mark zuckerberg and his wife. christie smith joins us live in redwood city some of the areas getting some of that $120 million donation. great news, christie. >> good morning to you and happy friday. what a gift, $120 million a pledge to struggling bay area schools. almost sounds like some of the lottery wins we have been reporting here in the bay area. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg and his wife made charitable donations before. in his announcement zuckerberg said that the world's most innovative communities should not also be home for struggling public schools. he did praise educators and also pointed out the challenge they face with the resources that they're given. some of this $120 million over the next five years will go to new public and charter schools, equipment training and programs, technology and connectivity in the schools and this will go in the ravenswood, redwood city

school districts and san francisco schools that have a demonstrated need. as you can imagine the superintendent in these districts have already spoken out expressing how grateful they are. reporting live in redwood city, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> great news there, thanks, christie. >> you can see savannah guthrie's entire interview with priscilla chan in a few hours on "today" show. her first television interview since marrying zuckerberg. in a few hours testimony will resume in bryan stow's trial. they are trying to prove there was not enough security at the game. today stow's attorney will question witnesses who were there at the game at dodger stadium three years ago. he's hoping they'll say security was lax with fans throwing things and fights breaking out from the second inning on. now, lawyers for the dodgers say stow was under the influence of alcohol at the time and

contributed to the hostile environment. they also claim the team had their largest security force ever at that game. stow's mother, ann, was the first witness to take the stand. she described what it was like to take care of stow who needs help using the bathroom and relies on a walker to get around the house. a special needs student in a wheelchair beaten by a school security guard at a bay area high school and the whole thing was caught on camera. "today in the bay" peggy bunker is joining us now with more. peggy, this video is shocking. >> it's tough to look at. when you see something like this, how could this possibly have happened to hire a security guard would attack one of the kids he was supposed to be keeping safe. happened at oakland high school earlier this month apparently after a student in a wheelchair was lingering too long in a hallway. now, take a look at this video. you can see the security guard rolling martinez down a hallway and he and his partner were rushing late students to class and then this. you see this scuffle and the

punches there and then you see the boy push out of the wheelchair. farther there down the hallway. the other security guard then steps in to pull the first security guard off of the boy after he was dumped on to the floor. now, reportedly when the guards pushed him towards class, the officer handcuffed the student to his chair and continued to roll him. the boy then reportedly spat at the officer and that's when he threw these punches. if you look at the video, three or four punches. the principal sent out a letter to parents and staff explaining the incident and apologizing. "i'm shocked and deeply hurt by this behavior and apologize on behalf of the staff at oakland high. this incident is not reflective of the kind of chulture we cherish at our school or how we treat one another." the other thing you should know, the security guard was fired that day. oakland school police arrested the guard and, once again, alameda county prosecutors

charged him and right now that guard is free on $10,000 bail. >> wow, so he was fired and now facing this. they took action pretty quickly. >> as far as that same day. this happened late may. it is tough to see. not just one punch, but several punches. >> very sad, okay. pleasanton teen who was speeding when he hit and killed a bicyclist will find out his fate today. a judge is expected to sentence cody hall to nine years in prison. last month he pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter. hall was driving 43 miles over the speed limit on foothill road when he hit and killed diana in june of last year. police say hall had bragged about speeding on twitter. police have arrested the driver accused of running over a man at a san francisco gas station. officers say he was drunk when he hit the pedestrian near the chevron gas station on 24th avenue and gary boulevard.

this is an update to that broking news we brought you yesterday morning. the man was pinned under that car and emergency crew husband to use a jack to free him and he suffered a serious head injury but expected to survive. a new picture to show you this man. a man who burglarized a downtown mountain view restaurant. this man forced his way just last friday stealing $750 in cash from the register. he is a white man in his 60s and has gray hair and wears glasses. a new reward will be offered today in connection with this violent armed robbery at a san jose liquor store. police say on may 9th the man armed with a shotgun entered clyde liquors. one person is hit in the face and knocked to the ground and the man took off in a get away car. this morning crimestoppers will announce how much cash it will offer for information leading to an arrest and a conviction. 5:06 right now. it is going to be a wonderful weekend.

meteorologist christina loren joins us with a look. good morning. >> good morning. happy friday, everybody. a lot happening across the bay area. look at some of those events coming up. if you have not yet made those weekend plans, one of the weekends you can take your pick and comfortable conditions all across the bay area. outdoors looking really good. right now temperatures mostly in the 40s and 50s and cooler start out there this morning with plenty of morning clouds to go around. they span inland and our natural ac and temps will drop by about ten degrees today as the low clouds cling to the coastline and that cool ocean air comes all the way inland and tonight you want to open up your windows right around 7:00, beautiful ocean breeze. going to be lovely out there and we'll also see better air quality as this onshore flow starts to pick up. this is what you can count on for today. sunny by noon and the clouds will cling to the coastline all day long. 63 degrees in san francisco as a result. 73 for the peninsula and 76, that's pretty nice here in the

south bay for this time of year. 78 for the north bay and 64 in the east bay and becoming sunny in oakland by about 1:00, 1:30 and then the tri-valley today, 79 degrees. a close look at your weekend coming up, right now here's mike on your drive. >> looking at a great drive approaching the bay bridge toll plaza. a few cars in the cash lane and now all cash lanes are open. the east shore freeway right here and low clouds just above. emeryville towards the san francisco side, you can't see the lights. so, keep that in mind, as well. an easy drive into and out of san francisco across that span. looking at the east shore freeway and a smooth drive at the limit across interstate 80, that's westbound. westbound 24, as well. bottom of your screen, oakland coliseum and arena both have events. the a's play at 7:05, so, a lot of post-work traffic over there. a tiny bit of a start for westbound through antioch and that shows your lighter friday

commute and the yellow that shows down the 60 except for the altamont pass. typical pattern into the tri-valley out of that area and smooth drive for the peninsula. no problems for 101 or 280. zoom into the south bay and a little construction going on for 880 around the alameda ramp as well as stevens creek boulevard. scott, hand it off to you because another issue with construction. i guess it's good news. >> south bay leaders will hold a ceremony today to celebrate the long-awaited completion of construction on 101. map highlighted area where the improvements were made including the expansion of capital and crews have really been working on this. $36 million project since 2001. they say it's going to give drivers a smoother, faster trip from evergreen and south san jose. and then it's oepen for business. that iaare back in the wate

we'll see drizzle both saturday and sunday morning. today sharp drop in temperatures. two sides to the weekend and then that heat really cranks up next week. you'll see that on your seven-day forecast. let's welcome in mike inouye. >> looking over towards the goldpen gate bridge and the alcatraz triathlon. if that fog rolls in, christina talks about that along the coast and no problem right now for drivers. look at the map and we're talking about north of the golden gate bridge and 101 southbound is your commute direction and same for highway 37 coming over from vallejo and the rest of your north bay. approach from the bay bridge and easy flow for west 80 and a smooth flow of traffic around the castro valley. you have your build out of the altamont pass and a tire tread reported in the lanes approaching north livermore.

so, maybe a traffic break for just a couple but look how light the volume is and at speed coming from the dublin interchange and 680 through sunol. the south bay, your typical overnight construction crews which should be clearing now aand the alameda area and north 101 a tiny build right there and as you look at your live look for palo alto 101 heading past willow to san francisco and 280 equally clear. actually, a little lighter than this. a new lawsuit has been filed against the organizers of the san francisco pride event. trevor gardner is suing saying there was inadequate security. gardner was a vendor during last year's pride celebration. he was shot in the leg near the intersection of larkin and grove street. another person also shot and hurt and san francisco police don't think those men were targeted. gardner is seeking damages to cover medical costs and trauma. actor brad pitt has filed an emergency restraining order against a man who attacked him on the red carpet. pitt was hit, but not hurt

during the wednesday night premie premiere. police immediately arrested the prankster and held him on $20,000. he targeted stars in the past like bradley cooper and will smith but has never hit them. the bbc reports he was working for a ukrainian television station until he was fired several weeks ago. a surprise overnight move by the republican-controlled house voted to block the federal government from interfering with states which have legalized medical marijuana. if that becomes law, it means the dea cannot raid legal medical marijuana distributers. the amendment was added to a bill which funds the justice department. the bill now headed to the senate. the new it school for high school graduates not harvard or yale but right here in the bay area. stanford is a top dream college for high school seniors. stanford had the lowest grad wat acceptance rate for five out of the last six years.

by a school security guard. peggy bunker joining us now. it is hard to believe but the video really shows it all. >> no denying exactly what happened here. this attack happened at oakland high school about two yeweeks a, reportedly after a student in a wheelchair was lingering in the hallway too long. he had cerebral palsy. he and a partner were rushing late students to class and then this, this altercation and he whales on the student right there three to four times and pushes him there out of his chair and dumps him on the floor. the other security guard actually had to step in and restrain his partner. reportedly when the guards started pushing martinez in his chair towards class, martinez laughed at the officers and in response he handcuffed the student and continued to roll him to class the boy spat at the officer and that's when he threw those punches. the principal sent out a letter

to parent and staff explaining the incident and also apologizing. the letter reads in part, i'm shocked and deeply hurt by this behavior and i apologize on behalf of the staff at oakland high and this is not reflective of the kind of culture we cheerichee cherish at our school. he is out on $10,000 bail right now. the security guard was also fired that day. he was arrested and charged for that felony for assault. now, as for francisco martinez he actually went to the hospital that day for his injuries. he is now recovering and shocking to see this video go down in a school hallway and, by all the things, a security guard. >> i was really taken aback by that video. thanks a lot, peggy. new this morning, police spent much of the morning investigating a stabbing and interstate 680. the fire department and police departments responding to that area and they found one person stabbed and details still coming in on this story, but looks from the video police have talked to

people at the scene and may have some ideas exactly what happened. investigators have not told us how badly that victim was hurt, or if they know who did it. parents will rally outside bishop o'dowd high school this morning. showing support for teachers who might not return next year. at least teachers have quilt over a language and morality clause. under the new contract, some teachers are worried they could be fired for being gay, for having premarital sex or even using birth control. school leaders will meet with parents to talk about why their kids will have to retake their ap exam. morgan fisc is among some 400 students at amtore valley high who will have to retake her ap biology test next week. the california college board found seating irregularities in two sessions last month. desks were apparently not far enough. after months of studying and

preparing morgan has to take that study, again. >> finals are coming up in the next two weeks and i'm supposed to be preparing for finals, but, instead, i have to worry about this ap test. >> i'm definitely going to address the vice president or the principal of the school because my issue is the kids did nothing wrong. >> the superintendent of school said the teachers will do everything they can to support students and light on the school load. a similar situation happened last year in millbrae. the college board and education testing service threw out hundreds of ap test scores from mill high school after what they called seating irregularities. those students were also forced to retake the test. a silicon couple giving away $100 million. quae "today in the bay" christie smith and his wife with more on why they decided to make that donation. >> mark zuckerberg put it like

new this morning, a second diver has died while looking for the bodies of high school students who died inside a sunken south korea ferry. the diver was unconscious when he was pulled to the surface by fellow divers this morning. he was given cpr and taken to the hospital, but he didn't make it. spokesperson said the diver was cutting open part of the ship to make searches easier. the ferry sank last month and since then 288 bodies have been recovered. 16 are still missing. today marks one year since a 22-year-old man carried out a bloody rampage killing six uc santa barbara students. now, we're learning more about the investigation into elliot rodger in the weeks before the murders. deputies revealing they know disturbing video of rodger posted on youtube three weeks before the attacks but never watched them.

they did not know about the videos until after the rampage. rodger outlined his violent plan and showcased his hatred. his last video was posted ten minutes before the first shot was fired. the parents of a san jose man killed in that mass murder asking everyone to help put an end to the violence. 19-year-old george chen was remembered at a tearful tribute at his alma mater leyland high school. while many spoke for his good nature, they also cried out for an end to these mass killings. >> i don't want to stand here. if my son can come back, i don't need to stand here. i hope i'm the last one to stand here. >> chen's mother went on to ask everyone to search their souls and replace any hatred or violence with love. it is 5:42. in san francisco, several celebrities joined forces to talk about gun violence. >> we can correct, but we have to do it as a community and as a

morning about 2,000 of some of the best athletes in the world will do it. 1 1/2 miles swim from the island to here and that's 1 1/2 mile swim and then an 18-mile bike ride followed by very easy eight-mile run for a very flat section of san francisco. nothing easy about running in the city. but one of the more interesting teams that will be competing. led, of course, by these two gentlemen right here merit jones and kyle you guys are from vancouver. you're, obviously, an amputee below the knee and you have some problems with your maculer degeneration. you guys work together as a team. how does this work during the swim? >> during the swim we use a tether. it goes from my waist to brian's waist and in an ideal world we're able to swim sort of me right in front of him and i'm in charge of guiding us, hopefully

getting us to shore safely and brian's in charge of keeping up and that's how we do it. >> when you get to shore, you help with the prosthetic. this is the, you have a blade, a running prosthetic. >> i don't swim with my leg on and when we get to shore it's a little bit tough to get up to beach so what brian does is come around in front and i'll put my hands on his shoulders and hop up the beach and i guide him, but he helps me through that part and a real team effort. >> a tandem bicycle and you're doing the run, again. and the shorter tether. >> keeps us closer together during a run so there's no accident. >> who's relying more on who would you say overall? >> he would not be able to do this without me. just kidding. no, we're truly a team. not one person more than the other. >> physical aspects of the team and also the emotional aspects.

welcome back, everyone. 5:55. ford is recalling nearly 1.5 million suvs and cars in the u.s. and canada, most of them with problems with power steering. the recall affects the ford
