bay area bartlett station. about 10:00, a group of teenagers showed up here and began picking on two younger boys waiting for a bus. witnesses say it le minded them of this u-2 video. this video shows a wilding in process. a lot of teenagers running around breaking windows, whatever catches their eye. on monday, san leandro got a call that the mob was here, at the mall. the mob challenged two young kids challenging them, then chasing them. one got away, one didn't. >> knocked to the ground, kicked, beaten, had his smartphone and his shoes actually stolen. >> reporter: then on monday, in this block of east 14th street, police say two middle-school-aged boys were walking home, one of them carrying a shopping bag with

high-end sneakers. they were confronted by four high school boys. one of the boys grabbed the bag with the sneakers in it, and when the younger boy resisted, he took out a pistol. >> he pistol-whipped him and took the shoes from the boys. >> some women found some of the teenagers and asked them to move. one teen threw a chair at the women. one of them got into her car and tried to drive away with a baby buckle sbd into the backseat. a couple blocks away, some of that same group showed up here looking for a fight. >> we've increased safety of our campus supervisors here until later in the evening. >> reporter: at a neighboring elementary school, allison walker came to walk her 7-year-old home even though it's a pretty well-kept neighborhood and she lives just a few blocks

a away. >> i would never let him walk alone. never. >> reporter: they were able to catch a couple of them from that second incident on monday. those two facing possible charges of kidnapping, carjacking, and assault with a deadly weapon. mark matthews, nbc bay area news. now to decision 2014. the balance of power is changing in san jose. voters now have two choices for mayor. santa clara county supervisor dave cortese and sam liccardo. they won enough votes in yesterday's primary and now they'll face off in a runoff in november. both agree on the same thing. they want san leandro to claim its title as the safest nation in the country. the question is, how? >> it's not just about cops. we'll restore police officers, we'll restore safety, but we're going to do it not just by spending more money. >> here in city hall, there are

the family of a teenager is demanding answers tonight. they say their 911 call for medical help for their girl with special needs ended needlessly in death. you can see that clergy member, members of the community and family members are gathered together to talk about the girl's death and to find out more about what happened. nbc's bear hernandez has more on the investigation. >> she was really loving and caring, really sweet with my parents. you know, i still can't believe this happened to my sister. >> reporter: lorenzo serrano says he's devastated and angry that his family's 911 call for help led to a sheriff's deputy shooting and killing his 18-year-old special needs

sister. yinaro serrano outside the apartment. >> she didn't want to take her medication, and we wanted medical help. instead they decided to send a deputy to the house. >> reporter: but the 911 call said she was armed with a knife. that's why a deputy responded. >> we had someone who wouldn't put down a knife even for her own family. >> reporter: it's unclear whether the deputy was aware the woman had mental illness issues. but the department said he was faced with a life-threatening situation within 20 minutes upon arriving at the scene. >> this was an individual coming at one of our deputies with a knife, intending to do him harm.

muni is on the offensive. the transit system is going after workers who called in sick the last three days causing delays. muni is also telling workers if they don't have a doctor's note, they will be disciplined. more of its employees did return to work today, putting about 73% of its vehicles back on line. however, cable car service is

still not available. since muni operators cannot strike, the sickout is their way is protesting a proposed labor contract. both sides go into arbitration this saturday. a woman used an app to turn the tables on an east bay burglar. her quick reactions led to the arrest of dustin fryburger martinez. her purse and wallet were stolen from her car. she used the phone tracker app which showed the burglar heading to her house. she made a call and san ramon police intercepted him at her home. still ahead, keeping hospitals safe. the change that one group says is needed from keeping voffendes from being violent. what kaepernick's contract means for the rest of the 49ers.

a storage unit packed with hidden drugs, but it's who the stash allegedly belongs to that's raising eyebrows tonight. it is another black eye for the san jose police department. the department arresting one of their own for allegedly storing some 20 pounds of pot inside a storage unit on tully road. david trujillo has more on what cops are saying. >> the 20-year-old kept drugs inside this storage facility on tully road. he was in the process of evicting an apartment for a tenant that wasn't paying rent. he smelled marijuana. they found that it belonged to one of their own. >> they felt confident that the amount of marijuana in this storage bin was enough to go ahead and charge the officer.

vote of no confidence. union leaders are worried about deputies' morale. >> i don't know if there is a worry about morale. people will have to re-evaluate their choices. there are a lot of places hiring right now. whether we see that or not, we're not sure. >> the deputies association has criticized the sheriff for her lack of transparency and her hiring of people like sierra lamar. even though he's accused of corruption charges, yee received more than 3,000 votes. he is behind pete peterson and alex pollolo. he was charged with money laundering and conspiracy to traffic and firearms. but his name is on the ballot

. we just mentioned $18 an hour. we want to clarify. the proposed minimum wage hike would be to $13 an hour. the city council unanimously approved an amended proposal last night. it would hike the minimum wage to $13 by the year 2016. they would phase in increases every year beginning january 1st. the council will have a second reading of the measure later this month. california lawmakers are pushing new legislation that would create special units to treat violent patients. this comes a month after health care workers in the bay area

protested, demanding more security. the bill proposes separating the most violent and aggressive patients from the general patient population and putting those instead in enhanced treatment units. >> this is a bill of rights for the patients. because we want to take the aggressive ones out of the general population who don't feel safe. and when they don't feel safe, there is this disorder to everybody and it becomes a problem. >> reporter: aggressive acts to staff and patients have increased over the last three years. a warning to any man who uses viagra. men who take the little blue pill may be increasing the risk for skin cancer. the men who took viagra had nearly twice the chance of developing melanoma. researchers did not find a link between erectile dysfunction.

year to get high pressure in the pacific. it's just that at the core of this particular region of high pressure, it is extremely strong. it's setting that storm track way off to the north and it's creating this atmosphere blocking pattern for us. you take that and then you couple it in with some very hot air across the desert southwest that's going to move in from the south, and we are looking at temperatures at the coastline within the next three days in the 70s and also the potential of some low 100s inland. we're not quite there yet for tomorrow's forecast, but with that hotter weather coming in so soon, some simple things to think about. dehydration happens quick. experts say when you begin to feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated at that point, so don't ignore those signs. eight glasses of water per day, that's the minimum, and also remember that spf. skin damage can start within 10 minutes.
