school. school leaders say last week a school security guard found a wheelchair bound freshman in the hall late for class. you see he starts wheeling the student to class and the student resisted. the officer handcuffed the student and then hit the student several times before dumping him on the floor. the officer was arrested and charged with child abuse. the principal sent out a letter to parents and staff explaining the incident and apologizing. it reads in part, "i'm shocked and deeply hurt by this behavior and apologize on behalf of the staff at oakland high. this incident is not reflective of the kind of culture we cherish at our school or how we treat one another." marks one week since a man carried out a rampage killing six uc santa barbara students. deputies reveal they knew about disturbing videos rodger posted on youtube three weeks before

the attack but they didn't watch them. they didn't know about the videos until after the rampage. he outlined his violent plan and showcase his hated. his last video was posted ten minutes before the first shot was fired. the parents of a san jose man who was killed in the mass murder are asking for an end to violence. while many spoke of his smile and good nature, they spoke out for an end to the mass killings that have hurt so many across the country. >> i don't understand here. if my son could come back. i don't need to stand here and i hope i'm the last one to stand here. >> chen's mother went on to ask everyone to search their souls and replace any hatred or violence with love. several celebrities, meanwhile, joined forces in san francisco to talk about violence. the event hosted by an unlikely

on capitol hill, members of a task force aimed at gun violence prevention will hold a news conference to talk about firearms and mental health. california democrat mike thompson chairs the task force and expected to announce major mental health and vilance later today. parents will rally in oakland this morning. they're upset several teachers felt like they were forced to quit their jobs. at least five teachers quit over language in the morality clause. under the new contract, some teachers worried they would be fired for being gay, having premarital sex or using birth control. parents will meet and talk about why their kids will have to retake their ap exams. among four students who will have to retake her ap biology test next week. the california of college board

found seating irregularities and desks apparently not far enough apart. after months of studying and preparing, morgan has to take the test again. >> finals are coming up in the next two weeks, so, i'm supposed to be preparing for finals, but, instead, i have to worry about this ap test. >> i'm definitely going to address the vice president or the principal of the school and let them know my frustration. my issue is the kids did nothing wrong. >> the superintendent of schools says teachers will do everything they can to support those students and light on the school load. a similar situation happened last year in millbrae the college board and college testing service threw out hundreds of scores after what they called seating irregularities. those students were also forced to take the test again. 4:36. time to turn to a microclimate we take a beautiful, live look outside at the bay bridge. illuminated in its glory.

>> christina loren joins us with a fantastic weekend forecast. good morning. >> good morning to you. it really is going to be nice out there. one of the bay area weekends where you don't have to use your ac and you can hit the beach if that's something you're in to. which beach will be the best because some of our beach cities will be socked in with fog. couple choice spots where you get the sunshine, the warmth and the wave. let's talk about what you can expect for today. nice, cloudy start in san francisco. meanwhile, just a few clouds this morning over san jose, a really good-looking day ahead. look at these numbers 76 from the south bay today. great way to finish off the workweek at the peninsula at 73, 63 in san francisco and the cooling trend really kicks frin today right by the water. 78 degrees in the north bay and 64 in the east bay for today. we'll show you what is coming your way for the weekend in just a few moments. right now, good morning and happy friday to mike inouye. >> great friday over at the bay bridge aside for the fact a few

folks on the left side had to wait a couple seconds for the cash lanes to start moving a little better. looked like we had one closed and no major surprises there on the approach. we're looking at your maps and look at the tri-valley where i showed you the earlier shot over there right where the arrow is and the construction crews should be clearing and a little bit of slowing for a couple seconds there. on the altamont and same thing coming off the dublin grade. no major concern there. highway 84 at main on the west side of 680 a crash that happened overnight and reports of a car over on its side and no major injuries and a couple lanes there. crews still sound like they're on scene and we don't have any big issues coming over towards 680 and the rest of your bay showing a smooth drive on these roads and as far as the freeways are concerned, you can predict your speeds along the peninsula and the north bay. as far as the systems go, no system-wide delays for any these of agencies and, scott, i know you have an issue and i'll hand

tomorrow and yesterday the state chose not to renew it. a live look at casino matrix. california gambling control wants a hearing to look into accusations of the casino's owners hiding millions of dollars in profits. casino matrix will be allowed to stay open pending that hearing which should happen in a couple of months. a bill to give california the highest minimum wage in the country is now headed to the state assembly. the senate approved the bill yesterday which would set minimum wage at $13 an hour. after 2017 it would rise each year to keep pace with inflation. the state's minimum wage is set to jump to $9 an hour in july. san francisco and san jose are already above that mark. this morning in her first ever tv interview, dr. priscilla chan sits down with savannah guthrie on "today." chan is mark zuckerberg's wife. talks about everything.

>> the first lady of facebook. i've seen you described as the kate middleton of silicon valley. on a scale of one to ten with ten being extremely cringe inducing and one being sort of flattering. where does that fall? >> we're pretty close to a ten. that's just not how i see myself. i see myself as someone who is learning to work with kids and work as a doctor and i do a lot of unglamorous things in my everyday life and it's worth it to me. >> former teacher and recently graduated from medical school and training to be a pediatrician. the couple met in line while waiting for the bathroom at a harvard fraternity party. they hope to have kids one day, but right now too busy taking care of other people's children. they could mean your children. zuckerberg and chan pledged $120 million to help bay area schools in low-income neighborhoods. the gift is through their

education foundation and will be spread out over the next five years. the money will help start new public and charter schools, as well as pay for equipment, training and programs at existing schools. the first $5 million will cover technology upgrades and improving internet access at schools in the ravenswood, redwood city and san francisco districts. you can watch savannah's exclusive one-on-one sit down this morning. that starts at 7:00. if approved by the nba, former microsoft ceo steve balmer will become the new owner of the l.a. clippers. the $2 billion deal is the biggest ever in nba history. for some comparison, the milwaukee bucks sold for $550 million. balmer and the wife of former clippers owner donald sterling signed an agreement last night. negotiating the sale of her team after her estranged husband was banned for life from the league for racist comments. he must still agree to the deal,

as well. bought that team back in 1981 for $12 million. if the deal goes through, ballmer has the cash. his personal wealth estimated at $20 billion. he dropped out of sanford business school to join microsoft in 1980. the company's 30th employee and named ceo in january of 2000. he retired in february and owns about 4% of the company. speaking of microsoft the company reportedly set to jump into that wearable device market. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn to morgan brennan, good morning. >> good morning, scott. well, microsoft is the latest company looking to jump into the wearable device market. forbes reports microsoft is developing a sensor-loaded smart watch that syncs with android devices and windows phones. the battery will last to two days. microsoft could have the watch

ready for sale this summer. meanwhile, futures are lower after stocks rebounded thursday with the s&p 500 index closing at a new record high. investors are shrugging off the report showing the economy contracted in the first quarter. many are expecting growth to pick up this spring. today we're getting data on personal income and spending and manufacturing and consumer sentiment. the dow rising 65 points to 16698 and nasdaq adding 22 to 2247. and, brace yourselves, another recall. ford is recalling nearly 1.4 million vehicles in north america. most for the possible loss of power steering. that recall affects the ford explorer and escape and the mercury mariner. now, ford says vehicles could crash at lower speeds received reports of 15 accidents, but no major injuries and a separate recall of the ford taurus involves corrosion issues. scott, back to you.

>> so wonder there are any cars on the road, morgan, thank you. a major unveil from space-x ceo musk. last night he showed the future of space flight or he hopes. it seats seven and called the dragon version ii. the first private spaceship capable of orbiting the earth. he showed off an animation in southern california and insisted the dragon v-2 will be able to land with helicopter accuracy anywhere in the world. >> that is now a 21st century spaceship should land. >> he is also the bay-area based tesla. inside the spaceship it bears a res resemblance to the electric cars that has all kinds of panels. >> we aim for something with version 2 for the interfaces and the overall asthetic of something that is very clean,

temperatures for today by five to ten degrees from where we ended up yesterday. and we're going to see very different sides to the weekend. saturday is going to be cooler, cloudier and if you want to get out there and hit the beach, sunday is your day to do so and then next week we're talking about a potential return of the triple digits. going to get hot around here really fast. keep in mind, temperatures are only going to stay cool through tuesday of next week and like i said before, we'll crank that heat up. 83 degrees not a bad day. in the south bay on sunday if you want to get outdoors with your family, i promised you the best beach cities as we get into this weekend, kind of cool and cloudy from the sonoma coast down to san francisco and half moon bay. if you want the sunshine, santa cruz up to 79 degrees and beautiful conditions and expecting big waves out there. talk about the swells coming up. temperature 76 degrees in san jose and climb for sunday and then next week staying nice and mild through tuesday by thursday, guys, triple digits in the tri-valley.

going to be hot. back to you. >> we'll enjoy this weekend, thanks. one of chicago's biggest tourist attractions is back open. >> crews fixed the glass ledge after it appeared to crack. willis tower known as sears tower. yesterday workers designed a new protective coating designed to go after the thick glass. the damage was first spotted after a california family on vacation sat on the top floor 103 stories high. city officials say the glass floor never cracked and it's structurally safe. what broke is a protective coating which happens on occasion. >> while i'm sitting down all i'm seeing is from the ledge to the glass. so, i see that part cracked and i immediately hop off and i literally ran to the other side of the building. >> i don't blame you. the glass ledge is designed to hold up to 10,000 pounds. willis tower officials think someone may have dropped something on the protective

layer but what a sight. >> you can step out 103 stories in the air and look down. several adorable wolf pups rescued from their den amid a dangerous wildfire in alaska. >> crews holding and helping the little pups and they rescued five. one sadly didn't survive and another one had to have porcupine quills taken out of its eye. the mom was no where to be found so the pups were taken to the alaska zoo for evaluation. they are believed to be five weeks old. still ahead on "today in the bay" history at the national spelling bee. >> a look at the contestant that represented the bay area in the finals. it wasn't me. surprise. live shot of 101. i put the numbers out there, too. this is palo alto and talk about your south bay, give you a look at that, coming up.

made the bay area very proud. >> she made it to the finals in the national spelling bee. she did get tripped up with this word. >> t-a-g-l-i-o-n-e. >> so close. the last letter there. so, if you're not quite familiar with that word, which is all of us. an italian word for an old overcoat. a standing ovation as she walked off the stage. finished 11th, earned $1,500 prize but made it to the finals and we are tremendously proud of you. want to check the morning commute. >> i thought it was pasta.
