much better for sleeping in. then the natural a/c kicks in toward the end of the year. if you are heading out the door, let's check your drive with mike inouye. we are watching the golden gate bridge. you can see the glowing lights across the span. good stuff. light traffic. they have not moved the cones for the morning commute. we'll look at the map, though, the southbound 101 to the golden gate bridge, a deer was hit. no status on the deer, but the lanes are all open. highway 12 in kirkland we have a minor crash just off the roadway. the rest of your bay moves very smoothly as you would expect at 4:31. we'll check your traffic, but so far nothing really unexpected. back to the desk. all right, mike. oakland mayor jean quan defending herself against accusations of being to blame for a car crash that happened near market and 26th. mayor quan was driving alone in her suv northbound on market when her car collided with a

knee znissan going eastbound on. two witnesses said the mayor ran a red light and may have been distrangted. this comes two days after showing mayor quan talking on her cell phone. >> she was completely distracted and was not watching the road. i don't think noticed the light turned red. >> she ran through the light and the car hit her. i mean, it was just -- she ran a red light. >> no one seriously hurt. the mayor denies using her phone at the time of the crash. she spoposted a statement on facebook saying the other car hit her and she immediately pulled over to make sure nobody was hurt. police are investigating what led to the collision. i'm going to let them do their job and rort out the details. i'm also submitting my phone records to investigators will ch will confirm i was not on my phone at the time. new this morning, also in oakland, a police suv became

part of a crime scene after the officer at the wheel hit a woman who was crossing the road. it happened around 10:30 last night near the intersection of 84th avenue and international boulevard east of 880. witnesses say the woman was crossing international boulevard when she was hit. they say the officer's lights and sirens were off, but so far we have no confirmation from the department. >> i've seen the dark-haired lady in a green lime dress coming across the street. that's her car, right there, the police car came across, no lights or sirens and hit her and stopped. >> a woman was taken to the hospital complaining of pain in her arm. the officer was not hurt. it is unclear yet whether the officer was headed to a call when the crash happened. this morning an entire community mourning the loss of three people including two police officers gunned down in a shooting spree in las vegas. the shooter is a man and a woman who are also dead as part of the

suicide pack. jay gray has more from las vegas. >> i don't know what set him off, but it just was a rampage. >> reporter: the first shots rang out before noon in this las vegas pizza restaurant where a man and woman ambushed vegas police officers allen beck and ior sodor. one of the suspects yelling, this is the start of a revolution as they opened fire. >> my officers were simply having lunch when the shooting started. >> reporter: one of the officers managed to return fire, but both ultimately died from their wounds. the suspects took the officers' weapons and ammunition and walked across a parking lot to this walmart where they shot and killed an innocent bystander just inside the front doors. >> very scary. because he was right behind where i work, and i was afraid that he would look over the wall and start shooting there. >> reporter: instead, they moved inside as police moved in.

witnesses say there was a brief gun battle and then according to police the suspects turned their guns on themselves. part of an apparent suicide pact. the statement from walmart called the incident, quote, a senseless act of violence. >> it was a tragic day. it's a very, very difficult day. but we still have a community of police and we still have a community to protect. >> reporter: and they drove through the pain of trying to figure out how and why they lost an innocent civilian and two of their own. jay gray, nbc news, las vegas. fire investigators in san jose say a fire at an elementary school was likely an accident but the school isn't so sure. firefighters were called out to steinbeck elementary school in south san jose before 3:00 yesterday morning where the firefighters found the building housing electrical components on fire. they stopped the flames from spreading to the main building. the school believes someone set

the fire on purpose but fire officials say the cause is still under investigation. no one was injured. a review of construction records and e-mails from the company which built the bay bridge found we'll probably spend millions of dollars on repairs. according to a report by the sacramento bee, the department of transportation built a chinese company to build the bridge despite the company had no experience building bridges. the paper says officials apparently thought the company would work faster and it cost about $250 million less than the next lowest bidder. but the report found in order to get it all done quickly, some of the work doesn't meet codes and probably will have to be fixed down the road. the department of transportation is defending its decision. san jose mayor chuck reid is endorsing san ricardo. and at a news conference this morning he'll talk about why. this comes a week after ricardo won his spot in the mayoral runoff for november. according to the costa times, reid is choosing the

candidate to most likely carry on his policies. he'll face dick cortese in the election this november. the price of apple stock will drop significantly today but nobody is panicking. the price drops from $648 to $93 thanks to a 7:1 split. as an investor it does not affect your net worth but makes apple stock more affordable for the next guy. there's speculation of a more affordable apple could affect the dow. apple as a company already worth significantly more than other tech companies on the dow including microsoft, cisco, ibm and intel. and now we'll check on our forecast with meteorologist christina loren. it is already hot this morning. >> we are three degrees away from 70 right now in san jose, livermore, and it is going to be a very, very warm day. part of the reason why is because of this mild start.

the other reason why is because high pressure really not going to budge all that much. as we get into this afternoon, you will notice a difference at this evening at the immediate coast with the cool ocean air and the marine influence returns, but not until after 4:00 p.m. thick pockets of fog and drizzle out there. clouds along the coastline. and we'll see the valley sunshine by noon. but even the clouds that do cling to the coastline for the first part of the day will burn off right around 9:00 a.m. strong high pressure on the way. cool ocean breeze returns by this evening. and that is going to lead to cooler weather as we head throughout tomorrow. but for today, another hot one. 90 degrees in the south bay. temperatures are going to be very warm along the peninsula, 88 degrees. and 93 degrees for the bay. oakland at 73. but sunol, the tri-valley area, triple-digit heat yet again. we'll talk about when this heat will really bring, but coming up we'll check your drive with mike. we are still in spring,

christina. hold off temperatures until summer. didn't do it. looking over here, 583, some of the triple-digit area, this is dublin out of livermore. westbound 583 is moving smoothly. look at the map over on the right side where you have west 580, just a tiny bit of slowing out of the altamont pass and slowing back into the area. no big surprises there. dublin interchange, easy drive. same for 680 down to the south bay. a smooth flow around the bay. you can see the green indicators. a little slowing in fremont as the crews start to move a bit, but no lanes closed there. san jose, sorry, we are showing green all over the map. now we'll look at the south bay with a live look out there, i got ahead of myself, the san jose northbound 101 moving well past 680. we'll pull the live shots up. it is early, so i'm not sure the cameras are responding well. then into the peninsula with 101 and the taillights, we are

gorod morning to you. it is about 4:44 on the clock. it is almost 70 degrees already at this hour. christina loren has the forecast coming up. president obama plans to take executive action today to help college graduates deal with overwhelming school debt. in washington he will expand on a 2010 law that made it so lenders could not expect payments bigger than 10% of borrower's monthly income. the president's administration says student loan debt is hurting millions of americans' ability to buy homes, start businesses or even spend to spur the economy. well, the continued effort to revamp itself. radio shack is expanding its repair service program. the struggling electronics chain will introduce fix it here at about 400 stores nationwide to bring the total number to 700. some stores got an early start

including some in the bay area. fix it here repairs phones and tablets with issues like cracked screens or broken buttons and water damage. the main selling point is most of the items can be repaired in the same day. many eyes on silicon valley this morning. we'll be on wall street to see how apple's stock opens after the split. for a look at how the futures are trading, we'll turn to seema moody live at cnbc headquarters. good morning. >> reporter: scott, good morning. futures right now are flat after stocks hit record highs on friday following the jobs report. we show a slow but steady hiring growth. the dow, nasdaq and s&p are seeing slow gains. look for reports on retail sales and inflation. those will likely be market movers to watch out. the dow raising 88 points and the nasdaq adding 25 on friday. tesla is upgrading the s-model sedan as the carmaker awaits the new model of the car next year. tesla will automatically update

navigation software to steer you around traffic jams. later the model-s gets a more comfortable driver seat and tesla is working on a self-driving feature that works like autopilot on the jet but you have to still pay attention to the road. and video game enthusiasts descend on los angeles for the annual electronic entertainment expo or e3. microsoft is expected to cut the price of the xbox one console lagging behind the sales of sony's ps4. and halo 5 could be viewed which is now exclusive to xbox. scott, are you a game her? >> i am. but i have the xbox 360. and i'm perfectly happy there. thank you so much.

i love when i get the big bar on that game. that's how you get the tetris. 65 in the east bay. 59 degrees in san francisco. as we head throughout the day today, prepare, my friends, for a hot day ahead. look at these numbers, topping 90s again in the south way. in the peninsula, 88 degrees. 77 in san francisco with cooling clouds returning heading throughout the evening. but we'll see highs close to 80 degrees. even san francisco again today with the strong high pressure in place, tri-valley, 101 degrees. abundant sunshine for you. and 93 degrees in the north bay. this is what to expect through the early part of the week. very warm daytime high. the 20-degree difference between your coastal cities and inland valleys. and that means if you want to hit the cool beach, the best time to do so is near 3:00. gorgeous temperatures out there in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

the natural a/c extends further up land making its way through the delta. then by the end of the week we return to the average june temps. that means 79 degrees here in the south bay. that's average for us. 77 by wednesday. 74 by thursday. and yeah, warming up a touch getting closer to flag day and father's day weekend. we'll talk about that coming up, back to you kris and scott. the pakistani taliban is claiming responsibility for the airport attack in which more than 18 people were killed yesterday. they say it was revenge for a leader who was killed in a u.s. drone strike last year. the officials say gunmen armed with machine guns and a rocket launcher and disguised as police guards stormed the international terminal in karachi setting off the explosion. this comes week after failed peace talks between the government and pakistani taliban. a massive manhunt is underway in quebec hours after three inmates escaped from a detention center and made it off

in a helicopter. investigators say the helicopter landed in the middle of the prison yard and three inmates jumped aboard and took off. two of the men were arrested in a drug bust four years ago and were awaiting trial. the prison officials have not released information on the third man. it is unclear at this time if the helicopter was hijacked. this is the second time in 15 months that a helicopter has been used to break prisoners out of a canadian prison. the man accused of causing a crash to kill one person and put comedian tracy morgan in critical condition will be in court today. kevin roper was driving the walmart truck that smashed into a limo van carrying morgan and his friends on saturday. yesterday morgan had surgery on his leg but is still in critical condition. three other people were hurt and fellow comedian james mcnair was killed. >> the most amazing and humble person i've met in a long time doing this as a professional.

>> investigators say roper who was driving a truck did not notice traffic had stopped and rear-ended the limo. walmart says it's cooperating and if the final investigation determines the big rig caused that crash, the company says it will take full responsibility. warning signs are up at santa barbara beaches after multiple reports of great white sightings. leadbeater beach was shut down as people saw a great white swimming close to shore. the 49ers at your service. where you can eat out to get a pro football player at your server. >> wow, i thought they served in tennis, but i'm not good in sports. we'll talk at a crash on the approach coming up.

when she drove through a red light and crashed into another car, but the mayor says she'll turn over her phone records to prove she was not on the phone. stephanie trang is live with the investigation and what witnesses are saying this morning. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, kris. oakland police are trying to determine who was at fault in this collision, but it is worth noting mayor quan is running for re-election. so what appeared to be a minor collision could be a major political problem for her. take a look at the cell phone video of the crash that happened at 5:30 last night in west oakland. mayor quan in green is checking on the people in the other car. a woman and a 14-year-old boy. now the police say the mayor was driving alone in her suv on market when her car collided with a nissan on 26th street. police did not cite the mayor. at issue here is who had the right of way. the accident comes days after photos surfaced of mayor quan talking on her cell phone while driving. witnesses we spo
