hill. opposite sides of highway 101 near cochran road. bob redell is live this morning in morgan hill and, bob, they have a pretty good description of this suspect. >> they have a great image of him taken from a surveillance camera here at this target on cochran road. good morning, peggy. you can take a look at it, the most distinguishing characteristic of this young man is the fact that he has a mohawk. according to morgan hill police they consider him to be very armed and dangerous. last night around 9:00 in the parking lot of this target shopping center this man drove up to a woman, a customer and tried to rob her of her purse. she refused. he ended up taking off in his car and we'll now show an image of that car, again, from another surveillance camera's point of view. a white four-door car a dodge neon or chevy cavalier and it has a black bra on the grill. one of those covers that people sometimes put on the front of their cars.
6:02 am
according to police, he then after he failed to rob this woman in the target parking lot went down it cochran across 101 to a subway shop and showed the shotgun there. and ended up robbing that store. took some amount of money and police won't say how much. he has not been caught. again, we'll go back to an image of this man. clearly you can see he's white and he has that mohawk and they believe he's in his 20s. slim build. has a tattoo on his outer left wrist and he was wearing a black punisher t-shirt, green shorts and a black and white shoes. again, that vehicle is either a dodge neon or a chevy cavalier. a white, four-door vehicle. the woman was not hurt and the employee at the subway store wasn't hurt either. although the suspect did get away with some money when he robbed this store. this taking place around the 9:00 time frame last night. >> that surveillance picture certainly will help. thank you so much, bob. an important stretch of interstate 280 in san francisco

mike. you are there. you can see the activity under way. what should drivers know? >> good morning to you. well, drivers are going to have to know that southbound lanes of 280 are closed through the long weekend. they're just going to have to find another way to get around it. while all of this is seismic safety work is going on and that's what you see happening here behind me. what they're telling us is that about 60,000 drivers use the southbound lanes through san francisco each day. what they're doing is replacing hinges that are about a foot below the roadway. they're outdated about 50 years old and caltrans says no one uses this style any more so they have to replace them. so, until tuesday, neighbors, people in town to see a giants game or carnaval or students home for the holiday are going to have to find a lot of company out there on the streets, if they decide to drive. 5 on and off ramps near at&t park to pennsylvania avenue are closed. the options to get around include using public transportation and maybe the
6:47 am
already busy 101 if you use that. caltran says the work has to be done in steps and the demo work is halfway there. >> we anticipate being through before lunch. that's what the demolition part. we're going to remove the hinges and replace them and then pour concrete and hopefully this job will be completed by 5:00 tuesday morning. >> now, he tells me they actually considered leaving one lane open southbound, but then they looked at the models and they figured that would create a seven-mile backup so they certainly didn't want to do that. again, what he said, they're looking at 5:00 a.m. tuesday, but then consider this, it's going to happen, again, fourth of july weekend and labor day. but this time on the northbound lanes. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> good heads up there. a lot of people headed that direction. now, meanwhile, let's check in with mike inouye to make your
6:48 am
weekend a success and what they can do. >> first of all, i'm glad christie smith pointed out they will leave one or two lanes open and people asked why they did that and it would cause confusion. avoid southbound 280 through san francisco or out of the area. from at&t park heading south down past king street and down towards pennsylvania avenue, that's the portion that is closed. you can't use that. 101 conveniently located over here just parallel to the freeway and that's your alternate over here. from at&t park with that home run lasting through the holiday weekend and a lot of traffic getting across city and using sixth street from king over there and that was your best route or pennsylvania avenue alongside that freeway. now, for the rest of your friday commute looking at a lighter preholiday traffic flow and, interestingly, we have the bay bridge metering lights on and a live look shows you the bay bridge toll plaza and we saw 60 filling in and now starting to
6:49 am
ease a bit and the fa, strak lanes have the most traffic. talking about a smooth flow of traffic and palo alto area and we're picking up a little bit of volume here and no delays here or in the south bay and mass transit looking good around the bay, as well. b.a.r.t. trains and other buses the holiday they're likely to have a sunday schedule but check each agency because some do a sunday schedule and a 280 southbound is closed from at&t park closed towards cesar chavez but you're okay getting back on to the freeway. send it back over to you. >> thank you, mike. cal fire asking everyone to remain vigilant as fire danger continues to rise. officials want to remind you, you need a permit before lighting a camp fire and maybe local restrictions, as well. clear a ten-foot perimeter around the fire pit and someone should be at that fire or for that matter, the grill, at all times. pay extra attention when putting the fire out, please. make sure that thing is
