announced a nationwide curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. closer to home also new this morning waiting to learn more about the condition of a woman stabbed on the san jose trail overnight. it happened on a trail near the virginia light rail station not far from the downtown area. so far police are not releasing any information on a motive or a suspect. we'll continue to follow this story and bring you more details as we get them. a man was incited over night after police officers shot and killed a suspect. he taunted officers and harassed a police dog and convinced others to join in. he and more than 100 other people filled the streets in response to a police shooting on monday. officers shot and killed a man because they say he lunged at them with garden shears. now, video of that shooting was

leading to last night's protest. 4:45 3 and the woman who deputies say grabbed a little boy by a neck at a santa rosa elementary school is expected to enter a plea in court today. delia garcia-bratcher may talk to the media for the first time. she's accused of walking into the olivet elementary school campus and without permission and putting her hands around the neck of a boy last friday. she thought the boy was bullying her daughter. the man accused of holding a woman against her will for ten years in southern california. arrested monday after the now 25-year-old woman reached out to police. investigators say garcia kidnapped his girlfriend's 15-year-old daughter ten years ago in santa ana, about 30 miles southeast of los angeles. he reportedly raped and beat the girl after she tried to escape several times and told her she would be deported if she went to

police. after years in captivity, investigators say he forced her to marry him and have his child. the girl came to the united states illegally in 2004 to join her mother and sister and she spoke no english. she reportedly decided to contact police after she found her sister on facebook. the family of a soon to be high school graduate hit by a train in san leandro hopes the community will come together to help them bury her daughter. last night 200 people lit candles and sang songs in honor of britany silva. she was walking along the tracks with earbuds when she was hit by a train monday night. she was supposed to graduate in a couple months and attend her final prom on friday. >> she was so young. she had the whole world in the palm of her hands and she is gone and i don't know how you accept that. >> i loved her more than anything in this world. she was family. she may not have been blood, but

she was family. >> right now the family says it doesn't have enough money for britany's funeral. urging people in china town to keep their doors locked after reports of a man targeting elderly neighbors. four robberies all within blocks of each other. they're happening at residential hotels where the suspect manages to get inside people's rooms. police say yesterday the well-dressed man stole a diamond ring from a room on clay. monday investigators say he followed an 88-year-old woman to her room and covered her boumou at the door and took her money and police think earlier the same man posed as an exterminator and hit a different woman and took her cash. >> went into someone's purse and took her money and once the person tried to stop him, he punched her in the stomach. >> police say the suspect is not asian, but sometimes does speak chinese. in san jose police are

looking for a man caught on surveillance video using a shotgun to rob the store. robbery happened on north capital avenue on may 9th and police just released the video today or yesterday. they say the suspect hit the customer in the face with a shotgun and pointed it at a worker and demanded money. police say a get away driver was waiting in a toyota sedan outside and have got away with some cash, but we're not told how much. the cal football player accused of attacking a man on the berkeley campus will be back to hear the evidence against him. 20-year-old drew pleaded not guilty to assault charges, stemming from an alleged beating earlier this month. berkeley police say drew punched another student after the other student's dog reportedly bit drew and drew kicked the dog. drew has been indefinitely suspended from cal's football program. aldon smith will have to wait until the end of july to find out how much time he will spend in jail. yesterday the 24-year-old pleaded no contest to three

felony weapons charges and misdemeanor drunk driving charge. the no contest plea said smith did not technically admit guilt but proceeds guilty as charged. he could spend a little more than four years in jail. exterminators will spend several hours spraying parts of the south bay tonight in hopes of getting rid of musskeetoes carrying the deadly west nile virus. the county is planning to spray insected is near the san jose, campbell border. deadly to mosquitos but not toxic to human and animals. the move comes less than a week after several mosquitos tested positive for west nile. the earliest they ever found the mosquitos in san . check in with christina loren and look at microclimate forecast. >> nice out there for today and overcast start in san jose and

meanwhile fog developing in san francisco and keep that in mind, not enough to slow you down at this point, but we could see that become a factor as we head throughout the next couple hours. overall, looking towards a pretty good-looking day and temperatures cool, coastal clouds to start the day and widespread cloud cover and sunny by 12:00 all across the board and three to five degrees warmer this afternoon and then that comfortable ocean breeze will build as we get into this afternoon, as well. so, we'll talk a little bit about what is to come for this weekend and if you're trying to make outdoor plans, stick around, we'll have that forecast coming up. right now let'schuck your drive and say good morning and happy drive. >> low clouds hovering around may develop in some fog in parts and looking at the bay bridge from emeryville and you can see across the entire span from the east bay and make the towers just disappearing and low clouds on the san francisco side and lights both directions and easy flow right now. the map we'll show you the same

thing for the speed sensors and east shore freeway and the maze also moves very smoothly and no incidents to report throughout the entire east bay quadrant there and lafayette and moving off of 24mooth drive. peninsula moves nicely at the limit and moving across the san mateo and dumbarton and san jose that crash reported and the onramp getting on to the southbound side and not presenting a problem for freeway drivers. that is a blip and cleared up as you're heading into the downtown san jose area. look at the north bay and easy flow of traffic right here and christina talked about north bay fog developing later on in the commute and we'll track that and let you know about any problems. >> what might be a little bit of a problem, busy stretch of interstate 280 near at&t park. going to be closed starting tonight and through memorial day weekend. that means traffic in the city will be worse than usual, especially if you plan on heading to the ball game. here's the area i'm talking

we are learning new details about the accused boston marathon bomber's last few minutes of freedom. documents released overnight by the u.s. attorney's office reveal what tsarnaev wrote in a boat. in them he reportedly wrote that he was jealous of his dead brother, tamerlan. i do not mourn his soul because he is very much alive.

hide in this boat and shed some light on our actions. he also wrote our muslims are one body, you hurt one, you hurt us all. he was charged with using a weapon of mass destruction. the house is expected to pass changes that will put an end to compromised phone records. tell phone companies to hold the records for 18 months. they would let the nsa search them in terror investigators if there is a judicial order. critics of the bill claim it has been gutted to get votes from lawmakers who support the agency's phone records program. a new study shows a possible link between sleep apnea and hearing loss. researchers some 14,000 people found sleep apnea increased a person's risk of both high and low frequency hearing loss by nearly 40%. experts say the connection could be due to inflammation in blood vessels which is common in both conditions. it is a preliminary study and does not prove the sleep disorder causes hearing loss.

an official recall over smoke detectors made be nest labs. they notified half a million customers about the flaw. not a physical recall, but rather a software update approved now by government regulators. the update will disable the nest wave feature the feature that let people temporarily silence an alert by waving a hand near the unit. once nest wave is turned off, company says the alarm will work just fine. general motors is expected to release the results of an internal investigation into the faulty ignition switches in the coming weeks. for that and the rest of the news before the bell, let's turn to seema mody live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, seema. >> good morning, scott. stocks closed essentially at session highs and the markets held their gains after the release of minutes from last week's fed meeting. data from best buy and sears and the dow rose 158 points the best gain in five weeks.

a congressional aide says gmc barra briefed lawmakers on the switch recall. gm could release results into a problem and a plan to compensate victims within a few weeks. barra said gm can't keep up with demand, but should catch up by july. carnival is spending $400 million to reduce air pollution from the diesel engines that powers it more than 670 cruise ships. they'll use scrubbers to cut sulfur dioxide emissions and plug into the electrical grid rather than idle while in port. scott? >> seema mody, thank you very much. >> sometimes we see the big ships plugged in. we're going to check the forecast city by the bay this morning and else where. christina has a look at those temperatures. >> a lot of people coming into town for the holiday weekend.

if you're headed out and about, a look at your travel forecast coming up in just a little bit. right now, let's keep it local. temperatures mostly in the 50s to kick off the day and so close to that weekend now and it's going to be nice, as you know, memorial day, typically known as the unofficial kick off of summertime and we're actually going to climb all the way through sunday and then those temperatures crash on memorial day. i'll show you that forecast in just a moment. 80 degrees for today. not a bad day shaping up today here in the south bay. 79 on the peninsula and 74 for oakland and that fog is going to keep your temperatures nice and cool at the coast. but the warming will continue and you'll notice that. temps soar as we get into sunday and then we have a comfortable memorial day ahead. let me sheyou where we are headed. temperatures in the mid-80s all the way through saturday we bring in up thor 80s by sunday and then as we kick off that holiday, temperatures will fall, but, still, holding on to the 70s. we'll get a stretch of 70s in san francisco from friday through monday. so, it's going to be nice around here. we'll tell you what's happening and we'll have that travel

forecast coming up in a little bit. right now, back to you, scott and laura. happening now thick plumes of smoke covering arizona this morning as crews battle this fire. burning two days, happening in the sedona area at slide rock state park. thousands are preparing for the potential evacuation and hundreds of businesses are threatened and this one burned nearly 4,500 acres and officials do expect this to get worse. so far no reports of any injuries or damage. authorities do not know the exact cause, but they do believe it was caused by people. right now, the u.s. is sending a team of 80 armed forces to help find those ahundreds of kidnapped nigerian girls going to chad, a country that borders nigeria. the team will assist with aircraft mission over northern nigeria covering large forested areas where the girls are believed to be held. the force will remain there until it's no longer needed. last month more than 200 nigerian girls were kidnapped by

islamic extremest group. this morning investigators are investigating two drivers involved in a southern california bus crash that injured dozens of others. happened near the california/arizona border. police say a big rig spilled a load of steel pipes on to the freeway, forcing a charter bus full of students to swerve and then tip over. neither driver was hurt. officials do say the bus driver had a satisfactory safety rating. meanwhile, the truck driver cleared three driving inspections last year, although he had to stop working briefly after one of those inspections but the reasons are not immediately clear. a south bay mother is being honored for her heroic act she delivered a baby from a dying mother in texas. iria wolnick was driving with her family in texas when she saw an suv roll over.

a pregnant woman, her husband and a toddler. she saw the baby was coming out. so she reacted quickly. >> it was a shock. you do what you can with what you have. i had someone's shoe lace and some basic knowledge and haven't had children myself, i guess that thing doesn't scare you. >> isn't that amazing? you know what, she saved that baby. the baby survived but the mother who had just been in the accident did not. the toddler and the children's father suffered some minor injuries. texas law enforcement officials flew out to give her that award. she was traveling to her own mother's funeral when she saw all this happen. >> incredibly traumatic, but a heroen, as well. a postage stamp will be dedicated that white house. >> today will be the first day the stamp is issued.

welcome back to you. time now 4:55. a live look at oracle arena in oakland. the seventh annual sports business award in new york city last night. the giants, meanwhile, waking up a little banged up after last night's win in colorado. starting pitcher matt cain will have an mri on his right hamstring. he left yesterday's game after three hitless innings. the giants are calling it a hamstring strain. we'll know more about the severity of the thing today. it also appears that reliever santiago casilla was headed to the disabled list, as well. he was trying to beat out a ground ball. went down in pain. he was helped off the field
